Big Burn is located at the base of Big Powderhorn Mountain. The house is a three story 2,100 square foot, 4 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house. We purchased the house in 2005 when our kids first started skiing. In 2005 the entire house was gutted down to the studs and completely remodeled. Big Burn is kid friendly and family fun.
The house is listed as sleeping 10. However, we can accommodate more with 2 futons and two pull out couches. The futons and beds are new, and linens are changed with every guest via Big Powderhorn Lodging Association. We updated all linens to 250 thread count this year.
Stay in a single family house with first class amenities and the advantage of having 24 hour lodging assistance. We use the house at least once a month and all the amenities we use, we leave for our guest.

Holiday week is NOW OPEN. December 23rd - 26th is now available. The house will be decorated and Santa does have the address! Rates for the three days is $2250+taxes - that's only $75 per person per day. Additional days prior or the 23rd are available at a rate of $300 per night. The 26th may also be available.

New 8 person hot tub installed! Flat screens are now in every room except living room #2. The second patio door in living room 1 has been removed and replaced with windows making the room larger. Make you reservation now before ski season fills up.

Just returned from a long weekend. We skied in 10" of Powder all weekend. The snowmobile trails are great and groomed everyday. Don't forget to stop by the Alpen and get the mountain of Nachos. You won't be disapointed!
We still have President's weekend open and plenty of mid week days. Email for reduced mid week rates.

The hills have great skiing condition and the snowmobile trials are open. Ski one day, snowmobile the next. We have also added a foosball table for everyone's entertainment. We have only a couple weekends available during the ski season but plenty of weekdays for reduced rates.

Big Burn won the Quality Lodging Award today! We are very pleased that once again Big Burn has won an award for the quality of lodging we provide.
Wow is it snowing! We got 6 inches so far and the snow is still coming down. The hill open Friday and the skiing is great. With the additional snow overnight more runs will open and we will be skiing in powder tomorrow.

IT’S SNOWING!!! Finally Mother Nature has decided to drop the tempurture and start snowing. The Christmas tree is up and the house is decorated.

The fourth bedroom is finally done and the finishing touches have been made. We added two bunks beds and decorated the room in a fishing motif. We added a flat screen so the kids can watch cartoons all night. Other updates include a new gas grill on the second story deck. There are also two new flat screen TV's in the main family room and bedroom #2.
The hill is scheduled to open on December 11th and Indianhead is trying to open the day after Thanksgiving. The house will be decorated for Christmas and there will be a Christmas tree up for guests use.
Last year all of the towels were upgraded and this year we are working on updating all the linen with higher thread count sheets. All of the linen should be updated by December.
Snowmobiling news.
We finally got the county to approval snowmobile use on county roads. That means that we can now legally ride on Powderhorn Road to trail #2! We have plenty of parking for sleds and trailers. If you’re going to bring a large trailer you can either park on the road or let us know in advance and I will have the second driveway plowed for you.

The hill is busy with construction of the new tubing run!!! Our fourth bedroom is almost completed and ready for the final touches. Looking for fall colors? Now is the time to get to the UP for amazing scenery. Ski season is only two months away so now is the time to book the best dates.

So gone is the snow and with it the whirl pool room. It is being replaced with a new bedroom with 2 bunk beds to house the kids. Thus we have expanded the sleeping capacity to 10 people plus the 2 futons and 2 pull out beds.
The trails will open soon for ATVs.
We hiked the waterfalls and they are roaring. In a couple months we will begin swimming in the falls and in Lake Superior.
Last but not least, we started construction on the new tree fort. It is located 10+ feet above the ground and should be completed in a couple months. There might even be a zip line attached to it.
Yep skiing is over but summer fund is just starting. Book now for best rates.

Last weekend of skiing. Thanks to the BPLA and hill staff that worked extra hard to make the hill perfect for the last weekend.
Don't worry the ATV trails, hiking trails and fishing open soon. The golf courses should open in just a few weeks. You will be able to swim in the waterfalls in just a few months.

What a great year for skiing. In December we skied in powder and this weekend we skied in 55 degree weather on great snow. Every day was warm but the nights are cold enough to keep all the snow on the hill. There are still 3 weeks of skiing left and the weather is great.
Don't forget about the summer time in Michigan's UP. For the first time in years, we are opening Big Burn for rentals this summer.

Why the Owner Chose Bessemer
We bought a house at Big Burn because the first time we visited the area, we had the most amazing time with our kids. They loved the area and the mountain. Big Powderhorn Resort is perfect for the kids to learn to ski and challenging enough for the adults.
The Unique Benefits of this House
Besides skiing (by the way there is a free shuttle bus to the hill) there are so many other activities in the area - cross country skiing, snowmobiling, snow shoeing, fishing, hunting. In the summer Lake Superior is only 12 miles away. You can swim in Lake Superior or any of the dozens of waterfalls on the way to the lake. In the up and northern WI there are hundreds of miles of snowmobile and ATV trails. Summer or winter you will not be disappointed with Big Burn or the UP.

Comment from guest book Big Burn was a beautiful house and provided everything we needed to have a memorable vacation. The service that BPLA provided was also wonderful. They did everything they could in a timely fashion to make sure everything was topnotch! If you're looking for an amazing vacation house in Northern Michigan for skiing or snowboarding at a great rate, look no further. No complaints what-so-ever! Will almost definitely be returning in the future!
