CAYO LOCO IS LOCATED RIGHT ON A PINK SAND BEACH!!
CAYO LOCO, though newly built for this it's first season, captures the "old" Bahamian beach house feel looking over the surf to maximize the views and ocean breezes. Step onto your gorgeous, private, crescent shaped Atlantic Ocean pink sand beach and stroll in either direction for miles. You may spend your entire visit here and never see another person on your beach. Our beach has indescribably clear turquoise water with a flat pink sand beach. It is a perfect swimming beach!!
CAYO LOCO means "crazy beautiful cay". It is very private and the only sounds you will hear are the surf crashing around you. Today, we swam with two beautiful dolphins for half an hour on our beach!! It was so special and awe-inspiring!! They knew we were a little afraid so they kept swimming away and coming back.....we told them to meet us back there tomorrow 'same time - same place'!! We went back with Jim and Jeanette, our first visitors in the new house, and we all swam with the dolphins....they frolicked with us and we had a snorkel and could hear them talking to each other.....they put on a 'show' for us flipping, twirling and spinning around together!! Very special!!
CAYO LOCO is a very comfortable, casually elegant beach house with all the amenities necessary to make living on the beach a pleasure. Once you arrive, you may never want to leave but you can wander down the beach a few minutes to a lovely new beach club with a fabulous bistro, infinity pool with a swim-up bar, lounging beds and welcoming staff.
Spear fish on your reefs and bring back your lobster or grouper dinner. You've earned a nap in the hammock lulling between the palm trees but try to stay awake for star gazing on the deck when the sun goes down. Become "zimzala" - free-spirited and find peace with sand between your toes!
On your beach right off shore, you can fish, snorkel, walk for miles, kayak, beach comb, go shelling, play bocce ball, body surf, paddle board or just relax in the sun! CAYO LOCO is my private custom designed/built residence and is rented on a very limited basis. CAYO LOCO is located on a secluded, romantic sandy beach road.
After a wonderful day at the beach, return to CAYO LOCO and refresh in your beautiful large glass block tiled shower with ocean view and nap on your ocean view king size bed with 100% cotton designer sheets.
Within a short walk on the beach, you have a wonderful resort for delicious dining. Within a short drive, there are several excellent restaurants, live music and dancing.

- Today, we swam with two large dolphins on our beach for half an hour and it was the most beautiful experience yet!! Eleuthera offers every imaginable water related activity from deep sea fishing in central Eleuthera to fabulous diving off Cape Eleuthera in the south to horseback riding on the beach and kiteboarding on Harbour Island in the north. At Cayo Loco you can even try the latest sporting rage - paddle boarding - very easy to learn offering an excellent relaxing core workout!!

Why the Owner Chose Governor's Harbour
When the astronauts look down to Earth from space, the crystal clear, turquoise waters of the Bahamas can be clearly seen as nowhere else on Earth. Hut Point Bay on the Atlantic side of Governor's Harbour is a central location making it easy to get anywhere on the island to explore. Our beach is the most beautiful beach on Eleuthera where you can walk everyday and not see a single soul. Eleutherans are a very warm, helpful and welcoming people and a treasure to get to know. The Bahamas were voted one of the "happiest" countries in the world. Fresh seafood abounds with tropical fruits as well. Eleuthera is an adventure without getting too far from the norm.
The Unique Benefits at this House
Waking up to the sunrise after sleeping to the sounds of the surf is so rejuvenating. Walking the beach shelling then swimming or just floating in the crystal clear turquoise water of Eleuthera is so special. Catching your dinner fresh from the Atlantic Ocean is splendid. Lazing in the hammock with a great read gazing over the crashing waves is very relaxing. Cayo Loco was designed to support an eco-chic lifestyle. Air conditioning is rarely needed as the ocean breezes keep you comfortable. Rain water is your water source leaving your skin and hair silky to the touch. There are abundant hand towels and cloth napkins alleviating the need for paper products. All appliances and fixtures are energy efficient and low water consumption. All glass is recycled. Cayo Loco is my custom designed/built private residence and is rented out on a very limited basis.

8:15 every night except Thursdays with a wonderful fast food menu that has the best burgers and conch salad!! The balcony is worth the extra 50 cents!! Just like 'back in the day'!!

World famous surf spot with an awesome left point break!! 1 foot to 20 foot waves that are still surfable!! Only for strong swimmers. There is a small pond like area to the left as you go down to the beach for taking a dip.
When Surfer's Beach is not what you're looking for, we have a great surf spot closer to Cayo Loco!! You'll probably be the only surfer there!! Shallow reef break with small sandy beach cove.
Dark formations, stalagmites, bats, stalactites. Wear good shoes. Bring multiple flashlights. A rope on the ground will help you follow your way to investigating the pools!! North of Rainbow Inn.
Wonderful family owned restaurant/bar with live music and excellent food. The vegetables are from their organic garden on the premises and Zev's special 'catch of the day'. Weekly events. Call to find out what's happening at the Inn. On Queen's Highway just north of James Cistern. Closed Sundays.
Completely restored to it's original splendor, the Haynes Library offers $3 per hour internet, computers, printing, books and magazines in a beautiful location on Cupid's Cay in Town.
Sports bar, pool table, and ping pong with a full array of imported specialty cigars! Rocks after the Fish Fry on Friday evenings on Cupid's Cay, Governor's Harbour.

We stayed at Cayo Loco at the beginning of December and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation in paradise. The VRBO webpage doesn't do it any justice. Its truly everything we were looking for and more. The owners are the nicest people and so accommodating. They also stay out of your way if that's what you are looking for. The beach was uninhabited while we were there and we had it all to ourselves. The resort down the beach has the best food and was also never busy. The house was perfect and had everything you would want. Be prepared for a bit of wind on the Atlantic side if you are there in December.Make sure you have a car rented if you want to go into town to get supplies. We rented bikes for a couple of days which was nice but the roads arent great and are a bit dangerous on a bike. I hope we can come back soon. :)

We stayed at Maureen and Alan's beach house named Cayo Loco for twelve days and it was amazing. After seeing the photos on their website and reading the positive reviews we were convinced that this vacation rental would be a great place to stay at Eleuthera. We arrived a week after Hurricane Irene hit the island. Fortunately there wasn't a lot of damage at the property. The beach house is newly built, very clean and contains everything you need to have a relaxed stay (dishwasher, beach chairs, snorkel gear, books, dvds etc etc). Maureen and Alan are very helpfull, kind and positive. Their house is located close to the rental house but you feel very private. The view is great, we spent most of our time sitting on the porch looking at the waves and the beautiful sky. Unfortunately we did not get to meet the dolphins, so hopefully we will be able to go back soon. We both have traveled a lot but this was the best vacation ever! Pieter & Vivian

My husband and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary in this perfect setting. The house was immaculate and had everything that one would need in the kitchen, though we did not use anything much but the refrigerator and bottle opener! The bed was extremely comfortable, plenty of closet space and the deck was amazing. Steps to the beach with your own very cute palapa and colorful beach chairs. A true beach fantasy!

Just returned from our honeymoon here -- it was perfect. This cottage is simple and modern, with lots of light, a constant and enjoyable sea breeze and the view from the deck is unbeatable. The beach is gorgeous and rarely has people on it, and a few properties down you'll find a great hotel restaurant and infinity pool w/ hot tub. Also, the location is perfect -- right in the middle of the island, so day trips to various destinations are never too distant (go see lighthouse beach...wow!); it's close to a supermarket, too. The property owners -- Maureen & Alan -- gave us all the privacy we needed but were there whenever we had questions about the cottage and the island. They even provided a handy book they created w/ restaurant/beach advice, maps, etc., which we brought everywhere. It's worth noting that they are very nice, down-to-earth people too (they even had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the fridge). I recommend this spot without hesitation!

I will say that as amazing as the pictures of this place are, they do not even come close to the beauty of this house. We had an amazing time staying here and the pink sand beach in the front yard was one of the most stunning! I have rented from places that may stretch the truth or pictures but this was a truly special experience and far exceed our expectations. We could not have asked for more. So thank you again for your incredible hospitality and really delivering a wow with this very special place. You guys have ruined us as we don't know that any vacation could ever live up to this one! We cannot wait to come back and visit in the coming months.... I feel like as many great things as we saw that there is still so much to see and do!

My husband and I just returned from this charming cottage on a beautiful beach and if you want to really escape the chaos of everyday life this is a lovely cottage. The owners were beyond helpful from the initial inquiry through our departure.(which was quite early)...providing helpful tips all along the way. Wonderful people......very peaceful retreat....and the dolphins just off the the beach the day before we left....breathtaking...

We love it here!! This lovely place has picture perfect views and feels very private. Owners Alan & Maureen were so kind and helpful, we felt like they were our best friends throughout the planning and our stay. We found this area to be an overall friendly and safe place and great for walking miles in either direction on the beach or on the sandy bank road! Amazing snorkeling! We saw dolphins, a small shark, turtles, rays, lobsters, and a huge variety of colorful fish. The house is new, lovely, and comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing beach bumming vacation such as great tasting R/O drinking water, a dishwasher, maps, towels, snorkel gear, TV/DVD/docking station, outdoor shower, etc. This is a gem of a place, we highly suggest it!

It's true....location, location, location. This perfect house right on a secluded strech of beach is a great location. It's centrally located between great restaurants, stunning beaches and a lovely little town. Maureen provided "local knowledge" about restaurants, stores and beaches that look like they're photo-shopped! In our get-away week, we went to 6 different beaches, none further than 10 miles away, and were usually the only people on the beach. We ate at great restaurants, used the local library, and enjoyed Fish Fry on Friday night. It just doesn't get better than Cayo Loco.
