At the Flutter In, Edison, Washington, one can experience a gestalt-like spirit of place that magically combines the physical landscape with a convivial, historic town to produce a cocktail of fun, rapture and attitude.
Built in 2003, the Flutter In nestles in amongst the historic buildings of downtown Edison. Each room looks out over the tidal waters of Edison Slough allowing you to enjoy magnificent views of the wetland, surrounding sky and the bountiful birdlife that “flutters in” to fish, hunt, or feed only a few feet from the house. Facing west, the sunsets are mesmerizing no matter the season.
Gather produce and seafood from local farms and produce vendors for cooking in our fully-equipped kitchen. Or, walk down the street and let the many local proprietors exercise their culinary expertise to prepare for you bakery goodies, soups, cheese and sausage plates, salads, oysters and other foods in season. At the Flutter In, you are only a hop, skip and a jump from delectable delights of all kinds.
Hang out, hobnob with the locals, view artwork in neighboring galleries or simply curl up in front of the fire with a good book. If being more active suits your needs, climb onto your bicycle or into your kayak and enjoy access to the local scenery right from your front door. Walks along the beach and mountain hikes are only a short drive away.

Edison is one of my favorite places to visit. Great food, great music, great scenery and it is not a far drive from Seattle. I was very happy to find the Flutter Inn, which is right between Tweets and Slough Food, and appears to be the only vacation lodging in Edison. On Friday night we parked the car in front, and didn't get in again until Sunday afternoon. The house is very comfortable and exactly as advertised. We spent most of the time in the living room looking out the giant picture window at the slough rising and falling with the tide and the vast number of birds. There are some great guide books and binoculars to use in the home. I would love to visit in the summer and take real advantage of the great deck and BBQ.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: I'm delighted that you enjoyed a quiet, restful and bird-filled stay at the Edison Flutter In. Please do return to try out the deck and the BBQ.

We have stayed here a few times already. This was our second time staying for the Oyster Run and we will be staying there again next year for the Run. This is one of my favourite areas and we always have a great time there. The Edison Flutter In is a great find and Edison is a fabulous fun little town. Always enjoy seeing Toni Ann and Dana, wonderful, interesting people. Looking forward to many more fun, restful stays in this beautiful , scenic little spot! The fact that there are several great spots to eat is also an added bonus!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.

A perfect vacation getaway for a small family or two couples. The charming cottage has ample bedrooms on opposite sides of the open-plan, well-appointed kitchen/ living room, which looks out onto the ever-changing, tidal landscape of the slough. The house is set back from the main street of Edison, WA, and is surrounded by delicious eateries and first-class art galleries -- literally seconds away from the front door. We didn't use the deck in the backyard, but it was furnished with a lovely patio set and a very nice BBQ unit. We loved every moment and hope to return someday! Thanks for a great vacation rental experience.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: I am delighted you enjoyed your stay at the Edison Flutter In. We enjoyed having you as guests. You seemed to be having so much fun. I do hope you come back!

We arrived in the town of Edison on Sunday 2pm. All the shops and restaurants were open. The home is located smack dab in the middle of all the goodness of Edison. Slough Foods right next door offers wine, local/domestic/import cheeses, cured meats, local eggs, etc. Then there is The Bread Farm which has wonderful fresh baked breads, cookies, granola, etc. The Lucky Dumpster is a charming artistic shop filled with locally made treasures. Farm to Market Bakery has delicious sandwiches, pies, cookies, latte's, etc. Tweets makes fresh/local ingredient, delicious sandwiches and salads along with lots of fresh baked goodies. There are two taverns that serve up good food throughout the week (as all other retailers are closed). The house was very nice. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. Providing fresh coffee for the coffee maker. Full kitchen with all you need; dishes, pots & pans, utensils, etc. Two good sized bedrooms & a large bathroom. A large living room with an active bird feeder outside the window. Lots of bird traffic to keep you entertained. A nice deck with umbrella table and chairs to enjoy the peaceful view of the river. We will be back! I rented this spot for my Mother-in-Law and the grandkids but now I want a chance to stay here. Lots to do in the area. Bird watching, scenic drive along Chuckanut Drive, a trip to LaConner for a bit bigger town filled with galleries, restaurants, etc.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: We, too, are delighted that we live in such a colorful, artistic community with so much wonderful food within walking distance. We are also glad that your family enjoyed their stay at the Edison Flutter In and do hope that we see you back here again. And, yes, the birds are wonderfully entertaining!

The Town of Bow Eddison is much more than it appears, there are very special reasons for visiting. The reclaimed lumber company holds many treasures for the person building a home, I could have spent a fortune. The homes are quaint and walking the nieghborhood is lovely. The Longhorn is a step into the past when bars were bars and lots of fun. The eatery "Tweets" is to die for, best little restaurant I've been to in a long time, the service impeccable, the food awesome, the ambiance very inviting we felt completely at home just sitting and drinking our coffees while the rest of the world mosied in and out like the tide of the slough, which gave us much to watch from the window of our accomodations. The Flutter In, is cozy, spacious, clean and very convenient. The proprietors are lovely, kind and friendly. We will be back.Recommended for: People with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: So glad you enjoyed your stay in Edison. We are fortunate to have had such imaginative people (many who grew up in the area) become merchants in our village. Add this to the quiet ambiance of the wetland setting and the original buildings of this historic town and you have a charming destination point. Looking forward to your return.

Gabe: Thank you for such a wonderful property and stay. All of the Snedeker's really enjoyed it, from 15 months to 69 years old, and the place was great for the little one. We love Edison and surrounding area. I think we tried nearly every food business and they all had their charms from dinner at the Rhododendron Cafe, to pumpkin muffin at Farm to Market, to fresh chicken wings at Longhorn. The Rustica we had at Tweets was one of the best food items and the lady that helped me at Samish Bay Cheese was so patient and friendly (when I arrived 5 minutes after closing). Couldn't quite find Gothberg goat cheese though, but I finally found Golden Glen. I think that map they produce should show a few more roads on it. Loved Blau Oysters, too, on your wonderful grill, and who can forget Breadfarm. Is that grocery store in Allen the closest one? seems like there might be room for even more food businesses close by Edison, what great synergy. Maybe local ice cream or heck, we all need another brewer. I'll save my Ciderhouse fantasy business for Peshastin. Sara: Mt. Saint Helen's Day!(also my birthday) I've been in Edison not two hours and made many friends. People at the Tweets Coffee Shop are candid and lively. Awesome food. The Dumpster Thrift Store has lots of crafty artsy items. Great for artist inspiration. The Slough Foods has wonderful fare and wine not to mention the beautiful patio garden. Our toddler loves running around in the yard and bird watching. Perhas she'll have a "big year." This friendly beautiful small town reminds me of a town in SD that I once lived in. My heart yearns to live here!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

My best friend and I had a such a great weekend at your Inn! Edison has always been a day trip destination for us and it was nice to spend two nights and really take in the area. With all of the great food, art and other eye candy in town it was nice to be right in the middle of town, although very quiet. We ate out one night and cooked in the second night. The kitchen was great. The back side of the house is filled with windows that look out at the Samish Slough and it was so relaxing to watch the sky and water reflecting and the fowl and eagles, etc. gliding through the water and sky. We had a bit of snow and it was so beautiful! Perfect getaway. We'll be back for sure!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Yes! The Edison Flutter In makes a fabulous winter retreat with lots of windows that brighten the home. The view is peaceful and the birdlife truly amazing. As these guests have done, you can find a balance between hunkering down to enjoy the quiet or venturing forth to explore the town and the surrounding countryside--a mixture of wetlands, beaches, mountain trails and farmland.

This has been a great place to spend our eighth anniversary. Our 15 month old has loved watching the birds: so many kinds! We’ve enjoyed exploring the town, and also were grateful for the proximity to so many other interesting adventures. The house was impressively clean, perfectly outfitted, and a delightful respite. Thanks again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
