25% OFF WINTER SALE. Sleeping Bison Lodge offers a Low Carbon Footprint vacation for outdoor enthusiasts. Passive solar design reduces need for back up heat by half, building-integrated PV panels generate 75% of the home’s electricity, and solar thermal system heats hot water. The PV system is grid tied, & there is gas back up to all heating systems, so the house is always warm and cozy. Water wise landscaping & organic veggie garden.
Built in 2002 and located on an acre in Hulen Meadows, 3 miles north of Ketchum, it offers a casual, activity-filled vacation in the famous Sun Valley paradise.
It has a spacious, professional quality kitchen (48' Viking range) with dining for 12. The adjacent living room has comfortable leather armchairs organized around a central stone fireplace. Decorated w/ African art and Oriental rugs.
Located directly above Hulen Meadows Pond & the bike path, outdoor activities are right at the doorstep: x-country & alpine skiing, biking, hiking, fly fishing, swimming, golf...
Eco-Friendly Vacation Property:
Sleeping Bison Lodge was custom designed by Rebecca F. Bundy, Design for Sustainable Living, LLC, to minimize environmental impact while providing perfect, comfortable living. Its passive solar design heats the home in winter and cools in summer. The active solar systems provide most of the home's electricity and hot water. The home is tied to the electrical grid and has an high-efficiency gas backup system, so there is never any shortage of heat or electricity. An energy efficient Rais woodstove provides an additional cozy heat source in the kitchen. Appliances were selected for efficiency, and CFL light bulbs are used throughout. The heavy timbers used in construction were all from standing dead trees, not live. The gardens feature water wise, native flowers and grasses and requires no irrigation. The organic veggie garden and passive solar greenhouse provide year-round, absolutely local produce.
Outdoor Paradise:
The Lodge has views of the Big Wood River, top of Baldy, Griffen Butte and Sleeping Bison Rock, for which it is named. It borders BLM land on its east property line. It is centrally located with easy access to all sorts of outdoor activities. In winter: at the north end of the bike trail, groomed for x-country skiing, 3 snowshoe trails accessible directly from the neighborhood, 5 miles from the SNRA and Harriman Trail cross-country skiing, 4 miles to Baldy ski area and 5 miles to Dollar Mountain, Sun Valley Lodge and the Sun Valley Nordic Center. In summer/fall: immediate access to 3 hiking/mountain biking trails and the bike path into Ketchum. Directly above Hulen Meadows pond, adjacent to the Big Wood River, for kayaking, world-class fly fishing, swimming and just letting the dogs run. Nearby are Big Wood and Sun Valley golf courses and the towns of Ketchum and Sun Valley. Wildlife include moose, elk, deer, black bear, coyote, fox, and a fabulous variety of native birds.
Design Features:
Sleeping Bison Lodge provides for casual, comfortable living in well designed spaces. The fabulous kitchen/dining area adjacent to the living room is well-equipped for entertaining large groups of friends and family. The rooms are spacious & light with high ceilings & large windows. Each main room has French doors to access the outdoors. 38 custom fir trusses support the fir decked, vaulted ceiling. Each upstairs bedroom has a loft in the vaulted space! Beams, custom cabinetry, windows, doors, trim and upper level floors are all fir, stained clear so the beautiful wood grain is visible. The fireplace and 3-story chimney is clad in Montana slate, which is also used for the patio off the living room & main floor bedrooms. Main level floors are stained concrete with radiant heat. Countertops are 3 in thick concrete slabs, stained black. Lighting, ceiling fans and plumbing fixtures are all sleek and modern.
