We stayed here for three weeks in August and completely enjoyed our stay. The house has all the character and charm of a vintage beach bungalow, with all the updated comforts of a newer place. The street is so quiet and lovely, the fenced yard is incredibly private, the locals are very nice, and a short walk to town, and the train platform for the Pacific Surfsider---a fun way to spend a day going up the coast. The beach is a short walk, and you will love the Salt Marsh Park that is nearby too. The house is really well groomed, and most relaxing...WE LOVED IT! You will too...Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+.

We had the good fortune to be able to stay at this charming cottage for 2 months. This place was exceptionally clean and well maintained. The home is equiped with everything you would need for a stay- right down to beach chairs. It is a short 4 block walk to the beach and a close walk to town (closer if you cross the RR tracks). We did hear the train but after awhile you get use to it and didn't even notice it. Although it has no views of the beach, it's proximity and price were worth it. It is a small 2 bedroom 1 bath just the right size for a couple. We would have stayed longer if we could have. I would highly recommend this cottage and would rent it again in a heartbeat...Recommended for: Sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway.

With only a fews days notice to the owner, I rented this home for the month of April, 2011. After having rented multiple out of state homes on VRBO over the years, site unseen, this is the only problem we've ever experienced. For a number of reasons, the home was not going to work for my situation. I felt I had explained what I was looking for, and that I was mis-guided by the owner. Within 2 hours of my arrival, I contacted the owner to let them know it just wasn't going to work, and was astounded by their reaction. They became very rude, told me their mother needed the money, and that once I entered the property I was legally obligated to the rental. From there, they said that if I didn't stay at all, they would charge me 30% of the monthly fee (a cleaning fee plus keep my deposit) for having entered their property, and if I stayed one night, they would charge me slightly less, the cleaning fee plus a significant nightly rate) Because it was the lower amount, I stayed the 1 night, and then left. In my view, given they had not lost another rental opportunity given this was a spur of the moment rental, I felt the cleaning fee, which was significant given the property, was more than sufficient for a 2 hour stay, and that I had been misled to secure the rental and then gouged. This property should be seen before it is rented, for a variety of reasons, including that the ad doesn't mention things about the neighborhood such as the active rail line across the street. This was a unique and our first disappointing VRBO experience.Owner response: This Woman requested to rent our property shortly after having to leave the property she was supposedly staying at in Malibu. This should have been our first clue, but we did all we could to accommodate her wishes. It's funny that she mentions the sight of the rail line across the street, which you cannot see from our house. She told us that the beach did not accommodate her elderly dog in a stroller. She called us after entering the house, so if she didn't like the location, why did she enter the house with her 2 dogs? She admitted that she did not read the Home Away Rental Agreement that she signed and returned to us. We thought it was only fair that she be charged the cleaning fee and 1 nights rent, since she and her 2 dogs entered the house. If the house is such a sight, why did we rent it for a month soon after she was there? By the way, she also told me that she couldn't afford the house because she was unemployed. If you are unemployed, why would you rent a beach house? One excuse after another, I don't know what to say, other than everyone who has rented our house has said it is a really nice house.
