Perfect Summer Vacation
Perfect Summer Vacation
We had a wonderful vacation at the Sunset Cottage. It was described exactly as we found it to be. The sunset views each night were spectacular. All amenities were in great shape. We used the fire pit, hot tub, beach, gas BBQ, patio and porch for our family vacation. We brought bicycles with us and went on some long and short rides. The Sunset Cottage is the perfect place for relaxing, too. The owner has thought of everything to make the vacationers comfortable.

Owner response: It nice meeting you and thanks again for vacationing at the Sunset Cottage. Since a great time was had by all, will you be returning in 2014? Hope to welcome you back!
The design of this home provides central gathering areas, inside and outside. Easy access to the beach area with beach chairs and nice warm, shallow water for the children to play. The third floor bedrooms are outstanding in both design and decor. Suttons Bay and the other M22 small towns provide several points of interest for short trips, each town have excellent public beach areas with playgrounds. Traverse City is an easy 15 mile drive if you enjoy the midsize city feel. Overall, just a great place to spend your vacation.

from St. Louis.....
My family (including my immdiate family of 5 along with both sets of grandparents) arrived on the first Saturday of July 2012. I was looking for a place where 9 people could have enoght space AND enjoy each other's company. Well, I found it in this rental!! The house was amazing and the outdoor areas made the stay exactly what we wanted it to be. We ate dinner there several nights using the SECOND full gormet kitchen in the lower level with patio right outside the door. The grill was great and the granite patio table allowed all 9 of us to sit around the table together which is very important to us. At home when the temp was 100+ degrees we were in Sutton's Bay outside of this home building a fire and sitting around a circle with blankets and roasting marshmellows. We shot off fireworks one night and I have never seen stars so bright and clear as from the third floor master bedroom balcony sitting outside at the end of the night enjoying a drink with my husband and feeling so blessed to have found a house we can enjoy with our parents and children. The shopping in Sutton's Bar is great. Sutton's Bay is the perfect place to make day trips from. We went around to different areas each day and went to the Cherry festival a couple times as well. I highly recommend this property especially if you are used to upscale accomodations as myself and family are.

Owner response: It was wonderful to meet you and happy to learn you enjoyed the home and amenities so much. I try very hard to exceed guest expectations and always happy to learn when I do. I have to agree the view from the third floor master suite is nothing but spectalar and the nightly starts love to dance overhead! Also thanks for maintaining the Sunset and returning it is such pristine condition! Please consider a return visit next year - would love to welcome you all back! Tom
Labor Day 2012
Labor Day 2012
My friends and I rented the Sunset Cottage over Labor Day to celebrate my 30th birthday. This home was AMAZING, even better than in the pictures. Even though we rarely wanted to leave the gorgeous house, deck, firepit, or lake, it was in a great location for wine tasting, dining, shopping, and near a grocery store. The owner was extremely friendly (stopped by to welcome us to the home), and was very helpful in helping us plan our weekend. I am looking forward to recommending to friends and family, or even coming back myself.

R & R
My boyfriend and I stayed here back in September 2011 with 3 other couples. This home is not only beautiful and furnished with upscale taste, it was spacious and very accomodating from inside out. The house is located on the beach where you can walk about 100 feet out before it drops. The sunsets were gorgeous along with the endless nights lit up with bonfires. The property was clean and felt like home. I would highly recommeded this property and I would definitely stay here again! The location was about 10 minutes from town and approximately 20 minutes away from wineries, great dining, etc. Traverse City is about a 25 minute drive as well.

A Vacation Paradise in Suttons Bay, Michigan
A Vacation Paradise in Suttons Bay, Michigan
We stayed at the Sunset Cottage the third week of July 2011. Our party consisted of myself, husband, our toddler son, my sister, my parents, parent's dog, and mother-in-law. Everyone had a fabulous time! The top floor of the Sunset Cottage is like a five-star hotel - the view is absolutely beautiful (due to the aqua blue waters of the bay - at times, you need to pinch yourself as a reminder you are not at a fancy hotel on the Caribbean). The furnishings on both the main level and top floor are exceptional, both kitchens are top of the line in terms of appliances and all of the bathrooms were renovated beautifully - it is a fabulous and well-maintained vacation home. The outside patio has everything you would need - again, high-quality outdoor furnishings, nice grill, great beach area, and the shallow water worked out great for our young son. We rented a pontoon for a few days and would recommend some type of watercraft rental for a few days if not for the full week (the Suttons Bay marina is very close in case bad weather pops up). The town of Suttons Bay is only a couple of miles away - it is quaint town with an assortment of shops, galleries and restaurants. If you have not been to this area of Northern Michigan, there are a ton of things to do away from the cottage - the Dunes are a must see, there are several lakeside towns that are worth the visit (all relatively small unless you venture into Traverse City - which is great as well), wineries, countless parks and beaches for the explorer with and without lighthouses. I always enjoy coming to this area of Michigan - it is an exceptionally beautiful area - the water is clear and enchanting - it should be a must see on everyone's list of places to visit. So to conclude, a week at the Sunset Cottage is like a week in paradise!

Our August 2011 vacation at "Sunset Cottage" (myself, 81 year old mother, sister, brother, four teenage boys, and a Maltese-Poodle) was nothing short of spectacular! As a commercial interior designer, believe me when I say that the photos do not represent how outstanding this beautiful property is; spacious, gorgeous interior/exterior furnishings and details. The property was clean, and well-maintained The boys loved the "private" lower level with large bedroom, full bathroom, comfortable seating area with a flatscreen tv, full kitchen, dining/game table, and washer/dryer. Fabulous Sutton's Bay views from three levels, balconies and most rooms, grilling/ alfresco dining on the large generously-appointed patio, evening camp-fires, swimming, comfortable lounge chairs and chaises on the beach. The owner is extremely gracious and helpful - a last-minute jet ski rental was a breeze. Water shoes maybe helpful in navigating some stony areas. When surveyed, the only recommended change to our 2012 vacation was: "rent TWO jet skis"! Binder with brochures of area attractions helped us plan our days; grocery and shopping within two miles, 30 minute drives to the Sleeping Bear Dunes, Traverse City, etc. There was ample parking for four vehicles (different arrival times). I would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives.

Why the Owner Chose Suttons Bay:
I have lived in this home years and have continually upgraded the property to make best use of the spectacular view with guest comfort in mind. There is not a better spot to come home to - I would like to say the only item you will overlook is the view!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
