Only one home gets the honor of being the Jewel Of Borrego.
And it is located right across the street from the legendary De Anza golf course. There is simply nothing comparable, nothing as simple and rustic and elegant and authentic. The meticulously designed home is a frame for views of the desert. It is a fusion of the Alamo with a palace. Here is a home that will make you weep. It can be all yours for a week, a month, or longer.
Look closely at the photos. Picture yourself getting out of your car and walking up the stairway. The house does not reveal itself. You open the 200 year old Peruvian doors and there is the splendor of a courtyard with a fountain and two casitas, each with a large bathroom, each with a comfy, luxurious bed. It is like being in a vast villa in Morelia or in Malaga. Simple. Elegant. Soaring views of only the mountains and desert and sky, lots of sky.
Then you see enormous double wooden doors at the far side of the courtyard. You open them and enter another courtyard and gasp in wonderment: A 40 foot jewel of a pool and spa with views to the desert and surrounded by desert landscaping, and private, very private. A jewel.
Then you go inside the house through one on the many screened double doors. The living room has 16 foot beamed ceilings and enormous windows looking at the desert and in a corner is a fireplace. There are different conversation areas and right around the corner is a kitchen that was born in Mexico...large, working and drop dead beautiful. A jewel. The dining area is intimate, just right with a large wooden table. There is also a small porch, all by itself that faces east for quiet sunrises and for morning coffee.
Just around the corner is the master bedroom, the only bedroom in the main house. The ceilings are two-stories high with small windows to view the mountains and sky from your bed. And it is a place to lounge, to read in a large, easy chair. There is a king bed and large wooden desk made for famous writers. And there are double doors leading to the courtyard and pool. You may choose just to stay in the bedroom your entire vacation and keep pinching yourself. Yes, it is real. Yes, you are really here. Yes, it is truly a jewel.
Bring a camera because you will take photos of every room in the house, every angle in the house, every window, every shadow as the sun crosses the beautiful desert sky. If you do choose to go exploring beyond the house and out towards Henderson Canyon there are ancient Indian features and artifacts to discover, there is the serenity of the desert, there are animal trails that have been used for centuries and maybe a sighting of Big Horn sheep.
Of course, since you are right across the street from the De Anza golf course, you can always have a day or two of golf.
Here you are. You have found the one and only Jewel of Borrego.

Nice house with a good view of the mountains and desert. One problem is that the main house has only one bathroom which must be entered through the bedroom. it would be nice if there was a guest bathroom , or half bath.

Stayed Sept/Oct 2010; had a great time. The property was very roomy and clean, with all essential amenities. Enjoyed the courtyard and pool. Went on several hikes; the slot canyon was a favorite. The casitas are really nice for guests. We all had a very relaxing time, experiencing all weather conditions, from hot sunny days to wind/rain/lightning and an earthquake. Would recommend it and stay there again. Thanks for the opportunity.

Stayed here Sept 3 through 6th. Was hot but the house and pool kept everything cool for a great stay. Large kitchen with lots of cooking utensils. Very clean home in a neighborhood but still seems very secluded. Great host!! Awesome views of the stars. Will be back.
