Welcome to Patti's Country Garden Cottage, just minutes from the Historic Sonoma Valley Plaza, the perfect blend of comfort and privacy in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Beautiful gardens invite quiet walks, comfortable colorful chairs and benches for viewing breathtaking views of the surrounding hills, and a delightful 'Cape Cod' style gazebo for the perfect lunch await your visit.

The 'back pasture' is the home to a large Victory Garden while the large deck showcases the kitchen garden, full of tasty herbs and salad makings. In the fall, the apple and fig trees offer nutritious fruit; and the walnut trees are more than generous! Guests are invited to enjoy this bounty, all organically grown.

The quiet cozy (though spacious...925 sq ft) two bedroom, 1 1/2 bath cottage is fully furnished and easily accommodates four. The couch converts to a comfortable twin size bed which makes for a friendly five guests! On those cool evenings, the gas-fired Franklin stove adds a magical charm. Enjoy a glass of wine on your private deck, sip early morning coffee in the garden gazebo while gazing at the sun rising over the Sonoma hills, or sleep late and amble down to the Plaza for a latte and a chocolate croissant.

If you enjoy wine tasting close 'to home,' then be ready to visit at least 10 notable wineries less than 10 minutes from your deck. If Redwoods are on your list, the Muir Woods State Park is a demonstration forest of these gentle giants, just 40 minutes from Sonoma!

For a small town, Sonoma celebrates year round with festivals, music, in-season farmers' markets, fun-filled fundraisers for local charities, vineyard tours, and wonderful wine tastings. A special 'Taste of Sonoma' basket is the perfect beginning for your visit, filled with cheese, bread, fruit, and of course, a bottle of wine.

Whether you ride a bike, take a walk, enjoy an extraordinary dinner out, drive to the coast, enjoy San Francisco, or stay in your cottage, your visit will be restful and memorable. You will want to return, and you will always be welcomed!

We just returned from a wonderful stay at Patti's Cottage in Sonoma. It was a nice change for us to be away from the busy square, while still within 5 minutes of wineries, restaurants and parks. We also were relieved to not have to pack a ton of toys knowing the cottage had some for our 4 year old, not to mention the sand box and outdoor area for running around safely. There was plenty of space for the 3 of us with 2 bedrooms and 1.5 bath, and the kitchen was great for an easy breakfast and storing our perishables. Patti even left us milk in the fridge and fruit on the counter. We had a lovely walk through the garden and appreciated the convenient parking. It's a great place to relax in wine country.

Owner response: It was a pleasure talking with this family prior to their arrival to be sure everything was in order for their visit. They were excited about coming to Sonoma, and I enjoyed sending them information for their visit. When they left, I found some delicious treats as a thank you for their stay heret. How very thoughtful. I do hope they will visit again!

My wife, 4 year old son and I had a wonderful stay at the cottage. My son loved the gardens and the sandbox, and we loved the privacy.

Owner response: This delightful family enjoyed all the property had to offer, and their adorable little boy spent a fair amount of time in the sandbox. Once they had their introduction to the cottage and gardens, they simpy wanted quiet time with each other. I so enjoyed having them here and do hope they will visit again.

My wife and I stayed at this property over the Thanksgiving weekend and had a wonderful time. The property is impeccably maintained, very clean and comfortable. We loved the location, it was easy access to just about anywhere in Sonoma. Our was host was absolutely great. Upon arrival, we found that she had left us a bottle of wine, a fresh loaf of artisan bread and some items for the fridge. She went out of her way to make sure that we were well equiped as my wife had some cooking to do. All in all it was an outstanding experience, we would stay here again without hesitation. Many thanks for making your home "our home" for our stay in Sonoma!

This is a great location and perfect place to stay! Right in the middle of wine country and a quick drive to town. Patti is very welcoming and provides great suggestions. This spot makes for a great couples getaway. Everything that you might need, you will find in the cottage. If something isn't there, Patti is there to help. There was even a cooler to bring along snacks for a picnic. The house is clean and tidy. The garden is giant and beautiful. We even utilized the fresh basil from the garden. The welcoming treats are fantastic!

We so enjoyed our stay at this beautiful cottage in the heart of Sonoma. Patti is so welcoming and even added special birthday touches around the cottage for one of the members of our group. The gardens are gorgeous and were perfect for morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. Upon arrival we were also greeted with a great botttle of local wine, bread, cheese and fruit. This was so appreciated and set our trip off to a great start. We had great meals in Sonoma (Girl and the Fig; La Casa; Hop Monk), enjoyed a massage at the Sonoma Inn, did some wine tasting (Deerfield was our favorite!), and just enjoyed time relaxing around the cottage. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us! We plan to come again!

The photos and description don't do Patti's Country Garden Cottage justice. She was there to great us and provided us with local wine, cheese, and bread - a perfect. She has a beautiful acre-plus where she grows her own herbs, vegetables, lavendar (all of which she was kind enough to send us home with), and some beautiful flowering plants as well. The rooms had enough size and having the extra foldout in the living room was helpful. The place was very clean, and we found everything we needed in the kitchen and had no problems with any appliances - plus she had a great assortment of bath washes. The location was great - 5 minutes to all of the shops and restaurants at the plaza, or a long walk if you're in the mood for some exercise. We were in town for a wedding, and Patti even offered to pick us up if we drank too much! To top it off, she double-checked and found sunglasses and a hair straightener that we left and sent it to us the next day. The next time we come to Sonoma with a 4-5 person group, we're definitely staying here!

Owner response: This young couple and their good friends were wonderful guests and very busy for the weekend. I enjoyed time with the when they arrived and again on the morning of their departure. They so enjoyed Sonoma...the Plaza, shops, wine tasting, and events associated with the wedding. We did take some time to sample some of the treats from the gardens and to share tips for growning herbs where they live. Most of them live in the Greater Bay Area, and I certainly hope they visit again.

We went to Sonoma for a girl’s weekend and stayed in Patti’s place. Patti was very warm & friendly, and very helpful from the beginning all the way until our departure. Patti really went out of her way and really take care of us! We had a wonderful time staying at Patti’s and the trip wouldn’t be the same if we stayed elsewhere. Thanks so much for everything Patti! We will definitely come and stay at your place for our visits to Sonoma!

Owner response: This group of lovely, long-time friend ladies arrived with smiles, excitement, and enthusiasm. They enjoyed all the gardens, the cottage, and all that Sonoma had to offer. They spent time on the Sonoma Plaza, ate at two wonderful restaurants in town, visited several local wineries, and walked to the Plaza from the cottage for a little exercise. All I heard during their stay was laughter and conversation about how wonderful it was for them to be together. They were charming, dressed up each evening for dinner, and met plenty of locals at a popular bar on the Plaza. It was wonderful to have them visit, and I certainly hope they will return with their husbands and children!

Our family stayed for a couple of nights at this charming cottage. But it is so much bigger than expected and seems much more like a home you are visiting. It has everything you could possibly need, including wi-fi internet service. The four of us all slept comfortably and Patti, our host, was so gracious. We hope to come back some time soon.

Patti was wonderful and the cottage was the perfect place to stay. Patti was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us great recommendations on places to go. The cottage was perfect for the four of us that went. The gardens and deck were a wonderful place for breakfast in the morning. The next time I am in Sonoma I will definately be staying at Patti's cottage, it was a perfect weekend!

Since I have family in Sonoma, we've been using this lovely cottage as our "home away from home" for different occasions over the past five years. We've visited in all four seasons, each one bringing its own delight. A favorite springtime memory: the family of quail that lives in the gardens, scuttling about with new babies in line. A favorite summertime memory: sitting on that beautiful deck and enjoying fresh basil and tomatoes in a caprese salad from Patti's garden boxes, which she so generously shares with guests. A favorite fall memory: meditating in the back garden, surrounded by the crisp autumn air and brilliant colors of the vineyards and mountains beyond - and eating figs!. A favorite winter memory: discovering that even in the "dead of winter" there is still a variety of tiny flowers blooming, and Patti was kind enough to supply ribbons for me to make miniature bouquets. Each time we return I'm amazed to see that Patti has continued to upgrade the place, even though it was wonderful to start with. Some of these are big upgrades: new, thermal paned windows; the huge gorgeous deck; on-going extensive garden improvements; a darling new heater-stove; a new flat-screen TV; and this last time, a whole new half bath in the works! She really cares about her guests' comfort. If you are interested in a place that will nourish your spirit and not be just another vacation rental, this is the spot. It's Patti's love of the land, and her love of fellow human beings that makes it so.

Owner response: This charming family has been a welcomed and frequent visitor to the cottage. Gracious and endearing, they have shared family stories and events while here. About two years ago, the author of the review left a beautiful stone sculpture in the garden which is now surrounded by wild herbs and flowers. Many visitors have since enjoyed that spot in the garden. I look forward to sharing time with these delightful people again...hopefully soon!

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 1987

About the owner: 1987 was a life-changing year! On the way back from a cross-country trip, I drove to Sonoma, around the Historic Plaza twice, and decided to make this quaint town my new home. Three months later, I was the proud owner of 1 1/2 acres, just 20 walking minutes from that wonderful plaza. The past 25 years have been joyfully spent in reclaiming the land. My home is comfortable and inviting, the big red barn and old sheep shed have been restored, and the old shack and chicken coop replaced by a cozy cottage, visited by many over the years. Equally charming are the organic herb, vegetable, and flower gardens, watched over by the majestic native grown Redwoods, planted in 1988! Turning the back 1/4 acre into a magical walking path garden was a 20-year dream, finally completed in 2006. A unique gazebo, comfortable chairs and benches, and a welcoming Adirondack swing invite thoughtful moments amongst a variety of trees, flowers, native bushes, birds, rabbits, and an occasional fox. Every season brings new growth and surprises! The Sonoma Valley reminds me of two favorite places. It's surrounded by trees similar to the Flathead Valley in Northwest Montana and has the home-town feel of friendly people, festivals, and traditions of new England. Do come and visit my home; you will want to stay a while!

                  Why the Owner Chose Sonoma:
The 1987 cross-country trip in my 1979 VW camper (which is still on the property!) offered time for reflection in addition to the opportunity of meeting the most wonderful, down-to-earth people who shared a short time of their lives with me. From the mountains, across the great plains, to the East Coast and back, I found myself thinking of small towns. When I drove into Sonoma, something immediately felt 'right.' It was a life-changing moment. The people are kind, generous with their time to the many worth-while nonprofits here, and enjoy sharing the valley with visitors from around the world. Over the years, Sonoma has grown on me, and it is always a delight to share this magical place with visitors. Do come and experience this for yourself!

The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Two quiet bedrooms with comfortable mattresses. Full bath and a half plus an endless supply of fluffy towels. A basket of slippers for those chilly evenings. Dining area complete with a lovely round table and four comfortable chairs. Living room with a comfortable twin size coach/hide-a-bed sleeper and a “country barn” view. Full kitchen – right down to pots, pans, dishes, and silverware. A private deck for watching the setting sun over the Sonoma Valley hills. The kitchen garden on the larger deck provides fragrant and tasty herbs while the Victory Garden offers delicious vegetables, organic of course. Fig and apple tress offer nutritious snacks and the walnut trees are equally generous. The added bonus are the sunsets over the Sonoma Hills; and when the moon is full, the valley is breathtaking.
