Jamestown house description
Jamestown, Rhode Island is New England's best kept secret. And what better way to discover it than with another family (or two) in our spacious, bright, Victorian home. The house sits on a high bank over a large front lawn, ideal for badminton or croquet. From the spacious covered front porch you can sit in comfort and watch the panorama of Narragansett Bay: the colorful spinnakers of regatta sailboats racing down wind, the towering sails of the 12 meter boats from bygone America’s Cup races, and ferries on their way to Block Island and Martha’s Vineyard. In front of you is the quaint Conanicut Marina, and the main street of Jamestown village is a mere block away. A mile north, the Newport Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in New England, soars over the bay, glittering lights at night, connecting Jamestown to historic Newport with its famed colonial architecture and turn-of-the-century mansions.
A short walk from the small-town charm of Jamestown’s shops, galleries, excellent restaurants (including a fantastic brick oven bakery,) children's playground, and local library, the house’s location also provides an easy drive to the public beach, a local glass blower's shop (and demonstrations), and even watercolor lessons at nearby Watson's Farm. Or you can leave your car behind and catch the ferry to historic Newport from the village.
This middle house of the historic “Three Sisters” Victorian-style homes is ideal for a two or three-family shared vacation or a family reunion. With easy access to the village, tweens and teenagers alike can be independent, leaving you to luxuriate on the front porch. And with a protected, large front lawn, the younger children can run amok while staying in view.

Perfect House for Family Get Together (with small kids)
Perfect House for Family Get Together (with small kids)
We had an amazing week staying at this house! The accessibility to the Main Street was perfect for all our needs. The use of the kayaks was great to bring across the street to the water and enjoy! Plus, the property being dog friendly was a huge plus for us! We could just take him across the street to swim near the Marina. The owners were great about helping to provide information prior to us getting there and upon arrival we were SO thrilled with our choice. Many hours docked on the front patio together and the outdoor shower was such a plus. With 3 small children and 6 adults, there was ample space for everyone with the three floors of living. We would come back in a heartbeat and was so pleased with the quaint nature of Jamestown. The local restaurants were delicious and accessibility to local beaches made for a perfect location for us to spend a week all together! Enjoy this gem, as we did!

A comfortable family house
A comfortable family house
My family and I (all 13 of us) just returned from a delightful week in the "Middle Sister" in Jamestown. This was our first time in Jamestown and in this house, but I have a feeling it will now become an annual family reunion site for us. The house is the kind of place that feels like home after just a few minutes. Everything you need in the town - shopping; the ferry to Newport; local restaurants - are all just a short walk away. The view from the front porch is wonderful. And the owners are flexible, easy to deal with and reliable. The real clincher for me personally were several happy days spent wandering around the sites in Newport, followed by an afternoon of superb sailing in the bay, followed by a quiet ferry ride home to Jamestown. We all want to go back next year.

Our extended family spent a long anniversary weekend at this home last year. Central to Jamestown, it has a stunning panoramic view of the harbor from the deck and quick access to beaches, scenic walks and great restaurants. Easily fit the 12 of us. Hedged front yard great for Bocce or balsa wood plane flying and outdoor shower was a welcome touch. Going again this year. 5 minutes from the bridge into Newport.

Owner response: Thanks for this great review. Really appreciate the time you took to write one. We're thrilled to get return renters who already know what a special place Jamestown is. Happy 2012!
This was our first time renting in Jamestown and we were pleasantly surprised with the quaintness of the village that was within walking distance. Our 10 girl friends gathered here to celebrate our 50th birthday and had a delightful stay. The accommodations were fabulous, not only was the house spacious but having all those bathrooms was a treat for the ladies. We spent most of our time on the front porch enjoying the view, but we also loved the outdoor shower, the use of the bikes for touring and the overall character of the house. The owners we found to be very courteous and responsive. A true jewel of a house that we would highly recommend.

I rented this house for the 4th time this summer. Needless to say we love it, as we keep coming back. Jamestown is quiet and easy to get around but also has all that you'll need (great restaurants, groceries, fish store, bakeries, liquor and the bead store and ice cream for your youngsters and teens) for a quick visit or a full week. I love that we can basically let our kids roam free with no worries. The house is wonderful and spacious, providing family togetherness and privacy. The porch is a dream, and where we spend virtually every moment if we're not out beaching, site seeing, or sleeping. The house is well equipped and the perfect spot to share with your extended family or many friends. The family from whom we rent are friendly and responsive to our needs and requests. Who could ask for more? I recommend this vacation spot without hesitation.

Our family rented this house in July and had a wonderful time. The house is beautifully equipped and Jamestown is a jewel of a town. There are so many great family activities, that is, if you can tear yourself away from the view on the front porch. We have rented a lot of houses in a lot of different locations and I would highly recommend this experience! The family owners were a pleasure to do business with.

Year Purchased: 1960
About the owner: I live in South Orange, New Jersey with my husband and two children. I work as a film and photo researcher. I own the home in Jamestown, RI with my two sisters and brother.
Why the Owner Chose Jamestown:
My parents bought this three story "cottage" in 1960. They were visiting old family friends, had no intention of buying anything there, but fell in love with the island and found the perfect house. While the island has been discovered for its natural beauty on Narragansett Bay and close proximity to historic Newport, it still maintains a wonderful small town feel. While there are wonderful restaurants, beautiful walks, excellent shops and recreation, there is never a sense of crowding. Local residents are friendly and happy to share the island's fascinating history with all comers.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
A wonderfully spacious, light, airy house that feels cozy like a home; a front porch that you may never want to leave; a 3 minute walk to shops, restaurants, and boats (and ferry to Newport.) Plus an enclosed outdoor shower for those who like to stay under the stars!
