We had a terrific long weekend over Easter at this Franklin home. I picked it because it 1) was pet friendly 2)the views from the cabin 3) closeness to day hiking on the AT. We had a great time! The first couple of nights we were joined by couple that are our friends, the last two nights my adult son and two of his college friends joined us. We had plenty of room to not get in each others' way. The one upstairs bathroom did not cause a problem. We were minutes from Franklin and within thirty minutes of the day hike trail heads we used. All in all a great location. I enjoyed having the pastures and acreage. I was able to let my senior dogs have a little freedom from time to time. We were not isolated, the owner lives on the same property and there is another home (that you could not even see) so I would not have even minded if I were alone. We really did not use the downstairs while we were there. It was cold while we were there and very cold down there, and it made no sense for us to turn on the wall space heaters for the little time we might have wanted to be down there. Interesting set up with the two stories. I would certainly stay there again and recommend it to friends and strangers alike. Comfortable and homey, everything we needed. Great deal for the price! My reason for rating it a 4 not a 5 (give me a 4.5) is that it does not have some of the things a newer home may have. We were PERFECTLY SATISFIED! I was willing to trade a hot tub for a rocker on that porch with that fabulous view!!! Luxury no, great --yes!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, sightseeing.

This was a perfect "home base" for a week for eight young women who hiked, shopped, read, and explored the beautiful mountains of North Carolina. It was perfect! The views across the mountains from the porch were wonderful, and the house is private, but not isolated. The single bathroom upstairs was not a problem at all, and the house was very comfortable and well-equipped. It was a pleasure to work with Kevin, and we would certainly rent this home again!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Spectacular views every direction from the wrap around porch. Large house with big field below to let the kids run off their energy. Great location, easy to get to most all the places we visited. Our kids really enjoyed playing with Kevin and April's children and Sissy! We will recommend the place to others and will definitely be back!Did you find this review helpful? We spend 14 beautiful days in 2 cabins that belong to the same owner. It was a big family reunion with people from Spain, Venezuela and Miami. We were so many that one of my brother had to rent a third cabin 30 minutes from where we were to accommodate my sister in law family. However, we all met at the 2 store cabin at the top of the hill on December 24 and December 31 for Christmas and New year. In total we were 26 people. The 2 store house was just perfect, full equipped, you do not need to bring anything than your close. The first floor was just perfect to play not only ping pong, that I lost the account of games that we played, but also, other types of Cards games, monopoly, Domino and other games, without bothering the people at the second floor. We set a fire outside, like the one in the picture, with marsh mellow, singing songs at night. We enjoyed a lot. The only thing we missed was seen Big Foot walking across the house, rather than that, we did a lot of stuff. Mr. Kevin was very helpful and so kind that we can not complain in any way, whatever we needed he was right away there always with a smile. I wish to go again because everything was perfect. The view, the landscape, so many things to see in winter, even the people at the town was very nice.Owner response: We enjoyed meeting you very much, first a long while back, when you made the long trip with your daughter to see if the property would be suitable and again when you brought the rest of your family for your reunion here over the holidays. It sounds like you had a very fun and memorable stay in Franklin. We're happy to have been a part of it and hope you can return to visit with us again sometime. Kevin & April

My husband, I, and our two dogs thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the house. It sits on a hill in the middle of a valley and really does give 360 degree views of surrounding mountains. Lovely views all day long. The acreage was a great place to walk with our dogs and have the freedom to throw balls and wear them out before and after our day trips. Very convenient to 441 and downtown Franklin but road noise not extreme. Good hot water in the shower (I think the water pressure may be a bit low there but the shower head was very nice and powerful). With the exception of a little glow from Franklin, excellent star viewing. Working fireplace. The house was clean and comfortable and we got 4G service on our cell phones and it had Direct TV-did not test the internet as we wanted to get away from our laptops! I did not rate as excellent only because it was an older home so no jacuzzi, no hot tub, small work area in kitchen, etc. -- and a shared bathroom (no master bath), all typical of homes built in the 50s and 60s. The house is as described. I felt some better quality beds, nicer sheets and perhaps a king size bed would be more inviting. In all fairness though, we did not wake up stiff and slept well. The caretakers were very pleasant and accomodating people. We hope to return. It is a great place for someone needing to recharge their batteries, get away from it all but not be in such a remote location you can't go out to dinner etc.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Beautiful accomadations-very clean, quiet and enjoyable! We had 4 children under 12 yrs of age with us-they stayed outside from sun up to sun down. They loved the swing. We also enjoyed many new experiences in NC. We visited the places in the DuPont State Forest that was used for filming during the Hunger Games, the NASCAR musuem in Charlotte, and gem mining here in Franklin. I would recommend using this vacation rental to anyone who needing somewhere to stay!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had an amazing time during our stay here in North Carolina! Kevin & April were great! When we arrived the WiFi wasn't cconnecting for us, so Kevin came up to the house and fixed the problem right away. I think this is a great location if you're looking for a "family get away" spot & the views are spectacular!!!! There is plenty of space for a large family, even though there were only four of us. We plan to return next time with our extended family. The only issue we encountered with the house was that my husband kept hitting his head on the light fixture in the hallway. This was quite funny to my kids, as they would laugh at him each time he would forget to duck as he walked into the light. He's 6'4" & has had this problem before in places that we have gone! If you stay in Franklin, you have to eat a Cafe Rel! I bet it's the best kept secret around.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

The overall experience was pleasant. The only real disappointment was access for the motorcycles. Riding an 800lb touring bike up the driveway proved challenging. One of the first questions asked was about motorcycle access. The information received was not representative of onsite conditions. We made due though. Nice people, nice place. Thanks....Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Your welcome. I'm not familiar with motorcycles. I could only say several travelers have stayed with motorcycles without a problem. The driveway is as pictured on the listing with HomeAway.com, a gravel driveway in the mountains. I'm glad to hear you thought the place was nice and had an overall pleasant experience. Thank you.

About the owner: The estate was my parent's vacation home and we enjoyed many summers and holidays here with family and friends.
Why the Owner Chose Franklin:
My family loved Franklin and this particular piece of land. It was the perfect spot to build a dream mountain retreat. The house sits at the top of a hill in the center of the property which unfolds around it with fields, trails, a tennis court and pond.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
I enjoy the peaceful setting, gorgeous views and sunsets, the amenities and the extensive grounds that give a secluded feeling but I'm just a few miles from town, gem mining, waterfalls, lakes, and not too far from Asheville and Atlanta.
