Absolutely Stunning Penthouse

  We booked this apartment for a 16-day stay and were very disappointed. The day we arrived, it was raining and we were greeted by a very friendly lady who identified herself as the property manager. She took us inside, collected our money and showed us around. This is what we found inside the apartment: The walls inside the apartment were seeping rain water through peeling paint; The entire apartment smelled damp and musty; The upstairs toilet was broken; The kitchen is not someplace we would want to prepare food; The sliding doors to the balcony don't lock; and there is not a King size bed. The bed is a full size, even smaller than a Queen size. We lodged complaints and the owner was very professional and apologetic on the phone. The money collected from us (cash) on arrival was refunded to us immediately by the manager, though she kept from us a portion of our money which she said was a "non-refundable fee" for her time to meet us at the apartment. When we booked the unit, we paid the security deposit by credit card and as of today, five months have passed and the owner has still not refunded this money to us or the fee kept by his manager.

  Owner response: The pictures of the Penthouse on VRBO are very accurate and show precisely the apartment. Just recently a professional chef stay there and loved the place including the kitchen.... There was unusual heavy rain in the city and indeed some humidity on a wall however the apartment was clean and in good checkin condition which was also confirmed by the checkin manager. The airconditions in the Penthouse would surely have have taken care of any remaining humidity in the apartment. Nevertheless, trying to be understanding and reasonable i agreed with the rental party to a partial reimbursment which was obviously not appreciated which is unfortunate as i didnt experience any negative feedback before as this is a very nice and stylish apartment in one of the best neighboorhoods of the entire city.

  The Good - The owners were a pleasure to deal with. The brother of the owner bent over backwards to make sure we found the apartment and got settled in. Room sizes were ample, the balcony was delightful. The apartment is conveniently located for grocery shopping, laundry, coffee houses and restaurants. We found the neighborhood to be safe; we were often walking back from dinner at midnight and never encountered a problem. The less than Good - While the bed was very comfortable, the bedding itself needs to be replaced. The upstairs bathroom and the kitchen were not clean. We found the kitchen not conducive to cooking so we ate all our meals out (not a bad thing in BA). We had to purchase our own cleaning products including soap, sponges, dish towels and trash bags. The upstairs air conditioner did not provide cool air and it was a bit too noisy on weekend nights to leave the windows open resulting in a hot bedroom. Overall, the apartment had more wear on it than shown in the pictures - some putty and a paint job would restore it back to excellent condition.

  Recommended for: Sightseeing.

Unfortunately the upstairs aircondition broke down during a heatwave and we ordered and installed an additional aircondition for the upstairs bedroom. I hope the additional fan helped a little. We have also changed our cleaning person and will have the apartment painted. Thanks again for your feedback .

  Yes, it is absolutely stunning: well decorated and well furnished. Two large sliding glass doors provide access to a spacious balcony with impressive views. Great location close to major streets, shops, green grocers, restaurants/bars, subway, and plenty of economical taxis. Owner Kay and Mario are responsive and easy to work with. Buenos Aires is a wonderful city to visit and this porperty is a joy to come "home" to.

  Recommended for: Romantic getaway.

  This secure, well-furnished and well-located residence was ideal for us - a couple spending a month in Buenos Aires. What a treat to wake up in the morning, use the remote control to raise the black-out shades and see the sun streaming into the apartment. Another plus was the comfortable terrace. We also liked the idea that this was the only unit on the floor, so when the elevator door opened, you felt as though you were "home." It also meant that there were no noisy neighbors to contend with - just the noisy streets of B.A. Perhaps the best news of all is the fact that the owner couldn't have been more attentive or accommodating - even long distance. Note: It is really only 1.5 bathrooms. The bathroom on the first level of this duplex does not have a tub or shower. Also, the stairs to the upper level/bedroom/full bathroom could be a tad daunting (at least, at first, for seniors). Restaurant tip: Sette 7, around the corner, for dinner.

  Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.
