My family and I had an awesome stay in this house. Clean house that is well decorated with an additional chair (not pictured) in the living room. House had everything we needed for the stay and the pool was clutch. Every time we returned from where ever we had been we took a dip in the pool to cool off, a few afternoons just lounging by/in the pool . Location was good, some of us biked everywhere with the help of Eaton Bikes. Some walked up and down Duval. The two off street parking spaces were very helpful, as well. No complaints with the roosters, just part of Key West. They did wake us up a few mornings but we were able to go back to sleep with no problems, and they were just part of the atmosphere while we were hanging at the pool. We followed the house rules and had no issues with neighbors. Met the neighbors and got along with all of them. Had a couple of questions upon arrival and the in-town landlord was very helpful. We had no issues with the plumbing. Blue Heaven, around the corner, is a must for breakfast and Dante’s, bike or drive, is great for lunch or a casual dinner while hanging in their pool. Can’t wait to book our next trip to Key West and stay in this house.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The house is lovely. The pool is perfect. Yes, there are roosters and chickens galore, but you are in Bahama Village area of Key West! We all agreed they just became "background noise" after the first day. We all slept very well and enjoyed immensely the close proximity of the house to the action, yet far enough away for a little peace and quiet when needed. The owner is very accomodating. We had no problems with water issues as stated in some of the other reviews. Yes, it is close enough to the action that you don't need a car. La Creperie, Blue Heaven, Green Parrot Bar - all are so close, as is Duval Street. We are not a partying bunch, we were looking forward to family time and this house certainly worked well for us. Yes, there was a small problem with a grumpy neighbor about an extra car (we all flew into three different airports so had three rental cars). Once we found parking for the third car there were no more issues. All in all an extremely pleasant stay due to this home being our home base while in Key West!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with young children, tourists without a car.

House is beautiful, well appointed, clean...But, the waterfall at poolside was out of commission, very big disappointment,... also, the house has plumbing issues in the 3 bathrooms, ceiling water stains and dripping shower head, we were unable to use some of the features in the master shower because after one use it was dripping into the kitchen below,...and the many charming roosters started to crow in a competition at 4 am every morning and continued all day, the noise got easier as the week progressed, because it is Key West and we kinda liked it,...otherwise, very nice neighbors, nice street, great location, incredible high end kitchen, but watch your head on the hood over the stove! it can be painful!Owner response: We were very disappointed with this couple. There is no plumbing issue in the bath room, they flooded the master bathroom which caused significant damage to the ceiling below. In our master bath we have a gorgeous shower with multiple jets and shower heads. We have never had a problem with water getting outside the glass enclosure. We were there the day the guests left. When they left there was a 10 foot long, foot wide stain on the ceiling below the bath. They said water got through cracks in the glass shower enclosure. I had the original contractor and Monroe Glass that installed the glass enclosure on site that day to assess the situation. We could not induce any significant amount of water to get past the enclosure. Guests like these are why we may be reconsidering offering our place to guests.

My husband & I and another couple have rented many homes in Key West. Having said that , we are used to the Rooster population and the flavor that comes with that. We were surprised that not one reviewer mentioned the next door neighbor with several chicken coops, roosters, and 4 dogs that bark at the chiclens! We stay out late many nights on vacation and like to sleep in, that was impossible and I actually sleep in ear plugs (my hubby snores). The noise next door would get to a fever pitch about 6 AM and would go on all day. All four of us would tromp downstairs every morning all bleary eyed searching for coffee b/c we could not sleep. We could see this little farm also, as there is not a high fence on that side, and it is NOT pretty . We turned on the pool waterfall to try an drown out some noise, within 12 hours the neighbor , who is a very nice lady asked us to turn it off and leave it off, so we did. :( We have stayed in many homes that are stocked better than this one was considering how many people can actually stay there, what I mean by that is plates, pans, bowls, towels etc. On the happy side, the home is beautifully appointed and is very clean. The owner was efficient and very easy to deal with. Unfortunately we had to come home to rest, it was just way too noisy and I wish someone had made us aware of this beforehand.Recommended for: Tourists without a car.

Normally when going to beach communities, we try to find a place directly on the water. But, because my 75 year old father vacationed with us, we chose to be closer to the "action" so he could walk the area and see the sights as we lounged all day around the pool. This location is perfect for that (I would recommend walking Petronia Street which is nicely lit with businesses home at night as opposed to Olivia Street--a little dark and a little scary!). Duvall Street is an experience in itself...typically touristy, but also something you have to see! My daughter got a kick out of the "drag queens" trying to entice us into their show! We rented bikes to be able to go to the beach, but after 2 days we turned them in realizing that being around the pool was just as nice (if not nicer) than going to the beach. Fort Zachary Beach was the closest beach, but we had to pay $2.50 per person to get in. It was a little rocky. The beaches to the south were not nearly as clean, so the $2.50 was worth it. The house itself is immaculate! It was stocked with all of the condiments and spices, etc that you'd need. That's nice when you go to the store...not having to buy those extra things! The neighbors were wonderful and were very helpful in recommending things to do...however, we did notice that our fountain was not working! :)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

Bob & Family: Steven & I want to thank you for a wonderful stay in Key West. We could not have chosen a more ideal spot. Your house is wonderful, everything anyone would need for a perfect vacation. Spacious rooms confortable beds and a master bathroom to die for -- complete with a hug spa tub! And if that 's not enough -- the heated pool. Have to say we had many cocktails by the pool and a few meals as well. When we not enjoying the house, the walk to the "action" of Key West was a very short distance. Steve & I went for a run a few mornings and thankfully (cause I hate to run!!) the local scenery was distracting so a much better run than normal. We also had the benefit of the upcoming holiday so the houses were all decorated -- your neighbors are a hoot -- super decorations and very nice. We had a chance to chat with a few one evening as that was the night the decorations were being judged by the city...Not sure though if anyone on your street won -- but have to guess they had a good shot. Thank you again for sharing your home with us. We are hoping to be able to come back soon! Teri & Steve Sullivan, Tiverton, RI/St. Augustine, FL PS: Any visitors to your house definitely need to visit Blue Heaven (dinner/breakfast) & the Creperie place (breakfast/lunch) -- awesome food and right around the corner!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

In an attempt to leave a fair review, I'll start off by saying the house itself was very impressive. Every amenity was there including a beautiful kitchen with great appliances and nicely appointed bathrooms. There is also a pool out back with a water fountain and gas grill. My only complaint, albeit a big one, is the neighbors on both sides of the property. On one side, there is a house which has lots of chickens and roosters that are extremely loud in the mornings. Our solution to this problem was the relaxing sound of the waterfall which seemed to drown out the constant crowing of the birds. Which led to our next issue... On the other side, there is a woman who was unhappy with the sound of our pool waterfall (which was on when we arrived at the property) so she took it upon herself to tamper with our electrical fuse box and shut off the pool's power supply. Once we were able to figure out what happened and turned the fountain back on, she threatened to call the police on us if we didn't comply with her demands and then turned up her stereo to a deafening volume and sat on her porch staring at us uncomfortably the entire week. Certainly don't stay here if privacy and noise level are a concern for you but overall the location was good and the house was very nice.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car.
Owner response: We would like to respond to Mr. Beach’s review. First, I appreciate Mr. Beach's kind words about our home. To address the points regarding the neighborhood, our place is located on the edge of Bahama Village (as stated in VRBO) where there are certainly more roosters than in some other parts of Key West (though roosters are ubiquitous in Key West). It is a family neighborhood, and we tell all prospective guests that after about 10:00 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends, parties should be brought indoors with closed doors to be respectful of surrounding families. I understand the Beach group enjoyed several late (2:30 a.m.) loud outside parties. These annoyed the neighborhood to the point of complaints (my very first since purchasing the property in December 2009). On the Beach's final night, as the they returned from the bars they egged and papered the neighbor’s car and front porch. The next day they vigorously denied anything to do with the incident. What they did not know was that a neighbor filmed the action and was going to call the police to report the trespassing and vandalism. We were able to convince the neighbors not to call the police by agreeing to pay for the cleanup and by informing them that the Beach’s were leaving so that this would not happen again. Marshall Beach did agree to pay for the cleanup. If morning roosters would annoy you, or if your family/group likes to have late loud outside parties, or if you think egging and papering the neighbor’s property would be fun, then perhaps our place would not be a good fit for your vacation plans.

When three girlfriends and I read the description of this wonderful property in Key West we knew the search for our perfect getaway home was over. This house has it all! lts location is within walking distance of many KW attractions including Hemingway House, KW lighthouse, famous Duval Street, the popular Blue Heaven Restaurant, and many, many other restaurants and stores. The house is very spacious and open and everything is new. There is one nice bedroom with twin beds on the first floor, as well as a bath/shower, and two very large bedrooms and baths on the second floor. Easily enough room for a group like ours, several couples, or a family with children. There is a lovely patio in back with plentiful seating and the heated pool was a treat. There is parking in front for two cars but getting around KW is very easy without one. The trolleys are a great way to get a overview of the area and taxis are plentiful (and inexpensive) as well. The owner of this property was great to work with and we would happily do business with him again. We will be recommending his Tropical Retreat Near Duval to family and friends who might be looking for the perfect place to stay in Key West. It just might be the perfect place for your getaway too!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We had the pleasure of renting this in May and can't say enough about it. The house is immaculate. The pictures are more than accurate and its even better in person. The bedrooms are all spacious and the master suite/master bath is enormous. There are beautiful decks off the master and front bedrooms and its great to just chill out on them. It is conveniently located to everything (Blue Heaven, Santiagos Bodega and the Lighthouse being some of the closest places). Petronia is just steps away and there are new restaurants to try. The pool is phenominal and well maintained. It has every amenity you could want and obviously loved by its owners.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.
