Why the Owner Chose Franklin
My family loved Franklin and this particular piece of land. It was the perfect spot to build a dream mountain retreat. The house sits at the top of a hill in the center of the property which unfolds around it with fields, trails, a tennis court and pond.
The Unique Benefits at this House
I enjoy the peaceful setting, gorgeous views and sunsets, the amenities and the extensive grounds that give a secluded feeling but I'm just a few miles from town, gem mining, waterfalls, lakes, and not far from Asheville and Atlanta.
Directions: Use "45 Medlin Rd". Apple Trail, our driveway, is a private road.
Owner's Map of Franklin
The estate was my parent's vacation home and we enjoyed many summers and holidays here with family and friends. This is our first year open to the public.

Twas the night before Christmas....

and all through the cabin, the candles were glowing and the fireplace cracklin. The stockings were hung by the chimney with ease, while our family sipped cocoa and snacked on cookies... This was one of our most memorable Christmases. The cabin's rustic charm lent a beautiful homespun flare to our Christmas get-away. The views and sunsets were amazing! Hiking on the property was great therapy especially with "Sissy" by our side. Sitting by the fire talking while Christmas tree lights, candles and embers glowed and bounced flickering reflections back and forth off the wooden walls every evening was the highlight. What a jewel this place is!
Owner response:So glad you had a memorable Christmas. Love the poem! We enjoyed meeting you and look forward to your return.

Nice property, close to town, nice place to walk, geese fly over most every evening, but not at all well kept. Musty basement/game room, lousy cookware, bring your own pots & pans if you intend to cook.
Owner response:Sorry about the kitchen supplies. In the year and a half since you've been here, they've been restocked a few times. Had I known of your disappointment back then, I would have made an immediate trip to Walmart for whatever you needed. The basement is unfinished and we price accordingly. Our rates compare with those of 1 bathrooms though there is a newly remodeled full bathroom downstairs if needed.

Perfect is the best way for us to describe this vacation. It is a beautiful house with spectacular views from morning thru night. It was very clean and had a very comfortable feel. We loved entertaining around the huge country stlye table with an open kitchen area as well as having drinks on the deck while grilling some food and watching the kids play on the swing. The downstairs, or basement, was great and a fun place to hang out. It's surrounded by French doors providing a beautiful view of the front yard and distant mountains. I was very happy that the beds were so comfortable and the rooms were so spotless for an old country house. As far as the wonderful piece of land this house sits on, that's for you to explore. We thoroughly enjoyed our walks and the warm hospitality during this special vacation. I highly recommend staying here to anyone thinking about it.
Owner response:Fun to have you here Brad. It was truly memorable for us too! We look forward to your next visit.

My daughter was looking for a romantic and country setting for her wedding set for Septemer 17, 2011 that would also supply housing for her out of town guests. She found this property on the web site and thought it would work ok. When we saw the property we were thrilled. The house was for the upstairs and we were told that we could use the down stairs but it had not been brought up to date like the upstairs. The down stairs was perfect. It had a rustic setting, but it was so beautiful. The french doors opened and presented a flowing space that let you bring the outside in. The panoramic veiw was great. We used this area for our cocktail hour and for the groomsmen and bridesmaids to socialize and relax before the wedding the folllowing day. We knew we were renting the upstairs and Kevin and April made this clear, but they let us know that we could use the downstairs if we wanted to. The wedding was held out in the front area next to the large tree, after the cermony, we were able to carry on with the coctail hour close by with ample seating. We held the reception in the parking area in the rear. The screened porch on the top made a perfect place for the music. It was totally beautiful. April made everything so clear and helped us in any way she could. Kevin went out of his way to help with any special yard work or any problems that may have arose with the propery(there was none). They made us feel like an extended family and we would highly reccomend this beautiful place to anyone who wants a perfect family gathering or a wedding. My daughter will be posting pictures soon. All you have to do is stand on the top deck to know what a remarkable place this is. The property was very clean and it was just as the add presented and then some. This property had more to offer than could be described here. This is a place to relax and truely spend time with family and friends. I can't stress enough about how helpfull Kevin and April was and how they made us feel like long time family and friends. We will definantly be returning. By the way, the group age for this wedding was from 2 to 70 and the majority were in their 20's and they had a blast. KEVIN AND APRIL THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING. WE'LL SEE YOU SOON P.S. Thank you for all your help with our departed RENNY, we miss him.
Owner response:It was our pleasure. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

The house was not very clean although upon entrance the smell of pine-sol makes it apppear to be. We had to leave and drive to town to purchase soap for the shower and more toliet paper b/c there are no tolietries offered and only 2 rolls of toliet paper for the 6 of us. The 2nd bathroom is downstairs in the uber creepy basement and that 45 degrees -not a bathroom anyone wanted to use. The beds are comfortable and the views are pretty but highly disappointed in how dirty the place was, espeically the floors.
Owner response:I am so sorry. The housekeeper cleaned the house twice last week and uses pine sol on all surfaces. My husband, the caretaker, brought wood in afterward to set up the fireplace and provide the extra wood requested. Maybe some wood particles fell on the floor. I don't know. The downstairs bathroom has been recently renovated with Italian tile, white wainscoting, and light blue paint. For a basement bathroom, it's tastefully done, but understandably at 45 degrees, no room is inviting. I'm sorry that a heater was not turned on downstairs and that you didn't call me about the toiletries. They are stocked in a cabinet. We had been in contact a few times before your arrival so I figured you'd call if there were any problems. When your grandmother arrived the day before you, my husband walked her through the house and she said she loved it and said the kids would love it too. I'm just really surprised and again so sorry. Maybe I should mention that we price the house as a one bathroom due to the separate downstairs access of the second bathroom. However, large parties regularly reserve the house, including wedding parties. I really wish we could have done something to make your stay more enjoyable. Sincerely, April

This is a wonderful property with incredible mountain views. The house is clean and comfortable with the quirkiness of an older mountain home. It is obvious that the owners are gradually updating without destroying the timeless charm. We stayed in the upstairs part of the house except that our boys spent hours daily playing ping pong downstairs. It is crazy that you can get all of this space for the price of a hotel room! Gem mining at Rose Creek Mine and rafting on the Nantahala River were our favorite outings. Every family member agreed that this was the most relaxing, enjoyable vacation ever and definitely one to repeat. Thank you April for making this such an easy trip!
Owner response:It was our pleasure. Hope to see you again.
