We absolutely loved our stay at Cayo Loco.What's not to like; a gorgous almost private beach, an immaculate, comfortable, well furnished sea side cottage, and unbelievable views of the ocean.Maureen and Allen are a delight and were very attentive to our requests.As a plus, they arranged a visit from Jeremy and Anna, local Bahamians, to come and prepare a Bahaman dinner for us. We are still talking about the baked lobster. What a treat.We have traveled extensively in the Bahamas and without a doubt this was the most relaxing beautiful location we have visited. It truly is a special place!

My wife and I spent 10 days at Cayo Loco and everything was fantastic. Maureen and Allan do a wonderful job of maintaining the property. This is the perfect place to relax and forget about everything. We have stayed at 3 different homes on Eleuthera and Cayo Loco is by far the best yet. The beach is absolutely unbelievable. We walked for miles and miles and saw very few people. The snorkeling is great right in front of the house. Finally on the 2nd to last day we were able to get close to a couple of dolphins. Truly a great experience. Thanks again Maureen and Allan.

A great place to vacation

My wife and I just returned from a six day stay at Cayo Loco and we highly recommend the beach house for any couple traveling to Eleuthera. The bedroom is large, with lots of storage space, and a very comfortable king-sized bed. The bathroom is also large, the kitchen is perfect and fully equipped and the sitting area is comfortable. We used the wireless internet connection a lot and it always worked. The porch overlooks the beach and is a great place to have breakfast and relax with a glass of wine. The beach is outstanding and the breezes keep the house cool; we did not need the air conditioner while we were there and I am a stickler for sleeping with cool temperatures. I also like to fish and I caught fish non-stop at the beach by walking past the Bistro and just beyond the last set of stairs coming down to the beach. If you cast between the two reefs located there, using squid, you will get a lot of action. For dining I would recommend Tippy's, the Beach House, and the Rainbow Inn. Alan and Maureen were great to work with and Elliott is a good source for a rental car. All in all, a great place to vacation.

Amazing Vacation at Cayo Loco

My husband and I spent 4 wonderful nights at Cayo Loco in January. This house is perfectly located in the center of Eleuthera giving you the ability to easily travel North or South for the day. The beach in front of the house is one of the most beautiful we have ever seen and the house itself is perfectly maintained with all of the amenities you could ever need. Maureen and Alan are wonderful hosts providing you with the privacy you need but always available with any questions you may have. The guide book they provide is awesome and we took it everywhere we went. Their restaurant and beach suggestions were fantastic. Our two favorite restaurants were Rainbow Inn and Front Porch. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our vacation in this wonderful home and truly beautiful island. We can not wait to go back!

We spent the 4 day MLK weekend at Cayo Loco and loved every minute of it. The beautiful beach, the ocean views, and the accommodations were even better than the photographs. Centrally located in Governor’s Harbour; Cayo Loco was convenient to all of the great restaurants, sites, and beaches that Eleuthera has to offer, while at the same time providing us with beautiful and private Atlantic Ocean seclusion right at our doorstep. Cayo Loco had all the amenities from home (directv, music docking station, wifi, grill, oven, full sized refrigerator, etc), making it great to at once feel “away from it all,” while still having access to all of the world’s modern amenities if we needed/wanted them. The homeowners were available at a moment’s notice to answer questions or help out with any difficulties we had during our stay, while also being respectful of our privacy. We toted their homemade guide to the island with us whenever we left the house, and the many tips and recommendations it provided were all spot on - a real "insider's" guide of what to see and do! While traveling throughout the Island we couldn’t find a single place that seemed to be as well situated on the beach, centrally located and modern as Cayo Loco. We can’t wait to return and would recommend Cayo Loco to anyone looking for a great beachfront getaway in Eleuthera.

Three fantastic weeks on this lovely island with genuine unspoilt atmosphere! 22-27 C (72-80 F) in the air 24 C (75 F) in the water. Never hot and sticky, always a refreshing breeze. Swimming, snorkeling and walking on the beach. Having great meals in various places with very laid-back and friendly attitude (liked Tipi’s and Beach House best). Saw Yellow Headed Heron and Osprey on the beach! Also Hummingbirds in the area. For more nature experience we recommend a visit to Levys Nature reserve. If it is too windy on the Atlantic side, there is always the possibility to explore the Caribbean side, although we found our beach being the best whatever the weather. If you want to visit something more fancy take a day-trip to Harbour Island in the north. The house was excellent, very modern and with all facilities we needed. Our lovely hosts were always ready to help whilst respecting our privacy. So, in summary, fantastic place to go, if you are looking for great beach life with privacy away from resort-like environment. Perfect Getaway!

My husband and I stayed at Cayo Loco for the week of Thanksgiving, and it truly was the perfect getaway! This house is centrally located, so we explored the island a couple of days, but we realized that our favorite beach was the beach right in front of the cottage. The cottage had everything we needed, and if we needed anything including directions somewhere, Maureen and Alan were close by and happy to help. We loved being able to walk down to Sky Beach for lunch or dinner - the food was delicious! Now that we are back to work in the city, we both are wishing we were back hanging out on the porch looking out over the beautiful ocean.

Cayo Loco was amazing!! It was exactly the relaxing vacation that my husband and I needed after a stressful year. Let me start by saying that we arrived on Pineapple Air and they were on time and we had no issues with the airline at all. As soon as we arrived it was too early to check in so we bought our groceries at Burrows but I would suggest that you drive a little further to the big grocery store in Rock Sound which has alot more choices and their prices are much better. Maureen and Alan make the whole process so easy for you, we checked in to the wonderful one bedroom house that has everything you would need for a long stay, we walked on the beach everyday and it was amazing. The best restaurants were Tippys and the Sky Beach Club, they have a wonderful pool at the Sky Beach House which they let you use, they also served great drinks!! Monique Smith is a massage therapist, she came right to Coyo Loco and I got a wonderful massage right on the deck while listening to the ocean, Monique was so professional and so nice, she charges 75 for 1 hour and its worth way more than that so call her!! Our only suggestion would be a free standing hammock on the deck instead of the big chair!! See you next year!!!

A wonderful second honeymoon experience

We just got back from a “no-kids” vacation to Eleuthera, a glorified sand bar in the Bahamas about 110 miles long with only about 10,000 inhabitants scattered end to end. It was wonderful and perfect for our purposes of a quiet, romantic vacation. The house at cayo loco was great and looked exactly as in the pictures. We had a breathtaking ocean view, a half-mile long beach virtually to ourselves, and impossibly clear blue water just like you see on TV. A half a dozen coral reefs, some teeming with tropical fish, were right outside our front door. The owners of the house take very good care of it, keep it very clean and provide lots of extras (snorkeling gear, a BBQ grill and a guide to Eleuthera - better than the guide books you can buy!). The owners greeted us warmly with some sparkling wine and even recommended local events for us to check out. We bought fresh grouper right off the docks, and had local lobster several nights in a row. There are many restaurants and bars nearby - one in walking distance on the beach. We saw local music called “Rake and Scrape” because the main rhythmic instrument is a rusty carpenter’s saw that’s bent and scraped with a nail or butter knife; the end result is upbeat 3-chord Caribbean pop with underlying chugging, runaway-train sound that sounds like a close relative of Cajun music. We can highly recommend our bungalow, as long as you don’t bring kids.

AAAAHHHHMAZING!!!

My husband and I wanted somewhere very special to celebrate our 25th anniversary and boy, did Cayo Loco deliver!!! EVERYTHING about our stay was wonderful. Maureen was so kind in helping me figure out making the most of our vacation. When she realized our Sunday arrival meant that most grocery stores would be closed when we got there, she arranged for someone to come in and cook dinner for us! She even had a bottle of champagne in the fridge as a welcome gift! The cottage was beautiful, perfectly located, immaculate, private, and felt like home the minute we stepped in the door. Eleuthera is beautiful beyond words but we couldn't find anywhere on the island that was lovelier than Cayo Loco. "Our" soft pink sand beach always had a wonderful breeze and sleeping to the sound of the crashing waves was like heaven on earth. The location was wonderful for being able to enjoy the fabulous nearby restaurants, or cook our own meal and enjoy it on the deck with a gorgeous view. Alan and Maureen were friendly and helpful with any information we needed to make our way on the island, but totally respectful of our privacy. The only downside to Cayo Loco was having to leave. Thank you, Thank you Thank you Alan and Maureen. We cannot wait to return!

We stayed at Cayo Loco at the beginning of December and would recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing vacation in paradise. The VRBO webpage doesn't do it any justice. Its truly everything we were looking for and more. The owners are the nicest people and so accommodating. They also stay out of your way if that's what you are looking for. The beach was uninhabited while we were there and we had it all to ourselves. The resort down the beach has the best food and was also never busy. The house was perfect and had everything you would want. Be prepared for a bit of wind on the Atlantic side if you are there in December.Make sure you have a car rented if you want to go into town to get supplies. We rented bikes for a couple of days which was nice but the roads arent great and are a bit dangerous on a bike. I hope we can come back soon. :)

My husband and I celebrated our 8 year anniversary in this perfect setting. The house was immaculate and had everything that one would need in the kitchen, though we did not use anything much but the refrigerator and bottle opener! The bed was extremely comfortable, plenty of closet space and the deck was amazing. Steps to the beach with your own very cute palapa and colorful beach chairs. A true beach fantasy!

Walking on a dream

We stayed at Maureen and Alan's beach house named Cayo Loco for twelve days and it was amazing. After seeing the photos on their website and reading the positive reviews we were convinced that this vacation rental would be a great place to stay at Eleuthera. We arrived a week after Hurricane Irene hit the island. Fortunately there wasn't a lot of damage at the property. The beach house is newly built, very clean and contains everything you need to have a relaxed stay (dishwasher, beach chairs, snorkel gear, books, dvds etc etc). Maureen and Alan are very helpfull, kind and positive. Their house is located close to the rental house but you feel very private. The view is great, we spent most of our time sitting on the porch looking at the waves and the beautiful sky. Unfortunately we did not get to meet the dolphins, so hopefully we will be able to go back soon. We both have traveled a lot but this was the best vacation ever! Pieter & Vivian

Simple, modern, bright, airy & what a view!

Just returned from our honeymoon here -- it was perfect. This cottage is simple and modern, with lots of light, a constant and enjoyable sea breeze and the view from the deck is unbeatable. The beach is gorgeous and rarely has people on it, and a few properties down you'll find a great hotel restaurant and infinity pool w/ hot tub. Also, the location is perfect -- right in the middle of the island, so day trips to various destinations are never too distant (go see lighthouse beach...wow!); it's close to a supermarket, too. The property owners -- Maureen & Alan -- gave us all the privacy we needed but were there whenever we had questions about the cottage and the island. They even provided a handy book they created w/ restaurant/beach advice, maps, etc., which we brought everywhere. It's worth noting that they are very nice, down-to-earth people too (they even had a bottle of champagne waiting for us in the fridge). I recommend this spot without hesitation!

My husband and I just returned from this charming cottage on a beautiful beach and if you want to really escape the chaos of everyday life this is a lovely cottage. The owners were beyond helpful from the initial inquiry through our departure.(which was quite early)...providing helpful tips all along the way. Wonderful people......very peaceful retreat....and the dolphins just off the the beach the day before we left....breathtaking...

A very special place to vacation...

I will say that as amazing as the pictures of this place are, they do not even come close to the beauty of this house. We had an amazing time staying here and the pink sand beach in the front yard was one of the most stunning! I have rented from places that may stretch the truth or pictures but this was a truly special experience and far exceed our expectations. We could not have asked for more. So thank you again for your incredible hospitality and really delivering a wow with this very special place. You guys have ruined us as we don't know that any vacation could ever live up to this one! We cannot wait to come back and visit in the coming months.... I feel like as many great things as we saw that there is still so much to see and do!

Lovely place with an amazing view in a naturally beautiful area!

We love it here!! This lovely place has picture perfect views and feels very private. Owners Alan & Maureen were so kind and helpful, we felt like they were our best friends throughout the planning and our stay. We found this area to be an overall friendly and safe place and great for walking miles in either direction on the beach or on the sandy bank road! Amazing snorkeling! We saw dolphins, a small shark, turtles, rays, lobsters, and a huge variety of colorful fish. The house is new, lovely, and comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing beach bumming vacation such as great tasting R/O drinking water, a dishwasher, maps, towels, snorkel gear, TV/DVD/docking station, outdoor shower, etc. This is a gem of a place, we highly suggest it!

It's true....location, location, location. This perfect house right on a secluded strech of beach is a great location. It's centrally located between great restaurants, stunning beaches and a lovely little town. Maureen provided "local knowledge" about restaurants, stores and beaches that look like they're photo-shopped! In our get-away week, we went to 6 different beaches, none further than 10 miles away, and were usually the only people on the beach. We ate at great restaurants, used the local library, and enjoyed Fish Fry on Friday night. It just doesn't get better than Cayo Loco.

As a 20 year wedding anniversary celebration and a much-needed getaway from our hectic world, Cayo Loco was a destination that fulfilled all our wishes. Maureen and Alan are gracious hosts, meticulous to details, and the house was exactly as pictured; actually even better in real life. As for the beach experience there is really no photo that can do it justice--simply stunning, and truly our own while we were there. We loved cooking fresh catch purchased from the locals in the charming kitchen, or grilled up outside. We rented a 4 wheel drive jeep that allowed us to explore the vast island, and experience many of the wonderful restaurants, and explore Eleuthera's beaches. Maureen and Alan have thought of every detail to include at Cayo Loco; beach chairs, towels, outdoor shower, even a cell phone for our use; this encouraged us to leave ours at home which added to our experience of truly getting away from it all. We will be back to enjoy this wonderful place again, thank you for sharing your beautiful cottage on VRBO!

We have just returned from a fabulous vacation at Cayo Loco. The house is lovely and couldn't have been in a better location. It was heavenly to relax on the porch and overlook the sea, take long walks on the deserted beaches, and stargaze in the evening. The house was spotless and well equipped and Al and Maureen were wonderful and accommodating. We loved our time there and are already dreaming about returning!

The most wonderful private spot in the world. Perched high on a sand dune overlooking the most glorious clear blue ocean and pink sand beaches. This charming one bedroom cottage was cozy and comfortable with all the amenities you need. Including a fully equip kitchen with a dishwasher and a luxurious bathroom with a large shower plus there is a great outdoor shower. Stunning views from every window. We loved the front porch were we enjoyed drinking our morning coffee to eating our lunch after an ocean swim. At night the ocean waves, sea breeze and stars put on an impressive show. The hosts Alan and Maureen couldn't be more accommodating. They are a wealth of island information. We love this beach cottage and most definitely will be back next year.

Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.

We would recommend this perfect getaway location to any couple. The beach is ideal for long walks. We found the people on the island to be very hospitable. Alan & Maureen were extremely friendly & helpful. We toured the entire island during our week stay including Harbour Island to see the "pink sand" beach. Resturants are plentiful. Groceries are adequate for making your own meals, which we did frequently in the new kitchen. Having on demand hotwater is the best! We will be back-soon I hope.

My wife and I just returned from the best vacation of our lives! Cayo Loco far exceeded the online photos and our expectations! Maureen and Alan turned out a spotless home with everything as advertised. It is the first vacation rental where everything worked...down to the blender (gotta love those frozen Pina Coladas!). Maureen had an island reference notebook with absolutely everything you needed in the way of restaurants, local events and popular beaches. Cayo Loco as home or vacation rental on the beach is simply stunning! We have already recommended it to our friends in Northern Virginia.

Recommended for: Tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
