COCONUT CABANAS is located on a beautiful 5 acre hilltop setting just off the main Volcano Hwy (Hwy 11) in the beautiful Mountain View ranch land estates area; a 15 minute drive from the Hilo Airport and 15 minutes from world renowned Hawai'i Volcano National Park. The Mountain View area is very affordable and centrally located between Pahoa, Hilo and the Kau districts. Enjoy your private cottage with magnificent Ocean and Mauna Kea views. Stroll through the fruit orchards where we grow a variety of oranges, lemons, pineapples, peaches, apples, plums, figs, avocados, and different spice trees. We also grow coffee and tea trees. A short 5 minute drive to the little town of Keaau, will bring you to a large public open market where you can buy fresh bananas, papayas, and many other exotic locally grown fruits sold by native farmers, and there are also a number of dining restaurants in this area.

Why pay outrageous lodging prices to visit the Big Island of Hawaii! Stay in the Mountain View area where the nights are cool and the mornings are filled with beautiful sunrises! This area has large gentlemen ranch estates full of activities, including zip lines, ATV adventures, and very affordable lodging!

The Mountain View area on the Big Island of Hawaii is not well know to visitors but has some of the most affordable lodging on the Eastern Side of Hawaii. The area is located on the slopes of Mauna Loa at the 1400’ elevation. There is a small Mountain View Village which hosts a one-of-a-kind bakery, a food pantry, a gas station and a video rental complex. Most of the surrounding area is ranchland with large parcels of land. The area is very quiet and has a number of activities, including horse back riding, ATV and Zip Line recreation. The evenings are cool; dipping into the upper 50’s on occasion, and makes for great sleeping at night.

Daryl and Leslea are wonderful host and they offered very warm welcome to us like our parents. They are so loving and caring to us and even invite us to very nutritious and delicious breakfast every morning. On the day that we left their house to go to Kona side, Leslea is so considerate, she even made food for us to take with our trip. Since this Hawaii trip is our ten year anniversary, they are so nice to prepare a wonderful candle anniversary dinner with fresh seafood/grass fed beef. We love to have the dinner with the warmth from the fireplace at the open air and spacious dinning room. Their house has a beautiful landscaping is so beautiful with all kinds of fruits trees, which you can pick and eat everyday? The room is spacious with a big Jacuzzi tub, you can relax from hiking at the volcano park. We love everything about our room and have good night sleep everyday. We highly recommend this place to you if you ever consider to go to national volcano park.

Daryl and Leslea are so nice and caring. They are like our parents to welcome home. Our stay at their house is like home. They invited us to breakfast every morning with delicious and healthy local food and eggs from their hens. Their place has beautiful landscape and various fruits trees, which you can pick and eat:) They even prepare an anniversary dinner for us. My husband and I really enjoyed the dinner with fireplace in the spacious outdoor dinning room and candles. Leslea is very considerat, she even prepare some food for us to take on the last day since we are leaving and heading to Kona side. We really appreciate Daryl and Leslea for offering us their wonderful home as our vacation room during our visit to Vacano national park. Thank you very much! Hang

Daryl and Leslea are not exaggerating when they describe all they offer for “very affordable lodging.” This place has to be one of the best deals on Big Island for vacationers who want to stay in a country setting. Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, and the Puna area all nearby. Leslea is a gifted cook, so plan to start your day with a plentiful and wonderful Hawaiian breakfast that includes fresh eggs from their chickens and fruit from their orchard. An artificial fountain pond and ourdoor eating area separates the cabana from the main house. The “one bath” is spacious, including two sinks, plenty of cupboard space, a large shower, and a separate whirlpool tub complete with bubble soap! The “studio” also includes a separate small kitchen area, table area, and a large bedroom that has generous space for two double beds and a closet. A full-view sliding glass door and screens are the “wall” along the bedside, leading to sitting space on the covered porch. Windows with movable curtains are on all sides, allowing guests to take advantage of cool breezes in a quiet setting. The very reasonable rate even includes two bathrobes, skin-care products, kitchen items, flashlights, TV, fresh fruit bowl, and more—Daryl and Leslea are completely gracious hosts and are sure to ask how they can best accommodate your needs. Even their rescue dog loves to greet guests and fetch for them!

What a great place! Wonderful accommodations. Everything’s new. Spotlessly clean. Everything was as advertised. Leslea’s breakfasts are great and it was great to get to know Leslea and Daryl. Convenient to Volcano Nat Park or Hilo City. We would definitely stay again.

Coconut Cabanas was awesome. We stayed three nights and could have easily made it our only destination. You'll hear about it mostly through local word of mouth, as we did. You will be surprised at the spacious, luxury, private accommodations for such a reasonable cost. The location is quite immediate to Akaka Falls, Hilo and the volcano (10-20 mins). We loved the spa tub, overhead shower and double sinks after a long day of hiking and playing. Two queen size beds, full closets, a partial kitchen and dining area made our stay very easy and comfortable. All organic produce (we're vegetarians) grown on the property, teas, coffee, fresh massive papaya and homemade blueberry scones were an added delight. Owners Leslie and Darryl go above and beyond. Give them a call. Aloha.

We can't wait to go back! It felt like staying at a "Four Seasons Resort" Absolutely beautiful property, amazing hosts, stunning accommodations and above all... words cannot describe the fabulous feasts (breakfast) put out by Leslea. Such gracious hosts, we really enjoyed your taking time to chat with us over breakfast and learning about the area. Thank you Daryl and Leslea, will definitely be seeing you again, and will recommend your place to all our friends and family traveling your way! It was really nice to be able to find a luxurious place , at a price we could afford.

Sorry it has taken so long to write a review but when you leave Hawaii you have to get back to real life unfortunately. We stayed here while we were visiting VNP and Hilo and it is a perfect location. They could easily charge way more per night but they refuse to raise the rates. This place is awesome!! Plenty of privacy and space, and incredibly decorated! Very clean and quiet. The owners really make you feel welcome and at home. I loved the pets and the whole property is beautiful. We wanted to stay forever!!!! We will absolutely be back and can't wait for our next visit!

We started our vacation on the big island in Mountain View. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed into their new and very comfortable cottage. We were able to relax after a long flight in the hot tub with bathrobes waiting when we finished. Breakfast was delicious and the kitchenette had what we needed. The location is ideal for seeing everything on the east side of the island, including volcano national park, lava viewing sites, black sand beach, and the waterfalls. In summary, we would highly recommend staying here; you are unlikely to find similar accommodations in the area, especially at this price.

My wife and I stayed in the Coconut Cabana while visiting Volcano National Park. The location is convenient to both the park and to Hilo. The cabana is clean and upscale. The kitchen is small, but adequate for light meal preparation. The breakfasts were amazing, along with the hospitality of both Leslea and Darryl. We recommend this place for the location, quality of the accomodations and the great hosts.
