We had a wonderful time during our stay from the beginning until the end. Although it was hot outside; with the windows open the breeze blew in and kept us cool. There is plenty of room and all is nicely kept. The view is definitely beautiful, and we enjoyed much time out on the surrounding balconies. We had a very relaxing and peaceful time there. We met Chuck, the owner and his dog lefty. Both are great! Chuck is very knowledgable and helpful and gave us many ideas of where to go and what to see, as well as recommendations of some good places to eat. If you are looking for a nice relaxing place to spend some undisturbed time, this is the place!

The Perfect Place

As a group of 6, 3 couples, this property was perfect. The upstairs bedroom is open and beautiful, with amazing views (this will come up a lot). It has a tons of storage, a comfortable bed and a smaller spare room with a double bed. The balcoly goes around the house with 360 degree views. The balcony also has chairs and hammocks for resting. The main floor is where all the action is. There are 2 bedrooms, both with their own full bathroom. The rooms are ample size for storage and the walls are concrete so they are very private. The living area has a tv with many good channels, there is easy set up for ipods etc too. The kitchen has all the accessories needed and the BBQ is great. The 2 MOST IMPORTANT THINGS: 1. air conditioning - we were concerned as it is hot in Nica, however I cannot stress this enough. AC IS NOT NECESSARY in this place. The wind sweeps through the mountains and keeps the place a perfectly cool temperature. The windows and doors can be adjusted 2. CHUCK - this is the owner, he lived in a small apartment under the house. He was the most connected guy around. Ahead of time he arranged our vehicle, a beat up 4x4 for cheap, airport pickup and weekly surfboard rental. And that was just the beginning. He knows everything about the area and is a willing helper. He is not concerned about hampering your fun, so don't feel like you need to be quiet or minimize your good times. Also he has lefty.....you'll meet him.... Overall, of all our VRBO stays, this is one of the best ever. The house is fantastic, Nica is great and you'll definitely enjoy you time.

Awesome Nicaraguan Experience

Over the Thanksgiving (US) holiday, my adult daughter and I (world travelers) had the pleasure of staying at Hacienda Pura Vista for four nights and five days. The resort owner arranged a very reasonable pick-up service meeting us in Managua that took us to several volcanoes, the old city of Granada, a local market, and a lovely lunch on a lake before arrival at the resort. The driver spoke English and was quite helpful about what to visit, the culture, language, history, products, and people of Nicaragua. After a full day of sightseeing, we were delighted to see the resort, where the sun was setting over the Pacific - spectacular, rich colors with crashing waves below the property as we sipped our "happy hour" drinks. The property is a wedding cake design with separate floors, rooms and bath; each floor has large open air balconies around the perimeter for taking in the panorama of jungle, beach and sea. Our rooms were most comfortable, each with its own three-piece bathroom. The orientation of the property allowed for ample air flow throughout so we were cool, even requiring blankets at night (all linens were provided). The facility is a first-class structure, well-built and maintained, and kept to the highest clean standards. The kitchen had everything we needed to eat in. The owner lives on the property thus available to answer questions and deal with any needs you might have. We loved hearing the lapping of the waves below the house, along with the noises of the jungle that surrounds the property. Drives from the property yielded us views of families of spider and howler monkeys in the trees (they accommodated our picture taking). The owner directed us to some fantastic beaches within 15-30 minutes of the resort, where lessons and equipment was available at reasonable prices. Beaches were not crowded, were clean and offered great surfing. Owner also knowledgeable about good restaurants within the resort plus those in downtown San Juan del Sur, along with information on shopping, other vacation activities (e.g., fishing, kayaking, deep sea snorkeling). The beach was a 15 minute walk down the hill; access also available by road. We have already recommended this to many friends and family members. And my daughter is now talking about a return at Easter!

Paradise!

A truly beautiful place, with exceptional views. The house was immaculate with every facility that you could need for a home from home. Not only that, but every inch of the layout is well thought through. With a side of the house always being wind/ weather free so we were able to enjoy every glorious sunset on the balcony with a ron coca! With Maderas beach within walking distance it was a perfect spot for us surfers. Waking up to an expansive view of the ocean was a real joy. Some really lovely eateries near by (Sergio's pizza!), but also far enough away to really get the seclusion we were after. The kitchen facilities were fantastic, with an amazing grill to host some delicious BBQ's on. Really can't wait to come back, and couldn't recommend this place more highly to anyone.

Hacienda Pura Vista : memorable vacations

The Hacienda Pura Vista villa was highly recommended by a friend for our group vacations and I recommend it myself as well after spending 10 days there. The villa is well maintained, the view is astonishing and the location is great as right in the middle of surf spots and beautiful beaches. But it wouldn't be the same without its owner, Chuck and his little hairy friend, Letfy (a very friendly dog!). The owner is extremely helpful and welcoming and was a great help for us to get around and find the best activities to do during our stay. There is definitely an activity for everyone in Nicaragua and Chuck knows all! We were 8 people in the villas and everyone was comfortable. Recommended for your family or friend vacations, for people that want to leave a little bit of an adventure (roads in Nicaragua are not what they are elsewhere, but very practicable). We also recommend for the most adventurous to rent Jeeps (those we had were very old but so much fun to drive!); they made our trip even more special! Thank you Chuck for the warm welcome! Definitely hope to go back again.

I just got back from Hacienda Pura Vista, a couple of days ago. We were a group of 8 friends who were looking for some good surf and a relaxed villa with an amazing view to just hang out. This was definitely the place ! Chuck the owner is a great host ! He knows everything about the area and will graciously share his knowledge with you, and even teach you how to surf. The villa is very spacious, clean and comfortable, plus the view and the climate are unbeatable and amazingly beautiful. Our friend "Lefty" was the cutest and sweetest little dog !! He was fully aware that his job was to look out for everyone in the house. If you are looking to get away from it all, this is definitely the place ! Our stay at Chuck's place was one of our most memorable vacations ever. I can't recommend enough !! We will definitely visit again ! Once again, thank you so much Chuck & Lefty Pascale

Great Place to Get Away

We have traveled all over South and Central America, but this was my first trip to Nicaragua, and I was impressed. My family spent a month at Hacienda Pura Vista and we all wish we could have stayed longer. It was everything we expected and more. This was a "working vacation" for us. Worked in the morning, beached in the afternoon (or vice versa) and went on adventures when we felt like it. We have two small girls, ages 4 and 6 they loved it, too. The local beaches were perfect for building sandcastles, shell combing and getting knocked around in the surf. The house is open and spacious with amazing views, particularly at sunset. It's off the beaten path (which is a necessity for our family) but within walking distance to two great beaches and driving distance to San Juan del Sur. Chuck was an amazing host, helping us navigate our way around, offering travel tips when asked, helping us find childcare, etc. etc. Our girls loved Tio Chuck and so do we - it was great having the owner on the premises. He was there when we needed him but in no way obtrusive. Also, he has some amazing stories to tell and you will be lucky if you get a chance to hear a few. I truly hope we can make it back one day soon. Thanks for your hospitality, Chuck.

Relax, you are just placed in front of the heaven!

We stayed 5 nights over new year at Hacienda Pura Vista and it was a very nice experience! We have arrived at SJDS late in the evening and Chuck was waiting us where we have scheduled our appointment. When we arrived it was dark and we could not see what we have in front of us but a beautiful sky full of stars was giving us a very nice welcome! The next morning was fantastic, honestly no picture can give an idea about what you have in front of you when you look outside! The location it is perfect, no noise, 100% secure, SJDS it is reachable in about 20 minute (with a 4x4), the house is fully equipped, you have practically everything you need... and very very important you have hammocks to enjoy the ocean breeze and a super barbecue where practically everything could be grilled (specially the fresh fish you can easily buy or fish). Rooms are spacious and with private bathrooms, moreover you have wifi internet and a flat screen tv with lots of DVD... so when you do not want to watch the amazing view you can choose between an enormous DVD collection. Chuck gives tips and information, he knows practically everything and before going asking at SJDS, ask Chuck (and Lefty), I am sure he will always have a solution. So if you would like to have the ocean in front of you, stay in a very natural and genuine environment (you have all the best places around SJDS there) I really suggest Hacienda Pura Vista. Andrea.

I just got back from Hacienda Pura Vista, a couple of days ago, where I enjoyed with my family, my sister's husband and family, my boyfriend and some friends a wonderful stay at Hacienda Pura Vista. We were a big group with a mix of nationalities-Swiss, Nicaraguans, American and Italians and we all felt very comfortable there. The house is located on a great spot, from where you can oversee the ocean and the beaches-Marsella and Maderas. The house is very comfortable, with a lot of space and all commodities you need. The house has many rooms, so it's great for when coming with a big group. Also, if you enjoy sleeping on a Hammocks, in each floor there are a couple of hammocks hanging, and you can just sleep or rest in them and enjoy the wonderful view and the breeze. If you would like to visit the wonderful nearby beaches, the best is to ask the owner of house-Chuck. Chuck will kindly explain to you the best and easiest way for visiting the beaches. Not only explain, but also remove any obstacle for you to reach the beaches :) I hope your stay at Hacienda Pura Vista will be as enjoyable as ours! Thanks a lot, Gabriela

Must read, if I do say so myself

Let me start out by saying that I have been to Nicaragua many times and have stayed in or rented several different homes. I have had both great experiences and marginal ones. First of all the views from the large patio decks can not be beat. The placement of the house was well thought out for both view and wind direction. There is a natural air-flow running through the place that keeps you comfy day and night without needing A/C. Some nights I even turned the ceiling fan off to better enjoy the easy flow of air through the bedroom. I can not emphasis enough how great a stay the 4 of us had on the 2nd floor of this house. Chuck (owner) is an exceptional host. He knows everything about the area and will graciously share his knowledge with you over a rum in his beautifully appointed great room (kitchen that opens into a living-room with 10' ceilings.) We often invited him up from his 1st floor apartment to join us for breakfast, a chance for us to pick his brain before our daily activities. His flat panel wide screen 40-45", I'm guessing, was at our disposal as was his vast collection of movies. Anyway, back to nature. We had no rental car so we had to walk everywhere. 15min to Maderas (great surf, food, drinks). 5 minutes to Marsella beach (restaurants, Chuck delivered his kayaks, hiking, swimming and skindiving.) We got a lot of excursive having no car, but it ended up being no real problem. Chuck even took us to a local market so we could stock up on breakfast supplies and Flor De Cana. Oh yeah, I can't forget a shout out to "Lefty", cute, sweet, and fully aware that his job is to look out for everyone in the house.

I spent one week with my family (wife and two small kids) in Chuck’s house and I must admit that we had wonderful days over there at the Pacific Coast of Nicaragua. The “Hacienda Pura Vista” is very well located and offers a panorama view over the inland landscape, a gorgeous beach (Marsella) and the sea. One can enjoy from Chuck’s house brilliant sunsets as well as the colourful play of the dawn. The domicile is 20 Minutes away from San Juan del Sur, so that it is very quite because of being “out in the sticks” but at the same time well centre gated – even day trips to Granada are possible. With any doubt: You need a car. But even if you haven’t one you can reach the most beautiful beaches (Marsella, Maderas, Majagual) by foot to relax, to swim or to surf. And sure: Chuck offers to his guests any service (day trips, surf classes, excursion) which is possible. The interesting designed house itself is quiet comfortable (sleeping rooms, living room) and well equipped (kitchen): it lives from the open atmosphere of its architecture. One observes that Chuck set value on an ergonomic and integral style that facilitates a harmonic interaction of nature’s surroundings and human’s necessities. For a family with children who is in need of free space, the house and its terraces are a paradise. And Chuck? Well, we found in him a real friendly and responsible host who was interested in all the wishes and ideas we had. Chuck takes care of his guests and is always at their disposal. At the same time he knows how to be around without being too “present” or invasive – we never felt cramped living in the same house with the owner. But if you want to have a “juicy” talk – Chuck is the man (and not Shaft!), can you dig it?! Finally: If you asked me whether I would go back to the “Hacienda Pura Vista” to spend another holiday out there, I could only answer: “Hey man, that’s a rhetorical question!”

Paradise

Five of us spent a week here and our only complaint is that we had to go home. Chuck is a fantastic host -- always willing to help out with his amazing grill, recommend (and drive us to) local restaurants, and even teach a surf lesson. The house is beautiful, spacious (there easily could have been twice as many of us), has amazing views and an easy walk to the beautiful beach down the hill, or a slightly longer walk to a great surf beach. We will definitely come back (we're practicing our surfing at the Jersey shore to get ready).

A perfect getaway...

My friends and I just got back from 10 days at Chucks beautiful home. The location was unreal... only a short drive to town for supplies (aka Tona's) and an easy walk to Playa Marsella. The view from the rooftop patio was second to none, and we all enjoyed watching the whales cruise by in the morning. Chuck was a gracious host and made us feel welcome from the very first minute. He was always there to help us out, whether it was to give us a lift to town, or help us smoke our freshly caught fish. I highly recommend this place for a vacation, and look forward to heading back there soon!

Some friends and I just stayed here in mid-January 2011. We had the BEST trip. The views are even more beautiful than the pictures -- we've never seen a sunset so beautiful. The house really is a hop, skip and a jump to Marsella, which is great for wading, sunbathing and hanging out. It's also a doable walk and drvie to the main surfing beach, Maderas. We found ourselves heading to Maderas early in the morning before the crowds and then checking out other beaches up and down the coast during the day, and then coming back to Maderas in the evening. Chuck (and his dog) are great! So helpful and fun. We did lots of cooking and drinks on the porches. Would definitely stay here again!

Breathtaking Sunsets

Perfect spot for a base for staying in San Juan del Sur. Just a 10+ minute drive to town and walking distance to a great surf beach. We had a wonderful stay with Chuck. My only complaint is that it was too short. The sunsets were amazing from any of Chuck's decks on the different levels of his house. It's a great layout for a large group. We had 9 and didn't feel crowded at all. Chuck (and Lefty) was a very welcoming and friendly host. Highly recommend. I hope to make it back very soon--there's just so much to see and do in Nicaragua. Recommend renting a car and one with high clearance (SUV).

Perfect beach vacation in Nicaragua

Stunning views, beautiful beaches, and comfortable surroundings is what I found at Hacienda Pura Vista. An amazing experience in so many ways! The property is ideal for a couple or a single person wanting privacy, but also large enough to accomodate a group of friends or a family. With the 3 separate floors and large decks on each level, plus the roof-top deck, there is space for personal and/or group time. I plan to return with a group of girlfriends on the next trip. Chuck was a wonderful host and very helpful. I plan to return to this slice of paradise as soon as possible!

Magnificent!!!

I went to San Juan Del Sur and stayed at Hacienda Pura Vista in November 2010 and it was an absolutely fantastic trip from start to finish. San Juan Del Sur is such a beautiful place in itself but to stay at such a comfortable, relaxed and ideally positioned house with such amazing views was the icing on the cake! My week long stay was spent going to the beach; surfing; exploring; reading; eating the traditional food in town and at the little food shacks on the beach; going to the markets; having drinks on the balcony at sunset; and meeting the locals (including monkeys!). It was the best and I can't wait to get back there. Hacienda Pura Vista is within easy walking distance to two beautiful beaches (suitable for surfing as well as swimming); it is clean and tidy and had everything you need for your beach holiday. Chuck is a fantastic host and is a wealth of knowledge about San Juan del Sur and Nicaragua. I'd definitely recommend Hacienda Pura Vista, San Juan del Sur and Nicaragua. Get there!!

Nicaragua Vacation Home, Ocean Front Rental

Hacienda Pura Vista was the best part of our Nicaragua Vacation. The location with the views of the Pacific, and the surrounding jungle was a perfect place to come home to after the beach. The wide verandas and hammock in the breeze is where I spent most of my down time. We stayed in the second floor 2 bedroom, and felt right at home with the open kitchen, and 2 master suites. With 24 hour security provided by Miguel, I felt free to enjoy the silence of the night, outside listening to the waves. We were delighted by the sounds of the birds and thrilled by the howler monkeys. Binoculars and cameras came in handy, as we just could not believe the beauty in and around Hacienda Pura Vista. Nicaragua Vacation Rental and so much more. Owner Chuck Smith lives on site and we felt like family immediately. There is so much to do in the area, we loved Nicaragua, but could not wait to return at days end to this quiet private paradise called Hacienda Pura Vista. We feel so lucky to have found this vacation rental, and enjoyed a safe, exotic, adventure vacation. Nicaragua, Nicaragua, incredible Nicaragua!

Hacienda Pura Vista was beautiful with stunning views...we felt so comfortable there and loved hanging out on the decks overlooking the ocean during the day and at night time, too. Chuck was also very helpful and hospitable. If you are looking for a fantastic place to stay right by the beaches, I definitely recommend staying here! YOU WILL LOVE IT!

Some great surf and smoked chicken!

Went there in mid september for 10 days. We were a group of 8 friends who were looking for some good surf and a relaxed villa to juts hang out. The house was fantastic with lots space and it by far exceeded all of our expectations. Nice and cool even with no AC. Add to that a fantastic host who can smoke a hell of chicken and a little dog named Lefty who adopted him... Cannot recommend enough. Lots of fun and lots of love!

If you are looking for nature, privacy and seclusion, basiclly.....away from it all. This is definitely the place. I had an amazing experience during my stay at Hacienda Pura Vista. The rooms are clean, the accomodations are very comfortable and the view plus the climate are unbeatable and amazingly beautiful. While resting, sounds of surf pounding in the near background brought a calming sense to my senses. Not to mention the host is very personable and kind w a lot of knowledge of water conditions, etc.... I look forward to going back as soon as life allows.

A couple of friends of mine stayed here last year and gave me rave reviews on their stay at Chuck's beautiful home. My family and I were in Costa Rica and realized how close we were to Hacienda Pura Vista. I emailed Chuck to see if he had vacancy while we were in the neighborhood. A day and a half later, we made our way there. The house, the spectacular views of the Pacific / the beaches / the valley / the mountains / the volcanos in the distance, the constant breeze, the gracious hospitality and the food all exceeded my wildest expectations. We were fortunate enough to see the monkeys that stay near the house. The food and service at the Mango Rosa (just down the hill) was great. The pictures I have seen do not begin to capture the true beauty and ambience of this place. Chuck was even kind enough to play tour guide for us during our stay. Our only regret was that we did not have more time to spend here. Our side trip to Nicaragua and Hacienda Pura Vista were truely the highlight of our vacation. We will definitely be back!!! Thanks so much Chuck for squeezing us in on short notice!!!

Greatest Vacation ever!!!

My family and I went to Nica over Spring Break this year. We stayed at Chuck's House and it was amazing!!!! . The house is beautiful, (looks just like the pictures) comfortable, clean and has the most incredible veiws. The house has the large, wide porches with hammocks, great for reading and napping. CHUCKS House sits up high and so you always have a breeze. But my personal favorite is the location!!!!. It was a walk away from the swim cove, with the bluest water in the world and a short ride to the surf beach. We did rent a car which we drove all over and into town. Our favorite restaurant was (by far) the Mango Rosa, just a minute from the house. The food was so good, cold beer, they have a pool and Surf Lessons from Johnny, that was fun!!!! ENJOY It is so worth the trip.!!!

There is no other place in this Earth where Hershley chocolate would taste better, where sunsets and sunrises would be splendor, where little rounded stones of the concret would smile at you more, where a refreshing brise would caress more your face while laying in your bed...These are my very best memories of Hacienda Pura Vista. We stayed for 5 nights on the 2nd storey of this fantastic house. There are awesome views of Playa Marsaella, San Juan del Sur and surrounding areas. The accommodations were clean, spacious and comfortable. All the amenities of home. We enjoyed lobster take out from the little restaurant down below on many occassions (Concha). We would recommend it to anyone.

Where do you start with a place like this. After traveling for four weeks with three young children through costa rica - we needed somewhere to relax to celebrate a 11 year old birthday, christmas and new year . We found it here, quite by accident. The Hacienda is also known in San Juan Del Sur as the House of Verandas. After the dusty and pot holed drive from SJDS we came up the hill to see our home for the next 10 days - High on a peninsula above the beaches of Medera and Marsaya - the 360 degree views are breathtaking from the puffing volcano,verdant hinterland and the Pacific Ocean. l Chuck the owner could not have been more gracious and welcoming. During our stay we cooked up a feast every night in the well equipped kitchen, drank Flore de Cana- rum on the roof top and saw many sunrise sunsets and moon rises. If you are lucky to experience a Nica New Years Eve and see the "burning man" explode - remember to take cover ... our other experiences include surfing, walking to the extinct lava flow into the ocean and assisting with 70 turtles being hatched and set free into an ocean on a full moon. We cant recommend our experience here enough - and we will be back ! Thank you so much Chuck for having created somewhere that we will have amazing memories for ever! nicki and david

absolutely the most beautiful spot anywhere nearby. super convenient to great surf spots (such as Maderas which is less than half a mile away), San Juan Del Surf, Rainforests, etc...Plus, super friendly, private, and comforting atmosphere...I'd definately suggest!!!

the facilities in the kitchen ,setting ,,ambience,all make for an unforgettable location to create the food of your dreams .i came for the world class surf but found myself wanting to spend all afternoon in the kitchen cooking up a storm.Now that chuck has completed the instalalation of his masterpiece 4 stage outdoor BB,griller,oven and smoker for anyone who loves to cook and surf their days away i would give this place a 6 , its off the scale.Just quietly chuck has a few secret recipes of his own. thanks chuck for making our time with you special david and family

This beautiful home is by far the most accomidating location in the area. It's breath- taking views are, in my opinion, the most beautiful views of the pacific ocean. Easy access to San Juan Del Sur, and some of Nicaragua's best surf spots (Madaras is about a quarter mile away)...great place to experience Nicaragua
