Casetta felt like an escape and some tranquility

Guest: Lou & John
Date of Stay: 05/19/12 Review Submitted: 05/25/12

Florence is a mad bustling city but this Casetta felt like an escape and some tranquility when we needed it. Maurizio is lovely and showed us everything we needed and got us settled In well. Also thank you for the little touches around the place that made it feel like home. The red wine and little treats we're muchly appreciated. The Casetta is homey but perfectly functional. We ate here at least once every day. The kitchen has everything you could ever need for meals while on holiday. To sum up as I am waffling. Did we enjoy our stay here.. Yes.. Would we stay here again equally yes. Negatives.. Well it can be a little noisy but that's what you get if you want to be in the thick of it all.. Again thank you both and extra thank you to Lisa at Italy Perfect who was fab.

Our accommodations were lovely.

Our accommodations were lovely. When we arrived, the greeter took the time to tell us the history of the home, gave us directions to make a perfect cup of espresso and told us where to dine and shop. There are maps and tour books in the apartment. The best part about traveling during the first week of January ... holiday lights decorate the streets! (and less crowds). We would definitely recommend Italy Perfect to a friend. We plan on returning to Casetta Bonsi very soon!

Wonderful Apartment in Florence

Date of Stay: 10/22/11 Review Submitted: 11/28/11

The home was more beautiful than pictures did justice. The home was spotless upon arrival. Complete with a welcome basket, fresh flowers, and a bottle of wine. It was as picturesque as I had hoped. The location was excellent. We were walking distance to many attractions (Uffizi, Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, etc.) and many restaurants of all kinds (gelato, pizza, self service, traditional resturants, up scale seafood restaurants, etc.). When I say walking distance, I mean 3, 5, 10 minute walks. If you are not a city dweller, I recommend ear plugs. The location is very quiet compared to many spots in the city, but if you aren't used to noise at night just bring ear plugs. Otherwise, this was a great place for our stay in Florence. I would go back in a heartbeat, and recommend it to our family and friends.

Everything about this charming home is perfect. The location in Oltarno is ideal. Much quieter than across the river but easily accessible to everything. If we ever get back to Florence, we would definitely stay here again.

One week of bliss in Florence! We have just returned from a magical month in Italy. The highlight was definitely our week in Florence. Casetta Bonsi was in an ideal location, literally 100m from the Ponte Vecchio. We walked everywhere, shopped at the local supermarket, found a new gelateria just around the corner, ate with the locals on 'our' side of the Arno & couldn't have been happier. The house has everything you could ask for. Maurizio contacted us during the week to check that all was ok. We arrived to find a bottle of wine, biscuits, fresh flowers & a few basics. A very gracious host!

Just a note to tell you everything was perfect at Casetta Bonsi. It was, as always, beautifully presented. Achille and I had a wonderful month in Florence. The Casetta is so perfectly located. It made all our travels so easy.We went on a tour of the Chianti region with Maurizo. It was a very pleasant day, such incredible beauty. We took trips to Fiesole, Lucca , Assisi, San Gimignano, Siena. I am really homesick for Italy !Thank you for your assistance in making our trip so perfect. [Thank you for your repeat business, we hope to welcome you back to again next year. (Clients' 2nd stay at Casetta Bonsi). Lisa Italy Perfect]

The best of Firenze

Every positive point by previous reviewers is seconded by this senior couple who spent ten wonderful nights at this "small" house. You will find Maurizio most friendly, helpful and responsive to every need. While the first time walking up the hill to the house seems daunting (especially to Floridians who never see hills at home) you are rewarded with the comforts of the house and soon forget the steep grade. There is everything you might need in the house and the photos provided are a mediocre substitute for the real thing. It is spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Owner response:We are so pleased these guests enjoyed their stay! Regards, Lisa, Italy Perfect

We spent part of our Honeymoon in Florence 30 years ago and this was our first trip back and our stay at Casetta Bonsi was perfect. We were promptly and politely met by Maurizio who could not have been more informative and charming. There was a welcoming basket of fruit, wine, delicious cookies and candy. The house met all our needs and was immaculately clean and smartly furnished. All the restaurant on the recommendation list we tried were enjoyable. Would return in a heartbeat.

We had a perfect stay in the cozy Casetta Bonsi. Maurizio was a delightful host who has taken great care of this special house. We cooked in several nights and found everything we needed to relax and plan the next day's adventure. Leave your guidebooks and novels at home. The small library includes all the references you need to find your way through and around Florence. The location is perfect - away from the crowds, but close to everything. We would return in a heartbeat!

From the minute Maurizio met us at the Casetta with wine, cookies, fruit and flowers, we knew this was the place for us. Spent a little over a month in a comfortable, well located, historical surrounding. There were groceries, bakery, gellatti, restaurants all within a few minutes walk. Ponte Vechicco was less than 10 minutes away making the center of Firenze about 15-20 minutes walk. The Casetta was spotlessly clean and well equipped with kitchen needs. We hired Maurizio as a guide one day to travel through the Chianti /Tuscan countryside and he was a knowledgeable, interesting guide. "Discovered" a wonderful wine bar with great home cooking across the Pitti Palace Piazza called GOLA PITTI E CANTINA. Tell the guys that Mark and Ethel sent you. From start to finish, Lisa and Italy Perfect and the owners of Casetta were molto bene.

Casetta Bonsi was a great location and a perfect fit for the four of us. You couldn't have asked for a better location right next to the Pointe Vecchio. There was also a host of great restaurants, cafes, and a grocery store right down the street from Casetta. Even though there was snow on the ground and there was weather was extremely cold in Florence, we would come back to Casetta and be very comfortable for the night. It was right across the Arno River from the Uffizi Gallery. Good restaurants were plentiful in this area with Quattro Leoni, Il Gatto La Volpe, O Restaurant on the Arno, and Vecchia Bettola. We took a walk to the top of the Piazza de Michaelangelo. We would recommend Italy Perfect without hesitation.

We loved our stay at Casetta Bonsi. The accommodations themselves were very comfortable and perfect for the two of us. The location of the Casetta in Oltrarno was reasonably secluded and quiet but within walking distance of virtually everything we wanted to see and do in Florence. Guests should be mindful that there is a steep street to walk up to the Casetta. We found it to be manageable but some may not. We tried many of the restaurants recommended by Maurizio and enjoyed all of them. We particularly enjoyed the restaurant Bordino a short walk from the Casetta. For pizza, we liked Baldovino. For local flavor for lunch we had a fun experience at Mario in the Mercato Centrale area. Near Santo Spirito is Trattoria Borgo Antico where we had incredible wild boar stew and cheesecake. For our special evening, La Giostra was perfect. Our eight day visit to Florence was one of the most stimulating yet relaxing vacations we have had in many years no small measure to our accommodations at the Casetta and the guidance of Maurizio and Italy Perfect. We would unqualifiedly recommend Italy Perfect to friends.

I can't recommend the Casetta Bonsi strongly enough! If anything the web description doesn't do it justice. The location was perfect -- close to everything (including a first rate gourmet supermarket), but just far enough away from the crowds (which were relatively subdued in November) and relatively quiet for Florence (I occasionally heard cyclists get their vespas from the parking area outside, but the street itself isn't terribly busy -- unlike the nearby Via dei Bardi, where I've stayed before). And believe me, I spent quite a lot of time in the apartment because it rained 12 out of the 14 days I was there! (Highly unusual, I hear.) Maurizio was a model host. To compensate for the rain, there were a wonderful Bronzino show at the Palazzo Strozzi, which is an excellent exhibit space. The Palazzo Davanzati, opened after years of restoration, is also a very interesting place to spend a few hours. I would highly recommend Italy Perfect to a friend, and I look forward to returning to Italy soon!

There could be no better home base for a visit to Florence than Casetta Bonsi. Tucked away on the "Oltrarno," you feel part of the real life of the city -- yet all the cultural destinations are just a short walk away. The local markets and restaurants are convenient and pleasant. The owners are the soul of hospitality; they take loving care of their property, and those who stay there. Lisa made sure all the arrangements were truly "Italy Perfect," and supplemented the extensive information package with some helpful extra advice about trains; we would recommend them without hesitation, and plan to use their sister organization in Paris in the near future.

Casetta Bonsi is a most charming residence and Maurizio and Gabriella the most charming hosts. There are only good things to say about both the accommodation and the owners. Every need has been catered for with considerable care in the casetta and the location is within easy walking distance of most of Florance's main attractions. The neighbourhood is quiet even though there is scooter parking outside. Casetta Bonsi is extremely clean and well cared for. There are many wonderful places to eat in close proximity, including Bordino's and Celestine's, and Maurizio assists with pointing out many other restaurants and places of interest. There is also a supermarket at the bottom of the hill which has everything you could need. Italy Perfect is a very well organised agency to deal with and we will definitely use them again if we ever have the chance to travel back to wonderful Italy.

We stayed at the Casetta Bonsi for 5 days early in October 2010. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is excellent; we were within walking distance of everywhere we wanted to go. When we needed to take a break during our daily excursions, we could just go home (never more than a 10 minute walk) and relax on the balcony. The house was furnished beautifully, and equipped with all the appliances we needed. Our host, Maurizio, was very friendly, informative and helpful. The welcoming complimentary bottle of wine, bowl of fruit, and delicious ice cream was much appreciated. If we go back to Florence, we will definitely try to stay at the Casetta again.

We stayed at Casetta Bonsi for a week in late September. We are really glad we opted to stay in a private property rather than a hotel - we were so comfortable in the little house - far more so that we would have been in a room in a hotel. Maurizio the owner was lovely and provided us with lots of information about Florence and recommendations of where to eat locally. He also left us some wine, fruit, chocolates, sweets and ice cream - a lovely welcome that we really appreciated. There was a slight mix up with the wireless router but he returned the next day to rectify this and was only too happy to do so. Casetta is a lovely house and Maurizio and his wife have thought of everything that you might possible need. We particularly enjoyed the balcony where we had breakfast on a couple of mornings and watched the sun go down with a glass of wine in the evening. It was a perfect retreat after a long day out in Florence. Location wise Casetta is excellent. It's in a area close to everything you'll want to see but a little bit off the beaten path. There are restaurants in the area where locals eat as well as the tourists - this was exactly what we wanted to experience rather than eating in tourist traps every night. We really enjoyed Bordinos which is just around the corner from Casetta - we had a fantastic, great value meal there on Maurizio's recommendation. The service from Lisa at Italy Perfect was great. Lots of really helpful information in advance and all our questions were quickly answered. We've already booked a trip to Rome through Italy Perfect for next year!

My sister & I spent 4 fabulous nights at Casetta Bonsi. We were greeted on arrival by Maurizio and were given a detailed introduction to all ammenities and a written sheet with recommendations for restaurants, sight-seeing etc. Fruit, chocolates & sweets were a lovely welcome touch. The Casetta Bonsi has absolutely everything! We loved the large bathroom, spacious living area, balcony and bedroom. Both the bed in the main bedroom and the pull out bed in the living area were extremely comfortable.Location was perfect and within walking distance of restaurants, shops and of course historical places of interest. The immediate area was quiet apart from the coming & going of residents on motor scooters, however that did not cause us any inconvenience. Our only suggestion would be that a couple of finebone china cups be supplied for drinking tea or coffee to replace the chunky mugs currently in use. We would certainly stay at this wonderful accommodation again and highly recommend the whole experience from booking to departure.

We loved the Casetta Bonsi. Our welcome could not have been warmer if we had been staying with old friends. Maurizio was waiting at the Casetta when we phoned from the station to advise our arrival. He explained all the features of the Casetta to us and followed up several times during our stay to ensure that we were comfortable. The Casetta is conveniently located just two blocks from the Ponte Vecchio. The house is beautifully furnished and the kitchen is well equipped. There were numerous thoughtful touches .. fresh fruit and bottle of wine in the kitchen, tiramisu gelato in the freezer, fresh flowers in the bedroom and bathroom and Baci chocolates and a welcome note from Maurizio and Gabrielle beside the bed. Maurizio provided us with recommendations on where to shop, where to dine and even how to use the local transport. Maurizio also arranged for our taxi on departure and although we were leaving at 5.00 am, he sent us a text message to let us know that the taxi was on the way. He could not been more helpful. We would certainly recommend to Casetta Bonsi to anyone planning a visit to Florence.

Since we own a couple of VRBO condos in Charleston, SC we were pleased at the condition, location, accomodations and Maurizio, it's host. The condo is just perfect and it is everything that it is advertised to be. Besides being very clean, etc. it was very quiet. We learned to love Bordinio's restaurant at the foot of the hill and the other recommendations of Maurizio were "right on". Our six days were perfect and we would not hesitate in recommending it to others and when we go back to Florence we will be calling again for Casetta Bonsi.

We loved staying at Casetta Bonsi during our visit to Florence this summer. It was prefectly located and a very warm and inviting home. Maurizio, our host, was welcoming and wonderful. He and his wife went out of their way to welcome us with fresh fruits, flowers and even ice-cream for our children!! His recommendations for local restaurants were great. The accomodations and service were excellen on both of our stays in December/January. Only house drawback was the master bed. Not very comfortable after a few days. Trattoria Nella provided excellent food and take away. Cose del 900 wonderful jewelry and very sweet owner, Daniella. A folio for fees incurred would help with the budget and a trolley like Maurizio's for hauling groceries and such. And last but certainly the best were Maurizio and Gabrielle. Wow! We have already recommended Casetta Bonsi to several folks and the jet lag is not quite over. Best Regards. Rob and Ann Healdsburg, CA Thank you for your valued feedback. We have since added a foam pad to bed, for the comfort of future guests who prefer a less firm mattress. A rolling grocery cart is in the laundry room, we're sorry these guests didn't find it. Maurizio will point it out to future guests. The fees for internet & utilities are detailed on the Casetta web page, in the rental agreement & confirmation. Lisa - Italy Perfect

Our gracious greeting by Maurizio at Casetta Bonsi began a perfect week in Florence. We were well prepared by Italy Perfect for the experience of renting in Europe for the first time. Maurizio could not have had the house more welcoming. Flowers, wine and a bowl of fruit in addition to clear instructions, in English, on how to operate appliances, and all features of this lovely little home. We never encountered a glitch and I was dismayed to learn that I missed his call to check on us two days into our visit. My cell phone was not receiving voice mails. I would stay in this comfortable home again and would recommend it highly. Deborah Heald Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida

Thank you again for your assistance during our stay in your fabulous Florence. We so enjoyed the Casetta, and its wonderful location. All the extra surprises (the flowers and fruit and gelato) were unexpected and lovely gestures of welcome. The house is comfortable, and surprisingly quiet. The large bathroom with roomy shower and plenty of hot water, the selection of firm and soft pillows on the bed, the gorgeous antique furniture throughout the Casetta, the charm of the terrace which was larger than we had expected, and the great local restaurants Maurizio recommended. We just don't want the Casetta to become so hugely popular that we won't be able to get a reservation next time! L Fitzpatrick Bethesda, Maryland

We were looking for a quiet, clean, cozy, centrally located apartment, and we found it here at Casetta Bonsi. The apartment had everything we needed, from towels to fresh fruit, but most of all it was super quiet (which is very difficult to find in Florence) and right on the Oltrarno side of the Ponte Vecchio. PERFECT. The only complaint I had was that we couldn't store our luggage in the apartment before check-in, which was pre-arranged, so we had to lug our bags around florence for 3 hours. The service was very thorough and Lisa was very prompt in her responses to my questions. We would for sure recommend this apartment to friends and family. Elizabeth, NY,NY

Best rental we've experienced in Italy among over a dozen in Rome, Florence, Verona, Naples, Positano and other wonderful locations. Casetta Bonsi is in a wonderful location (just a short distance from the Ponte Vecchio) and is a comfortable, unique two story, one bedroom home. Not any major negatives although the motor bikes can be bothersome at night although the problem is easily solved by closing the window facing the street and opening the one facing the rear. The climb up the hill to the apartment is imposing but one gets used to it quickly. Many trattorie from which to choose within easy walking distance; our favorite was 4 Leoni, particularly if you can be seated outside to enjoy the Florence sunshine. Maurizio was extremely helpful and on-call for whatever problems (there were none) may occur. His kind but unexpected stocking of food (fruit, cheese, wine, pasta, etc) was appreciated. The advance information provided by Italy Perfect was very helpful and was a great way to build positive expectations of our visit to Florence. Everything promised by Lisa was fulfilled. Thank you Maurizio and Italy Perfect for a really enjoyable stay at Casetta Bonsi in mid-April. The house is in a great location, just across the Ponte Vecchio and down one block. Everything was in order as was listed on the website. My husband and I and our 2 daughters (9 & 11) took full advantage of the location and amenities at the house. The girls enjoyed our cooking class one night at "In Tavola" within walking distance from the house where we made pizza and gelato. Close proximity to all the major sights but far enough away to avoid the crowds. Tips for restaurants and grocery stores were right on the money! The house was extremely clean and Maurizio was more than ameniable in preparing our stay. Grazie molto! We would definitely recommend this property and look forward to visiting again and have no qualms about utilizing the services of Italy Perfect in the future. A very pleasant experience. Casetta Bonsi was perfect for a trip to Florence. The house was charming, its location was so central and there was a perfect bakery just down the hill on the River Arno with the world's best pastries. We enjoyed everything: galleries, museums, great restaurants and excellent food. We would recommend Bordino's and Bibo's which are both close to the Casetta. The service was wonderful although we never figured out how to use the shower until the last day. This was due to our lack of understanding Italian as Maurizio was unable to show us how it worked, as he was in hospital. We were stunned by the high cost of the utilities as we only ate breakfast in the Casetta and used the washing machine once. Can't imagine what it would have cost if we had cooked our meals at the Casetta! This is the first time we have had to pay the utilities after our stay and would much prefer to pay a higher rate and have them included in the original cost as is usually the case both in Europe and Mexico. [Note: Most Italian vacation properties charge separately for utilities since Italy has the highest utility costs in Europe. This is explained in the Italy Perfect FAQ, Rental Agreement & Confirmation. Lisa] This being said I would highly recommend this Casetta to anyone visiting Florence. We had wonderful weather and Florence is such an easy city to walk around and enjoy people watching from outdoor cafes. The service from Italy Perfect was great and the people who met us and welcomed us were wonderful. We couldn't have picked up a better place to stay in Florence!!! Hopefully we will be able to return to your beautiful city of Florence and stay again at Casetta Bonsi! Kinney and Harriette Gause, Beaufort, South Carolina

We had a marvelous week in Florence. The house is beautifully furnished and we found ourselves spending more and more time there as the week progressed. I just wish I had a bar-tabacchi to get my morning caffe doppio and paste (3- il numero perfetto I was told), a news vendor at the corner, florist and grocery store all down the hill from where we live. Mr. Miranda was disarmingly courteous and helpful. The hill wasn't so bad and the street noise not noticeable. We slept soundly and well (not surprising given the walking we did). Next trip to Europe you can rest assured that we will be checking your website first for accomodations. Your description of the house and neighborhood were complete and exact and we found the material you e-mailed on Italy, Florence and Casetta to be greatly helpful. Thanks To you and Mr. Miranda for a wonderful vacation. Sandy Millholen, Willimantic, Connecticut

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cassetta! This was our first time "renting" an international place rather than staying in a hotel and we loved it. It will be difficult to go back to staying in hotels. Maurizio was so pleasant and easy to talk to. The welcome gifts from Gabriella were thoughtful. The house is wonderfully renovated but still maintains its old world charm. It was clear that every need was accounted for right down to the bathrobes and the white rose bud on the sink. We've been to Firenze several times before. This time we spent our days enjoying simple pleasures of the city like lingering over breakfast with fresh bread, jam, and coffee. Wandering the narrow streets behind the house up to and past the fort along the old city wall and down the hill to the grocery store and the Arno. Visiting the museums and churches we had not been to before. The location can't be beat. Close to everything, but tucked away from the crowds. The whole process from beginning to end was seamless. We hope to return to Firenze and I hope the Casetta again! Many thanks! Anne Calek & Dave Lockery, La Grange, Illinois
