Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
Twenty years after leaving his home in Cancún for hers in California, owners Michele and Enrique Padrón finally realized their dream of owning their own place in Mexico when they purchased Casa Pacifica in mid-2004. She is a musician and teacher, he works in stained glass when he is not busy with his business as a glazing contractor. Constructed during 2002/2003, Casa Pacifica was originally the dream house of Miguel Arroyo and Alicia Velastegui who planned to retire there from Guadalajara when health problems forced them to change their plans. We try to visit at least once a year to upgrade our house, gradually adding things to make it feel like our home. Someday, we hope to live there, perhaps year-round though Santa Barbara and our children are likely to keep us rooted in California. Casa Pacifica contains the passion and vision of its former and current owners. We gladly share these with you.
Why the Owner Chose La Manzanilla
After many years traveling and exploring a variety of locations in Mexico, we chose La Manzanilla for the unique blend of qualities that it contains. Like Goldilocks and the Three Bears, it's "just right". We still to visit other locations, using La Manzanilla as our base, but we have yet to find another community that has the unique chemistry we found there. The list starts with the warmth of its people, the growth of a cultural identity as a bilingual town where tourism becomes a two-way street, contributing more than just dollars to the local economy. Examples of this range from a non-profit foundation and are visible in the way the town has grown. Of course the weather is a big factor, and the abundance of Tenacatita Bay. The location is relatively convenient, we like to say, eight hours from door to door, including the flight, renting a car and drive to and from the airport. The waves are gentle as are the breezes. Fresh fish is always available as are fruits and vegetables. A walk down the main street brings numerous greetings. After twenty years of looking, we took the leap and we only look forward to when we will return again.
The Unique Benefits of this House
When we are home in La Manzanilla, the world we left behind us recedes and life takes on a different pace. Of course we love to zip down to the beach before sunrise to take an early morning walk. Then preparing breakfast is a slow dance, and the feeling that there is nowhere to go becomes the joy to sit and relax with a book. When we get restless, we'll drive around to Tenacatita or up to Chamela. We are always exploring, we have driven down the coast of Michoacan, into the mountains and wandered the streets of Colima. Evenings we'll stroll the jardin and eat tacos while we watch the families promenade.
