An Unfortunate Experience

Sadly, I cannot echo the happy experiences others have enjoyed in this particular condo. My husband and I booked it for a week starting Friday, July 1, 2011. Upon arrival, we found the bathtub full of sheded termite wings and termites on the bathroom floor. The owners' maid service came and cleaned it all up. However, on the morning of Fourth of July, we awoke to find the same conditions were again present in the bathroom. We felt very uncomfortable in this situation. Although it cost us an airline penalty to change our tickets, we checked out and got on the first plane home that had seats available which was July 5. We emailed the problems to the owner as well as facts that the front door was very difficult to open and the sliding glass door to deck from bedroom would not open at all. In his response email, he stated that the condition I described is "consistent with annual termite swarm season and their entry/exit point from the vent above the tub. This is Hawaii and with a semi-annual bug treatment contract termites still survive in the soil and emerge with wings to fly into anywhere they can find a new home." In his email, the owner seemed surprised that we changed flights rather than moving elsewhere on Maui. It was our opinion that getting a flight home would be quicker and easier than trying to locate an affordable hotel with vacancies on this very popular island on Fourth of July!!

Owner response: Unfortunately, we had termite damage in the door frame of the bathroom, Hawaii is an agracultural environment and has termites. We are in a concrete building and are safe from most termite damage. The termite season is in the early spring. We have had the door frame replaced and repainted and had our termite annual inspection and treatment to guard against this kind of problem. The front door does not stick, never has and never will. This is a steel door and immune to humidity problems that can cause sticking. We have strong trade winds and, if the sliding glass doors are open the front door can slam and pose threat of injury. We have installed an automatic hydraulic door closer which can be heavy to pull open during the winds. This was done as per our association house rules as a safety precaution. Aloha, Mike

Mike and Alicia! Thanks for the lovely condo. We had a very comfortable stay. When we arrived everything was in place. The location is really great, and we enjoyed spending time at the accessible beach behind the complex. The kitchen was very well equipped, though we did not use much as there were plenty of affordable resturants in the area with a veriety of choices to choose from. Thanks again. Priya and Gaurav.

Thank you! My stay in March 2011 was wonderful. Your Maui condo is beautiful, comfortable and felt like home (very clean). I enjoyed every beautiful sunset and early morning sunrise, while enjoying a wonderful cup of Kona coffee on your lanai. The sound of the waves in the quiet of night was soothing, as was the early morning smell of the ocean breeze. It felt like being back home again. Some of my personal favorites: Five Palms Beach Grill on Kihei Rd.; drive to Lahaina Town is beautiful - a great place to spend the day; drive to Hana Bay is interesting - lots of stops along the way - gives a real feel of the island. Mama's Fish House is on the way to Hana Bay - a must! I would most certainly recommend your Maui home to anyone I know. When I return - and I will - I would love to have the opportunity to stay at your lovely condo again. MAHALO !

Mike, The condo was great! We completely enjoyed it. Since it was just my wife and I, we did not use any of the fold out beds, but were impressed by them being there - it is in our mind for future trips with our kids. We could not think of a single item as far as furnishings that we were missing - the little extra stuff, such as the cooler and folding chairs for trips to the beach was wonderful! Mike and Alicia, We are doing our final packing and just wanted to let you know what a wonderful time we have had. This three weeks in your condo has just furthered our resolve to make Kihei our second home in a couple of years when we retire. We will miss the beautiful views from your lanai. Thankyou so much for the great stay in your unit #206 at village by the sea. We have stayed at village by the sea many times, but this was by far the prettiest and most well stocked condo we have been in. there was an abundance of towels, beach towels, bedding, etc. The kitchen had everything possible that could be needed to make a great meal. The decor was was fantastic!!! thanks again we will be back.

This was our first experience renting a condo on vacation, and it was a terrific experience. All arrangements went smoothly and the condo was beautiful and comfortable. It truly was a "home away from home" and very well equiped. I love to cook and the kitchen was great with everything I needed and the new bed was like sleeping on the clouds at the summit of Haleakala. There were even beach towels, mats, cooler, water jug and a beach umbrella. All you need to stay here is your bathing suit and some suncreen. Having the internet at your fingertips is a tremendous convenience. Kihei is a great community with lots of great restaurants, beaches and shops without the parking hassles of Lahaina. But it's a quick drive to most parts of the island, so sight-seeing was not a chore. We are already planning our next trip may pick our travel time based on its availability. If you enjoy comfortable surroundings with the beauty of the islands in the decor, this is the place for you.

We had a great time in 206. Good view of the mountain and the bay. Easy access to the beach - although we didn't swim at that one. It is easy to drive to near by bigger beaches. The condo had many different spices for cooking, beach chairs and other beach equipment. The grounds were lovely and the bbq area was really useful. We would definatly come again. Thanks so much!

The condo worked out great for us and our 20-year old daughter. Thanks for providing good body boards and the beach towels and chairs. The ocean view was better than we expected and enjoyed breakfast on the balcony. The hot tub and access to gas grills is a nice resort amenity. The condo was equipped with everything we needed. Just stayed 23 nights in this condo on my 13th windsurfing trip to Maui. This condo is such good value. The decore has been carefully selected and is so appropriate for Maui. Loved watching the sunset over the ocean each evening after a great day's sailing. I'll definitely stay here again next year.

I just like to say that your condo was great. I loved the furniture and amenities, they made me feel comfortable and so NOT like a museum. I spent most of my time taking surfing lessons and then going to all the surfing beaches to catch the South Swell. One suggestion though, I need to e-mail family and friends alot, I think providing DSL would be something that quests could use instead of dialup which I needed to plan for ahead of time. I had the opportunity to stay at the Kahaule Makai in this unit--it was a blast. The location is perfect, Kihei is a great low-key town with plenty to do; Surfing, snorkeling, SCUBA in nearby Makena. There is great golf and restaurants within 3 miles. The grounds of the condo are what make the stay--a great pool, HOT tub and solid barbeques to cook fresh vegetable fajitas from the nearby farmers market. wow.

We spent our 17th wedding annivarsary in your lovely condo. The view from the lanai was great, and many a Mai Tai was enjoyed there.
