My husband and I just returned from a nice weekend at your cabin and although we can see how much fun it would be there in the warmer months.... it made an excellent Winter get away as well. We loved the large stone fireplace and had a nice fire going while we settled in to read and watch TV in the comfortable living room. The river view was excellent, and yes the stream running under the porch can be heard. It's not just a Summer place.... we enjoyed our Winter visit.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks, likewise its always been a debate with us also, which is better? Enjoying a good book in front of a fire with the fragrance of bread rising in the winter or tubing down the river, eating the raspberries, and taking a nature walk in the summer. We're glad you enjoyed the former, now we hope you can enjoy the latter. We recommend more research. Thanks again

My wife and I took a short trip from Charlotte, NC up to the New RIver this past weekend. We were looking for a place where we could also take our dog, who LOVES the water. We found it. From the moment we stepped inside, this place was heaven. Fully stocked with a waterfall and creek running under the property. When you read that you can pull the futon onto the porch, it is certainly true. My wife is pregnant with twins and she spent many hours out on the porch napping in the breeze. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation getaway, this is it. The owner (Buck) even called on our way out and said that because no one was coming behind us, we could stay longer into the day.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: Sharing our place is a real joy. Our guests are the greatest. Likewise the big porch is my favorite place to relax, read and watch the sunset. I just wish my Mom had had the the cabin when she was pregnant with twins back in 1949. Please come again. The younger twin. Buck

My husband and I decided to take a last minute vacation over the recent 4th of July holiday weekend. Lucky for us, the New River house was available during that time! We had a wonderful time! A little piece of heaven was this great house on this gorgeous large piece of property. The flowers and the landscapte were gorgeous, and the house had all the comforts of home(and the sleeping porch was great!) No matter the time of day, there was always a cool breeze that blew thru the porch, which also had a peaceful/relaxing creek that ran underneath, creating a very peaceful setting for just laying on the swing and reading or hanging out in the rocking chairs just talking and enjoying the fantastic view of the river and the many canoes and kayaks that were constanting paddling down stream. When we wanted to enjoy the sun, we would use the uncovered large deck on the front of the house, which also shared the great view of the river. Our stay was very relaxing, as well as active since there was plenty of outdoor activities nearby to keep us busy :-) Great house, great view, and lots to do! Can't wait to visit again in the fall - I'm sure the fall foliage will be just gorgeous!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you and thanks to our great weather pattern ( it comes down from Canada) it normally is 15-20 degrees cooler than in other areas of NC Mountains & yes the Fall is wonderful.

We had a great time at the cabin over July 4th weekend and will be returning as much as possible. The cabin is perfectly located for kayaking and is within short distances to several boat launch locations (upstream). Easy access to the water in the front yard was an added bonus for kayak take-out. The sleeping porch was spacious with the wonderful running stream that makes for good sleep. We can't wait to return in the fall when the leaves turn (or even sooner!).Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The cabin is absolutely stunning with a wonderful little brook running right underneath. Great place for hanging out (reading, watching the river, etc) and 30 minutes away from state park hiking and other activities. For kayaking on the river, the nearest public take out point is pretty far downstream so plan carefully. Just two downsides, the shower handle upstairs broke while we were there, and there was very little water pressure during showers or washing dishes. All in all, a wonderful place for a very reasonable price.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, pet owners, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
Owner response: We are glad to report that once the plumbers returned from their 4th of July vacations we were able to quickly have both the shower handle and the water pressure switch fixed. Now there is plenty of water for that relaxing hot shower.

This beautiful, private river house is a perfect two-hour drive from Charlotte. The decor is understated elegance with comfortable furniture and has a welcoming feel to it. Although there are things to do in nearby Sparta, NC or Independence, VA, my husband and I found that after unpacking the car we didn't want to leave this place until we had to return home. You can read a book or just sit on the porch and watch kayakers go down the river. It rained while we were there and a very nice surprise was the soothing sound of water running down the stream under the porch ... peaceful sleep. We look forward to our next visit.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.
