Don't settle for a teenie tiny, small, outdated 1 or 2 BR in an old 70's complex.
The kitchen has all high end new copper bottom cookware, wine chiller, Calphalon & Cuisinart for your gourmet meal preparation, it overlooks the DR & LR and continues to the spacious screened in porch. It is an open great room allowing you to socialize and enjoy your company.

We enjoyed an excellent experience at the Barnes Plantation condo. All the equipment and supplies were first rate. The rooms were tastefully decorated and very clean. The large screen entertainment system functioned perfectly. The computer printer was a handy plus for printing out our airline boarding passes. It was a great choice for our home way from home for the weeks stay. We will surely stay again when next we visit St. Simons!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+.

My family spent 4 nights in Barbara's condo in Barnes Plantation. From the first (very prompt) response to the welcome letter and the quality and cleanliness of the accommodation I can't fault our experience. The condo itself is a good size with effectively two master suites at either side of the main living space. The fixtures and cabinetry, etc that came with the building are of a fairly bog-standard quality. This is contrasted with the high quality furnishing and decor provided by the owner. The new bed was large and the mattress super-comfy. Since getting home I've checked out the brand with thoughts of buying one for myself! The kitchen was well stocked with coffee maker, toaster and all you need to prepare meals. Nothing has been missed here. If I could find anything to criticize (I'm struggling here...) it may be the instructions for the departure process were a bit lengthy - a bullet pointed check list may be better, plus I never did get the hang of the temperature controls or the TV set up. It is obvious Barbara takes pride in her property and providing a quality experience for her renters. She deserves the great ratings and I have no hesitation in recommending this property.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

About the owner: I dabble in art and loved my photography career. I have worked art shows and also critique. My husband is a sales consultant to the telephone industry. We have 4 kids & 2 grandkids. What drew us to SSI was our first visit to Jekyll in 1998. We watched the Sidney Lainer Bridge being built an engineering marvel) and laugh at the times we waited for the old draw bridge to open. My husband said that's how its done... SLOW. We saw some changes but love the building code (no high-rises). There have been many improvements to SSI, one of the best being, NEPTUNE PARK in the village. A well thought out master plan. We watched it being built in Feb 2009. A NEW Water Wonderland for all ages. It features 3 connecting pools with a kids water park, playground, mini-golf and water aerobics. What a view overlooking the Atlantic Ocean & Jekyll Island! Please be assured your stay at our place is well worth the modest cost. I am only a email/phone call away to answer ANY questions you have.
Why the Owner Chose Barnes Plantation:
We wanted a place we were able to drive or fly to easily. 45 mins. north of Jacksonville Airport (JAX) 20 mins to Glynco airport,(BQK) 1hour south of Savannah airport (SAV) . We live on Long Island enjoy the Long Island Sound and Atlantic. SSI is all we were looking for on the coast, a high education and low crime rate.
I have met people from all over the world who retire and bring their skills from art to theater to gardening. Their privacy is highly respected.
True Southern Hospitality and the wonderful laid back experience will be a delight to you and your family.

For a historic city: SAVANNAH is 1 hr north.
For the ROMANTIC: Jekyll Island is 15 mins away. Book the horse & buggy ride
