This turn of the century mansion is located on the square in historic Chickamauga, Georgia. Chickamauga is a charming and historic small town that has this property at its root. We are located just a 20 minute drive from scenic Chattanooga. From our front door you have the convenience of walking down the tree-lined drive into our wonderful small town, full of antique and gift shops and restaurants. Also, in five minutes you can become immersed in the beauty of Chickamauga Battlefield. A short drive into Chattanooga affords you all that this renaissance city has to offer including the Tennessee Aquarium and the riverfront areas.
Our Greek Revival home, built in 1912, is surrounded by four and a half acres of manicured grounds featuring flowering cherry, tulip, magnolia and dogwood trees with beautiful centuries-old oaks and hardwoods. You can rest on the front porch or walk around the grounds, relaxing in the sitting areas mingled amongst the grounds. Six additional wooded acres in the back of the property offer privacy and seclusion.
Coming up to the front of the house, you'll step up to the rocking chair porch and step back into time through the elegant foyer with nine foot tall pocket doors. Eleven foot ceilings and three-part Palladian windows stretch throughout the house. Antique mantles, Venetian chandeliers and beautiful decor and furnishings are all part of the timeless charm of this property.
The D.A. Jewell House is a wonderful place for a weekend getaway, vacation or family reunion. This property can serve many needs and provide space to make wonderful memories. You will love the handsome furnishings, the elegant and luxurious bedding, linens and towels. There is a sunroom upstairs and downstairs, a library and four separate TV viewing areas (one is in the pool house). There are two media rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs, offering HD television and blu-ray disc, cable and Netflix call-up.
The pool and pool house are great sources of fun in the summertime. The pool house has a fully equipped kitchen, furnishings, TV and a bar with marble countertop. Just outside the barroom is a wooden deck with a large gas grill and picnic tables. Our family of twelve...in town for a family event...thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were able to entertain for other family members after a trip to the nearby Costco. The kitchen was well-stocked with plenty of plates, table and cooking ware. It couldn't have been better. With all there is to do in Chattanooga, I would consider it a destination in itself. The children loved the historical sites and Ruby Falls. Calling all FAMILY REUNIONS!!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We had a wonderful time at the D.A.Jewell house in November 2012. The house is beautiful - even more beautiful than the photos. Plenty of space to spread out. Large areas for gathering and small areas for privacy. We especially enjoyed the very spacious front porch with rocking chairs. In lovely downtown Chickamauga - lots to see in a short walk, or a short drive, from the house. The owners are great - very easy to work with. I can't say enough nice things about our time here. I only wish we could have stayed longer!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, sightseeing.

We rented the mansion for family members coming from out of town for a weddingthat was just down the block at the Gordon Lee mansion. The location was great, and so convenient. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the bedrooms were very private. It was nice that they all had their own bathroom. I may be missing something, but I couldn't find the actual address of the mansion to enter into my phone navigation, so it was a little difficult to get directions. I ended up using the address of the Chocolate Therapy Cafe, which is a block away and also excellent. The property was clean, well maintained, nicely decorated. and the owners were very helpful. I would definitey recommend this to friends and relatives. The Battlefield of Chickamauga was great, the River walk in Chattanooga is nice, and we also enjoyed the tandem hang gliding at Lookout Mountain.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

My family celebrated our parents 50th wedding anniversay in the beautiful D.A. Jewell mansion. It was everything that the owners described but better. The setting and location of the home is absolutely perfect to give a large group options. The layout of the house was a little hard getting used to at first because it is so large, so expect on getting lost a few times in the house in the beginning. That is a great problem to have. :-) We never ran out of hot water for showers which is pretty amazing and the grounds were just lovely for outside games and grilling down at the pool house. Would definitely stay here again and would recommend to anyone with a large group. Just a beautiful experience and setting, thanks for making my parents anniversary so special.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our family enjoyed the mansion and grounds for a week in June 2012. The property is ideal for family gatherings. During our stay, one of my sons remarked, more than once, that this would also be a great location to spend Christmas. We thoroughly enjoyed the stay and found new things to explore in the area each day. We particularily liked the large front porch that faces the main street through Chickamauga. Each morning and evening we would gather there to visit and have fellowship.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, sightseeing.

The D A Jewell House in Chickamauga,GA was perfect for our gathering of four families. We each had our own suite with bed, bath, sitting room and kitchen. It is a lovely, spacious home and it looks just like what you see in the pictures. With six children ranging from ages 6-16 and seven adults we thoroughly enjoyed the large pool and game room. The children and adults got good use out of the large selection of water toys for the pool. It is convenient to the attractions of Chattanooga and the Battlefield of Chickamauga. Chickamauga is a charming city which we explored and enjoyed talking to the ladies and eating lunch at the Chocolate Cafe.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Our family vacation to Chattanooga was enhanced by the choice to stay at the DA Jewell House. Our group of eleven, including children ranging in age from 5-20, unanimously agreed that this was a fabulous house in which to stay for our vacation. The house is beautiful and the grounds are well kept. The rooms are many, and while we chose to keep our family activities centered in the main kitchen and dining room, there are other kitchens and family areas in the house which could be beneficial for multiple families staying in the house. The pool and pool house were beyond our expectations. Several nights we made use of the grill and pool house for dinner. After spending a day in Chattanooga touring and sightseeing, the pool was a welcome relief for energetic kids as well as a break from the summer heat. The large front porch and rocking chairs were comfortable and we appreciated a quiet spot to converse. The house and the grounds were fun places for the kids to play a great game of "Hide and Seek". Another favorite room in the house we referred to as the "Man Cave"- a large, comfortable room with a big screen TV and bar area. Our favorite spots in Chattanooga included Ruby Falls, Rock City and the Tennessee Aquarium. We enjoyed the close proximity to Chattanooga as well as the Battlefields. Chickamauga is a quaint little town. There are several small restaurants and we enjoyed the little shops, all within walking distance. Groceries were also conveniently close by. The area was perfect for getting out and walking, and the nearby elementary school offered access to a playground that our youngest family members enjoyed. Artie was welcoming and a kind host, very helpful and attentive to all of our needs. We appreciated and enjoyed the comfort of the Jewell House and would highly recommend it to anyone traveling in the Chattanooga area.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Our family vacation in the summer of 2010 was absolutely wonderful. We had Great-granddads, Grandparents, Parents, and children and our entire group of 16 was comfortably accommodated in this beautiful house. The pictures in the website do not do the property and house justice. Every room offered something different, from the books in the library, the television in the front room, the roomy dining room, fantastically appointed kitchens, dreamy bedrooms and huge recreation room. We loved lounging at the pool and the pool house offered great facilities for our cookouts and pool parties together. The owner was easy to work with, more than accommodating, willing and ready to meet our needs. Normally I do not say this, but it is in this case absolutely true - the DA Jewell house exceeded our hopes and expectations for our vacation rental. We will definitely want to return.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We visited the D A Jewell Mansion for a family reunion this past weekend. This house has so many rooms and each beautifully decorated. It's perfect for a large group or family reunion. The home is walking distance from the downtown shops yet you still have plenty of privacy due to the lovely grounds this house sits on. The beds were so comfortable and the house was very clean!! The owner was great to work with as well. Needless to say, this home exceeded our expectations and we will be returning soon.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers.
