We loved Kiawah, and Rand's cottage felt like a home away from home. It has lovely furnishings and every convenience you could ask for from the kitchen to the bathrooms. The bed was comfortable, and having the cottage managed by the resort gave us all the advantages of staying at a hotel. Rand was extremely helpful in processing the reservation, and offered some excellent dining suggestions - we tried almost all of them. The cottage truly is conveniently located and just a short walk to the beach. We will definitely come back in the fall and hope to stay there again. The weather was overcast most of the time we were there, so no tans; but the biking was excellent, and we needed it to work off all the great food. I would recommend a Kiawah vacation to anyone, and this cottage as an excellent place to at to your enjoyment.

We enjoyed an excellent and peaceful vacation during our stay on Kiawah. The deck was wonderful for eating meals and enjoying trees. It was a brief walk to the beach and we rode bikes every day! The pictures accurately reflect what you will find during your visit and the property was clean. The owner was very helpful with the few questions that I had. I felt relaxed and energized when I left...and it was hard to leave. We definitely plan to visit again!

Look no further - this cottage has it all! Ideally located near the pool and beach, with comfortable and stylish decor, this cottage is simply perfect. The pictures/owner's description accurately reflect the home's appearance and amenities - it is exceptionally clean and well-maintained. The owners have spared no expense when it comes to providing a beautiful vacation home. The kitchen is awesome and equipped with everything you need from a simple breakfast to a Sunday dinner. A game table provides a place for cards and the outdoor storage area is stocked full of bikes, beach toys, chairs and boogie boards. One huge bonus is that resort privileges are included with this unit! Although the weather was a little chilly, we still enjoyed walks along the beach, exercising at the fitness center, lounging by the pool, and bike rides around the island. The owners are a joy to work with and made the reservation process a breeze. They take pride in their vacation home and enjoy sharing it with others. Book this unit today - you'll be glad you did!

Not sure where to start, because there is so much to say. Booking process with owners went very well, via phone and subsequent e-mails, and owner went out of their way to try and get us in a day early (traveled early to beat a snowstorm) but the place was booked that night, but at least he really tried.Got to the resort earlier on Sunday than planned, and asked for early check-in, Sadly the people who stayed the night before left a bit of a mess, so it took longer than normal for the maintenance staff to clean, etc. and fix a broken door hinge, but we were able to get into the cottage a few hours earlier that 4p.m., which was good. Took the opportunity to walk on the beach, explore the island, grocery stores etc. The cottage is extremely nice and was very very clean, and basically had everything (one exception - a glass martini glass, did have a plastic one but I'm fussy!) Seriously, the kitchen was fully loaded with all types of dishes, pots, pans etc. - and not the cheapo kind, but real nice plates, fry pans, mixing dishes, utensils, etc. The rest of the place mirrored what the pictures showed on the listing - all the furniture was in excellent shape, the whole place was very neat, organized and comfortable. Two big pluses - TV and Internet. Sometimes I really can't figure out all the remote controls, and passwords for internet, etc etc, but both of those things worked fine and were top shelf. As to the area, we were about a eight minute walk to the beach, so no beach view but we knew that. The street and neighborhood had all the same type of villa's, landscaping was very nice, and the area was quiet - maybe 1 out of 5 villa's were occupied - probably due to the time of year we were there. Bike rental available and you can tool around the island and or ride on the beach, as the sand is the hard type. We don't golf, but 5 really top shelf courses on the island if you are into that. Wife went to the Spa at the Sanctuary, the big fancy hotel about 3/4 mile from the villa - was the best Spa visit she ever had. We ate at a few of the restaurants on the island, which was good, but really took advantage of Charleston food and restaurants. We also explored the plantations, a local distillery, a naval museum, etc - a lot of stuff to do in the area. Sadly, it was the rainiest Feb. ever this year there (4 of our 10 days rain), but we just chilled, read some books, watched some movies, did sightseeing and really relaxed. Overall, the whole experience was excellent!

Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Owner response: Thanks you very much for your thorough review and am glad you made the most of your visit. We will get some glass martini glasses for next time .... we aim to please!

House was nice, rooms were clean. The resort has a lot of shopping/food/entertainment options. A couple of minor issues: a lot of ants in the kitchen, coffee maker was not working, DVD player in the living room did not work, outlet in the master bedroom did not work (next to bed), and remotes in the house either did not operate or were missing batteries. Resort maintenance staff fixed most of the issues but it was just annoying to have to deal with these issues and try to enjoy our stay. With the amount of guests that stay in the cottage I was surprised at them amount of issues we encountered.

Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.

Owner response: Thanks for your feedback - agree those type of things are annoying. I did not realize dvd, coffee maker, etc were not working but they WILL be replaced when we visit in 2 weeks. Pests (ants, bugs, etc) are always an issue in the lowcountry and we have ongoing pesticide service. Maintenance informed me of your issue and took additional steps to mitigate. Thanks for bringing this to their attention. I am glad you found our cottage was nice

My husband and I had a very relaxing week on Kiawah Island. What a beautiful place. I highly recommend visiting in the fall. You have the beach and island to yourself. It was a little chilly, but with the sunshine, it was fantastic. The cottage was very nice. I have a couple complaints, minor ones, but need to be addressed. The ice maker was inadequate to say the least. Also, the internet connection kept going out extremely often. I suspect the modem needs replacing because this happened to me recently. It was quite frustrating and unacceptable. Other than that, the house was pretty nice.

Owner response: Thank you for your feedback. I am contacting phone/internet service to assess the modem. The Icemaker issue is a new one that I need to address when I visit in a couple weeks. We really appreciate your feedback. We strive to make our house the best! Next week we are having new carpet installed in all the bedrooms and new upholstery on all the furniture. We hope you return!

We get our grandkids together for a beach vacation every summer and stayed here for a week in July 2012. The house was clean and the kitchen well stocked. The king-sized bed (which we require) was comfortable, and overall the furniture was comfy but not fussy. The house is very much as advertised--a short walk to the swimming pools (really designed for kids but a good way to cool off) and the beach (and Kiawah has a beautiful, broad sandy beach). My 14-yr. old granddaugher enjoyed the group tennis lessons and the evening activities Kiawah sponsors for teenagers. The house is on a maintenance plan, so when we had minor problems (for ex. the lights on the outside stairs went out) maintenance came out immediately and fixed them). I think if you rent directly from the owner via VRBO, rather than directly from Kiawah, you get a discount. One caution: There is a $14.00 service charge per call for the house telephone, so always use your cell. Overall, a nice comfortable place, and we'd happily stay here again.
