Wake up with View of San Francisco Bay/Alcatraz & Angel Island
- Minimum stay:N/A
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Fabulous panoramic city and water views from Coit Tower to Bay Bridge, Alcatraz, Angel Island, Belvedere. Deck, garden, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths (each bathroom has a shower but the ground floor bathroom is small). Walk, along the Bay, to excellent restaurants, cafes, music, bus, ferry, sailing, kayaking, art galleries, all only a few blocks away!
This very cute house, built in 1920 and with many original features, is situated on a sunny lot in Old Town Sausalito (a flatter part of Sausalito) on a quiet street and has a spacious back yard. The walk back and forth to the Bay is easy with a gentle slope.
There are two living areas, the Bay side which is very sunny in the morning, and the street side around the (not yet functional) antique fireplace.
There is a small public, dog-friendly beach close by. Rodeo Beach (off-leash) is a 10 mins scenic drive through the Marin Headlands.
The ferry is an enjoyable 10 mins walk and it takes about 30 mins to the City. You can take a late night bus back. There are bus stops one block from the house.
One block away is a general store with organic vegetables, fresh bread, and local wines and beers.
Generally, we do not rent out for less than 7 days. Maximum number of days is 14 to 21 depending on availability.

The house was very clean, comfortable and made us feel welcome. The views of San Francisco and the bay were amazing and we really enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the light change over the water. It was an optimal starting point for day trips, whether by car or ferry. Upon arriving we were pleasantly surprised by the fresh pack of coffee, which made all the stresses of a long trip fade away. The house was very well stocked with linens, kitchen gadgets, flash lights, batteries and towels. Thank you for letting us enjoy your incredible home and hospitality.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Very comfortable and cozy house with a magnificent view of the SF Bay - truly spectacular! Owner was a pleasure to deal with - very prompt and helpful replies to all questions and logistics of arrival/departure very easy. The house is immaculately clean and well-equipped and the owner has thought of everything you could possibly need and more - including the bottle of wine that greeted us when we arrived. We appreciated the owner's concern with recycling and that he made it very easy to do so by having appropriate containers and clear instructions. The house is in a great location - walking distance from shops, cafes and restaurants; easy drive into San Francisco or to the wine country; multitude of wonderful hikes nearby; and, a short drive to the ocean. I would recommend this property without hesitation.Recommended for: Age 55+, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We spent 2 weeks here over Xmas - we've been coming to SF for over 10 years visiting family and have stayed in many different locations (Nob Hill, Marina, Union Sq) and decided to go over to Sausalito. The home is perfect for families (we are 2 adults, 2 children aged 5 and 4)from the UK. Location is spot on, very quick to get int the countryside, beaches, but equally easy just to nip over the GG bridge into the City. It was well stocked with all the kit you need to cook, eat with etc (enough for us to put on Christmas lunch for 8). We can genuinely say that after 2 weeks it really did feel like our home. It is a classic Bay Area property so don't rent if you are looking for something minimalist and "Philippe Starck" - if however you are looking for a wonderful home, in a great location with views to die for from the balcony, then this place is for you. FritS the owner was charming and a great guy - nothing was too much trouble. Would definitely recommend.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We passed through the Bay Area last week to visit friends for three days and stayed at the Gem on the Bay. We have a 20 month old, a 3 year old and a 6 year old so we appreciated having three great bedrooms, an equipped kitchen, laundry, parking steps from the front door and the super convenient location. We all slept very well (it is a very quiet location) and woke every morning to beaming sunshine and a gorgeous view of the bay, bridge and city. I'd say the place is one of the best values for accommodation in the area. Frits was very responsive and helpful and returned our deposit the day we left. We would definitely stay here again! Thank you Frits!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We cannot say enough about this home. It is everything the listing description states. The pictures accurately portray the house, the rooms in the home, and the location with its fabulous views of the bay. The property is immaculately maintained. We were made to feel welcome and at home from the moment we stepped through the door. The owner provided a wealth of information covering shopping, restaurants, sightseeing, activities, driving directions... The owner orchestrated and provided every detail to enable us to walk in and settle in immediately. The location is ideal. I recommend this home and its owner very highly.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and another couple stayed here for a week in August. The house is exactly as shown in the photos. Good news for us as first time VRBO users! And the house was very clean even though it had been rented to people with dogs. (I was concerned about dog hair and odors). Plenty of room for 4 adults. Enough parking space for the large Chrysler 300 we'd rented. We used the BBQ and the washer and dryer, all top notch appliances. Located in a quiet neighbourhood so we slept with the windows open, hardly any noise at all. Very important when all you have is natures air conditioning in the summer! We were however grateful of the efficient heating system in the evenings. Great location! 10-15 min walk to the ferrys, restaurants. We were glad we stayed in Sausalito and not San Fran or Tiburon. Great view of the Bay and San Fran from deck and inside, even intriguing when the fog rolled in! The owner fritS was extremely informative and was available the few times we texted him with questions during our stay. His recommendations on restaurants and area info was very helpful. I would recommend this property. Thanks fritS!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I just spent 5 nights at this charming rental. It was just as described or even better. The views are lovely, the home very comfortable, and Frits (owner) was fabulous to work with. Our slightest query was answered within moments via e-mail; our deposit was returned within hours of departure. Location-wise, we found Sausalito and this cottage to be perfect. We enjoyed our time in the city but were always happy to return to the tranquility (and sunshine) of Sausalito. With our rental car parked just outside the front door, it was extremely easy to pop over the Golden Gate Bridge to visit our friend in the Presidio (12 minutes) or to drive up to the wine country and northern coast. We also enjoyed walking to downtown Sausalito and taking the ferry over to the city. The Marin Headlands are 5 minutes away and easily accessible. We had breakfast every morning at The Lighthouse which appeared to be a local favorite. All in all, one of our best experiences with vrbo. We recommend this Gem on the Bay highly.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: thanks so much for the nice review and I was happy to hear that you loved our Gem on the Bay and its location.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: We are (semi-)retired couple who initially bought this house for one or two nights/week. We live about an hour away from Sausalito and fell in love with the views.
Why the Owner Chose Sausalito:
We were dreaming of a place with a wonderful view with easy walks along the Bay to restaurants and long walks on dog-friendly beaches. The house is only minutes away from excellent restaurants and the Ferry to the City.
The house had multiple offers and was sold within a week, just because of the location and view.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The most enjoyable hours of the day are early morning watching the sun rise and the fog dissipating around Angel Island and Alcatraz and the evenings watching the City Lights. Taking the Ferry to San Francisco in the afternoon, browsing the Market in the Ferry Building, having dinner at a North Beach Italian restaurant, and taking the bus back to Sausalito is a delightful way to enjoy the City.
