Want a truely unique experience? This new home was built from a 200 year old oak barn. The strength, warmth and beauty of this 2000sq ft home is accented by local artists details throughout. We thought of your comfort and relaxation in everything we built into this home. It is also environmentally friendly in that it is off the grid. The roomy open loft bedroom has two areas with a comfy queen bed in each. Enjoy the locally, handmade soaps and lotions while you relax in the large roman tub or the oversized shower.
Quiet and serene, the house sits alone in a meadow, atop a hill, with breathtaking views of 2 mountain ranges. Besides the 8 acres it sits on, it has acres of open land next to it to hike and enjoy the wildlife and beauty but is only 3 miles from town.
The furniture was chosen for comfort. The kind of couches and bed you can just sink into. You could also go through the antique, arched doors to the library, sit on the large window seat and read your favorite book or choose one of ours.
You may catch a peek at our local wildlife coming to get a cool drink.
Just sit and enjoy and let us at the Barn Escape make your visit a lifetime memory!

We loved our stay on the mountain. This home was lovelier than we expected. Our favorite thing was to climb the hill in front of the cabin and get lost in the views - especially the panoramic view to the east. The decor in this home is lovely and appropriate. We had everything we needed - great mountain views even from inside, privacy, and cozy places to lounge and sleep. I have never had a more restful vacation. Maybe the rainbow over the mountains on our first day here was a sign of how great our week would be.Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My husband and I came here from Mich for our anniversary and the house and Karen made it the best we have ever had. The house itself WAS truely unique. We walked in and were just WOWed by the massive timbers. They were beautiful and gave such a warm welcoming feeling along with all the art work around the house. These are the hand hewn real beams not the manufactured ones! It was also a plus that everthing is brand new. The whole house was just so tastefully done down to the last detail. Big,beautiful furniture and the fireplace were so comfortable with a glass of wine at night. The area was full of things to do. Just the hiking out the front door goes on for ever. We found some old mines not too far away. Then we went into Applebees in cripple creek for dinner several times. The fossil beds were interesting if you are a history buff, which my husband is. We also found a reservoir just a mile around the corner, we did some fishing. Got a couple! The view over the valley with the trees turning was just breathtaking, especially in the morning. We missed the peak color by a couple weeks though. Karen made us feel very welcomed and helped us with everything. We were very pampered! The house had everthing we needed. She gave us coffee and teas, along with cheese, breads and some great chocolates. She had handmade soap I especially loved(and bought some to take home)There was also a really CUTE cabin we could have used. We just took a look but didn't stay. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

WOW! What an amazing house. From the time we walked in the door we felt this was special. The welcome we got from Karen, not to say the great cheese and chocolate gifts, made us feel very welcome. The views and hiking are right out the door. We wanted to take the bed home with us it was so comfy! Our vavorite part was a cup of coffee in the morning watch sun rise over the peak.Thank you for making our anniversary sooo special.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

About the owner: I always lived on a farm in the Midwest and one day I came home and told my son ' We can move anywhere.' Colorado is where we ended up. My Dad and I always talked about turning a barn into a home. He passed away so my 2 sons and I did it! I did all of the building from floor, utilities, copper counter top and framing, keeping in mind, I just want to make people forget the rest of the world. To have them come, make them smile and just feel what this building has to offer. There is just something about it. I now work as a Respiratory Therapist in Colorado Springs. My 3 kids are scattered with my son in Denver. My husband and I love to travel. I am always driving him crazy saying ooh that would look great in the barn!
Why the Owner Chose Cripple Creek:
We looked for 3 years until we found this perfect spot to put our barn. The views were the main reason we chose this property.
It is secluded but is only 3 miles from town and an area that gives abundant things to do and see. With open land adjoining it allows you to hike the mountains and streams to your hearts content, then hop into town for a nice meal!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Along with hiking out the back door, Cripple Creek is 4 miles away with shopping, casinos, live theater, restaurants and history museums of the rich mining boom.
Pan for gold or travel hundreds of feet underground at the Mollie Kathleen working gold mine.
Enjoy water sports or great fishing at Pinney or 11 Mile reservoirs within just a few miles.
34 million year old fossils have been taken from the Florissant fossil beds you can explore just 7 miles away.
Rafting, art galleries, shopping or wine tasting are in store just 30-40 minutes away in Cannon City.
The Rotal Gorge railway and Gorge rafting make for a wonderful family adventure just 30 mins away.
Manitou Springs and Colorado Springs are within an hour drive. Colorado Springs airport is just an hour and a half away.
An abundance of things to do, only limited by the imagination!
