This fabulous 1950's classic Mid Century Tybee cottage was completely renovated and restored using all 'greenovation' . The project was finished in 2009 and the guiding principles were 'reduce, reuse and recycle concept while updating the cottage. The home was originally constructed as an all electric 'Gold Medallion' home in the 1950's and owned by the same family for 34 years prior to the new owners.
The cottage has many classic 1950's features but one of the interesting features is the Mamie Eisenhower pink tile in the hall bath. This was a favorite of the ladies in the 1950's and the reason there are so many pink bathrooms and kitchens in homes constructed during that time. The new bath has a large shower with glass tile blocks and a skylight.
Our cottage is a true peaceful retreat. She faces the east and the sun rises to greet visitors while they have their coffee on the front screened porch. Fruit and nut trees surround the home, a wonderful gift from the previous owner who loved to garden and planted all of the now productive trees. The back screened porch is very spacious and has its own mini frig and a charcoal grill just outside the door for grilling the 'catch of the day'. There is also an outside solar shower for guests.
A short 5 minute stroll is the main beach, downtown Tybee, the back river fishing pier and several restaurants. Many people park their vehicles and either walk or bicycle while on the island.
Tybee Island has been recently voted in 2009 by Health Magazine 'the healthiest beach in the US' and featured in Southern Living, Coastal Living and Savannah magazines, Tybee Island is still somewhat of an undiscovered paradise that visitors crave to return and many visit to never leave.

All our homes feature a starter supply of Mermaid Morning Bliss coffee which supports the sea turtle projects. This coffee is 100% organic Columbian craft-brewed coffee; again, created just for us!

This is the 3rd year my daughters and I have stayed on Tybee and we are already looking forward to the 4th! We always have a fabulous time at the beach. We feel very much at home in the cottage. This year we discovered AJ's around the corner and could not be happier! Breakfast Club is also a fave!! The cannon firing at Old Fort Jackson is awesome and they still have that adorable soldier!! We stayed four nights during a windy, cold snap on Tybee but still had a great time at Memories with our teens, walking the lovely beach, re-watching the first season of Downton Abbey and shopping/eating in Savannah. My husband and I stayed at Memories at the Beach for five days with four teenage boys. One of the best things about the property is that there are two living areas, so the teens could be in their own area in the evenings. The location was great -- close to the beach, close to restaurants and shops. My little chihuahua loved it too, and it was wonderful to be able to take her with us. We felt very welcomed by the fans running and airconditiong set to a comfortable temperature.The cottage had plenty of space for my family to find their own space and feel at home. Memories at the Beach was the perfect cottage for us! Comfortable beds, lots of light, beautiful tile floors, and best of all, the most-used room, the screened-in front porch! 2 blocks from the bike rental shop, The Breakfast Club, a few more to A.J.'s Dockside and the fishing pier where the sunsets take your breath away-everything was close. My only disappointment was not seeing the 7th St. turtle's nest hatch (I went every night!). As a former Savannah resident, I'd never been a tourist on Tybee-it was a blast. It was great walking into our rental house and immediately feeling at ease. The place was perfect. We as a family decided to visit Tybee Island for Thanksgiving so we could all get a break from the hustle and bustle in life. We enjoyed every moment in Memories at the Beach. Our family had a wonderful time staying at Memories at the Beach. The cottage was clean and had everything we needed to feel right at home. It is hard to say what we loved best. The two screened in porched that gave the five adults and two children lots of places to relax were wonderful. The two living areas allowed the grown ups to have space and the kids a great place to play too. The location of the house is perfect. Far enough from the main road to be quiet but close enough to walk to dinner or breakfast and of course the beach! My husband and I enjoyed watching the sun rise in the morning and then the entire family walked to watch the sun set over the river. We did not have to drive for anything we wanted or needed unless we wanted to do so.Often when we stay away from home we find the beds uncomfortable but not at Memories. I slept like a baby every night. Our family loves this cottage and we are now planning for us to have a yearly trip back every October. Our family all agrees.. this is the place for our family trip to Tybee Island and we will not be able to wait until October to go again. My sister in law and her 2 daughters joined me and my two daughters for a fabulous girls get away! Mermaid cottage services were wonderful! The "Memories of the Beach" cottage is so very nice. The decor so beachy, all the comforts of home; comfy beds, great kitchen with all the gadgets, awesome porches...and a good location. We were able to walk to several restaurants and the beach! Memories of the Beach is about half way between the beach and the marsh. The weather was quite warm the first week of October. We walked to the beach each morning before dawn and made photographs of the sunrise, the beach, and sea birds. Several afternoons we walked to the marsh and photographed butterflies in gardens along the streets. We had meals on the screened back porch. The kitchen was very convenient and all equipment worked well. The Pirate Fest Parade on Saturday afternoon was a lot of fun. We certainly hope to come again!Did you find this review helpful? About the owner: We fell in love with Tybee Island over 10 years ago and it continued to draw us nearer each time we visited. Always being partial to the eastern beaches we enjoyed the quaint, unspoiled features of Tybee and decided that a vacation rental might be something we would enjoy. A lot of work and expense later we now have the most wonderful cottage that we can share with visitors and friends and family. We have gone to the extreme to make it comfortable and fun. One of the best compliments we have received is how peaceful it is. Memories are precious and we have so many wonderful memories of trips to the beach. We now can provide a place where other people can create their own special memories. Thus we have named our cottage 'Memories at the Beach'. We promise you will love it!

We purchased this home in Tybee Island, Georgia after visiting the area over 7 to 8 years and staying in vacation cottages on the island. We loved the casual lifestyle, the friendly residents and the concern that they have for preserving the island. It is so convenient to Savannah, Georgia and its wonderful history. Tybee Island is 'Paradise Found!'
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The 1950's cottage has been completely 'greenovated'. All improvements were made as environmentally friendly as possible. The home is quiet as it was insulated with spray soy insulation. This also makes is warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It has easy access with just one step to the inside of the porches and one step to inside the cottage. The entire home was painted with NO VOC paints where possible. Light fills the home from the sky lights and the new shower has a skylight and glass blocks. The new porches provide lots of seating areas to visit after a day at the beach or a tour around Savannah. There are 3 new queen size beds plus a twin bed in one bedroom. A roll-away is available upon request. There is a dining room with seating for 8. New washer and dryer are in the utility hall. The floor plan flows and makes the entire home useable and comfortable. Coffee service is provided and includes a sample of Savannah Bee honey. This is truly a wonderful retreat.
