We are very impressed with the house layout specially the main floor. The kitchen is spacious and had most of the spices we need, including rice! There's free wi-fi and a computer that we used during the 3 days of our stay. The house is clean, the beds are comfortable, bathroom towels are fresh and white :) The neighborhood is quiet, property has a very nice view of the mountains and conveniently located to shopping. The owners are easy to deal with, refund of deposit is fast too. Our family had a great Easter weekend in this house and will definitely consider renting it again in the future.

Stayed for the weekend - 5 couples with 6 children. Great house, lots of room, very well stocked kitchen. Was raining so we made the most of the kitchen, eating and fireplace area - all one large room that was perfect for socializing while the youngest kids took advantage of the play area. Everyone enjoyed.

Fantastic Surprise Family Weekend!

We rented this space for my family, a total of 20 people, for my father's 60th birthday, and it worked out wonderfully! There were toys in every room, which kept the 7 kids incredibly entertained. The property is very well maintained, and the space is beautiful! I also have to mention how amazing that kitchen was. Anything we needed was there. I can't tell you how many times I overheard someone say, "I love this kitchen!" or "I want to live here." Thank you so much!!!

I stayed in this home as apart of a retreat. I found the home beautiful, spacious and very meditative place to be. Although we did not have any children with us it has great spaces for kits to play and run around. I think my only negative feedback was that I stayed in the downstairs bedroom off the kitchen and found the bathroom at night time quite cold. But I am not sure if we were making use of the heater properly.

The house was clean and well maintained. Quite spacious and didn't feel cramped eventhough there were 10 other people in the house. It was a great location for a women's retreat weekend. I liked that there was an activity jar of things to do. It looked like there were some hiking trails around the house, but was unable to do any hiking because of the weather. We did not have children at the location, but this home was well suppied with toys and activities for children to do and it even has a "hidden" nook for the kids! Books, movies and games were also at this house in abundance. The one thing that I wish this house had was more of a view, otherwise, I thought it was great!

Our company of 14 have stayed in Summerhill place on a New Year - it was a blast! Great view from the house, great bedrooms, very handy kitchen- you can find more than at your own home! Cozy living area with a big TV, perfect play room for kids with toys and games. The property clean and very well maintained. We would recommend this place to everybody!

Such a wonderful Christmas! It was awesome just letting the kids run around and not trip on all of them; also, there was a great play room that was easily accessible that my kids loved! Nice, big bedrooms that fit everyone. we didn't want to leave.

Our group of golfing friends thought this was the best house we had ever stayed in. It was equipped throughout with quality furnishings from the kitchen to the bedrooms. We did all our eating at the house so having a well equipped kitchen was important to us. This place exceeded our expectations. Everything worked and everything we needed was there. We'll certainly try to get back to Summerhill Family Retreat in the future.

The Perfect Family Reunion

Summerhill Retreat was the perfect setting for our family reunion. The large kitchen, stocked with pots, pans, serving platters, and dishware made it so convenient to prepare meals. The large dining room and deck allowed our family to gather and enjoy our meals together. This home is pure joy for young children and parents because of all of the toys and activities available. Conveniently located right off of Interstate 5 and near golf courses and shopping.

My friends and I stayed in the house while playing in a soccer tourament in Bellingham. The house was very well equipped and had more than enough room for 14 adults to spread out and relax. The house is about 15-20 minutes from Bellingham. The house has a very comfortable feel, and has a beautiful view of the surrounding hills from the back deck.

Summerhill is amazing! We needed a central place for family and friends to stay in conjunction with our daughter's wedding in Bellingham. So we had a full house. But it was absolutely perfect ... plenty of space for all, a fantastic kitchen with large table for everyone to gather 'round, and an outdoor deck with an incredible view. That, plus its close proximity to hiking, the water and more, made it ideal for our needs. The amenities were great ... every detail considered. We'd love to come back, and would recommend it to anyone. This was a very important week for our family, and Summerhill took much of the stress out of it!

Our family met for a celebration of our 40th. anniversary, they came from Vancouver and St. John's Newfoundland, Canada. The grandchildren's ages range from 2 - 16. The kids toys and indoor play areas were far beyound expectation. It felt safe, especially being at a dead end. The weather was in our favour and we made full use of the deck tables. The house was clean, and very cozy. THANKS very much for everything.

Great House for a group of 10+

This house was comfortable - we had our soccer team from Maui, HI - We enjoyed eating on the deck when it was sunny while grilling burgers - We also had ample kitchen space to prepare meals for 12 hungry boys and 3 coaches. The kitchen has all the right appliances and untencils to make baking and cooking easy easy easy. The house is clean and with the wood floors it made it easy to clean up after every meal. The beds were all comfortable and the tv room was great for watching the Euro 2012 soccer games. Thanks Doug for all your help / suggestions!

We are a group of friends and family who have participated in the Ski to Sea race for 19 years in a row. We have rented homes all over the Bellingham area and this Summerhill home was wonderful. We have several kids in the group, ages 3-13. The house was perfect for them to safely romp around, play and be kids. The home is incredibly stocked with anything you could need and more. It was clean and comfortable inside and out. What a great stay! Thank you!

Wonderful owners (no relation). This retreat had small kids (toy room / well furnished kid movies) teens (wifi, internet, basketball, etc) and parents (extensive library, open sitting room, deck and kitchen for visiting and preping meals together) in mind. Nice back country feel. Well worth the $$$!

Five families stayed in the house for 2 nights. We all have small kids.. Everyone really enjoyed the stay.. Kids has tons and tons of toys, slides, gates for baby..etc. This owner has carefully selected and organised the house to meet everyones needs. Kitchen has ALL the things needed. The house is very spacious and beautifully designed.. Nice patio. Owner is very easy to work with and very reasonable. We got our deposit refunded back on the next day itself. We'll definitely return back sometime later.

Our big family came together for an extended weekend. We had such a great time. There was plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. We were able to gather in the kitchen/dinning room area, as well as get away from all the craziness when needed. Very easy to find, but in a private area. This home is most kid friendly house I have ever seen. There are games and toys hidden every where you look. Our family would recommend this home to anyone! Thanks for the great memories.

Summerhill was ideal for our family's Christmas outing. All together there are six kids under 5, and it was apparent that kids are as important to the owners are they are to us. The house had a variety of toys and activities for all of our kids (including toys that were not played with because they were for older children), infant to 5. The downstairs is nice and open, allowing the adults to gather in one place or break off into smaller groups, but never feel isolated or cut off from everyone else. We have stayed in a few other vrbo houses, and this is by far the most well-stocked house. You can tell that the owners take great care in choosing items for the kitchen, toy cupboards, bookshelves, etc. What a great experience!

Our whole family spent four wonderful days at Summerhill this Christmas. This is our second Christmas spent there. The house is great-a bed for every family member: the kitchen has everything you can imagine for cooking great meals.It is close to shopping, restaurants, the Skagit Casino,Lake Whatcom-everything is very accessible.Mostly we just enjoyed having enough room for all of us to be together for the holiday! We will recommend Summerhill to our friends!

I rented the Summerhill Family retreat for the weekend of my wedding. It offered an amazing space for my family and in-laws to stay and visit with each other before and after the wedding. We had a great time renting this property over the weekend. The house had everything we needed (and more) and there were tons of toys for the kids. We ranged in age from 5 months to 102 (yes, years old) and we all had a wonderful time. I would rent this place again!

This is an extremely well equipped house, everything from bathroom, kitchen, and bedrooms. And yes, the toys and books for children are amazing. The kitchen is well equipped for a serious cook. Not only that it has everything, it has enough of everything (no short of dishes or utensils). Huge amount of space inside and outside for kids to play. It was clean and everything worked. I don't think any other place can top it. This is really suited for a large family gathering.

Summerhill Family Retreat was truly just that - a family retreat. It was great for our large extended family. Everyone had plenty of space to sleep, eat and relax without getting in each others way. In addition, it was very child friendly! The house was clean and well maintained. Did I mention the incredible views from the deck and hiking trails right out your door. The owners' thought of everything, were well organized, responsive and a pleasure to deal with. It was a tremendous value for the money!

My husband's family converged to Bellingham for our daughter's wedding and Summerhill was the perfect place to "land"! In searching for a house to accomodate us, we knew we needed "child-friendly" and handicap accessible and Summerhill more than fit the bill. As my brother-in-law said, "most places don't like children" but Summerhill embraces them. As our niece's 3-year old who lives in a row house in Baltimore would say "I'm going to the playground"....I'm certain to her the playroom seemed like the playground! The grooom's family rented another VRBO house and had the opposite experience. You had to remove your shoes, as the carpet was white and there were instructional signs all around the house. When they visited us they could not believe how comfortable and friendly Summerhill is! The house is so well-stocked and well-maintained it made traveling across the country a breeze. Having rented many beach houses on the east coast and having to take EVERYTHING from linens to salt and pepper, this was an absolute joy! The owner got right back to us each time we had a question both before arriving and the one time after arriving. We would HIGHLY recommend this house!!

It was clean, the kitchen was well-stocked with appliances, there was wi-fi and cable and lots of bathrooms. :) The kids 7 and under had a blast with the toys. We had 4 families with 8 kids, and found the house to be comfortable and easy to enjoy. Visiting Bellingham was very easy, too.

We had such a wonderful time up at Summerhill. What an amazing place you have! I have stayed in many vacation homes, and this one is by far the best we have ever come across, and certainly the most kid-friendly. You have gone above and beyond with all of the wonderful ways that the home is equipped, right down to the fresh flowers. All of us so appreciated how well stocked the home was, especially the kitchen and all of the items geared towards the kids. We all left refreshed and raving about our time at your lovely retreat. Fun for family, friends and kids

We just spent a wonderful weekend at the Summerhill house. To give you an idea, "we" are 5 active couples with 5 kids, ages ranging from 9 months to 8 years old. The pictures do not do the house justice. The house is FULLY stocked with toys for all ages, as well as a FULLY stocked kitchen. If you like to cook big meals and desserts, this is the place for you! The layout is great, with a wide open kitchen and living space, the play room just off the living space for easy visibility to make sure they aren't getting into trouble. The house is in a perfect spot for runs, biking, hiking, and lawn games. We really couldn't have asked for a better set up, and a great price!

perfect for wedding party!

We stayed three days, and our party was composed of the groom's family from Florida, as well as some uncles and grandparents. The place met our needs, handily, and everyone was so happy. It was convenient to both the wedding location in Bay View and the couple's home in Bellingham. This also made financial sense for us, as hotel rooms for our party would have run as much if not more as the house; and, we'd not have been together, able to cook, etc.

The house is spacious, well-supplied, clean and in close proximity to Bellingham. Cooking and serving a meal for 10 was easy and the house is in a very quiet area. I stayed there with my extended family. The house is even bigger and nicer than it appears in the pictures. Everything we needed was there. You need a sandwich baggie and a sharpie? No problem. The beds were comfortable. There were plenty of extra blankets, pillows, towels, etc. We had several toddlers with us - the house was perfect for them. Many toys and books! I would definitely stay there again. We spent the day sledding at Mt. Baker - what a blast! The property was very clean and professionally managed. A pleasure to do business with.

An excellent vacation property for family reunion or for a big group! Our group have four families each with one to two teens, and each of us had a fabulous time at the house. We especially love the big kitchen - it is so spacious that we had three couples working at "different stations" at the same time and did not have to fight for space :-) The house has everything we want - books, toys, board games, videos and even a play area for little kids. It is close to the factory outlet so those love to shop will never be bored. We would definitely go back and recommend it to our friends.

Perfect Location for a Big Family Thanksgiving

I booked Summerhill for a 4-generation family Thanksgiving 2010 trip. We wanted to all get together and enjoy a few days with one another while celebrating the holiday. This place turned out to be perfect for us! Very spacious, huge kitchen with a double oven and tons of cupboards and counter space, well-equipped for all of our cooking needs, well-stocked pantry, wood-burning stove that made the main family room/dining room/kitchen area so welcoming and toasty and a playroom with lots of fun things for the kids. Our family of four stayed in the upstairs master bedroom, and the walk-in closet was so large that we were able to put our rambunctious toddler's playyard in there and let all of us get good rest, with plenty of room to spare! Plenty of sleeping space for the 10 adults and 4 children we had. It was a lovely vacation!

Our four generation gathering to celebrate the 90th birthday of our beloved family matriarch was made all the more delightful by our stay at Summerhill Family Retreat. The aged nine and under crowd were enthralled by the extensive collection of games, toys, a well designed playroom and totally kid-welcoming space. Preparing a birthday feast in the spacious "to-die-for" kitchen was a pleasure. Kudos to our gracious hosts for supplying everything we could have possibly wanted/needed in a kitchen. Even the October weather was perfect. Excellent value, thoughtfully appointed, easy commute from Bellingham. Five stars, for certain!

It was the perfect house for my family to stay while attending my daughter's wedding. We had four little boys under the age of four and they had an absolute ball playing and discovering the toys and secret cubby hole. This is a wonderful family house, completely perfect for all our families. Perfect for the five children, a paradise for them. They loved the playroom, the secret room under the stairs, the multitude of toys, the space -- very happy children. They will always remember it. This house is wonderful for family gatherings, with an amazing array of toys and play areas for children. My sister, who has many grandchildren, loved the house and wanted to live there forever. The kitchen is generous and well-stocked for those who like to cook. We appreciated having 5 bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms to accommodate everyone. We used the deck mornings and evenings, and enjoyed the privacy and the views. The owners are very safety conscious, very nice, helpful, and responsive. When we reported a problem they addressed it promptly. We had a variety of family members staying together, and everyone was delighted with the place. We all were sorry to have to leave. As always seems to happen in areas where air conditioning isn't usually needed, I brought a heat wave with me, so we made frequent use of the whole house fan, which was much quieter than I expected. The listing photos and description were accurate, and the property was clean and well-maintained. We would heartily recommend this home to friends and relatives.

Summerhill far exceeded our expectations as a home-away-from-home! Adults and kids alike enjoyed all the amenities, not to mention the wonderful views. We so appreciated the extras, too many to mention, that made our stay so easy and pleasant. Thank you for making Summerhill so kid and grown-up friendly.

5 adults and 4 kids stayed at the house for one week for a conference, and found it a great place to meet while we were coming and going. the toys are a fantastic addition, and our daughter found something to play with behind every door, cabinet, and bucket. We barbecued, sat on the deck, and spent time together as a large group after our meetings were over, and the house provided a great place to do this. Each bedroom provides enough privacy for each family, and the large open space in the kitchen area provides a great space for everyone to be together. If we're ever in the Bellingham area again, we'll definitely look up the Summerhill home again. Chris, Lisa, Addison, Brady, Carol, Kevin, Rachel, Paul, Susan, and Abby

My sister and I are both battling breast cancer. We decided to get together for a visit, only my one open weekend before I started chemotherapy conflicted with her house remodeling project and their family needed to vacate their home for several days for sealing wood floors. I checked into flying into Bellingham Washington to take advantage of a great airfare with Allegiant Airlines, from Phoenix. It was such a great deal, we decided to include my parents, my husband and our 8-year old grandson. With my sister's husband, their three kids (boy/girl twins aged 4 and their older brother aged 8) and their nanny, we were a party of 11. We would have probably needed 4 hotel rooms plus a lot of money for restaurants. So we looked into VRBO and found that we could save a lot by renting a whole house instead of multiple hotel rooms, and saved even more by buying groceries and cooking together, which was half of the fun for us! This house was amazing. It had exactly enough bedrooms and bathrooms for everyone to be comfortable, and the toys were numerous and entertained the kids. They enjoyed several of the great family movies on the big screen television, and also enjoyed playing outdoors in the fantastic yard. We all went for nice walks outside, and enjoyed cooking meals together. We had never seen such a well-equipped kitchen! We were all thoroughly pleased with everything this house offered and highly recommend it to anyone, even folks without kids, but especially to families with children.

Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
