My wife and I have a wonderful, relaxing get away stay in the chalet for 5 nights. I have AT&T and my cell phone reception is not the best, but the provided WIFI work well if you need to keep connected, Livingston is a short 15 minute drive where we get all our food supplies. Pat is very nice to work with and will come back again. KongRecommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much, Kong, for taking the time to submit this nice review. I'm so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your stay. Please consider us for future vacation get-aways. We would look forward to working with you again on arrangements to stay at our little chalet! Kind regards, Patricia

Overall the experience was fabulous! My fiance was very pleased with the fish we caught each time we went out in the boat provided. We did take an extra battery and trolling motor...good thing for that the battery provided would not charge with the charger provided. Alligators came by the dozen!! We saw a 9 foot Alligator and it caught our fishing line and drug the boat for a bit before we were able to cut the line. My fiance is an extreme hunter so this was true excitement for him and also brought great laughter to see my reaction to the occurance. With that said, the house and everything provided was a great pleasure! I do agree that the living room furniture could be updated for that there was not a relaxing spot to watch a TV show and the TV was too high for as low as you had to sit on the worn out sofa. The air conditioners worked great and celing fans all through the house...so it stayed nice in cool at all times. Great place to go!! We would like to thank you Patricia for allowing us to rent your home for the weekend....its a weekend that we will never forget!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We love hearing our renters had a great time during their stay and we genuinely appreciate your taking the time to write a review. The sleeper loveseat that tends to unfold if not put in place properly is being replaced. We are just sorry it was not replaced prior to your arrival. The battery is new, the charger will be replaced and we really appreciate your letting us know it is faulty. Now, the alligator story is quite another thing, entirely. Unless your "extreme hunter" fiance was literally trolling for alligators, we are having a hard time wrapping our minds around your comment, "alligators came by the dozens" :) We've never seen more than 2-3 in the lake since we built in 1980; and, though we are aware that they do venture across from the Trinity river, with a few even making the lake their home, we do not encourage feeding them or trolling for them. The fact that a few do inhabit the area is also the reason we forbid swimming in our lake. With the chalet being located in the Big Thicket which is the home of many different kinds of wildlife, we are priviledged to have an opportunity to enjoy watching them, from a distance We also must remember to remain respectful at all times of the fact that it is their home as well. Thank you so much again for your review and for choosing the chalet for your weekend get-away! Kindest regatrds, Patricia

My husband and I went to the Cozy Slice of Heaven for the 4th of July weekend to celebrate our anniversary. We had a wonderful relaxing time. I really enjoyed feeding all the turtles and perch.. I just wish I wouldn't have taken a bite than feed them a bite ha. I was reading other reviews about alligators - we actually would watch 1 alligator come into the cove around the same time every evening and it was awesome to watch him through the binoculars. As far as the cottage - it was exactly what we hoped for.. I have rented places before and had been disappointed upon arrival - not here.. it was very clean, cool and comfortable. Thanks Patricia & Paula for everything.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much, Stacey, for the great review! We sincerely appreciate your kind words about the chalet and are so happy to hear how much you enjoyed your stay as well. (The alligator you mention sounds like the one and only one I've ever seen that stays way out at the opening of the cove where it joins the main part of the lake.) Congratulations on your anniversary and thank you again for choosing the chalet for your celebration escape! We do hope you and your hubby will want to come back again soon! Kind regards, Patricia

My husband and I and our 2 dogs stayed at the chalet for 2 nites. It was just as Patricia decribed. The pictures did not do it justice. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The chalet was very clean and well stocked. The view was amazing. We were a little dissapointed that the lake was so low, however, that did not stop us from enjoying our fishing from the floating deck! We absolutely will be back again and hopefully the water level will be up. Thanks Patricia for sharing your "cozy slice of Heaven" with us.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Teresa, we are so appreciative of this wonderful review and it makes me very happy to hear how much you enjoyed your stay inspite of the low level of the lake. Just let us know when you would like to come back and it will be my pleasure to acommodate you. In the mean time, could we prevail upon you to please do a bunch of rain dances! :) Thank you so much again and we will always look forward to hearing from you guys! Kind regards, Patricia

This chalet is just fun. The peace and quiet, the beautiful view, made a wonderful relaxing 2 days for my husband and I. All the country critters, birds and water life made for a lot of just sitting, gazing, and pointing and conversing about how nature truly can be teachers . Didnt realize how many different birds and critters lived in and around lakes. I saw my first nutria in person!. We had everything we needed and all the little extra's the owner has added made it that much more special. We wandered into town and found a lot of things to do and shop for there. Love all the antique shops ! We wanna go back!Owner response: Little Miss Redtop, thank you so much for your kind words. We are so thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your stay at the chalet. We'd love to have you guys back any time. Just let me know when and I will be happy to work with you on that. My best, Patricia

It was a nice ride up. We settled in, it really is peaceful. Set up for fishing, putting the minnow bucket in,. Low and behold 2 very large ALLIGATORS. We had been saving for this trip awhile we wanted water, fishing, kayaking, swimming peace and quite. We feel that it should have been noted in this ad. People who have children should know this (big libility dont you think. The living room is uncomfortable, cant sit on couch or chair. Needs a little updateing. And having no phone no cell service seriously. Another problem if their is an emergency. I would say its more like a bed&breakfast. I waited awhile to write this. Felt ripped off.Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Michael, I am extremely sorry you feel ripped off as the comfort and enjoyment of our renters is of utmost importance to us. I've not seen the two large alligators you've mentioned and have not been made aware of them by other renters. The house is located near the river, so, yes, a gator will venture over, but as a rule, they do not come to the house, so I'm very surprised to hear this My cousins and I were there a couple of weeks ago and, though we did see a very small gator on the other side of the road from the house, it was, unfortunately, dead. We do not advertise our lake as a swimming lake and there are signs posted at the entrance that no swimming is allowed. I advise renters of same. Our beautiful lake is a fishing lake. Renters and owners do kayak there. Our website does not advertise a phone line. AT&T cell phones receive good service at the house. Those wtih TMobile have mentioned incurring problems. I do wish you had called with your complaints as we would have done whatever possible to work something out, however, with your extended stay, I felt certain you were enjoying your time there. Again, I am so sorry.

My husband and I just got home and we miss the chalet already! Its location on the water couldn't be better! We sat on the deck for hours. At the table on the deck we played scrabble just for an excuse to be out on the porch. There was great seating which enabled us to move with the sun. The chalet is just perfect and my husband is now talking about getting a new bed cuz he hasn't slept that well in a long time! LOL! We are so thankful we found this place and really want to come back in a couple of months!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Susie, I'm so delighted to hear about how much you and your husband enjoyed your stay! Please let us know when you want to return and we will be most happy to work with you on reservations, any time! Thank you so much for your kind words and wonderful review! My best, Patricia

After much searching, we decided upon this chalet for our relaxing getaway. It was exactly what we were looking for. We spent 2 nights there and spent most of our time fishing and just enjoying being outdoors. The floating deck was very nice but we chose to stay on the banks to fish. We caught lots of perch, even a crayfish!, and saw some large bass and turtles. At night, the swing was perfect to just sit back and swing on and enjoy the lake. The water was low, due to the drought, but hopefully they'll get some rain soon! The chalet itself was extremely cozy, we loved the kitchen where we could cook and look out at the lake. The beds were comfortable and there is a whole bookcase full of books. Patricia is extremely helpful and we truly enjoyed our time and hope to come back soon.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Blair, thank you very much for the wonderful review! We are so appreciative of those kind words and do hope to have you back again anytime!. My best, Patricia

My husband and I stayed for two nights at the chalet for our one year wedding anniversary. It was absolutely perfect! It's cozy, clean, and has almost everything you could possibly need stocked for your use! We had a great time taking the boat out on the lake, grilling and relaxing on the floating deck, and taking in the gorgeous scenery. This place was a dream for us, and we will be back again and again! The owner, Patricia, is so sweet and a joy to work with. You won't be disappointed with this cozy slice of Heaven!! Owner info
Year Purchased: 1980
Why the Owner Chose Ace:
My late husband and I fell in love with the area while visiting friends who owned weekend houses there and, in 1980, we had the shell of the house built . With the help of wonderful friends, we worked weekends building out the interior. The project took about a year to complete and I have many great memories of those times. The chalet became our escape from the hectic weekly pace in Houston. We put heart and soul into building out the chalet! When my husband passed away in 1993, the only way I could rationalize keeping the property was to rent it out to vacationers. I've had the good fortune of meeting so many wonderful people who have rented from me since that time and look forward to being blessed with many more!
The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
Serenity Now!! ;) I feel the stress of every day life and all my cares drift away immediately while driving down the winding road to the property. Taking in God's incredible creation of nature all around is icing on the cake while cooking in my delightful little kitchen with its great view of the lake, fishing, lounging around reading or playing games...just completely relaxing in the quiet and beautiful atmosphere of Taylor Lake! When I get there, I never want to leave!
