Our cabins are the perfect place for wildlife watching in the Crandall Valley, sightseeing in Yellowstone National Park, and trips to Cody, Wyoming and Red Lodge, Montana on some of America’s most spectacular roads. We have vast herds of elk and bison, big horn sheep, coyotes, deer, mountain goats, grizzly bears, black bears and many birds including ravens and bald eagles. Since the reintroduction of the wolf in 1995, this valley has also provided almost daily sightings of wolves. You can snowmobile to Cooke City from our Cabin or snowmobile the Beartooth Mountains.
For an adventure outside of Yellowstone National Park, a one-hour drive will take you to Red Lodge, Montana over the Beartooth Highway, one of America’s most beautiful roadways. Red Lodge is an old gold mining town, which has grown into a picturesque ski resort with numerous shops and restaurants. Heading to the east on the Chief Joseph Highway 296 and over historic Dead Indian Pass provides a wide vista of the Rocky Mountains. Chief Joseph Highway will take you to Cody, Wyoming, where there is a nightly gunfight and rodeo during the summer season.
These cabins are located on 6 1/2 acres of secluded, wooded land, bordering National Forest land on two sides. You can end your day with s'mores while sitting around the fire pit in front of the cabin. For a short outing, you can follow the private trail down river and enjoy the wildlife.

Why the Owner Chose Cooke City
We found this area 10 years ago and decided there was no other place in the world more beautiful than here, we made this area our home. There are so many things to do in our area that we have found out that it has kept us young !!!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
We enjoy it here because of the great fishing and hunting. Yellowstone is close by so we can go there any time we like. We also love to take our four wheelers into the backcountry in the summer and in the winter there is fantastic snowmobiling from our doorstep. If you like to hike there is no better place, if you like to view wildlife it gets no better than here. Our families come and stay and it is a great vacation spot that young children will remember for a long time! We also have the beautiful Bear Tooth Mountains out our back door.

Perfect retreat

We stayed a week in this cozy, very functional cabin first week of October. I was a bit worry about the weather but it turn out be a beautiful week. Temperature was around 70's during day time and 50's in night. The cabin was well heated in night. Enjoyed hiking near by canyon, fishing right outside the cabin and just breathing Wyoming nature. The best part was barbecue on the wood fire iron cast grill that owner Gig & Mallie made, followed by having a glass of wine watching fire over looking wolf hurrying blue moon.
Owner response:Thanks for the great review! And you are right, after a long day there is nothing better than sitting by the fire looking at the moon and stars while telling stories and learning about each other. Hope you come back and bring some of your friends and family from Japan.

My husband and I had an absolutely fantastic week at the cabin (wish it had been two!!). The location and scenery were breath-taking and waking up every morning to the sound of the Clarks Fork River was amazing. The cabin had everything we needed and felt very homely. The cabin and surroundings are far more beautiful than the pictures on the website. Zig and Mallie (and their very friendly dogs and goats!)are wonderful hosts and made sure us City-Brits enjoyed every second of our vacation. If you love the outdoors, you'll love this place!!! We're already planning our trip for next year.
Owner response:Mike and Carol, We are looking forward to your return, there is so much more we would like to share with you of our area. We are hoping to someday come to your country and visit you. Take care and we will see you again!

The cabin was simply awesome! We spent 8 days around the area and enjoyed every minute! The owners are tremendouly nice people, and went above and beyond to accomodate our needs. The area is beautiful and relaxing and you may want to move out to WY. I realized that I want to retire in the area! Seriously! Guys, we miss you and your dogs and goats. Please throw Bo a stick for us, and don't let Teton dig to big a hole chasing Marmots or Picket Pens. We will be back! Cheers!!
Owner response:I hope you do come back Matt, I will save you a cabin site. Would love to have you as a neighbor!

This is the ideal location for families, old and with young children. My daughter, son-in-law and three grandchilden spent a wonderful, restful week in this cabin. I enjoyed listening to the rushing river every night while dropping off to sleep, and the grandkids enjoyed fishing and playing with the owners' dogs (they were missing their pets, but not for long!). We went rafting nearby and enjoyed the rodeo in Cody another night, and spotted several elk, deer, and moose on the drive back to the cabin. A big thumbs up for this site!!!
Owner response:Thanks for the nice review; you guys are welcome back any time. Had a good time while you were here. Bring the rest of your grandkids Wanda!

I just wanted to thank Zig and Mally for the awesome time we had in their cabin. It was one of the most memorable trips yet. Myself and 3 other guys went for the 2010 deer hunting season. Not only did we stay warm but we were very comfortable too, with very hospitable hosts to boot. We weren't able to get much fishing in but one of the guys with us did land a nice 14" trout. The hunting was awesome! We got 3 out of 4 deer, the biggest scoring in the 160 inch class range. I would highly reccomend this cabin to anyone, couples, groups, and families. Can't wait to go back. Maybe get a little more fishing in next time. Sincerely Jeremy Chacon Sacramento, CA
Owner response:This Sacramento group has been coming here for years; they are a great bunch of guys that love to hunt. We hope you keep coming back!

My family stayed for a week in this beautiful rustic cabin on the river! We absolutley loved it! The set up was perfect for our family with the large open room. It was a time that allowed us to bond with the kids versus having them go off to their "room" and do their own thing! The cabin had everything that we needed and Zig & Mallie were great "Hosts"! It was close to Yellowstone and allowed us to take several day trips to the park. We would definately recommed this cabin to our family and friends.
Owner response:Thanks for the nice review and thanks for staying with us. You are welcome back any time. We very much enjoyed you and your children!

A group of 7 enjoyed this cozy cabin for our successful elk hunt in mid-November. The surrounding area is gorgeous, and welcomes fishing and leisurely strolls along the river. While 800 sq ft might sound small-seven adults found it quite comfortable. It was very clean and decorated so tastefuly. It has all the amenities needed. We had a great time relaxing with friends out on the deck, and playing cards and board games at night. Didn't miss TV at all. Plan ahead for your groceries. Stop in Cody on the way up, as there isn't much shopping close by. Use the opportunity to embrace the simplicity of this gem and its pristine location. Don't forget your camera!!! Owners are quick to answer questions and will go out of their way to make your visit special and memorable.
Owner response:Thanks for the nice review Ken and Joni, I know you will be coming back; you have stayed with us before. I hope you bring your kids and grandkids someday. Will show them a good time!

I have been a guest at another cabin owned by the Zickefooses, on two different occasions. The other cabin is close by and located on the other side of the river. You can visit Yellowstone from this location, or take short trips through the National Forest, either to the East or the West. If you need to pick up some groceries, you can get them at a scenic town named Cooke City which is a few miles to the North. If you don't want to do your own cooking, there is a nice little restaurant within walking distance from both cabins owned by the Zickefoooses. If you like to fish, there is a river that runs right by this cabin. If you like to ride horses, there is a ranch you can visit right across the road. If you are the kind of person who needs to get an adrenaline rush from time to time, you can ask "Zig" Zickefoose to give you ride in his pickup truck through a "shallow" stream up in the National Forest. (Just don't ask Zig to talk about the stream when his wife is listening!) I can't wait to see the newest cabin which is shown on this web page.
Owner response:Thanks for the nice review Brent; I hope to see you again next summer. Please don't be getting me in any more trouble; Mallie thinks we are a bad combination.
