I stayed for almost a month in that charming lodging. I was staying at Whity Gate for business reasons but I almost felt I was on vacation. The apartment is very cosy but a little bit small for two people I guess. However, as I was alone I felt very comfortable. It was a thousand time more fun (and cheap) to stay there rather than staying at the hotel. As the apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, I was able to cook whenever I wanted. Feeling for restaurant instead? Several good restaurants were from walking distance to Whity Gate. Grocery store was accessible by foot as well. The owner was really nice and friendly should I need anything. However I didn't call her very often during my stay because everything was readily available, including shampoo and dishwasher detergent :) The area is gorgeous with mountains everywhere, a lot of hiking trails, abundant flora and fauna! If you choose to stay at Whity Gate, get ready for great vacations!

Owner response: Thanks, Stephan, for staying at Withy Gate. Looking forward to meeting your family when you bring them out to see the Bitterroot Valley!

My wife and I vacation in the mountains of North America every summer and have done so for over 20 years. We've stayed in virtually every type of accommodation available, from tents and trailers to luxury homes and condos, so we have a realistic appreciation of quality and value based on huge experience. This fabulous little unit lives up to the description and is perfect for a couple. We were very comfortable there and would rank it as one of the best places we've stayed in over the years in terms of comfort, facilities and value for money. It has a great little kitchen, good (shared) washer/drier facilities and a homely location in a quiet, residential part of town. The owner was extremely helpful, friendly and responsive to all requests and queries from the start and made sure we felt at home. The photographs posted on the VRBO site give you an accurate reflection of the ambience of the cottage and the amenities available. Everything was clean, well-maintained and in perfect working order, plus some nice personal touches. For us, Hamilton was a great place, not too big yet big enough to have all the facilities required on a self-catering vacation. There are lots of reasonable eating places within walking distance of the cottage, good grocery store facilities, an excellent book store and a good information centre staffed by really helpful people. From the middle of town you only have to drive a short distance to gain access to hiking trails that will give you a memorable experience of the Bitterroot Mountains. Our stay in July was rewarded with fabulous mountain wild flower displays, glorious scenery and occasional views of bald eagles over the Bitterroot River. We would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for lodging in this part of the USA. It would definitely be our first choice in this area in the future

When we arrived at Withy Gate Cottage we were greeted by Kris, she rode her bike to the cottage to give us the 'tour'. What a wonderfully tranquil haven. We were visiting family and had our own spot to unwind at and we enjoyed quiet moments together on the patio. Our family and friends could not believe we found this rental in Hamilton...they have never used VRBO, but they are now believers. Kris, we appreciate every special amenity you provided. Your personal decorating touches make the cottage seem like we were staying at a friend's home. The linens, handmade soaps were wonderful. And knowing you were just a call away gave us peace of mind. Thank you.

My husband and I, and our dog, recently stayed at Withy Gate for 2+ weeks. We found this property to be as described and photographed. It was exceptionally clean, tastefully decorated and furnished. The owner included personal welcoming touches such as "Helpful Things to Know", fresh fruit, flowers, and a kitchen outfitted with more items than my own home!!! Books, puzzles, games, and many CD's were also provided. Only Withy Gate provides lilacs blooming outside the bedroom window! The owner was very attentive, and bent over backwards to meet our needs. We enjoyed being close enough to walk to River Park, as well as the Farmers Market. We were sooo comfortable, and very much enjoyed our stay. We would highly recommend Withy Gate to others, and in fact we plan on returning in the future.

My last two stays at the Withy Gate have been excellent. The house is always warm and inviting; making the place feel very much like home on long trips for work. The place has a well-stocked kitchen for all your cooking needs. And the owner goes out of her way to make your stay and the place memorable. Highly recommended.

My husband and I stayed for 5 weeks while we were waiting to get into our new house. Everything you need was available and it was quiet and in a nice neighborhood for taking walks with the dogs. We enjoyed our stay and will recommend it to friends and visitors from out of town. Very clean and organized and our hostess was very helpful when we had any questions. NICE!!

I stayed at Withy Gate for 4 months July through October. I stayed in half of the duplex which was very clean and had all the comforts of home. It is in a quiet, pretty neighborhood easy walking to downtown, restaurants, grocery stores and coffee shops. There is a Farmer's Market 3 blocks away every Saturday morning throughout the summer and early fall where you can purchase fresh veggies and fresh baked goods--cranberry/orange scones were my favorite. There is a patio that is great for morning coffee and when fall came a gas fireplace to sit in front of and look out the window at all the fall leaves. Had a fun relaxing 4 months enjoying all the activities of a small Montana town. Kris is wonderful. She is very knowledgeable about the area and is only a telephone call away if you need anything.

We had a wonderful, wonderful time renting this sweet, precious cottage surrounded by daily new floral buds to greet us every morning and night!! The cottage is immaculate and beautifully decorated with such thought and care for requisite comfort. We adored the sleep number bed so, so very much--- and to discover a laundry room??? The owner had just re tiled the bathroom and it was a joy to luxuriate in the bathtub... Walking distance to everything was a plus--- as was the air conditioning on hit days.... I give this 5 glowing STARS--- it was filled with such artistic comforts and thought out graciousness ---- do not hesitate to live here, for a sweet vacation!! Alicia and Arianna from Santa Fe NM

From the delightful garden and patio-with-grill outside to the all-new kitchen, crisp bed linens, shabby-chic furniture and hand-picked accessories inside, this clean little rental -- half of a duplex -- has been the best way yet that we've seen the West! We like to hike many mornings, then come back to lunch or a nap -- or both -- before going out to dinner somewhere new in Hamilton. Kris' rental unit has been the cool, clean haven that we've needed. The neighborhood is charming and quiet, just like the rental, which comes complete with WiFi, cable TV and baked-from-scratch cookies on the first night. We've seen the other unit, too, since friends will be here soon to join us. It is larger, with a working gas fireplace and newly tiled bathroom, and its look is right out of some boutique hotel's version of the West. I'd recommend either of these units to adventurous couples who like a little luxury as well!!

My husband and I stayed here for a weekend and found the experience a most enjoyable one. We liked how this small and impeccable cottage had everything in it that one would need to spend a comfortable weekend. The lush towels, the whimsical decorating appointments, the incredibly well-tooled kitchen all added to the pleasure of the stay. Plus...the owner is genuinely concerned that the guest have a wonderful stay both at her cottage and in her town.

              Owner info

              Year Purchased: 1999

About the owner: I was born and raised in Seattle and first visited the Bitterroot Valley in 1979 when a girlfriend invited me to go home with her for the County Fair. I fell in love with this landscape and knew I would one day live here. After many more visits, I moved to Hamilton in 1999. Withy Gate was my first home and I loved being able to walk out in the morning and see the mountains or walk to the river or for a cup of coffee with friends. I now live about a mile away in Grantsdale where I am restoring a 1890-1930's farmhouse and outbuildings. I enjoy sharing Withy Gate and the Bitterroot with my guests and look forward to helping connect you to the best of the Bitterroot.

              Why the Owner Chose Hamilton:
Withy Gate was my first home in Hamilton and when I purchased a slightly larger place I found I just could not part with it and so decided to convert my lovely duplex into a vacation rental so that others could enjoy it, too.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
From Withy Gate, it’s an easy walk to Main Street, Hamilton where you'll find restaurants, a great bookstore, banks, shopping, and the post office. There's a history museum and several neighborhood churches. A local grocery store—with espresso stand—is just two blocks away. The private front yard, with patio furniture, umbrella and gas grill is perfect for outdoor summer living. It’s a short walk to the Bitterroot River and River Park where there is an extensive trail system. Completely updated and super clean, this cozy space is ready for you, your home away from home.
