Relaxing Beach Fun!

Guest: Bonnie (Madison, Alabama, USA)
Date of Stay: 12/17/11 Review Submitted: 01/07/12

We rented out both upstairs and downstairs units. When we first arrived, the owner and his helpers met us. They were very responsive to our needs. We were a little put off by the vestibule. It smelled like mold, and the entry door was dirty (soon after cleaned by my husband). But the rest of the house was reasonably clean. The house had one less bunkbed than advertised, but a single bed was graciously given us within 30 minutes of our request. We were also supplied with card tables so that all of us could sit together in the upstairs dining room. Here's the lay of the land: The upstairs table accommodated ten while the downstairs table accommodated six. The upstairs kitchen was smaller than the downstairs and didn't have a garbage disposal, but both included dishwashers and were well stocked with lots of dishes, pans, and silverware. Both upstairs and downstairs units had two couches, several comfortable chairs, and lots of dining table chairs. Both units have W/Ds although the downstairs unit wasn't working well. Premium cable was installed just that day (with internet offered in one location and no WiFi). There were three BRs downstairs with two of them having the only bathrooms available--pleasant for the ones staying in those BRs but a little inconvenient otherwise. There were three BRs upstairs as well with only one of them having a bath. The other bath was shared. We didn't use the above-ground pool outback, but I'm sure guests would take full advantage of it in warmer months; it looked well maintained. Palm Blvd. is a tad busy right there--even at Christmas--but it really is a short walk across the road to the beach. And what a beautiful beach it is! Overall, the house met our needs and was really quite comfortable. I would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could.

Can't wait to stay again & looking at staying for longer period of time next year

Guest: Amy (Chesterfield, VA)
Date of Stay: 07/31/10 Review Submitted: 08/15/10

This is the second year in a row my entire family has stayed at this property and it has been absolutely wonderful. The first year there were 16 of us and this year there were 17. Everyone had a bed to sleep in and/or pull out sofas. With the house being split on two seperate levels it made it wonderful for those with the young kids to be on one floor when it came time for bed and the adults who chose to stay up could enjoy late nights without worrying about waking the children. Having two full kitchens to work with was also a plus when cooking large meals. Can't beat the direct access to the beach. Literally directly across the street. The kids loved being able to come back to the pool after long day on the beach while the adults were fixing meals. Closed in outside shower definite plus for not tracking sand inside with us. Great screened in porch upstairs with picnic style table for additional dining area in addition to chairs and a swing. Grocery store just around the corner (about a 10 minute walk, if that). Washer and dryer both in both upstairs and downstairs units made it great for not bringing home 10 extra pounds of sand and dirty clothes. Bath and kitchen towels and bed linens provided so a few less things to have to pack. Owner checks in to ensure everything met to our needs. When we found a light bulb out in the bathroom and let them know, within a couple hours, the lightbulb was replaced. Ping pong table in downstairs screened in porch had been damage by prior renters and owner repaired it while we were there to ensure our enjoyment as well. DVD players were great for keeping kids occuppied on rainy day.

My family and I had a wonderful week at this beach house. We met the owner who made us feel so welcome! The location was great! You walk across the street and you are on the beach. You walk a short way on the beach and you can shop or eat at restaurants. We highly recommend that you eat at Coconut Joes. It is right on the beach. The house was great too. We had a porch, plenty of space to play games, TV, pool, all the amenities of home, especially the washer and dryer. As wonderful as the beach was it was great being near Charleston and having the opportunity of seeing this beautiful city. We highly recommend this house. We have even booked it again for next summer.

Wonderful Week at the Beach

Guest: beach chick (Goose Creek, SC)
Date of Stay: 07/10/10 Review Submitted: 08/07/10

My family and I stayed here for the week of July 10th and had a wonderful time!!! The beach house was very large and spacious enough for four families to stay comfortably. It is an older home, but it was kept up very well. The two kitchens came in very handy for us. That was a definite plus! All of the living spaces were clean and nice. Our family loved having the opportunity to swim in the pool. We loved swimming on the beach, but sometimes the pool seemed more appealing. The owners of the home were very nice, we were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to meet them. This was a wonderful experience and our family is looking forward to coming back to this beach house again next year (we've already booked it)!

not what I expected

Guest: shy town mom (chicago IL US>)
Date of Stay: 08/01/07 Review Submitted: 12/26/07

The house looked unkept, the yard was overgrown. when we parked we went to look at the pool. It was dirty and there was green mold growing in it. There was a leek in the hoses and the water was constantly draining and had to be refilled. the entrance to the house was filthy. The paint was white but I was afraid to touch the door as it was black with filth, the walls were black with filth. The cleaning crew was in the house and the refridgerator was nasty. There were black marks on the walls and the ceiling. The couch in the bottom was broken and couldnt be slept in. The dryer in the upstairs unit was squeeking so loud that we couldnt stand to use it and be in the house. We were never informedf that it was two separate units and that there was no way to get from the bottom floor to the top without going outside in the bugs and heat. the porch light was out so there was no light on the porch till the owner came to fix it. there was no furniture in the bottom porch. Some of the fans did not work either. There was no address indicator and we only saw an address on a garbage can when we went to to a u-turn. we had a hard time getting the pool cleaned at all during the week. We found a scorpion in the bottom floor. There were giant spider webs on the outside with huge spiders at night.it was dirty and in ill repair. pool had no privacy and was a small above ground pool instead of the inground pool that I had visioned .

Owner response:Thank you for your review. As you mentioned, the cleaning crew was in the house and in the process of cleaning from the prior tenant. Some tenants can really be hard on a home. Towards the end of the very busy summer months these rental houses get a great deal of wear and tear. Many of the comments you mentioned are costmetic and were dealt with in a quick and efficent manner. The owner has been renting his homes for many years. He lives nearby and is very responsive when the need arrives for immediate repairs or needed supplies, such as the light bulbs. It is stated in the ad that the pool is above ground as well as the size.
