We found this property online. From the beginning, Patricia was first class and the rest of the stay matched that experience. The property was wonderfully situated by the oceana and within walking distance of a great beach for swimming and snorkeling. The building was quiet, well maintained and it was easy to reach most of the main tourist sites. We would stay again in a heartbeat. As for the island, it is now our favourite of all the Hawaiian Islands and we will definitely return!

We (2 couples) have stayed in this unit before and happily returned ( this is our 3rd or 4th time renting from the managers and we have been well treated every time - with great customer service.) I read the prior review about the construction and feel bad for the people but it so much of this is out of the manager's hands. In terms of a construction status - it seems to be almost done. We have been here for over a week so far and there was only one day of 'bad' noise and even then it wasn't continuous. Most days there is no noise at all from that unit. We spend a lot of time in the condo - because we LOVE the lanai views which are fantastic for whale and turtle watching. As an fyi, we have never been bothered by the trash shute since it is in a 'closet' with a door and is not directly in front of this unit anyway. Again - we love the unit and have been treated excellently by the managers every time we've rented here. They care about their guests and have gone above and beyond to meet our needs. It has been a great stay and we hope to return again soon.

Unit Above Under Heavy Construction - Manager Knew - Didn't Warn Us
Unit immediately above is gutted and being remodeled. Floor is removed so you can hear every noise. Skill saws, drills, routers, punches and other power tools are being used all day long with all windows and doors open between hours of 9 and 4, M-F, so you cannot escape it even on balcony. Noise will increase when new floor is installed. Single contractor states construction will continue "at least another month" into February 2013. Unit has been under construction since November. Manager should have warned us so we could change our plans. Stated we should try to stay away from unit between 9 and 4. Did not offer to abate rent due to "circumstances beyond her control". During holidays it is impossible to get an earlier flight off Kauai or find alternative lodging, so we had to just bear by staying away as much as possible. In my opinion, manager acted unethically, possibly fraudulently because she had an obligation to inform us of situation when she became aware of it. Generally speaking, unit is nice. View is great, but even without construction it's a noisy unit because the trash chute is immediately across the breezeway and carts and people are constantly in transit immediately outside kitchen and 2nd bedroom starting early in the morning.

Manager response: As a long time property manager at Poipu Shores, I can assure you that we lost much sleep over the travails suffered by our guest. The offending condo, Poipu Shores 306A, was up for sale for quite some time. In December, a sale was made and quickly closed. With no notice to any neighbors in the building, the new owner decided to perform a complete renovation. When we did find out, we were told it would be the quickest and quietest remodel ever. No one at Poipu Shores in their wildest dreams ever expected the owner to be carrying out a full blown re-model through the Christmas holidays. The new owner, who owns 2 condos at Poipu Shores had no concern for any holiday guests and plowed forward with the construction. Immediately upon hearing of our guest’s concerns, I began working with our office and our board to put a stop to the noise. The new owner pushed back hard and wanted to continue construction even though he knew our guest was extremely unhappy. I was able to get construction stopped completely from the 27th of December to the 1st of January. Work is only done on property from 9am to 4pm and only on Monday to Friday. I notified the guest that they could have a full refund, which we would have happily given them if they vacated the property. I did everything possible to work through a terrible situation, trying to provide an enjoyable experience for our guest in this difficult situation. In the end, the work only affected this guest for less than 4 days of their 11 day stay as the workers were finally pulled from the job site and did not work on the holidays or weekends. Noise from the trash chute is very minimal and guests talking in the hallways are unavoidable as it is a common area. Quiet hours at the complex are from 10pm to 8am. Our guest in 305A, an adjacent condo to the construction site, had no complaints over the noise…perhaps they were out during the day. The timing of the purchase and subsequent re-model worked against our guest. We felt terrible for what our guest was going through, and we did everything we could to help. Our goal is always for a seamless and 100% enjoyable stay for all our guests, and we are extremely unhappy that we were unable to achieve this for this guest.

As always, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your condo. We found everything, except sometimes the weather, very well maintained and in very good working order. We look forward to returning again and enjoying the beautiful view from the lanai.

This property was just fabulous! Great location, clean, wonderful views, and literally, right on the water. The owners were most accommodating and so easy to work with as well. We had the best time and would highly recommend this property to others.

About: Tom and I were married on Kauai in 1977. He actually proposed under a palm at Poipu Beach! We became condo owners at Poipu Shores in 1992 and have owned as many as four condos at once there. Currently we own 2 and manage two. We are a quality resource for your questions and know every inch of the island, including all of the Poipu vacation properties. We live in Honolulu, which gives us easy access to Kauai, and I do go there often to give the 'white glove treatment' to all our condos. This is a vast difference from Mainland owners who do long distance maintenance and oversight of the property. Depend on us for the current information on all things Kauai and Hawaii.
Why Poipu Shores:
Poipu Shores 305A is considered a Deluxe condo category rankings at Poipu Shores. This means our condo (and any other condo in the A building) that ends in the number 4, 5 or 7, is larger by at least 135 sq. ft. than those ending in 1, 2, 3 or 6. They also have lanais (decks) that are twice the size of the other condos. This comes in handy for Sunset and whale viewing and dining on your lania with more than two people. We are at Poipu Shores because of the best views on the water at Poipu, the short walk to Poipu Beach and the quiet and boutique atmosphere of the property. We are very secluded and quiet. Of course, our oceannfront pool is The Place! A building Condos ending in number 5,6, and 7 are situated in a way that the entire South Shore of Kauai, from Poipu Beach to Niihau, is seen from the condos. ending numbers 1,2,3 and 4 condos only have those views from their lanais.
The Unique Benefits at this Condo:
This condo was extensively remodeled in 2007. Slate floors, crown mouldings, new slate master shower and kitchen back splashes. New stone on the lanai. You will enjoy the extra square footage of this condo compared to the 'standard' condos in the A building. We never put more than four people in our home and the quality reflects that concern. The pool, the view, the sound of the ocean is what will bring you back again and again. Almost 20% of our guests are return visitors to our condo.
