Casa de Azucar (House of Sugar) is a brand new house right on the beach in Rio Indio/Majahual. The house is set up perfectly for a family to stay on their own private beach. The 2nd floor has a master suite and a bunk bed room. So a family can all stay on the 2nd floor with the kitchen and a great deck to eat breakfast or dinner as you take in the view of the ocean. If you have more people in your party, the house has 2 additional bedrooms on the ground level each with their own queen bed, with private access to the beach. The house is ideal for 1 or 2 families to enjoy a Mexico beach vacation.

The beach house is a private home located 6 miles north of Majahual – considered the number one cruise ship destination in Mexico during 2007.
The beaches are powder white sand protected by a coral reef just 250 yards off shore. Ideal for swimming and sun bathing. Area is known for world class snorkeling and diving. The reef in front of the property has a large number of beautiful coral heads if you take the time to find them. Snorkeling and dive trips also available in nearby Majahual. Many restaurants and shops are available with more every day. Diving and fishing tours are available.

The home itself is fully self contained with solar electric, gas stove and hot water. Drinking water is bottled and supplied with the house. The house includes maid service and linens. This is a new privately owned house available for the 1st time in the winter of 2010-11. The interior consists of a lovely open contemporary Mexican design with festive tile and native wood throughout the home. In addition, a roof top deck with 360 degrees views of the ocean and lagoons. There is no better place to watch the sunrise or sunset with coffee or a cocktail in hand.

You will find the perfect combination of activities native to the land with the relaxation of your own private home and beach. Great for families or a few families to spend time together on the beach. Please feel free to email or call me with any questions about the property. Also make sure that you check out the photos - the place is visually stunning.

Wow! My girlfriend and I spent a week at the house this past spring. We were looking for a mix of chill, beach, sun, a bit of work, and solitude. It had everything and then some. Plan on waking up early to the most amazing sunrises- Go for a run, ocean dip, breakfast on the rooftop patio, and start your day in heaven. We did some kayaking, paddle boarding ( tried!) and swam a few times a day. We went into town on a few occasions to get a taste for the local flavor. We found our " local" spot with ease and ended up getting to know the owners. Everyone is so friendly and spirited. The house itself is great for just a couple, or I can see how families would love it. I enjoyed actually cooking for my GF in the big kitchen, while we danced and played tunes from the vast music collection. The owners and property managers were always available and made sure we had everything we needed to soak up our stay. If I had to do it again, I'd work on my balance for the boards and stay a lot longer! Hope to come back again soon. Gracias!

We stayed at Casa Azucar for 10 days in Jan/Feb and loved it. There were two families who shared the house and it worked perfectly. Our two girls loved it (age 3 and 4) and two babies (7 months both) as well. The house was perfectly equipped, right on the beach and well taken care of. We loved the grocery truck that came on Thursdays and Sundays and so did the kids. The only complaint was that the crazy winds caused a lot of seaweed and trash to wash up on the beach. However, the owners arranged for the care taker to sweep the beach every day. Due to the weather, the waves were a bit stronger than we thought. But, it didn't slow us down and we enjoyed every second of it. I would definitely return and recommend to anyone with small children as a great place to stay. They even had a Pack and Play and a highchair, which would have been a pain to lug all the way down there. Thanks again! We loved it and will be back again.

WOW!!! What a great vacation! We rented this home for a family retreat with our adult children and grandchildren a total of 11 in all! What we got was far beyond what our expectations were! What we found was a beautiful family friendly 4 Bedroom home with the ocean for a backyard with our own private beach and miles of shoreline to explore! Just outside our doors we snorkeled, kayaked, gathered sea shells and sea glass, swam, windsurfed, had a bonfire and topped it off with massages on the beach! It truly was a slice of heaven!! Casa Azucar offers tremendous privacy which is what we were looking for. Then, when you are ready for some shopping, pubs, eateries or just people watching you are about 15-20 minutes from town. Cruise ships visit the town 2-3 times per week. Lay on the beach and watch the rest of the wold go by. Then, when you're ready - go back to your own little hide-away! We will be making many more trips back to Casa Azucar with our family! We hope this review helps you make the right decision and book this "little slice of heaven" you won't regret it! Kudos to the owners for providing such a beautiful home to share with the world! Steve & Susan Loman Carmel, Indiana

I can't say enough positive about this property in the Mahahual, Mexico. I'd seen the pictures in the listing, but really didn't know what to expect.  In short, Casa Azucar was everything our family could have hoped for and much more.  The best way I can describe the experience is to compare it with the experience of a fine restaurant -- in this case every detail of the design and layout and furnishings and accessories have been carefully crafted for your optimum vacation home experience.  Okay, so it's clear we loved the place. Here are some of the details: • Location -- The best part for me was being truly "off the grid" here; when I was relaxing on the beach here I may as well have been on Gilligan's Island as there was zero chance of having the real world find me.  The house is perfectly isolated on a bend in the shoreline with just a single home adjacent to the South. To the North about 300 meters are beautiful coral formations for snorkeling. Up the sandy beach road about 4km there are a collection of bungalo properties called the "Myan Beach Gardens," the owners of which manage Casa Azucar.  • Amenities -- I'm a guy. I loved the 6 pack of beer in the fridge on arrival, the nice sound system for the upstairs with CD player (and CDs!), the flat screen TV with DVDs, and the WiFi and even cell service (which my office didn't need to know about). My wife loved the built-in furniture and the finishings and accessories, and the beautiful kitchen. We both were very surprised how large the home is.  • Activities -- Relaxing, Snorkeling, Scuba, Swimming with Dolphins, the town of Mahahual, Myan ruins, Nature preserve... we need to go back! • Support -- Marcia and Mike at Myan Beach Gardens manage the property and are just up the road. If you like, you can eat dinner there or they can arrange a cook for you. And they can help you with arrangements for any of the activities listed above. This was our first trip venturing to the Southern beach areas of Mexico, and we couldn't have been happier.  We stayed for 8 days total, spending one night in the beautiful town of Tulum on the way in. As "newbie" travelers to the region and non-fluent Spanish speakers, we felt very safe and never felt threatened. We found the locals to be very friendly and the vast majority were good Spanglish or English speakers. We loved our trip to Majahahual. It's not for everyone. If you think it might be for you, think about staying at Casa Azucar. For us, it was about perfect.

Owner response: We are so glad to hear you had a great time. We truly do hope all guests enjoy that you can get away and have your own private beach, but yet also have a fun vibrant cruise ship town a short 15-20 minutes away.

Dear Melissa and Aaron, We had an enjoyable get-away vacation at your wonderful house, Casa de Azucar, near Mahahual. The drive from Cancun is easy and a straight shot. Casa de Azucar as a home is beautiful, modern and comfortable. The spacious house has enough room to easily accommodate two families. All of your neighbors are very friendly and helpful. The lounging area on the roof of your house is the perfect place for drinks while enjoying sunsets and ocean views. A couple of nights we stayed in at Casa de Azucar and cooked dinner. We had breakfast at the house every morning, which saved a lot of time. Grocery shopping in Mahahual is easy and a fun adventure. We snorkeled everyday just a short walk down the beach from your house. The reef is amazing and colorful. We loved keeping track of all sea creatures we saw underwater. The kids kept journals with many sketches of the aquatic life. The nearby Mayan ruins were highly recommended by many people. However, they will have to wait for our next visit since we spent all of our time in the ocean. Mahahual is a lovely coastal village just a short drive from the house. It is a sleepy little fishing village in the evenings when the cruise ships are out of port. As you know, Mahahual is an exciting place filled with tourists, fun and music when the cruise ships are visiting town. Fernando at Fernando’s 100% Agave is our favorite host when dining in town. There are several restaurants in town that served very good food, including Italian and, of course, sea food. We were not able to try every restaurant in town so we left a few to explore on our next visit. Thank you for putting us in touch with Marcia at the Mayan Beach Garden. She is a valuable resource. We also enjoyed our meals at the Mayan Beach Garden, which included Thanksgiving and Monday Night Football with crab racing. We had a great time socializing with the friendly and entertaining expatriates and hearing their stories of how they ended up in Mexico. We enjoyed our time very much and look forward to our next visit. Thank you for all of your help and advice. Cheers,

Owner response: Thanks Jim, your review is exactly what we strive for. We want our house to be the perfect beach home for families, I know it is for ours. You have your own private beach and all that comes with that, but then yet town is close enough for all of your city needs. We hope you come back soon.

We recently returned from a week at Casa de Azucar and are already planning our next trip down. We saw the pictures on VRBO, but they honestly do not do the property justice. It is a beautiful home, tall ceilings and georgous tile throughout. The home is very comfortably decorated and designed, and we especially loved enjoying the sunsets from the roof top (taking in ocean views from the back and lagoon views off the front). Of course the best part of the property is being able to walk out of your bedroom and onto your own private beach, complete with palapas, hammmocks, and turqouise blue water for swimming and snorkling. This truely is a little slice of heaven! We took our 7 year old daughter with us on this trip, and I don't think she has ever had so much fun. I was a bit concerned that it may be a too "remote", especially with children, but we felt completely safe and never ran out of activities to keep her occupied. The highlight of the trip was finding 50-60 baby green sea turtles that had become inadvertantly trapped in cinder blocks on the property and rescuing them by setting them free in the ocean; this was an experience my daughter (and myself) will never forget. There is also a fantastic reef right off of the beach, where we spotted rays, lion fish, and a huge array of tropical fish. The water was warm and inviting, and the kids enjoyed hunting for sea glass and shells for hours. I would recommend a rental car to easily access the property and to be able to do some fantastic sightseeing/day trips. One day we visited Dzibanche, beautiful Mayan ruins complete with howler monkeys! We also enjoyed the short 10 minute drive into Mahuhual, which is a darling little Mexican town catering to cruise ship tourists. We so enjoyed people watching during the afternoon, and even more so enjoyed watching them all head back to their ships around 5pm and leaving the whole town to us! It is fun to have a place to go in and enjoy fish bowl margaritas and the best ceviche I have ever had, and to be able to pick up some souvenirs and fresh seafood for dinner. I hope to have convinced you to visit Casa de Azucar and experience this place for yourself, as I'm sure you will not be disappointed!

I loved my stay here. I don't know where to start, but the house is perfect. Lots of room for adults and kids. Kitchen was a great hang out and rooms were nice. Outdoor roof was great for sunsets and cocktails. The kids loved the gental waves and turtles The best part is the beach with the clam waves, ocean breeze, and great snorkling at the reef. If you need to see some people Mahahual is only 15 minutes away and you can get all you need there, like milk, booze, and fresh fish. Great day trips also with fly fishing for Bonefish and Permit only a fun 2 house beach road away. Plus Ruins and cenotes. I can't wait to book my next trip back. Very modern with water, power, and a lots of style.

                      Why the Owner Chose Mahahual:
We have always wanted a beautiful and remote beach house in Mexico. This house allows us all of the privacy we could ever want, with a growing and vibrant city less than 10 miles away. This part of Mexico is truly untouched and will amaze anyone who sees it.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
You will be in a remote location where your family and your family alone can enjoy your own private beach, snorkel right off the beach, fish the ocean or the lagoon behind the house.
