The quiet and cozy Lost River Cabin was the perfect setting to rest, recuperate, and reconnect with my husband. The cabin is outfitted with everything you could possibly need, and truly felt like a home away from home. Fun adventures included hiking at Lost River State Park, a visit to Smokehole Taverns, and dinner at the Guest House where we were treated like a King and Queen. We would recommend this cabin to anyone needing a break from it all. We can't wait to go back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: I'm so glad that you had a relaxing time up at our home in Lost River. Great to hear that you were able to get out for the wonderful hiking, fun adventures like the Smokehole Taverns, and get to know the wonderful restaurant at the Guest House! Best regards, David - Property Owner

We stayed a week as a family of five (two adults, three kids) and really enjoyed the place. Our main criteria when selecting a place to stay are (1) privacy from surrounding homes, and (2) a beautiful view. We've rented four VRBO places (Vermont, PA, VA, and this one) and this was tied for first among those, with the edge going to this one since it was closer to home and most affordable. The house is situated right atop a long ridge in the ridge-and-valley region of WV, with views both front and back. We had plenty of room for sleeping and activities. Only downside worth mentioning is the very limited availability of food and drink. Referring to groceries here -- we didn't explore the restaurant scene, which the guestbook suggested was nice. About 25 minutes from a convenience store, and 45 minutes to a real grocery (we didn't go, basing this on the guestbook comments). We brought all our own food, so this didn't matter (except for the inevitable few things we forgot), but something to keep in mind if you rent this wonderful place. A++Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Our stay at the Lost River Cabin was one of the nicest getaways we've ever had. The cabin was adorable and we loved the fireplace and the new stone wall. The cabin was very clean and well maintained and the owners had a nice stock of common cooking necessities like salt, pepper, flour, spices and condiments. That was a really convenient touch as the cabin is quite isolated - which we loved. We stayed 3 nights and I only with is could have been longer. It was perfect and peaceful. Sitting out on the back porch and taking in the "silence" was extremely relaxing and the view was heavenly. I'd highly recommend the Lost River Cabin to anyone looking to get away from it all. You'd be hard pressed to find a nicer home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at Lost River Cabin! It is a special place for us, and we are delighted to be able to share it with others who are looking for a little respite from our otherwise hectic lives. All best, David

David and Dave's cabin is the perfect place to get away from all the pressures of everyday life. Situated on a secluded mountain top, its views are amazing. The cabin's photo ads don't accurately show its loveliness. We enjoyed creating meals in the well supplied kitchen. The shower was fantastic!! They even have a great hammock for the deck. Life was GOOD in that hammock looking out over the mountains. There are state parks nearby with great hiking trails and horseback trail riding as well as a very nice pool. Thanks David and Dave for sharing your home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cabin. We had an incredible time despite the unusually high temperatutes! The cabin is just as described and was very clean and had pretty much everything that we needed. We really couldn't have asked for anything more. The view from the deck is so amazing. I really didn't want to come home. There are 2 parks near the cabin that are really nice. Lots of hiking trails that we hope to hike on our next visit. (It was too hot this time...) We ate at The Guest House, The Lost River Grill and The General Store. All were very good. I highly recommend this cabin. It is everything as described and more. We are planning a return trip next year. Thanks again!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

My four teenage kids and I spent a week in this beautiful, well equipped cabin. The cabin itself was gorgeous, well stocked, spacious and clean. We all had a great time playing board games, cards and putting puzzles together by the fire. The views are breathtaking! The beds in this cabin are super comfy and the bedding is top notch. Dave and David have a whole binder in the cabin with information in it on local activities. We were able to find everywhere we wanted to go with no problem. The wifi was a big hit with my kids and their iPhones and also allowed me to put out some "fires" at work while away. :) I work six days a week and could not ask for a more relaxing and rejuvenating week! Thanks to Dave and David for sharing their little piece of heaven with us. Paula, Ram?n, Anthony, Jazmyn and AlexOwner response: Paula, Ramon, Anthony, Jazmyn and Alex, We are so glad you had a relaxing and fun week up in Lost River. We don't get to use the cabin as much as we would like, so it's always great to hear that others enjoy it as much as we do! It has become our touchstone for relaxation and rejuvenation, so it's wonderful to hear that you were able to take advantage of the escape to recharge and unwind. All our best, Dave & David

My husband and I had a fantastic time at Lost River Cabin. Peaceful, relaxing, and secluded, the cabin and scenery are every bit as beautiful as the pictures and are just as advertised. We could not have asked for a better escape. Relaxing on the deck or on the screened in porch at night after a day of hiking or sight-seeing was the perfect way to unwind. The view from the loft bedroom when we first woke in the morning was spectacular and a great way to start each day. I highly recommend this little getaway to anyone.Did you find this review helpful? David and Dave's cabin was perfect for our mini relaxation getaway! It was the first cabin I came across when searching online for the best place to get away too for a relaxing weekend and I immediately loved the description, photos, etc. After continuing the search, I quickly saw how this cabin was way better then most. When my husband and I arrived, we explored inside and out and absolutely loved how cozy, comfortable, inviting, clean and bright it was! The decor is very warm, inviting and definitely modern. The little touches, like complimentary wine, coffee, extra food, spices, candles, dvds, books, appliances, toiletries, and so on made us feel like we were staying at a family/close friend's house. Everything was provided and setup so thoroughly to ensure a comfortable, relaxing stay with no worries. We especially enjoyed the fireplace, lounging on the deck in the warmth of the sun, surrounded by such restful sounds, and loved waking up to the sun coming in through the huge windows while sleeping upstairs in the loft. The ipod dock station was really thoughtful and in a great spot; we loved being able to hear our music throughout the entire cabin as we slowly woke up, drank coffee, and started our day. The only suggestion we had was for the blinds. It wasn't a big deal because around this time of year, there really wasn't anyone else staying in the surrounding cabins, but the blinds in areas of privacy, like the bathroom and bedrooms, were pretty much see through so at night time, someone could easily see into these rooms which could cause an insecure feeling. Also, when we were hanging out on the deck, the sight, the sounds, the air... everything was so perfect! And the only thing that came to mind that could make it even more relaxing would perhaps be adding some kind of pond or small area of water outside the cabin.Regardless, we still had such a wonderful experience! Good spots to stop at are the Lost River Brewing Co. Restaurant and Trout Pond. Thank you so much for opening up your cabin for the enjoyment of others, taking such great care of it, and putting so much thought and warmth into it! We hope to stay there again soon!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

About the owner: We bought Lost River Cabin a few years ago as an escape from the stresses of city living in Washington D.C. What we did not realize is how much at home we would feel in the gorgeous West Virginia mountains. Time spent hiking, cooking up a storm on a Saturday, long dinners that blend into star-gazing evenings on the deck - time seems to stand still up in the mountains and provided us with a better sense of place, relaxation and wonderful memories with friends and family. My partner and I recently moved out West for work, and so have decided to open up our home to guests looking for the same escape! Whether you are in for an adventurous weekend filled with hikes, horseback riding and exploring the State parks, or in need of R&R with a good book, a cozy fire, and a lazy hammock afternoon, I hope you enjoy finding what you are looking for in Lost River, West Virginia. - Dave & David
Why the Owner Chose Lost River:
We bought this cabin in Lost River for a few reasons:
* proximity to Washington D.C. - an easy 2-2 1/2 hour drive; first half is an easy straight shot on 66W, then a gorgeous drive up into the mountains off 55W.
* proximity to and views of George Washington National Forest and Lost River State Forest - an incredible resource filled with hiking trails galore
* rural mountain settings - we specifically did not want to go to a highly-touristed area like Berkley Springs. There is nothing like the stars at night here with no "light pollution" and just the sound of nature.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
Our own personal oasis has exactly what we wanted in a vacation rental / vacation home:
* big deck for dinner outdoors, sunning, hanging in the hammock, bird-watching and enjoying the views;
* screened in porch for cozy morning coffees and late night conversations with the glorious breeze atop the ridge;
* wood-burning fireplace for romantic and cozy evenings throughout fall, winter and spring;
* walking along the ridge in the evening to enjoy the fantastic sunsets
* 5 minutes to the Guest House at Lost River for a wonderful restaurant and bar on Fri/Saturday evenings
* Perfect home-base for exploring WV antique stores, hiking trails, fishing, canoeing, WV wineries, etc.
