  My 12 year old son and I had a wonderful vacation at the Castle in Hawaii this past July 2012. Not only was the ocean front home an awesome sight but it was very comfortable and it had all the amenities one would need (Internet, cable tv, kitchen, pool, hot tub, beautiful outdoor shower, parking, etc.). Having our own ocean-view patio to eat in after preparing breakfast in the breezeway kitchen was a great way to start each day of our fun adventures in the Puna area. Sheri was very welcoming and she gave us helpful advice on area activities and restaurants. The weather on the Puna coast is perfectly mild, but on a particularly hot day it was great to be able to jump in the pool and after a day of hiking at the volcano it was great to soak my weary muscles in the hot tub under the stars. My son totally loved the fact that we stayed in a castle -even the furnishings inside are fit for a king! We have lots of great photos with the castle as a backdrop -they are almost as amazing as the photos of the stunning natural environment of Hawaii. We highly recommend Sheri's castle to anyone looking for a comfortable and unique place to stay. Also, don't forget to go to Kalani for lunch and a yoga class, and make sure you go to the SPACE farmers market (Saturday morning), and to Uncle Roberts Awa Bar on Wednesday evening for a music filled famers market.

  The Castle is a great getaway- clean, neat and off the beaten trail. Serenity of the waves crashing lull you to sleep from the carriage house or the suites. Near Volcanoes National Park and the lava viewing area in Kalapana off Rtes. 130/137. We stayed 2 weeks in the spacious Carriage House from 7/26 to 8/9/12. Hammock upstairs was beautiful, great KING bed and a twin in a loft. Entire house is open air. We were greeted with fresh leis and local fruits. And a great surprise was a dozen organic eggs! Kitchen had everything needed to prepare meals, large refrigerator…. Innkeeper on the premise is knowledgeable of the area and how to get places or she can help you arrange tours/ gourmet meals. If you are looking for a nice rural location with lots to do nearby (Kapoho tidepools, warm pools, black sand beaches, local farmers markets), this is it. The carriage house fit our trip budget and after 9 days in Waikiki, it was a nice residential and rural area away from it all. My sons and I enjoyed our 2 weeks here immensely and hated to leave!

  We were married on top of Mauna Kea and brought our group of 16 people to Pahoa with us. Sheri arranged everything, down to the most minute detail, for our wedding reception and it was all perfect and exceeded our expectations. They are gracious hosts and go far out of their way for their guest. They really made us feel at home and took care of us as if we were family. We liked that we could feel comfortable and be ourselves in their space. You can really feel the love and care that went into building this unique space. It is so welcoming and tranquil. We have stayed in a lot of places all over and by far this place is special! We shall return to storm the castle once again.

  An unexpected business trip to Hawaii made up our minds. We would elope! I wanted to find a castle... because I had found my Prince. Google gave us Castle in Hawaii and then we gave Sherri (aka castle lady :) a nearly impossible task... pull together our wedding within a few weeks... but we weren't sure of anything not even the date or when exactly we could arrive! Sherri rolled with our last minute thoughts and changes, arrival and wedding dates... and pulled together a ceremony and reception beyond our imaginations. It was beautiful, surreal and absolutely unforettable. Our stay at the castle was also like a fairy tale... high comfortable beds, outside showers, a hot tub under the stars, bountiful breakfasts served to us in our lanai are just a few of the features and services that made Castle in Hawaii the ideal honeymoon or romantic getaway spot. We were also impressed with Sherri's desire to accommodate our needs... whether they be sightseeing, relaxing or just taking in the local flavor. Sherri was there to personally greet us at the airport upon our arrival and kiss us good bye as we unwillingly departed... another service that we greatly appreciated. Thank you to Sherri, her very awesome husband John and everybody who was involved in our magical and memorable time in Hawaii... and don't worry dear "Castle Lady" ... we will be back! :) Laura Lee Sawyer and Chuck Todd Torrens P.S. we had our first tandem bike ride in Hawaii courtesy of Sherri and John and their beautiful old bike "for loan"... we had several fabulously fun rides there which prompted us to get ourselves a tandem here ( two, in fact!)... and keep riding our way to years of a happy, healthy and forever kind of marriage! Thanks again, Sherri and John... save our seats!

  My 9th trip to the islands & mostly rentals. The Castle is the most unique! Much planning & expert craftsmanship went into this 'home!' John & Sheri are friendly, excellent hosts. Sheri is vibrant & on the go but makes her home, your home. Relaxing breakfast on your private lanai overlooking the ocean or out by the pool is wonderful. Walk out of your room (I had the Queen's room) & watch a breathtaking sunrise or walk across to the grassy palm tree laden park across the street & chill. You will not sleep better - beds are super comfy & with the slider open you can hear the tropical sounds & ocean to fall asleep to! The Castle is very private & with your own fridge & kitchen access you can't ask for more. The outdoor shower is private and heavenly!!! Sheri is right, just "jump on the plane" & everything else is at hand! Sunlight on Water Dolphin Swim is fabulous, as was the helicopter tour of the volcano. The end of the road is access to a volcano tour and go the other way & you can drive the breathtaking Puna coast heading back toward Hilo. My advice as a frequent Hawaii visitor is, do not be a "tourist" and stay in a cookie cutter hotel; stay somewhere unique (The Castle) & live more like a local. You'll have the advantage of the owner 'on property' to answer questions, give directions, or even call up & make tour arrangements or recommendations for you if you like. The only downside is the distance you are from the major cities, if that is a downside. Me, I don't want to ever be in the middle of tourism-central, I much prefer my privacy & to go about my way independently & staying at the Castle allows you to do that. Likewise, it is the Big Island & it is impossible to be near everything like it is on smaller islands. Finally, the Castle holds a secret that only a Castle can...you'll have to stay there to find out what it is! Thanks so much Sheri & John!

  Our stay at the Castle In Hawaii was one of the best vacations we have ever had. Felt like a king in my castle. Sorry Sheri had to be out of town, but John was a wonderful host. Great view, Great swimming spots of all types near by. Lots to do. Will come back more than likley.

  If you want to have the absolute best vacation of your life, this Castle is the place to go. The people are wonderful - anything you want, they make sure you get it. The room was very comfortable, and yes - I could see the ocean just as described :-) The nearby black sand beach was so much fun. I loved going to the Farmer's Market and meeting local people, as well as trying local foods. I would go back in a heartbeat - it was relaxing, there is so much to do nearby, and the hosts are just wonderful people. And now I have pictures of an actual castle in Hawaii - who'd expect to see such a thing!?
