Wow where do I start. My wife and I just can't stop talking about how wonderful our stay was. We keep telling each other I wish I was back in the DR again. Let me just say that Don and Diana are so accommodating. They had made sure our stay there was the most memorable trip we could have. Totally awesome. When we had arrived we had dinner prepared for us on our awesome terrace. Which overlooked the mountain top and ocean view. We stayed in the Jasmine. Which I highly recommend. Diana was so sweet with sitting down with us and accommodating Yoga for my wife and any questions we had to make us feel right at home and very comfortable in anything that we wanted to do. Don was great about helping us plan our outings. He sat down and explained where the best spots were, prices, and directions and what to expect. We could not have done it without Don and Diana. We are a pretty active couple so sightseeing and activities is what was on our list. We went to Don's sailing club which was an amazing experience. Went sailing with Saul on one of there catamarans. Swimming in the middle of the ocean with perfect bath water was like a dream come true. Our second outing was horseback riding in the mountains at the waterfalls. The people our so nice in making sure we are having an awesome time. Taking pictures for us. Spectacular views of the hill side and waterfalls. Oh and I cannot forget we did our grocery shopping in town. Then had Mauty the cook prepare our dinners for us. When we would arrive back at the resort everything was done dishes, table set, dinner on the table. Perfect cooking. That was so awesome. We felt so special and treated so fairly threw-out our stay. Among a couple of other things we did is walked the beaches, tanned on the beaches which our simply gorgeous. Did the zip lines in Samana. Wow what an experience of a lifetime. Truly that was the highlight of trip. Did some snorkeling. Very beautiful. The true blue waters, the white sandy beaches average of 88-92 degrees F everyday. I can tell you this. My wife and will again return. We were so impressed with the Island and everything it had to offer. The Monte Placido is definitely the place to stay. You will not regret your stay!! Thank you so much Don and Diannia. You helped My wife and I have the perfect honeymoon of a lifetime. Can't wait to see you and the DR again. Sincerely, Robert and AnniaOwner response: Thank you Robert and Annia for all the details. Future visitors to Samana Peninsula will appreciate your comments when planning their outings. For sure next Winter up in Minesota you will be dreaming of coming back down as soon as possible.. You will be most welcome. Without being biased I truly believe that the DR and Samana Peninsula has much more to offer than many other Carib. islands. Namely, the costs are much lower, frequent flights, friendly Dominicans that just make the difference as most of others have beaches and mountains as nice as ours. Don and Diana

This place is wonderful. Our family of 5 spent four nights here in mid-April, in the Gardenia unit. These are Mediterranean style houses build on top of one of the many hills in this area. The views of the region and the ocean to the North are stunning. I believe the Gardenia unit is the only unit that does not have ocean view directly from the rooms, it looks over a lovely valley to the east. The grounds are stunningly landscaped; and the pool and yoga grotto are just beautiful. Just as wonderful are the hosts. Don gave us very helpful advice on what and how to see the attractions in the area, and what to avoid. This is a perfect base for exploring the entire Samana Peninsula. We visited 6 beaches during our visit, all of them nice in their own distinct way. We took out a Hobie cat from the LT Sailing Club, a nice perk when staying at Monte Placido. The zip line north of Samana and the waterfalls near El Limon are both very convenient from Monte Placido, and worth visiting. The day trip over to Las Galeras is a little over an hour, and a nice place to visit. Compared to the alternative of staying at a place in Las Terrernas, there is no comparison in my mind. LT has lots of cars, noise, and the smell of burning garbage at night; worth a visit during the day, but you wouldn't want it to the focus of your visit. Any difficulties? To get that beautiful view the villas are on top of a steep hill. The driveway up the hill is similar to some drives on the Mediterranean, steep and winding, and a bit daunting to flatlands like me the first time. If we are lucky enough to return to this area, we already know where we will be staying.Owner response: Thank you for your kind compliments. We really appreciate it. It is true MONTE PLACIDO is strategically located just East of Las Terrenas to explore Samana, its many beaches and wonders In my opinion why stick to 1 over developed beach close to town when you have 1/2 dozen pristine beaches just waiting for you after a short drive. True, it is nice to be close and a reasonable walking distance to one beach for a nice leisurely morning walk. But being close to beach also means being next to wet lands in the back where mosquitoes naturally reproduce then in the evenings come looking for worm blooded creatures trying to enjoy a drink on the terrace next to the pool. Up here on our little mountain, we are virtually bug free as we are open to the trade winds. Yes, it is challenge to come up our road the 1st time. But then guests get use to it and say each time that it is worth it. Welcome to future guests.

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at Monte Placido. The property is absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in Magnolia, a lovely 2 bedroom home with a breathtaking view of the ocean and valley below. The kitchen had almost everything we could need, and I was so grateful for some details (such as coffee and a small box of milk, dish washing soap, and hand soap) that are often missing in rentals in the DR. The owners are incredibly helpful and gracious. The pool and yoga cave are incredible. Be prepared for the steep driveway - you may not be able to make it without 4 wheel drive. We loved Monte Placido and I hope we can go back!Owner response: Thank you Bridget. Yes, we put ourselves in travelers shoes and make sure that small details even dish soap with a sponge will make a difference. Our WELCOME BREAKFAST BASKET is considered a God send by our guests that can enjoy a sunrise continental breakfast over the ocean. Who wants to go shopping first thing in the morning? For late arrivals we also have dinner prepared by our cook or we have pizza delivered. Yes, it is impressive the 1st time up here. After 1st impression all our guests say it is worth it. And in any case we do have our own pool of 4x4s.

We loved Monte Placido. The owners are helpful and friendly, and the staff on the job and sweet. The landscaping is breathtaking--you are living in a garden. I used the yoga cave frequently for a private exercise space with a view and shade. Our Leuka cottage came with lovely French cookware, crystal and china. What a delight. Be mindful of the steep grade and hairpin turns on the driveway--a challenge on our arrival after dark, but the directions were excellent from Santo Domingo. A car is not essential, but we are very glad to have rented one at the airport for our month long stay. We drove into Las Terrenas, about 8 k away, frequently, for lovely fresh produce and fish. And we drove daily to a beach only 3 k away for sun and sand.Owner response: Thank you Caroly. The fact that Portillo beach where you went most often is just 1 of another 1/2 a dozen to choose from. Yes renting a car, or a motorbike or a quad to tour Samana is better than depending on tour operators to show you around. Much more flexible and not that more expensive. Oh yes quite a drive up but worth as say all our guests. Thks again for your comments. Don

What an amazing place Monte Placido is! The pictures don't lie, it was like staying in paradise....and that's becasue that's exactly what this place is. Amazing views, landscaping and the pool overlooking the Caribean Sea. My boyfriend and I stayed at one of the villas for 5 nights (we even got a free upgrade from one bedroom villa to a two bedroom!) and we couldn't have been happier about the place. Beautiful, spacious, quite and clean. The owners, Don and Diana, were very helpful and gave us tips on trips, restaurants, etc.which you do need if you have never been to Samana before. Also, renting one of their scooters is a must - riding around and feeling like a dominican was super fun, just watch out for the missing menhole covers! We will definitely recommend Monte Placido to our friends and family. We Hope to be back one day. Thank you Don and Dianna! And special thanks to Jean Claude!! My wife and adult son stayed here for a great vacation week. View is breathtaking as are the grounds. Beautiful plantings abound tended to by a great staff and owners. The house is charming also and is displayed accurately in the photos [we stayed in Falcona]. Very tastefully and artfully decorated. There was a small plumbing issue that was addressed quickly. Kudos to Jean Claude. The downside for some may be the need to drive to any swimming beach but there are so many to choose from that its completely worth it. By all means get a high clearance vehicle if not a 4 wheel drive if possible if you plan on traveling the smaller side roads. Which is almost necessary to reach any of the more remote and beautiful beaches [i.e. Coson, Moron and Bonita]. For restaurants our favs were La Cave Y Vin which features a great wine selection at the lowest prices by far. For lunch enjoy Cafe Coson and the restaurant at the Atlantis hotel at Playa Bonita. Don will be more than willing to help with recommendations on beaches, restaurants and touring the area. For us, a great week. Thanks again Don and Diane. We hope to return and would highly recommend this rental.Owner response: Thank you for your great review. It will be of great help future guests in their decision making.

We spent one week in this wonderful hilltop villa at the start of our 2 week vacation in the Samana region of the DR. My husband found this on line and since the overall reviews were all great we took a chance. Well you really have to see it to believe it. How Don & Diana created this gorgeous property out of the hillside is truly amazing and their creative vision is rare. The property is so well laid out right from the villas themselves to the grounds, pool and what can be said about the new yoga studio and meditation cave......surreal. :) The property owners are super helpful and so friendly and accommodating to your needs. It is a steep road up to the property and if you are healthy and fit you can walk it but not with a lot of stuff to carry. The 4 x 4 we rented from Don & Diana was great and since we were not super confidant with driving the road esp when it is wet ( FYI we live on the bald prairie in Manitoba where hills are gradual and rare) Don allowed us to leave it at the base of the property and we just walked up and down each day with our backpacks on. The little town of Las Terranas is a short 10-15 min drive and the beach there is so beautiful and LONG....we walked for miles each day. Great food, lots of restaurants to choose from...that's another review :) But do not miss the French bakery...just ask Don. The villa was clean and well appointed...loved the shower cuz it felt like you were showering outside with an amazing view of the mountaintop behind. The beds were comfy and there was no need for AC as the bedroom ceiling fans were great and really the breeze great as well......no pesky mosquitos either. The terrance was perfect for watching the sunrise each morning sipping dominican coffee and reading......also sun salutations as the sun rises....an experience that cannot be imagined. The kitchen has everything u need with a full fridge although we only cooked breakfast mainly and ate out otherwise....vacation you know. There are some lovely cooks on site that will prepare a full dominican style meal for you at a very reasonable price and did so for us twice....scrumptious! The infinity pool is so refreshing and you feel so " rich" while relaxing in it. We ate both our meals by the pool in the dining area which you can just arrange the cook to bring the food down there to you after she prepares it in your kitchen ( and cleans up after) This place is really great value for the beauty of what you will experience!!Owner response: Val said it all! We are very appreciative as her review will help future guests decide to come and stay with us on our little mountain top.

I had the chance to take a long weekend break from work in New York and needed some quiet R and R when I found this listing. I have frequently visited Las Terrenas and know if quite well, but now there is a service on Jet Blue that goes from JFK to Samana El Catay Airport in just 3.5 hours direct. Previously I had flown to Santo Domingo and rented a car to drive the 2 hours to Las Terrenas. This new service cut hours off the travel time and I was in LT by lunch! What a difference this new airport and the new scenic highway along the ocean makes to traveling to Samana. The studio Rosa fit my budget (low) and Don was able to arrange transfer from the new Airport to their place. I did rent a good 4 wheel drive car to get up and down the mountain paradise, which is a steep and sometimes slippery route. I have never felt so safe and secure in Las Terrenas nor have I ever slept so well as I did on "Monte Placido" I found the room comfortable and clean and enjoyed the private patio in the evenings. I didn't use the pool but it is lovely and the view of the ocean is magnificent. Don is a great gardener and the estate is beautifully landscaped. I found it very easy to communicate online with Don and Diana and they were wonderful hosts. I appreciated that they left me to myself and I felt very private up there. I was down for some serious rest. They provided a bunch of breakfast food and booze on arrival which is so kind; you don't have to worry about groceries on the first night. The place is about 15 minutes drive on a beautiful stretch of road along the ocean to Las Terrenas town where you need to go for shopping, eating out and beaches. There is a good French owned grocery store with a remarkable range of imported food and there is a range of good and cheap places to eat in town. But after a few hours in the blustering noise and activity of Las Terrenas, you are happy to return to the peace and tranquility of the Monte. I would recommend this place to people who want more independence and a tranquil holiday. This is not a place for party animals. I had a great time and cant wait to get back to the DR.Owner response: David come for more R and R in the Las Terrenas only 3.5 hours away from NYC. We are sure that you will be coming back very soon. It was a pleasure welcoming you and thank you for your review that will help future guests plan their venue.

Monte placido feels like you are in heaven. The amazing view and mountain top setting are so amazing, its so easy to loose yourself in the tranquility. The front house where we stayed had the most amazing view . The house itself was so comfy as well, the kitchen had everything you could ever need, all we brought was food. Most houses come with a fully functional gas bbq which made cooking a breeze! The infinity pool was just amazing and made us not miss the beach at all. The owners are soooo nice and helpful, they are the best! ( Be aware if you are looking to party on the beach this is not the place for you, the beach is about 10 minutes away which is great, but it is not beach adjacent. ) One last thing, dont forget to check out the yoga caves!!Owner response: Thank you Marlen for your review. We try to do our best to make our guests feel at home. Your review will help future guests. Yes, you are right. "Minutes away to beach" but one clarification minutes away to 3 pristine beaches and many more on Samana Peninsula to choose from. Yes, our pool is the ideal place to plan your next beach outing. Monte Placido is a lovely place with a spectacular view of the mountains and ocean. Don and Diana have put a lot of work and loving care into making it a home and a great place to stay. We had a beautiful view from our place. We ended up staying in Jasmin because our place was not quite ready due to Sandy. I know Don and Diana are working hard to update all of their units. We had some trouble finding the place, got lost and we didn't speak any Spanish. We finally reached Don and lead us to his place. It is true, that it is a very steep hill to get up there and it is quite hard to find. The landscaping is an amazing array of beautiful flowers and plants that Don has spent a lot of time in planning and planting. It is amazing the way they have built Monte Placido on a hillside. It is so unique. We loved the infinity pool and ended up spending a lot of time there just relaxing. The weather was beautiful, except for a few doozy storms at night. Don and Diana were very helpful in finding places to go. Our only real problems was that very little English is spoken there and most of the menus were in Spanish and French. We got fresh lobster delivered on one day and when we arrived we had the most delicious Mahi Mahi waiting for us. We enjoyed it on our balcony in candlelight. They also had breakfast and other items stocked in the kitchen. Thank you Don and Diana for being such great hosts.Owner response: We are thanking on behalf of future guests that will appreciate your comments when deciding to stay with us. We added a new sign to help guests find us and we are editing both the map and driving instructions which can be found on our website. We do our up most to be sure that you can just relax when you make it up here.

It was safe, pleasant and scenic drive from Santo Domningo to Las Terrenas. After the steep climb up there we were amazed by the explosion of colors and tropical plants and palms.(Don the owner is a landscaper that helps). And most awesome is the 380 surrounding panorama of the mountains, ocean and coconut groves below, Unbelievable! We arrived at Monte Placido late afternoon where both Diana and Don welcomed us. It is so nice to have your hosts there to show you around. They had a welcome basket for us. No need to go shopping for dinner of breakfast. It was all ready for us so we could just start immediately enjoy our vacation. On that note, they have a cook that can come and prepare local goodies. Even had the fishermen deliver on site his the catch of the day (including live lobster). Our villa felt like home everything you need and more was provided. The villa is wide open to ocean breezes. No need for air conditioning which was great. It really is an INFINITY pool and virtually seems to cascade into the ocean. We did have leave our mountain retreat and visited 4 beaches. The more pristine beaches of El Rincon, Playa Valle on the East side a convenient scenic drive from Monte Placido and on the West the more trendy beachs of Coson only 15 minutes away. There is a spectacular fully quipped Yoga Studio on site. "The Yoga Cave" is partially inside a natural cave and you need to take pictures of this! Join Diana daily for Yoga.. at the Cave or in town. As guests of Monte Placido we also took advantage of the Sailing Club on Playa Ballenas where we used the kayaks FOC and even took a wild ride on a catamaran. Diana and Don were always there to provide tips on restaurants and things to do. Las Terrenas offers a unique assortment of restaurants thanks to the large Expat community. French, Italian, Spanish even Russian and more all of these cuisines blended with local touch of Creole specialties. They pointed us to the zip lining, the water falls but we will be back next Winter to see the whales. Yes, we will go back. Monte Placido where we stayed, Las Terrenas and Samana has everything to offer compared to other Caribbean Islands that visited over the years.Owner response: The whales will be here in Jan and Feb. See you then. Thanks for great detailed review, it will help future guests plan their venue. Great news. As of November JETBLUE is serving our local airport El Catey Samana from JFK. Only a 45 minute drive. Sincerely

We very much enjoyed our stay in the Falcona villa at Monte Placido. The views were absolutely spectacular and the villa was comfortable. The pasta meal, snacks, rum and breakfast items provided in the fridge were most appreciated after a traveling such a long way from home. We did rent a car at the airport and ended up with some difficulties which Don very graciously helped us to correct. Perhaps it would have been a better idea to take transportation from the airport to Las Terrenas and rent a car from Don as was suggested on the website. Don and Diana were very gracious hosts sharing a lot of information about the area, restaurants, beaches and things to do. The many local beaches are really amazing, and with the lent mask, snorkel and flippers from Don, we were able to do a little snorkeling which was really fun. We didn't end up using the Sailing Club facilities but really loved the Ballenas beach in front of the club with its' beautiful turquoise waters. We thought the best lunch deal in town was at La Serviette and also at Casa Coson at Coson beach which was really delicious and the beach is fun with some surf to ride on. We went to both places twice and were not disappointed. We enjoyed our lunch at the beautiful, upscale Porto, as well. We are foodies, so enjoyable meals are important to us. I do have a suggestion and that is to be more clear on directions to Monte Placido. The sign post mentioned on the directions at Baracoa was not there so the tiny dirt road was challenging to find. However, when we asked a local villager, he jumped in the car and directed us, which was a little disconcerting at first, but worked out well with a tip, of course. Perhaps a big sign on the road on both sides of the street would be helpful for guests to find your lovely villa more easily. Thank you Don and Diana, for making our stay so delightful. Donalee and RobertOwner response: We are working on a sign " Dominican Time " it will be ready in a couple weeks. Thanks for your review which will be great help for future guests

Yes, the hill is steep but once you are on the top the view is fantastic and Don and Dianna are the perfect host and hostess. I am writing this as I sit next to the pool enjoying the sun and the cool tropical breeze. The amenities are as promised, my rooms are clean (and kept that way), the trip to the beach is only 10-12 minutes and the beach itself is unbelievable. My husband and I loved the property (especially the pool. Barely left it!). The pictures are just as the property advertises. Proof of this, is that our vacation pictures look just like the ones the owners posted. The property is wonderfully kept up. Beautiful Flowers---and the view is breath taking. Every morning we woke up in awe. Our vacation consisted of 2 beautiful dinners in town, making and enjoying many drinks by the pool, swimming, kayaking, and experiencing life in the Dominican Republic. The town that is nearby (Las Terrenas) has everything you will need--banks, restaurants, bars, and beach. A few word of advice--believe Don, when he says to take his driver from the airport. It will be safer and more pleasant than if you try to go your own way. Not worth saving the few hundred dollars to rent your own car that might not make it up the mountain easily. The cars on the property are more that sufficient for as much driving as you need to do in town. And, he rents them to you at a great price. Don and Diane arranged for us to have massages on site. The yoga studio in a beautifully decorated cave is quite special, if you are into that. Truths of the DR and location, 1. There are a few bugs. Not shocking. It's the tropics. 2. This location is meant for a place for you to feel like you live there. So, you make your breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. You have to travel into town (15 minutes) to get restaurant meals. There is a great grocery store in town to fend for yourself as well. Which we did for our drinks as well. 3. The roads are dark at night, and the people that live there drive like crazy people. That's no ones fault, just be warned. We got along ok. 4. The mountain that you drive up is over a small village in the Dominican Republic. Quite nice people and a school are there. The village is not Las Terrenas--the village is just one street you turn down to get to and from the property. Las Terrenas is just 15 min away. Above all--Don and Diane are wonderful hosts. Any questions you have, they will answer. Thank you for a wonderful vacation! Gwen & RennerOwner response: Thank Gwen and Renner for your time and such a nice review. Your comments will help future guests in their decision making.

This place is not as advertised. Our room did not look like the pictures. Our room looked like grandma's house that was never updated - not a beautiful resort in the hidden in the hills. The pool pictures are taken from a very good angle, it does not look like the pictures in person. There is no air conditioning in the Villa which is a must in a tropical climate. Our room did not have a TV. There is nothing to do on the property and you must drive to get any form of entertainment. There were a huge number of bugs in our room which we did not experience in any of our other accommodation in DR. It wasn't because we left our screen door open, there were ants and dead bugs all over the shower. The driveway to the property is absolutely impossible to drive up without four wheel drive if there is any rain. One night when we came back around 10pm, we tried to get up the driveway but our SUV skidded backwards down the hill. Don heard us but nobody came down to help us. We are in good shape so walking up the hill wasn't too hard for us. If you don't hike or exercise regularly, it will be a challenge. Plus the ground is wet, there are no lights and no railings along the side of the cliff. There is absolutely no signage to the property. Since it's in a remote location above a slum, it's hard to find. You need to arrive before it gets dark. Over all the quality is more backpackers then resort. Some people will love it some people will hate it. On the plus side, the owner is friendly, the outside of the buildings are attractive, the landscape is beautiful and the view from the property is good. The owner's house is amazing.... Dinner was waiting in the fridge when we arrived. Along with wine, rum and coke. There is a water dispenser in the room.Owner response: We please ask our future guests to consider objectively all other seventeen 4.5 and 5.0 reviews presently on Homeway and on FLIPKEY/Tripadvisor and on our own website. On all three sites, NO photo tricks, the Studio with antiques and the pool are shown as they really are, the property description, the services and the amenities are clearly listed and defined. And yes, we are on a tranquil mountain top away from it all and close to a quaint and typical, clean Dominican village, we are not a resort and never claimed to be. We take pride in living in harmony with the Dominicans that have welcomed us to their beautiful tropical paradise. (sorry but not always bug free) We are quiet astounded by our first bad review. Especially from guests who never spent any time with us . The guests arrived mid afternoon and did have trouble getting up our hill at that time, they voiced no other complaint nor made any other remarks. My husband and I traveled to Santo Domingo the same day and upon returning the following afternoon we discovered they had never moved in. They had immediately checked into a Boutique Resort Hotel on the beach. Later, we refunded their deposit even though we were not obligated to do so. As they mentioned.. we were friendly, there were no hard feelings and so we were surprised by their comments. We systematically present to all our future guests all possible information to prepare their venue, have a nice time and relax. We welcome constructive and realistic criticism that helps us offer quality service commensurate with our pricing policy and our environment. Please come and join us on top of our little mountain top geatway. Sincerely Diana and Don

My husband and I spend 1 week at Monte Placedo and what an adventure. This I must say was one of our favorite vacations. We usaually do all inclusives, but we though we would try something different this year and we are glad we did. Don arranged for a ride for us from the airport and had to problems at all, We stayed in the Jasmin and what a wonderful view from both our terrance and the bedroom. Dinner was waiting for us when we arrivied we also had a bottle of rum, beer breakfast stuff, it was just amazing, we did not have to leave the villa the first day. The villa was clean the staff was wonderful. We rented a car and did something different everyday. One night we gathered all the guests up and had a BBQ together along with Don & Dianne, it was a great way to get to know everyone. Don & Dianne are great hosts and we do hope to be able to do this again very soon. Thanks again Don & Dianne Kelley & PaulOwner response: It was a pleasure having you with us on top of MONTE PLACIDO the Dom Rep and Las Terrenas. Thank you Diana and Don

The hill-top setting is absolutely stunning, with 360 degree views of the ocean, gardens, mountains and forests. It's quiet, peaceful and breezy. There are apartments of varying sizes (we are enjoying the studio "Rosa") but all have splendid views, and use of the gorgeous pool. The owners are especially helpful and friendly. We highly recommend this place for people who love tranquillity with a view.Owner response: It is always a pleasure making our guests stays pleasant and relaxing.

Let's start by saying that Don and Diane Case (the owners) are the most friendly, welcoming people ever. They help me and my partner so much with information about Las Terrenas, what restaurant to go,attractions around the villa etc. The place has the most amazing view of the ocean, the balcony makes you feel like you are looking down from heaven. It is such an open floor plan, like every detail was well though before building it. So Romantic, So peaceful, So Perfect....Our souls were reconnected and found Joy in this wonderful peace of heaven.Recommended for: Romantic getaway
Owner response: Wow! almost " heaven " or paradise. that is what we have tried to make Monte Placido. Thank you Katiuska for your review. Really appreciate it.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I recently stayed for a week in the one-bedroom villa which was very spacious and had a lovely terrace with a view of the ocean. No matter where you are on the property, the views are magnificent. Right from the start, Don and Diana were very helpful in assisting us with our travel plans and questions since this was our first trip to DR. They lined up a driver to meet us at Santa Domingo airport - but when at the last minute we flew into Santiago (do not recommend, the drive is an hour more), the driver came to Santiago without complaint. Since we arrived later in the day than expected, they generously gave us enough food for dinner and breakfast and a bottle of wine (in addition to the welcome bottle of rum!). The next morning, Diana drove us around the town to point out good restaurants and places of interest, before dropping us off to pick up our Quad. She also helped us buy fresh shrimp right off the fishing boats! We returned to buy fish there on a regular basis and enjoyed grilling by the pool. As others have commented, it is nice to have the privacy of a villa, but the safety of a community. There is always someone on the property and a guard at night. You will need a car or quad. We had considered a scooter but if you are more than one person, the hill could be challenging! The quad worked well since we were not driving to other towns, and it handles the beach "roads" nicely and is easy to park. We drove back in the dark a few times and felt completely safe. For English speakers, another plus is that Don speaks Spanish and French in addition to English and Diana speaks Spanish as well. They know everything there is to know about the surrounding area and are so helpful, we can't imagine having made our first trip to Las Terrenas without having stayed with them. And we are already making plans to return!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

My husband and I rented Villa Margarita for six months this winter and were thrilled with every aspect of the rental. The house is well-maintained and well-decorated with all the amenities you would want. We had a gorgeous view from the entire north side of our house that we enjoyed every day while drinking coffee or eating a meal. We also loved the location - close to all the highlights of Las Terrenas and the surrounding beaches but tucked up on a very private hill with a breeze and everything we needed - including a beautiful pool, BBQ grill and community dining area where we often entertained friends or met other neighbors for dinner. Don and Diana went above and beyond with the service and help they provided to us. They are well-established in the community and can point you in the right direction for anything on your wishlist. They also made sure the gardens were always well tended and the setting was tranquil and secure. Our friends and family who visited us commented on how lucky we were to have found such and ideal location with such fabulous hosts. We agreed! The only tricky part of staying here is the access which is via a very steep driveway. You will want to have a quad or 4-wheel drive vehicle to make your stay here most convenient. It's easy to rent either in Las Terrenas and driving here is no problem so don't hesitate to try it. We would highly recommend a short ot long-term stay at Villa Margarita or any of the apartments Don and Diana have to rent.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I HAVE VISITED THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC FREQUENTLY AND HAVE STAY IN MANY GREAT PLACES...NON AS CHARMING AS THIS MOUNTAIN TOP COMPLEX...AS FAR AS ADVENTURE, ENTERING AND EXITING WAS A THRILL!...BREATH TAKING VIEWS, MANICURED GARDENS, MINUTES FROM THE BEACH AND THE TOWN OF LAS TERRENAS...FINE DINNING IN TOWN. EVEN THOUGH WE DID MUCH COOKING. NIGHT LIFE IS COOL...MOSTLY BAR DISCOS BUT HANGING WITH THE LOCALS IS WHERE IT'S AT! MUCH FUN TO BE HAD...REALLY ALL KINDS OF ISLAND THINGS TO DO! THE VILLA WAS VERY CLEAN AND WELL KEEP! IF ANYTHING WAS NEED THE HOSTS PROVIDED EXCELLENT SERVICE. NO A/C BUT BEING UP TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN IT STAYS PRETTY COOL...WIFI AVAILABLE TO KEEP ME IN TOUCH & ABREAST TO WORLD EVENTS. VERY EZ TO LOOSE TRACK OF TIME...TRANQUIL AND PEACEFUL & SECURE UP THERE!... THE INFINITY POOL WAS GREAT DAY OR NIGHT...BUT AT NIGHT THE POOLS LIGHTS,PROVIDED A FABULOUS ROMANTIC SETTING FOR ME & MY WIFE...AWESOME! THERE WAS NOTHING I DIDN'T LIKE ABOUT THE PLACE! HOST ARE WONDERFUL! MY WIFE & I WOULD STAY HERE AGAIN IF IT'S AVAILABLE!I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ALL WITH A SENSE OF ADVENTURE AND ROMANCE! ;)Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I stayed here in April, and I could not have been more satisfied! First, the property is landscaped professionally by the owners themselves. A rich greenery of shrubs, trees, and flowers covers almost the entire property. This provides not only beauty, but privacy for each home as well. I cannot overstate how truly lovely this place is! Arriving in the Dominican Republic, one of my major concerns was security. The moment I stepped foot on "Monte Placido", those fears were dismissed. The front entrance to the property is through a large iron gate. Also, the gardener lives on the property full-time, with his house overlooking the main entrance. Furthermore, a night watchman is provided (at no cost), and there are two dogs (a doberman and rottweiler) that live on and protect the property full-time. My only slight concern was navigating the road on the front of the hill. But the owners were nice enough to give me advice on transportation, and they were always friendly and accommodating if they were going into town. It can be navigated easily with a four-wheel vehicle. Finally, the owners themselves could not have been nicer or more generous. They have provided every luxury one could hope for - including a generator that powers the entire property should the lights flicker. I was there for a week and was able to wash all the stress and worry away! High recommended!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: True it is a climb to make up here but worth it! Don't worry, the dogs are not ferocious and well trained. Thank you Scott for your review.

I have had the pleasure of staying at Mont Placido, the home of Don & Diana Case on several occassions. Don & Diana are very gracious and make a special effort to insure your stay is a pleasant and confortable. The villa is oustanding with unbelievable ocean views from every room.. The rooms are quite large and the ocean view terrace is very large and where you will spend most of your time. it is fantastic. The gardens and pool area are professional desgined and maintained. You want regret staying at Monte Placido. I plan to return often, infact, I consider Monte Placido my home away from home and my little piece of paradise in the Caribbean.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We stayed in Jan/Feb when the warm Dominican climate contrasts so well with the European winter. The hilltop views are truly magnificent and there is a great feeling of nature and tranquility here. The villas are well spaced thus providing independance from other residents whilst forming a little community together with the owners' property. We had a wonderful stay in this residence which is beautifully surrounded on all sides by lush tropical vegetation, and yet within a short drive of the fine sandy beaches and all the attractions of Las Terrenas town. Elegant swimming pool area with barbeque ideal for a meal or just a cool drink. Our apartment had a very large terrace which was perfect for eating outside or relaxing in the sun and the modern cooking facilities enabled us to prepare our meals when we weren't out dining in the local reasonably-priced restaurants. Our hosts, Don & Diana, were charming and very helpful when it came to advice on what to visit in the area and which places to avoid. Whenever we had a problem they were always available to assist us and put us back on track. I would thoroughly recommend this address to anyone looking for a well-equipped holiday villa in a romantic and relaxing location and run by a friendly couple with a professional attitude.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Several times I have been lucky enough to experience life on Monte Placido. I can only agree with the above descriptions : Breathtaking 365° panorama, beautifully maintained property, terraced tropical gardens, the cosy feel of security. Let me add : The Alizé trade winds keep it balmy and breezy. I enjoyed being away from it all yet in touch thanks to internet access. Removed from the noisy chaos of the town and yet having everything easily available. I am French so quality food is high on the priority list. Fresh regional products are easily available at the local fruit and vegetable vendors, the fish market on the beach, moreover there are a French and an Italian supermarket in town. As well as restaurants serving international cuisine. And since a place is always about the people, it's important to say that the owners are very generous about sharing their friends, invitations and clubs, so you are immediately part of the local scene - people, places, activities, and special events - the minute you arrive !Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Beatrice is right! The Europeans and the Dominicans in Las Terrenas have successfully developed a pot pourri of culinary tastes. Why not rethink French sauces by using coconut milk and tropical fruits instead of traditional ingredients...Get ready to put your taste buds to work. Beatrice is not only been our guest but has become a friend. Thank you!
