Owner's Map of Bow

Dana and Toni Ann Rust have lived in Downtown Edison for 35 years. They own the historic building neighboring the Flutter In on the south where they have created a residence for themselves, an art gallery, an artist’s studio, and Tweets which is run by neighbors, Charles Atkinson and David Blakesley. Over the years their entrepreneurial spirit has led them to try businesses such as The Heavenly Worm Farm and The King Kong Destruction Company. In 1988, they opened the Edison Eye Gallery which continues to exhibit fine art for sale by local artists.

Sit back and stare out the window

My best friend and I had a such a great weekend at your Inn! Edison has always been a day trip destination for us and it was nice to spend two nights and really take in the area. With all of the great food, art and other eye candy in town it was nice to be right in the middle of town, although very quiet. We ate out one night and cooked in the second night. The kitchen was great. The back side of the house is filled with windows that look out at the Samish Slough and it was so relaxing to watch the sky and water reflecting and the fowl and eagles, etc. gliding through the water and sky. We had a bit of snow and it was so beautiful! Perfect getaway. We'll be back for sure!!

Owner response:Yes! The Edison Flutter In makes a fabulous winter retreat with lots of windows that brighten the home. The view is peaceful and the birdlife truly amazing. As these guests have done, you can find a balance between hunkering down to enjoy the quiet or venturing forth to explore the town and the surrounding countryside--a mixture of wetlands, beaches, mountain trails and farmland.

This has been a great place to spend our eighth anniversary. Our 15 month old has loved watching the birds: so many kinds! We’ve enjoyed exploring the town, and also were grateful for the proximity to so many other interesting adventures. The house was impressively clean, perfectly outfitted, and a delightful respite. Thanks again!

What a treat. After a long day shucking oysters, we had this place to stumble into. Sitting on the patio sipping wine with friends, and the bird watching here is fabulous! We’ll be back!

We enjoyed a very relaxing and peaceful weekend in this beautiful and comfortable house. We spent most of Saturday watching the birds feed and the raindrops on the water in the slough. We can't wait until our next visit!

A most lovely setting. We've been watching white crowned sparrows, red winged blackbirds, green winged teal, Arlat Blue Heron, killdeer, bald eagles, white throated sparrow, mallard and 15+ more when we cycled to Padilla Bay Trail! We cannot thank you and cannot say enough. Welcoming, well-supplied--a home away from home! We are very grateful for your fabulous hospitality.

The only way I can think of to adequately thank you for providing this retreat is to recommend it to everyone I meet. My stay here reminded me why the phrases "the light lay over the land" and "the blush of dawn" have such resonance.

You can't talk about the Flutter Inn without mentioning the town of Edison and the many wonderful shopkeepers who go out of their way to make you feel like a town resident during your stay. From our first visit to the coffee shop to our last at the deli we felt like valued visitors. And the food.. you can't go to Edison without raving about the food. It was locally sourced, well prepared and even the local bars speak reverently of their chefs. Whether you want a place where you can park your car and never have to turn that key again until you leave or a central location that allows you to explore the beauty of the Skagit Valley, Chuckanut Drive and the San Juan Islands, this is an ideal location. This not so little house is everything it promises and more. The two bedrooms are separated by the living space making it perfect for families or roommates or two couples traveling together and every room overlooks the slough... a birder's paradise from the first blush of dawn when a chickadee reminds you to fill the feeder till dazzling sunsets fade into night and the eagles make their last pass before retiring. We especially appreciated that the entire house is disability friendly. There is an access ramp onto a level deck, hand rails in a wide hallway and grab bars in the restroom. The house is very well designed for those with mobility issues. This is one of those places that linger in your memory long after you have left. I am already making plans to go back.
