This home is unique and special in so many ways. It's located just 65 miles southeast of the Twin Cities and 35 miles northeast of Rochester, MN (home to the Mayo Clinic). Lake City is a lovely 'seaside-like' town on Minnesota's South Shore of Lake Pepin.
The address is: 523 Park Street, Lake City, MN 55041 (or 523 N. Washington Street for GPS.).
Its cozy, New England Coastal style is sure to please the most discerning guests. The spacious 4 bedroom or cozy 2 bedroom (Lock-Out Configuration) - Comfortably accommodates 2 to 11 people. The home was completely remodeled in early 2010 with all new ceilings, floors, walls, windows, doors, mechanicals, bathrooms and a modern kitchen (stainless steel appliances and solid granite counter tops).
The spacious living room, dining room (with custom made farm table) and kitchen are all open which creates a wonderful Great Room space for entertaining family & friends. Each room throughout the house has a wonderful view of the Lake. There is a 42' HDTV, entertainment center & fireplace. The living room features a large leather sofa, leather chair w/ottoman, game table and unbelievable views of Lake Pepin. The stone patio (w/pergola) in front of the house provides more than 300 sq. ft of luxurious outdoor space and has a beautiful built-in fire pit surrounded by comfortable Adirondack chairs and a covered picnic table porch. The perfect vacation rental place to spend quality time discussing 'whatever' or just taking in the beautiful scenery.
There are two options:
1. Option One - (Sleeps up to 11) - 1550 Sq. Ft.
Four bedrooms & two baths. The master bedroom suite is very large (approx. 300 sq. ft.) with a queen size bed, private sitting area w/second TV & fireplace. Also, the master bedroom suite has 3 large picture windows and each window offers an absolutely breathtaking view of The Lake and Maiden Rock. The second bedroom is also very large and has two queen size beds. There are two bedrooms on the second level and a 3/4 bath, one small bedroom with a double bed and a large open area with three twin beds (perfect for children or adults who want their own bed).
The kitchen is complete in every respect and features stainless steel appliances and solid granite counter tops. The kitchen counter has a peninsula that is perfect for: gathering around; sitting three for meals or serving guests. The dining room features a large table which can be extended to seat 10 very comfortably. There is additional seating for three at the counter.
2. Option Two - (Sleeps up to 6) - 1150 Sq. Ft.
Two bedrooms & one bath. Option # 2 is the main level only and offers all the luxury living space of Option # 1 without the upper level.
Plan that special event!
The home is the perfect place for 'family reunions,' 'girlfriends get-a-way.' 'two or three family housing,' and many other occasions. Lots of open space, yet privacy for those who choose to go to bed early or sleep-in.

SUMMER RESERVATION POLICY FOR 2013:
For the THREE (3) months of June, July and August we accept reservations for one week or longer (in weekly increments) Option #1 only - the whole house. We also require a Friday to Friday stay.
For all other months, we accept reservations for two (2) nights or more for either Option #1 or Option #2.
Normal check-in is 4 PM and normal check-out is 11AM (Exceptions made upon request and when possible)

So sorry it took so long to write this review. We absolutely loved this home and it was amazing!! Having family in the area, this was a perfect location for us and the view of the Town Christmas Tree right from the front lawn gave it the small town charm. We came all the way from Florida so a White Christmas is quite a treat for us. What made it even more amazing was to wake up and look out to see John shoveling off the driveway and brushing off our cars. Sharon had great communication throughout the entire rental process as well. It was a really nice touch to have a Christmas tree away from home in the master suite. Thank you again for making our Family Christmas 2012 perfect!!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Our stay was wonderful. Sharon greeted us upon arrival and welcomed us into the home with a fire in the fireplace and all the kindness and gratuity one can find at an elite hotel or resort. She had everything labeled clearly and made sure we knew how everything worked and how to reach her if we needed anything. The home is beautiful with lovely decor, comfortable and cozy furniture, a long customized table which made it easy to share meals together and work on our crafts. The view is absolutely spectacular and we loved watching all the activity on the lake. From the barges that went by, windsurfers and smaller boats, to the eagles in the sky, we were truly in awe. AND to make the stay even more incredible, a local restaurant called The Railhouse Grill (just a few blocks away) has agreed to deliver to Sharon & John's rentals! The food is fabulous and we will go out of our way in the near future to try more of their delicious food! We have rented many homes through VRBO but have never been this impressed with a home and its owners. We plan to return year after year to make it our getaway choice every Spring! I have had the opportunity to spend several stays at the Amazing Views of Lake Pepin; the first was a family vacation. My wife and I along with our two children as well as my Outlaws spent one of the greatest weeks of vacation we have had... Feelings of New England in Minnesota; the cottage had just recently been updated and was nothing like we thought it would be! Clean and charming with lots of warmth; it was out of a storybook with much character and a well deserved vacation. I also spent time to take my wife back; just the two of us for our Anniversary a short time ago. The owners worked with me as this was a surprise stay for my wife, they went way over in helping create the best romantic getaway sense our Honeymoon. Flowers, Chocolates, her favorite bottle of wine along with a card were all waiting upon our entrance.. Priceless!!!! It was a Fall stay with cooler weather, but the fireplace kept us toasty and we had a fire on the patio as we enjoyed great conversation and talked about the next upcoming years... just the two of us. Awesome!! If you are looking for a great family vacation or a break with romance, check this out and book it early as it goes quickly; you will not regret it. This Fall, I am taking my wife back for our TEN year Anniversary -- Can't wait!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Eight former college friends enjoyed a wonderful weekend at this lovely property. The property owners were friendly, gracious and helpful. The house is an open floor plan, well decorated, and met our needs perfectly. A bald eagle was in a tree on the property each day! We had 8 women gather to celebrate friend's upcoming wedding. Everyone enjoyed their own bed, plenty of space to relax, and the amazing views of Lake Pepin. We loved using the kitchen - it had everything we needed. The owners have gone above and beyond to make the place comfortable, accessible and adorable. The first-level master suite and bathroom seemed like they would accomodate someone in a wheelchair. We even walked a few blocks into town and enjoyed the local bakery and antique shops. We mostly had a weekend-in, but would have had no problem finding ways to fill up our weekend with the local sights. We'd love to come back and visit in the summer or fall. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING....Drove in from Michigan for a family wedding in Lake City, what a delight to stay in this house. Sharon if you ever decide to sell call us first. Everything just everything was AMAZING. Loved the heated mattress pad in the master suite. If fact we loved everything, even had time one night to watch movies that were provided. Needed to wrap some presents, tape and scissors were there. How AMAZING. The owner was awsome to work with. Thank you so very much Sharon. We LOVED your house. So very clean and organized. Comfy and warm. Plenty of towels, blankets, dishes. Beds were comfy and plentiful. Great view of Lake Pepin althought it was cold that weekend so we stayed in and played games, watched movies and chatted. It was a wonderful girls weekend. Very reasonably priced for a group of 9. I would HIGHLY recommend your home to anyone. And we plan on coming back next year. Upon arrival at the "Amazing View" cabin we discovered it was just that! The photos on VRBO really do not do justice to the property. Tastefully decorated in a nautical theme, it had virtually every comfort from home. Don't worry about bringing anything but food, drinks, and clothing! Plenty of room for our party of 11. An amazing view of the lake! The owner was more than helpful when we arrived with information regarding events, restaurants, grocery stores, etc in town. The master bed was super comfortable and the heated blanket was perfect for this time of year. Very reasonable cost for housing our large party. Highly recommend the property!Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing.

Thank you Sharon and John for the wonderful stay. The view on Lake Pepin even in the winter was awesome, picture perfect. We were probably there in the coldest part of the winter but we were toasty inside the lake house. The eagle that landed in the tree out front everyday was a bonus. We stayed here for a ladies weekend. It was perfect! The home provided every comfort and allowed for both group activities and personal space. It was clean and well equipped. The decor made it so comfortable, we did not want to leave. The view was beautiful from the house and as we walked along the lake. We enjoyed shopping and restaurants that were within walking distance. We could not have selected a better property to enjoy the weekend. Thanks so much for all the work that goes into making our stay memorable. Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: John was born in nearby Rochester and vacationed in Lake City with his parents and siblings in the 50s. Fond memories are etched in his memory from years of enjoying their family's boat house and small Thompson cruiser. John was an executive until his early retirement in 2003 when he and his wife purchased a second home in Lake City. They spent the next four years remodeling and redecorating their new summer home. Sharon was born in Cleveland, OH and spent her middle & early adult years in Florida. She moved to MN in the mid 70s and worked in retail as a buyer (Dayton-Hudson) and as a decorator. They purchased a second property in Lake City in 2008 and made it into their first vacation rental. John & Sharon are enjoying their retirement years remodeling and decorating what they believe constitutes the perfect vacation rental.
Why the Owner Chose Lake City:
This particular property and its location is extremely unique. The views are some of the best views possible of Lake Pepin. Its proximity to the water and its central location to the Marina, City parks, the RiverWalk and the downtown is unmatched. Because so much of the Mississippi River is inaccessible due to the highways, railroads, parks and rough terrain, Lake City is blessed because of its access to the Lake. This particular property is one of just a few single family homes available for rent that are so close to the water and with an unobstructed view of Lake Pepin.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The house is ideal as a vacation rental as the views from every room are just hard to envision. The layout is perfect for entertaining and enjoying family and friends. There is room for one group or for several smaller groups to enjoy their time together simultaneously, but with privacy when desirable. The fireplace and the bonfire pit present wonderful opportunities for groups to share their stories with family, friends and to pass on folklore to the next generation.
