Above-average, Comfortable Home
Above-average, Comfortable Home
We stayed in The Dacha for our two-family traditional Thanksgiving celebration. The home is roomy and well stocked with above-average appliances, cooking utensils, and furniture. We all agreed the beds were very comfortable. The home is well built as there were no drafts and we could not hear the cars driving by on the road. Beach access is not very far and the town of Bandon is close enough for a day of perusing. We lacked for nothing, other than more time to stay longer.

The Dacha Delivers Delights
The Dacha Delivers Delights
The first snow has fallen in Billings, Montana, but our wonderful stay in the Dacha last August still elicits warm memories! At every turn we felt pampered by the finest attention to details from the architecture to the furnishings to the linens. Would it have been nicer to be right on the beach? Certainly...but every afternoon and evening the view from right across the street provided an ocean view with just the right ambience for sipping Umpqua Valley wine and nibbling cheese & crackers or luscious fudge from Bandon's own fudge shop while watching golden sunsets. The back deck provided a cozy spot for morning tea while the sun rose overhead. We made use of the grill for evening meals, buying tasty fresh fish from Bandon's dock. The ground-level patio was a sheltered place in the sun (or shade) with a nice view of the mature landscaped yard. The walk to the beach was easy, but there is a parking lot near the beach access path for those who wish to drive with lots of beach gear. Our guests were as impressed with the house as we were, and they were very appreciative of the private quarters downstairs. We only needed two of the four bedrooms, but we could see what a perfect set-up this would be for two families. Bandon Beach is our favorite on the Oregon Coast. The Dacha delivered all the delights it promised. First class all the way!

Ahhh, the Dacha!
Ahhh, the Dacha!
Ahhh, the Dacha! A lovely vacation rental. The Dacha was clean, comfortable, modern, and environmentally friendly. The quality and care the owner took in decorating and furnishing this rental for the guests is exceptional. I felt like I was walking into a "Coastal Living" magazine picture. Luxurious linens, stainless steel cookware and utensils, leather and wood furniture, teak outdoor furniture all provided for a very nice relaxed vacation. We loved having an ocean view, not only from the spacious dining area and living room, but also from the master bedroom. It was nice to have the kitchen area open to the living room (no division of walls). The dining area included a glass sliding door which lead out onto a balcony all along the front of the Dacha where we were able to enjoy the ocean view and rejuvenate ourselves by taking in the fresh coastal air. The sitting area downstairs also has an ocean view, as does one of the downstairs bedrooms. I thought the nicely kept landscape in front of the Dacha provided additional beauty to the ocean view from downstairs. Beach access was within walking distance from the Dacha. After returning from our long walks on the beach we were able to relax on a soft leather sofa in front of a fireplace which we started by flipping a switch (I love modern technology). The big screen television and wifi was nice to have available. The upper back deck looks out onto the backyard which includes a lawn, mature trees and foliage, and a great area where children would enjoy exploring while remaining on the Dacha property. We were able to enjoy the beauty of Oregon while staying at the Dacha (hence, no driving necessary once I was there); on the west facing (front) side of the Dacha property I could enjoy the coastal Oregon and on the east facing (back) side I could enjoy the woodlands of Oregon. The foliage around the patio in the backyard provided a private sitting area. Parking our vehicle in a garage at the Dacha was a nice bonus. An additional convenience was Bandon Bill's restaurant, also in walking distance from the Dacha, and downtown Bandon is close by. We are definitely looking forward to another coastal vacation at the Dacha.

Great place for adults.
Great place for adults.
My family stayed at the Dacha for Thanksgiving holiday last year. There were some good points and some not so good points to our stay, as with any rental. I hope that my review helps make your decision easier. The Dacha offers high-quality features and amenities. The bedroom and bath linens are of brands such as Calvin Klein and Pottery Barn; the kitchen made up mostly of Crate and Barrel. You can see that providing a top of the line experience was what they had in mind. There was plenty of space available for our 20 adults + kids group for dinner (there was room for a second table to be added as there is one dining table offered at the house that seats 10? people). The bamboo flooring was lovely and I'm a huge supporter of environmentally friendly choices, but it was perhaps not the best choice for this beach house rental. We had such a large group for dinner, making the no shoes allowed rule such a bother. Coming back in the house was always a bummer. It's a great rental if you don't go in and out all day. The view was OK for not being right on the beach. You can see the ocean, from between the two houses across the street, from the master bedroom as well as the kitchen, living and dining rooms. I don't think we were able to see the ocean from downstairs. Having a downstairs sitting area turned out to be good for the few kids at Thanksgiving; they watched TV and played games down there. The desk and WIFI were also nice to have, as we did have one college student needing to do homework during the stay. The listing claims a large deck with BBQ. The largest deck is at the front of the house, while the BBQ sits on a smaller deck at the back of the house, off the kitchen, with a small 4 person table. I think additional seating should be made available on the large front balcony. Lastly, though it was a small deposit for house full of such expensive amenities, it was difficult to negotiate the return of it. The owner designed and supplied the house without reserve. The drawbacks of that being that if you find a broken glass or a spot on a rug, it's a big deal. I recommend that you go through the house upon arrival and note any faults. The property management should know about these ASAP, for your own good. If your desire is to stay at a home that goes the extra mile for you, this is the place. My family has enjoyed many Bandon beach and lake houses over the years and this was by far the nicest. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay.

Year Purchased: 2008
About: I discovered the beauty of Bandon, Oregon, in 2004, when I traveled west to visit family. After more than a decade living and working in Moscow, Russia, I wanted to have some roots in the US and a place for family and friends to visit. I bought some land and built a house on the ocean in 2006, commuting to Bandon from downtown Manhattan, where I was working in financial services after returning from Russia, to oversee construction. In the spring of 2008, I abandoned city life for good and moved to Bandon to live full time. Later that year, I purchased a foreclosure - a diamond in the rough with great ocean views - and undertook a full renovation of the house and lot, working to incorporate as many green features as possible. I am particularly interested in green building and look forward to more projects to help with the 'greening' of Bandon.
Bandon is developing a first-rate infrastructure for golfers, families and all kinds of visitors. The spectacular golf courses at Bandon Dunes have brought new investment to the area, convenient non-stop flights from San Francisco and Portland, and more awareness of what the town has to offer. The beauty of Bandon's beaches is really unparalleled and prestigious Beach Loop Drive, where my vacation rental, The Dacha, is located loops and winds around some of the most breathtaking ocean views I've ever seen. I bought my vacation rental property as a long-term investment and hope it will provide lasting and wonderful memories of Bandon to all of its visitors.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
From the Dacha, you can walk to the beach (3 minutes), go next door to play golf at Bandon's in-town 9-hole course, Old Bandon Golf Links, or dine at Bandon Bill's, a full service bar and restaurant with stunning ocean views that's also next door at the Best Western hotel, The Inn at Face Rock. Horseback riding on the beach is a short walk. Everything else - Bandon's Old Town, Bandon Dunes and Bandon Crossings golf courses - is a few minutes drive.
