Ahh, rest and relaxation! I had the opportunity to stay in the Summerwind Cabin, located in Island Park, ID. Island Park is a great destination near Yellowstone National Park for everything from hiking and fishing, to snowmobiling and cross country skiing.
Summerwind Cabin had everything a bear needs for a great vacation. It is a quiet location among a forest of pine trees, within walking distance to the Island Park Reservoir. The cabin is very spacious and includes a full kitchen, comfortable living room, laundry room, 2 bathrooms, and enough beds for the whole family. The deck is a huge plus with dining table and hot tub for hours of outdoor enjoyment. The cabin even comes with a canoe to take out on the water. For those who want to stay indoors, the TV offers dozens of channels.
If you’re feeling adventurous, head out on the nearby ATV trails, go for a hike to Mesa Falls, or spend a day boating and fishing at Henry’s Lake State Park just a few miles away. My favorite part of the trip was the close proximity to West Yellowstone and the national park, so I could easily go visit my wildlife kin. Island Park is the perfect home base for exploring the park because you can return to peace and quiet after a day at the popular tourist spots like Old Faithful.
Thank you Summerwind Cabin for an enjoyable and relaxing stay!

This was a last minute New Years Eve snowmobiling trip for my husband and I and two other couples. Great little quiet cabin. We all slept great. I enjoyed the homey touches, like quilts, log beds, duck lamps, extra pillows and blankets in all the closets . The towels were nice and fluffy. The hot tub was great! Lots of jets. The cabin was easy to find and great sled trails everywhere without road traffic. We are coming back in February when there is more snow. I would have given this cabin five stars, but there is carpet in the upstairs bathroom which I didn't care for, but the owner said tile will be put in that bathroom this spring.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

We had stayed at a larger property owned by Dawnya last summer, but the whole family couldn't come this time, so we decided on this smaller one based on such a great experience at Summerwind Lodge. Wow! Such a cute cozy log cabin! I loved having a crock pot there, less work for me after a day of playing in the snow with the kids. The cabin was nice and clean, linens and towels were as good as the bigger place. The hot tub was in pristine condition and we used it alot after snowmobiling all day. The only improvements I would make is a bigger microwave and more dish towels.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

I'm not big on writing reviews but I thought I would on this rental. When we arrived the cabin was not what I would even call 'Hotel" clean. There were cob webs hanging from the walls and the carpets were not vacuumed. My wife vacuumed and filled the vacuum canister 1 and 1/2 times. There was food and garbage under the seat cushions of the couches and beds. The wifi did not work either. The mattresses are very hard and need replaced.....I ended up sleeping on an air mattress and putting my children on the beds and even they complained. When we contacted the property manager she was almost accusing regarding the cleanliness as if we had to high of expectations. She said my wife did not need to clean and that they would have sent out the cleaning staff.....just what I dont want to see after traveling so we just did it. I sent the property manager another response and have never heard back....poor service. However, this is a nice little cabin located in a decent location in Island Park. It is nice and cozy.Owner response: I was not informed the wifi didn't work until the day of his departure. We fixed it immediately upon discovery of the problem. I was in the cabin prior to this clients arrival and did not observe the conditions he complained about. I offered to send cleaning staff back out to address his concerns but he refused. He had been in the cabin for two nights before he emailed. In nine years of renting this cabin he is the first to complain about the beds. I'm sorry they were not comfortable enough for him. My family and friends have slept here many times in comfort. It is my policy to return all emails in a timely manner, however my husband had a skiing accident on Dec 30 and I was a little slow in responding to some emails. I responded to his first email within hours and offered assistance. My goal is for all my clients to be 100% satisfied. We try our best to offer clean comfortable log cabins for families to enjoy.

We've rented several cabins in the Island Park area over the years, and this is one of our favorites. A few highlights and comments: >> We stayed at the cabin in the fall, so the nights were getting darn chilly. This cabin is definitely cozy/draft-free; plus, many of the rooms have their own temperature control, which was an added bonus for our family. >> The kids (and mom's sore hiking muscles) appreciated the clean, well-maintained hot tub and, if you're a fan of s'mores or fire-scorched hot dogs, you'll love the firepit. (Plan to supply your own fire wood.) >> The kitchen has a decent selection of pots, pans, bowls, etc., for baking and cooking. I really appreciated that a crock pot was available. (As with many cabins, plan to bring/buy your own spices, etc.) >> The cabin is ~7 minutes from the main highway, so it's away from the mainstream but still convenient for daytripping to Yellowstone, fishing, horseback riding ranches, boating, etc. (We recommend them all, by the way.) >> Idaho is called the Gem State for a reason, so one day we headed west on Yale-Kilgore to a little town called Spencer, known for opals. There's a store there that allows you to 'mine' your own opals, which is a cool experience for kids and rock hounds. Bring shovels or rock hammers and safety glasses if you go. ~20 miles of the road is unpaved, so plan accordingly. (Probably not a great trip during the winter, assuming the road is even maintained.) >> As one reviewer noted, there are other cabins within a long, hard stone's throw. However, this is true for most cabins in the area; and, for us, no big deal, especially since the lot is large and fairly heavily wooded. Bottom line: I'd book this cabin again without hesitation. Thanks, Dawnya.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers.

We rented the Cowan Cabin for a week. When you reserve places on the internet you are always a little apprehensive about what you are really going to get. We can honestly say that it was better that described. The cabin is comfortable and lovely and they provide EVERYTHING they say will and then some. It is far enough removed from town that you are really out in nature but close enough that 5 - 10 minutes in the car gets you to groceries, gas and the main highway. The owners have made a book that tells about the area. It has information on hiking, fishing, attractions, restaurants and so many other things. We used a lot of the information in the book to get to know the area and see things that we otherwise wouldn't have known about. We really appreciated the time and effort put into it. It made our stay even more enjoyable. There isn't anything we would change about the cabin or the amenities. It was so nice to come in and be able to make it our home for the week. The owners have done a wonderful job in figuring out the needs for their cabin and what makes it nice for others to come and enjoy it. We will definitely be returning to the Cowan Cabin for more rest, relaxation and fun!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Our family thought this place was perfect! The owner has thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, extra blankets and pillows, etc. The wifi connection worked great, important for me as I'm in online college. The kids liked taking the canoe down to the river and paddling around and making smores in the big firepit. The location was great, far enough off the highway to be quiet, but still close to Yellowstone. We will be back next summer to make more great family memories.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway, families with young children, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

My wife and I took our first trip to Island Park and were happy to stumble upon this property. However, from these pictures, you can't tell that there is a house directly behind the property and houses on each side of the property. It's not as secluded as it appears. Also, upon arrival, the hot tub was out of order (although got fixed) and we had to clean all the dishes before using them. Not sure what the cleaning fee is used for, especially since the owner requires you to throw your trash away at the dump on your way out of town. After contacting the owner with a request for compensation for the inconvenience (strictly out of principle) I heard no response.Owner response: I wish I could make everybody happy all the time in this business, but unfortunately that is not possible. Cleaning staff noticed the hot tub heater wasn't working properly. The tub was hot but not as hot as normal. This was noticed while cleaning two hours prior to his arrival The repair man was dispatched on a very expensive after hour service call. I wanted to do all I could for his group to have a hot tub functioning properly. I did the best I could for this client as a vacation rental owner. Nowhere in my advertising do I say this cabin is "secluded" Yes, the photos show the exterior of the cabin to it's best advantage. That is the goal of advertising photos. This cabin sits on a 1/2 acre heavily wooded lot. My cabins are CLEAN. The clients before and after him didn't mention dirty dishes? There is no garbage service in Island Park. NIck agreed to remove his garbage upon departure in his rental contract. What does removal of garbage have to do with the extremely hard work that cleaning ladies do? The cabin had to be cleaned after his departure, that is why he was charged a cleaning fee. This client asked for half of his rental payment to be refunded! The hot tub was available on the first night and he used it on the second night. The cabin was clean and ready for his family. I didn't respond to his refund request because I was on my own vacation when his email came in. I only saw it yesterday evening.

About the owner: I own vacation rental property in Idaho and Utah. I manage all my rentals myself and have done so for thirteen years. I enjoy helping clients plan their trips and explore the Island Park area.
Why the Owner Chose Island Park:
Island Park is the best of the Yellowstone area without all the tourists. All of my cabins have large lots surrounded by trees for a private and peaceful vacation. There is great hiking and fishing in the summer and incredible snowmobiling and cross country skiing in the winter. There is also a golf course if you want to hit a few balls in the summer. Harriman State Park is close by with the best hiking and cross country ski trails in Eastern Idaho.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
We like to paddle in the canoe in the Island Park resevoir. We also take our speed boat out and go fishing and waterskiing. This cabin is full log construction and really has the cozy cabin in the mountains feel to it. After playing on the water it's nice to throw a steak on the grill (or a fish if we were lucky that day), and then relax in the hot tub. In the winter, sometimes it's just nice to watch the snow fall while you read a book by the fireplace, or go sledding or cross country skiing.
