My husband and I stayed 3 nights in the MorningLite cabin. Rustic yet very clean and comfortable with all windows. It is very private and has all of the provisions you would ever need. It is so quiet you could hear a pin drop...surrounded by nature and the sounds of the creek below from the deck, I have never been so relaxed in my entire life. Doug is such a nice guy and very helpful, but after check in your privacy is of the utmost concern here. The bed is the most comfortable bed we have ever stayed in through our many years of travel up and down the coast. The tub outside has plenty of hot water since both cabins are on separate water sources. Our favorite spot was on the futon, which was perfectly situated in front of the fireplace, where we sat, drank wine, read and talked. A must see is the waterfall, which is spectacular while hiking there and has a very spiritual feeling when there. Only people who live on Palo Colorado road know about this place and Doug has an excellent map, along with signs and yellow flags helping you find the way. He now has a beautiful plaque nailed to a tree next to the waterfall in honor of his Dad which signifies his forever love of nature and life. While hard to leave the cabin we ventured out to visit the Ripplewood Resort restaurant one morning for breakfast and the food and service was excellent! The next day we visited the Redwood Grill at the Fernwood Resort for the 49er game as my husband is a fanatic and couldn't miss that losing game, unfortunately, but we found the place to be a very friendly and fun place with great drinks. If you like smoked meats the food is for you. They prepare all of their meats on site. The cabins are pet friendly and it is so nice to be able to bring your entire family, but make sure your pet is well behaved, looked after, and responds well to voice commands, as the cabins are on a hill with a few areas that drop to the forrest, so if they aren't use to being off leash bring one. Doug and Donna's new addition is well trained and cute and friendly as ever! Of all of the accommodations in the Big Sur area, Rosehaven Cabins is by far the most remote and price friendly place to go. Please give them a try as you won't be disappointed. Thanks Doug, Donna, and Sammy for making this trip our most memorable! Cindy and Wayne BollingerRecommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing.

I love this place. Doug and Donna are absolutely wonderful hosts, and very helpful on ideas of outings. I brought my dog, and there is lots of nature here to explore. The cabin is very comfortable and the view is amazing. My wife and I spent four nights in Serenity recently and had an absolutely wonderful stay. The cabin was what we expected - charming, a rustic and relaxing and most importantly - off the beaten path. We woke up to morning light filtering through the translucent roof, had breakfast on the deck amongst coastal redwoods, found the creek and waterfall below the cabin, and set off on daily adventures up and down the coast. My wife loved ending each day with a soak in outdoor cast iron tub! The location couldn't be better suited for exploring Carmel and Big Sur. The property owners were fantastic, both through email and upon arrival, we would certainly recommend this location to family and friends. We will most definitely return for another visit.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My husband and I were looking for someplace private, romantic, off the beaten path, budget-friendly, and pet-friendly to celebrate our 1st anniversary together. No small feat in the Big Sur/Carmel area where average hotel rooms cost $300+ a night. However, we knew we found something special when we came across Rosehaven. The property sits 4 miles directly off Hwy 1 in Carmel- down a windy road (not far from the Bixby Bridge and Rocky Point restaurant) that takes you deep into the Redwood forest. There are 2 cabins nestled down a long driveway even further in the forest. The cabins are within eye sight of each other but far enough away to offer some privacy. The owners Doug and Donna were very friendly and welcoming. They gave my husband and I (and our pooch) a brief rundown on a few things, answered some questions about hiking, and after that, we didn't see them again. The cabins have similar personalities but with different details: the Serenity cabin is further down the driveway and therefore a bit more private, while the Morning Lite sits higher above the ground and is quite bright & airy (we stayed in the Morning Lite cabin). Everything was very clean and tidy when we arrived. I loved the personal details like all the candles (so pretty at night), tons of pillows, electric blanket, and local art. The sound of the bubbling brook outside was a nice touch too. The cabin came fully equipped with all the little things you might need- pots & pans, charcoal grill (bring your own briquettes!), coffee maker, towels, dog toys, and even bubble bath and bathrobes. We felt like this place was a magical little oasis just for us. It was so quiet and majestic. It was far enough from the ocean that we felt like we really got to experience the Redwood Forest, but not far enough where we felt too far away to really explore Big Sur and the coast. The outdoor bathroom was pure genius! What a fun and unique characteristic. Taking a bubble bath under the stars with a glass of wine was blissful. I can see how showering outside might be at bit chilly during winter months- but that just adds to the adventure. The cherry on top was that it was pet friendly (but didn't smell pet friendly). We love to bring our pooch with us when we travel so that really sealed the deal for us (there are several dog friendly beaches nearby). We can't wait to return and luckily, because Doug and Donna have chosen to keep the cost low, we will be able to do that soon.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.

We stayed at this cabin last may and it was absolutely perfect. The cabin itself is very cozy and nestled in the woods. You truly feel like you are one with nature, especially when using the bathroom and shower on the deck (pretty awesome!). After one night here we were so relaxed and recharged we felt like we had been gone a week. Definitely not for everyone, but if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful and secluded getaway, it doesn't get any better. And it's still close enough to everything you might want to do that you won't get bored.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with young children.
