GORGEOUS, LARGE, WELL-LOVED, CHALET, 3500 square feet!, 3 Bedrooms + Loft + Den + Playroom, 3 Baths (Sleeps 12) AMAZING VIEW!
*** PLEASE NOTE: Holidays are now rented. Thank you. Also please NOTE: Our base rates are for 7 people and we charge $50/per person, per night for additional people. Thanks!
As you gaze up from the road to this magnificent mountain home you will realize this is no ordinary rental cabin. The structure itself looks like it has been here for decades with its rugged used brick and dark beam exterior, highlighted by a two-story wall of windows that provides a 180-degree view of the Big Bear Mountain-Snow Summit ski slopes and the lake.
The two-story living room is dominated by a 30-feet stone fireplace (with gas starter) that fills the entire east wall. The gigantic beams supporting the vaulted, wood ceiling, give the impression of alpine ski lodge. With some 3,500 square feet of living space - including three large bedrooms and sleeping loft - the structure certainly qualifies as a lodge. Yet somehow the cabin feels amazingly cozy and intimate!
On the other end of the living room, guests can gather around the dining table, window seat and breakfast bar overlooking the kitchen, with room to spare; 3 -even 4 chefs could prepare different courses in the enormous, luxuriously furnished “cook’s kitchen” and not feel crowded.
This vacation home is perfect for a large family with several children or two families who love to vacation together, but like plenty of room. The living room has two huge beanbags in front of the fireplace, a fainting couch under a great reading light, a full size leather couch with two matching love seats - there’s a separate Library/Den room (affectionately dubbed 'Man Cave') with a second fireplace and the perfect velvet covered couch and double seater great chair and ottoman for watching movies, streaming Netflix, or cable TV. The wood-paneled walls are lined with bookshelves holding 100s of titles, and at least that many DVDs, not to mention the many board games. There’s tons of toys and movies for the toddlers,(kept in good order by our renters - thank you!). The young adults also have their own space in the Playroom adjacent to the back deck, which contains a pool/ping-pong table, an HD TV with cable and a Wii system, an Xbox and older model Nintendo, plus a comfortable full sized couch and great chair, and a wall of windows overlooking the National Forest. Just out those doors is great sledding, and we keep sleds on hand. Also the large side yard is perfect for making snow people or dog walking and you will really appreciate the sense of having lots of space in this neighborhood!
Adjacent to the Playroom is a lovely private bed and bath/shower (has its own water heater). The bed is a gorgeous carved wood king bed and there is a wall of windows out to the forest.
The two master bedrooms upstairs are 15 x 20' and are well appointed, from quality beds with 500 thread count sheets and down comforters to a vanity table with a lighted magnifying mirror and flat screen TVs and DVD players, the main master has a fireplace as well. The view from the bedroom windows is private and you can see up the mountain into the forest from bed! You will never be awakened here by the sound of drunken renters arriving at 3 AM (as is common in other heavy rental areas)..only birdsong and the smell of coffee brewing.
If it’s more physical exercise you crave, just walk out past the back deck. This is a section of the forest most Big Bear visitors never discover since this quiet Whispering Forest neighborhood is only accessible on one road that has no other outlet. Even the hiking trails were carved out by neighbors rather than the National Forest Service. If snowboarding or downhill-skiing is your passion, Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are 10 minutes away. After you drop off the snowboarders, you won't want to leave the cabin for the rest of the day...sitting by the fire while reading a book, playing on your laptop or putting together a picture puzzle, making a pie, watching a movie by firelight, taking that nap you've always promised yourself, or on warm days sitting out on the wonderful South-facing front deck, soaking up the sun and taking in the tranquility of the entire mountain range beyond! You will soon come to feel that you have adopted this place as your own private retreat!
In fact, this is NOT like other rentals, and until this season, it has only been used by our family and rented out to friends of friends. Please NOTE: this is NOT a party house!! Our neighbors (and Property Manager who lives in the 'hood') help us out by counting incoming registered guests and keeping a watchful eye that it stays quiet and peaceful.
But, if you want a extremely large vacation home that is warm, tranquil, comfortable and homey...art everywhere, an immense library of books and films, 3 fireplaces, a Playroom for the kids, the National Forest as your backyard...and of course, that amazing view...well, your search ends here!
THANKS for looking! Please contact us with ANY questions and know that I will do my best to give you a very prompt response. There are more pix posted at TheMorluvChalet (dot)shutterfly(dot)com Between those pictures and the reviews here, you should be reassured that this is the Queen Of Big Bear Cabins!! And we have a very select group of previous preferred renters who will testify to that themselves, upon request.
If you would PLEASE check the Rate Section and the AVAILABILITY Calendar BEFORE emailing or calling - it will tell you about our rental fees, deposits and availability - it's kept quite current and if you find there is availability on the time you would like to come, I will get back to your promptly to answer any questions! I promise you...you won't be disappointed with The Morluv Chalet or any part of your rental experience with us!! It's been a great blessing to us and to all others who have visited! THANKS!

Had a great stay in this wonderful cabin! The owner was easy to getba hold of and was very helpful with everything, down to the smallest thing. Our kids had a lot of fun playing video games and our hubbies enjoyed the pool table. The fireplace was nice and cozy where the the mom's gathered around and chatted. The kitchen was full of everything you need and more! A keurig coffee maker! Awesome cabin! :)Owner response: Thank you so much for your caring and positive response. And thanks for leaving the cabin in awesome condition and being SO easy to work with. I really appreciate renters like yourselves and look forward to sharing the cabin with you again! As I know I must have mentioned, I personally find summer to be the absolutely BEST time...hope you can come check it out for yourselves! Thanks again~

I’ve recently had the pleasure to stay at the Morluv Chalet and I’ve got to say that it was truly a cozy, warm and remarkable experience. We came up here as an escape from it all and got exactly what we wanted! The location is so peaceful, quiet and being able to just walk out the back door and right to the trail made afternoon hikes so pleasurable. The cabin is well kept (actually very clean) and everything seems to have been chosen for “comfort”; the chairs, the throws, the beds, the couches, everything was just so comfortable. If it’s a modern, cold venue you’re looking for, this definitely isn’t the place. This cabin was very warm and inviting. We enjoyed how it felt like you were visiting your family’s house in the woods, it really had such a welcoming feel. The kitchen was so user friendly, everything you could need was there. We forgot some spices and found them in the cupboards, not to mention a few I hadn’t used before which really helped to add some depth to our culinary creations. Finally, working with Jolinda was such a pleasurable experience. We got the feeling from the start like we were just planning a visit with a family member. She made the whole experience completely stress free and easy. I would indeed recommend this to anyone who can appreciate a well-loved home in the mountains.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: Alex, We are SO grateful for wonderful renters like you, and yours! We followed you up last weekend and you left the cabin in PERFECT shape...and even better than before you came, with many caring additions and positive comments. Thank you so very much for helping the world to be a better place, and we are looking forward to your return visit next month...when you can see the great improvements we've made since you were there last. :) Again, our gratitude for taking the time to tell others that you loved the "Morluv Chalet"!

This was our first time staying at the Morluv Chalet, and it was everything we were told it would be, and more! The home was extremely well-maintained, and large enough for our two families to spread out and enjoy. We found a fully stocked kitchen with more than enough supplies to aid us in meal preparations. The views from the front deck were fantastic of the mountains; as well as of Big Bear Lake! When we weren't out boating, fishing, shopping, or hiking right outside our back door; we were able to kick back and relax in one of the numerous rooms at the Chalet. Many fierce competitions took place on the ping-pong table in the huge game room. We will definitely be back in the future. Thanks for your wonderful hospitality!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.

My family enjoys visiting Big Bear at least twice a year. We visited the Morluv Chalet in February for a week and celebrated my birthday there. It was fantastic. The home is clean, exceptionally well appointed, and has so many 'extras' that it would take me all day to list them. The beds are hard to beat, and if the rest of the place weren't so fantastic, I would consider just staying in bed for a day... or five. The owners are amazing people and really go out of the way to make their home feel like your own. In fact, we enjoyed ourselves so much in Feb. that we recruited some life-long family friends to fly in from Wisconsin to join us at the Morluv for 9 days last month!! If possible, it was even more fun in August. We were able to Zip line, go boating several times, jet skiing, take a leisure day at the "beach", not too mention explore, explore and explore some more on the fabulous neighborhood trails. There were 7 of us and my beloved little puppy and never once did we feel cramped, or crowded. The home is spacious enough for everyone to have their own "spot" but cozy enough to feel the love. I cannot recommend this rental or the gracious owners enough. You will not be disappointed.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners.
Owner response: OMG...is it any wonder that of ALL our amazing and fabulous renters (seriously - you guys are the BEST!!) you and yours take the cake, Robyn. You are so grateful and appreciative and although the BBQ was on the blink while you were there, I never even heard about it until you got home and then it was just "no problem at all". I hear of renters I am happy not to have met that have demanded their money back over such a silly thing. YOU always leave it immaculate and send me wonderful pictures of enjoying the cabin - it makes ME want to go more myself! Thank you for your generous and positive spirit...you are a real blessing in this world and we can't wait to have you back again!!

We LOVED the MorLuv Chalet! My husband and I met our three grown children, two with their spouses and children, for a week's summer vacation and found the house to be even better than its' description! We comfortably accommodated 7 adults and 4 children and we all had plenty of private space, plus 3 full bathrooms, and the really FUN game room, plus two other "living rooms", comfy couches galore, and a big, well equipted kitchen that made preparing family meals a delight. There was so much to do in Big Bear, but we especially loved being at the Lake with Jet Skis and a big picnic lunch! At night, we grilled our fish dinners and all sat out on the large deck, talking and laughing about our family antics, and I have to say, I think there is something very special about MorLuv Chalet, because we all grew even closer as we shared this magical time together. For the money, we could not have come close to finding a better vacation house!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, pet owners.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your review...we really appreciate it! I was especially glad to hear that you found it a deal, as I know the price seems pretty high when you have that many people there. Thanks for your understanding that we raise the rental fee for groups over seven and for making that easy and comfortable for all of us. That it was still a good deal for you makes me happy as well. Also, the housekeeper said the place was immaculate and that she really appreciated your doing all the sheets and towels for her, as we had people checking in the same day you checked out. That made things work so much better at our end...and we feel blessed to have your positive energy and contributions to the cabin...and hope that you can come again soon!

What a beautiful location and great for our family of 12. There was space for everyone and so much do to when we were in the house. Ping pong, shooting pool, video games, movies and board games; all available to enjoy time together. House is even bigger than it looks in pictures. Plenty of activities in Big Bear: zoo (our favorite); boating (such fun); alpine slide (our favorite too). Most peaceful spot for me was the front deck of the house with a cup of tea and the amazing view in the morning. Will go again -- Love the owners and the house is great!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Ali...I knew right from the beginning that you were going to be just a peach of a renter. We are very grateful for all your love and care to the cabin...you left it in better condition than when you arrived, as I understand it from the housekeeper!~ AND your words of appreciation made us feel wonderful and validated in the pleasure we get from sharing this fabulous place with ONLY the RIGHT PEOPLE. Thanks for being one of those great ones...we look forward to seeing you and your crew again soon!

We arrived Thursday. My kids, 2 & 4 went exploring this large house. They had fun in all the different rooms. They discovered the game/toy room. They had a little deck out back that they kids liked to play on. The front deck was nice too to hang out on and eat lunch. We brought our 2 dogs. They had a great time as well. It was easy to access the national forest right outside the back door. I would walk my dogs out there in the am. 3 times we packed lunches and took kids & dogs for a hike. You can hike for miles back there and not see a sole. The kitchen was well equipped. I was able to make all our meals. There was a nice table to eat our meals too. It was cozy and comfy to read magazines on the large leather couches while gazing out the picture windows at the mountains. In the evenings we spent time with the library's fireplace on, roasting marshmellows & watching a movie while our Tots played with the games. There was room for me to keep a Xlarge size dog crate in the pool table room for my puppy while we were out. The dogs did well off leash on the property as the house is further up from the street so they stayed away from there. The yard/property doesn't have fences to keep your dogs in but my dogs did well & never go far since there was no other humans/animals close by. Overall, it's an older eclectic mountain chalet kind of house which is fun to get a REAL mountain feeling!Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners.
Owner response: Karen, We thank you kindly for your detailed review of your personal experience in the "Morluv Chalet". It even gave me a good and clear picture of the love and warmth that is so accessible there! We are grateful for your care of the cabin and for your helpful and easy way of handling the details and we look forward to renting to you, and yours, when you are ready to come back again. Thanks very much, Jolinda

This home was such a perfect getaway for our family. There were 7 adults and we all slept in wonderfully comfortable beds. We loved the fact that we could spread out into the different rooms of the house so some could be playing ping pong while others read a book in front of a roaring fire while others snacked in the dining area. The huge picture windows in the living room overlooked the entire Big Bear valley with clear views of all the ski runs - breathtaking. While we were there we got almost 1 foot of snow. The owner's very detailed instructions helped us find the right person to clear the driveway of snow. Even though we planned on doing some activities away from the house while we were there, we all found we just wanted to stay in the house for the majority of the time. If you're looking for a place to go that has old-world charm and a cozy feeling, this is the place for you.Owner response: Lisa, Thank you so much for your lovely words! Clearly, you get the same great energy from the cabin that we do every time we are there. It is SUCH a blessing! From the very beginning, commenting on how reasonable you found our rates to be, you have been nothing but a pleasure. We will be delighted to add you, and yours, to our special Preferred Renters List and look forward to sharing our cabin with you again! It's people like you that make our shared world a better place...and you give me faith in the "faceless minions" out there in our shared world. Thank you so much for all your care, for generously leaving firewood for others, for donating a nice new candle, and generally for being grateful and appreciative. It has been our pleasure to know you! Thanks so much, Jolinda Marshall

From the moment we arrived my husband, our friends and myself new we had made the right choice. MorLuvChalet is a well stocked beautifully appointed cabin (really too large to be called a cabin). We wanted for nothing during our stay. From the fantastic beds with wonderfull cozy bedding to the large well equipped and stocked kitchen. We spent hours playing monopoly and cards just enjoying the beautifull views and peaceful surroundings. Four days of complete relaxation. Though we did venture to town during our stay most of our time was spent enjoying MorLuvChalet.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, age 55+.

About the owner: We are healthy, close and fun loving family, with great appreciation for sharing quality time together! We have all worked very hard to make our mountain hideaway, The Morluv Chalet, the terrific place that it is. We welcome friends who enter with respect and care and we're glad to share the many wonderful times to be had. And we thank our terrific renters for such heart-touching positive comments -it's been a wonderful experience getting to know you!
Why the Owner Chose Whispering Forest:
This is without a doubt the best location in Big Bear, it's so quiet and peaceful...far away from the busy rental and crowded downtown section, yet just minutes to everything. Going out the back door into the National Forest or sitting on the large front deck with 180 degree views of the mountain range and watching the sun set over the lake or star gazing at night (so CLEAR) is as close to heaven as it comes!
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
It's peaceful. It's cozy and warm and nurturing and a great place to bake that cake, or read that book you never seem to get around to otherwise. Memories of family ping pong games, hiking together in the forest or games of Taboo in front of that great fireplace will linger forever.
NOTE: this is NOT your typical rental cabin and it is carefully only rented out to those who agree to treat it with the respect it deserves. We have never had even a tiny complaint for any of our former renters...only warm words of praise and gratitude. (thank you, thank you, thank you!) :)
