The OSPREY NEST is a lakefront home with an extraordinary view both from inside, and outside from the deck and private dock. The lake water is crystal clear and just the right temperature for swimming. Guests can use the ladder at the end of the dock to get into the water or use the spacious dock to sunbathe and watch the boats go by on their way to Bottle Bay Resort just down the lake. Schweitzer Mountain ski runs can be seen from the end of the dock and across the lake, the mountain scene changes constantly in the light providing endless photo opportunities. And if you are an early riser you might see a special bird visitor on the dock, ducks, geese or a blue heron. We're not sure why the the fishing from the dock is especially good but the blue heron takes advantage of it too. Across the road and high up in one of the trees is an eagles nest. Lucky guests may see them soaring or swooping for a fish and they will certainly hear their calls.
Dining on the outdoor deck is the preferred place to eat. The gas barbecue is right outside the kitchen window and it is easy to bring food from the Pullman kitchen to the deck. The bedrooms in the home are located on opposite ends of the home for privacy; the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room are in the center. The cozy living room is paneled in knotty pine and contains a wood stove for those especially cool mornings. The location of the house makes it easy to take advantage of all the things to do in town or run down to Bottle Bay Resort for a casual meal on their dining deck, get boat gas or even rent a boat. There are many hiking trails in the area. One of the best, the Gold Hill trail is just a short walk from the home.

About the owner: My husband and I met and both graduated from the University of California at Berkeley. My husband was a retired Air Force Colonel, a rescue pilot in the Vietnam war(a Jolly Green Giant), transitioning after the war to C-5As (the worlds largest airplane)and becoming a squadron commander at Travis AFB. After 23 years of service he retired and worked for Hughes Aircraft company as the director the of Market Research in Los Angeles. Ten years later, after sponsoring 2 sons through college, we decided to change our lifestyle completely and we purchased Bottle Bay Resort which we owned and managed for 12 years.
Why the Owner Chose Bottle Bay:
My husband and I purchased this vacation home as an addition to the cabins on Bottle Bay Resort. When we sold the resort in 2001, we just couldn't part with this little house. We loved Bottle Bay and the resort and our neighbors and friends and we wanted a place to come back to for as long as we were able.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The extraordinary view is mesmerizing and ever changing. An eagles nest in the tree across the road gives guests a chance to spot the eagles, hear their calls and perhaps see them fish. There is surprisingly good fishing from the dock and wild geese often show off their families, swimming by the dock as do several other kinds of ducks. Within easy walking distance from the home is the Gold Hill hiking trail maintained by the Forest Service. Nearby Bottle Bay Resort(3.5 miles)has a pleasant restaurant and cocktail lounge. Menu selections are moderately priced and the outdoor deck is shaded on a hot summer day when you would rather not cook. The resort also has boat fuel, boat rentals and boat mooring. Shopping in the town of Sandpoint is 8.4 miles from the home. Schweitzer Mountain Ski resort is a 20 mile drive from the home. Besides the views, hiking, restaurant and gift shop, guests can rent mountain bikes and really enjoy the mountain.
