This turn of the century mansion is located on the square in historic Chickamauga, Georgia. Chickamauga is a charming and historic small town that has this property at its root. We are located just a 20 minute drive from scenic Chattanooga. From our front door you have the convenience of walking down the tree-lined drive into our wonderful small town, full of antique and gift shops and restaurants. Also, in five minutes you can become immersed in the beauty of Chickamauga Battlefield. A short drive into Chattanooga affords you all that this renaissance city has to offer including the Tennessee Aquarium and the riverfront areas.
Our Greek Revival home, built in 1912, is surrounded by four and a half acres of manicured grounds featuring flowering cherry, tulip, magnolia and dogwood trees with beautiful centuries-old oaks and hardwoods. You can rest on the front porch or walk around the grounds, relaxing in the sitting areas mingled amongst the grounds. Six additional wooded acres in the back of the property offer privacy and seclusion.
Coming up to the front of the house, you'll step up to the rocking chair porch and step back into time through the elegant foyer with nine foot tall pocket doors. Eleven foot ceilings and three-part Palladian windows stretch throughout the house. Antique mantles, Venetian chandeliers and beautiful decor and furnishings are all part of the timeless charm of this property.
The D.A. Jewell House is a wonderful place for a weekend getaway, vacation or family reunion. This property can serve many needs and provide space to make wonderful memories. You will love the handsome furnishings, the elegant and luxurious bedding, linens and towels. There is a sunroom upstairs and downstairs, a library and four separate TV viewing areas (one is in the pool house). There are two media rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, offering HD television and blu-ray disc, cable and Netflix call-up.
The pool and pool house are great sources of fun in the summertime. The pool house has a fully equipped kitchen, furnishings, TV and a bar with marble countertop. Just outside the barroom is a wooden deck with a large gas grill and picnic tables. Our family vacation to Chattanooga was enhanced by the choice to stay at the DA Jewell House. Our group of eleven, including children ranging in age from 5-20, unanimously agreed that this was a fabulous house in which to stay for our vacation. The house is beautiful and the grounds are well kept. The rooms are many, and while we chose to keep our family activities centered in the main kitchen and dining room, there are other kitchens and family areas in the house which could be beneficial for multiple families staying in the house. The pool and pool house were beyond our expectations. Several nights we made use of the grill and pool house for dinner. After spending a day in Chattanooga touring and sightseeing, the pool was a welcome relief for energetic kids as well as a break from the summer heat. The large front porch and rocking chairs were comfortable and we appreciated a quiet spot to converse. The house and the grounds were fun places for the kids to play a great game of "Hide and Seek". Another favorite room in the house we referred to as the "Man Cave"- a large, comfortable room with a big screen TV and bar area. Our favorite spots in Chattanooga included Ruby Falls, Rock City and the Tennessee Aquarium. We enjoyed the close proximity to Chattanooga as well as the Battlefields. Chickamauga is a quaint little town. There are several small restaurants and we enjoyed the little shops, all within walking distance. Groceries were also conveniently close by. The area was perfect for getting out and walking, and the nearby elementary school offered access to a playground that our youngest family members enjoyed. Artie was welcoming and a kind host, very helpful and attentive to all of our needs. We appreciated and enjoyed the comfort of the Jewell House and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling in the Chattanooga area.

Our family vacation in the summer of 2010 was absolutely wonderful. We had Great-granddads, Grandparents, Parents, and children and our entire group of 16 was comfortably accommodated in this beautiful house. The pictures in the website do not do the property and house justice. Every room offered something different, from the books in the library, the television in the front room, the roomy dining room, fantastically appointed kitchens, dreamy bedrooms and huge recreation room. We loved lounging at the pool and the pool house offered great facilities for our cookouts and pool parties together. The owner was easy to work with, more than accommodating, willing and ready to meet our needs. Normally I do not say this, but it is in this case absolutely true - the DA Jewell house exceeded our hopes and expectations for our vacation rental. We will definitely want to return.

We visited the D A Jewell Mansion for a family reunion this past weekend. This house has so many rooms and each beautifully decorated. It's perfect for a large group or family reunion. The home is walking distance from the downtown shops yet you still have plenty of privacy due to the lovely grounds this house sits on. The beds were so comfortable and the house was very clean!! The owner was great to work with as well. Needless to say, this home exceeded our expectations and we will be returning soon.

We had 11 women in the home for a "girlfriend's getaway" and found the home exceeded our expectations in many ways! The home is very large, slept everyone very comfortably and provided a dining room large enough to accommodate everyone. There are multiple living areas allowing all to congregate and also allowing smaller groups or individuals to be on their own (which would make this home wonderful for multiple families and/or families with children). The kitchen was superbly stocked and highly functional despite is small size (and there are, I think, as many as four kitchen areas in the main house, plus another in the pool house). There is more than enough refridgerator and freezer space to accommodate even the largest group for a long time. The pool was well-maintained and clean, and the pool house (with bar, kitchen, bathroom and living area) was also very well stocked for enjoying a day at the pool (no need to go back to the main house). Our experience was SUPERB and I found the owner very easy to work with and very accessible for questions. The home is so wonderful, many of us never left the grounds the entire weekend, but those that did found the surrounding area very nice for a morning run. The home is within very easy walking distance of the local shops and ice cream parlor! If you're wanting a retreat in Chickamauga or want to stay in a large home close to Chattanooga, this is the place for you!

Our family recently enjoyed the D.A. Jewell house for our family reunion. We were all so pleased with the accomodations and all of the amenities availble. The pool and pool house were so nice. We used the kitchen and dining space at the pool house for most evening meals. So convenient!!! A short walk down the lane and you were right among the quaint little shops in town. The younger generation spent a day visiting Ruby Falls and other activities in Chattanooga. The elder of us took a tour of the Chickamauga Battlefield. What a history lesson. One suggestion.....visit the museum before you do the tour. The photos of this web page were exactly what we found upon entering this lovely home, down to the the little doll on the bed upstairs. The private suites, 4 king beds, wonderful appliances and beautiful decor made our stay a great experience.

Our family had a wonderful time in this house and will definitely return. We were traveling with 6 adults and 4 small children (my parents, my sisters, husbands and children) and had more than enough space. It was like each individual family had a suite with a full kitchen. The house and all the beautiful furniture was well maintained and clean. The grounds are beautiful and there was so much space for the children to play. The pool (with a diving board which is a very big deal when you are four!) was crystal clear and the perfect size as was the pool house with a fully equipped kitchen and a new grill on the large deck. The huge front porch, with rocking chairs, looks onto the small friendly town of Chickamauga. Among other stores there is a pizza place, ice cream shop, mexican restaurant, olde time general store and grocery store all with in walking distance. The drive to Chatanooga was not bad, 15- 20 minutes. I think Cloudland State park is not to far away either. We did not get a chance to visit the park but will try to next time. Staying here was very relaxing, memorable and enjoyable. All of us were truly sad when we had to leave and look forward to our return visit!

Our vacation was a dream for our families. The Mansion at Chickamauga was beautiful, a gracious place, and totally convenient for so many attractions. The house and lawn were immaculately kept and the pool house and pool made for refreshing fun. The owner made sure that our stay was perfect. I would recommend this house as the perfect place for family vacations and reunions.

My family and I recently spent the weekend in this beautiful home. The grounds are more akin to a park and the house is set back so far from the road it is hard to believe you are in the middle of a town. The lovely decorations and details on this house make you feel like you stepped back in time. The beds are comfortable and the rooms are large. The house was clean and well equipped with new appliances. The well stocked kitchen in the pool house was perfect for our pool party. The pool area even features a new deck and grill. The owners of this home were fantastic to work with the people of the town were friendly and very willing to give directions and advice. We felt totally at home. We drove into Chattanooga one day to go to the Tennessee aquarium, which took about 45 minutes, and visited the Chickamauga battlefield the other. If you are interested in civil war history at all I highly recommend visiting the battlefield. It has a very nicely maintained visitor’s center and grounds. This vacation met every one of our expectations. We can’t wait to go back!
Owner response:I'm guessing she traveled Rossville Boulevard to get to the Aquarium; a long route which we discourage in our Guest Information Packets. Today's Mapquest and GPS directions send a much shorter route.
