Wow- an outstanding vacation home in an idyllic setting! The pictures do not do it justice. We were in Ithaca for my son's graduation form Cornell, and the house was quite comfortable for the ten of us, including extended family members. KC and Mitch could not be more accomodating-for instance, on our arrival my wife lamented that we forgot to bring up her favorite Poland Spring water. Mitch overheard this, and upon returing to the house w/ a BBQ lighter, promptly set down a large plastic container of Poland Spring! The home was meticulously clean (as we like it), and has all the creature comforts needed including a large flat panel TV. The kitchen was fully stocked w/ all the latest appliances, cookware and dishware. The property is just far enough away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Ithaca, but easy enough to get there for evenings out. This is simply the way to go, worth every penny!!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our daughter graduated from Ithaca College so we were looking for a place to stay and celebrate with grandparents and other extended family and Clarke's Cottage fit the bill! The house was clean and well equipped for socializing, cooking and sleeping. The outdoor areas--grill, fire pit, lawn--are great and we were lucky to have cooperative weather for the long-weekend to get maximum use of them (the pond is lovely, but wasn't swimable due to algae). The drive back and forth to Ithaca was easy enough (~15 minutes one way). The kitchen is well equipped and we ate most meals in for up to 15 people and never ran out of refrigerator, stove top, or seating space.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

A group of 6 of us just stayed for a long weekend at Clarke's Cottage. The house was super clean, had great amenities and lots of space for our group to hang out. The photos are really accurate and the owners were friendly and helpful. The house is in the country and quiet, but just a short ride away from the Finger Lake wineries and Ithaca where we went to the spa. We enjoyed the hot tub, but the weather didn't cooperate for us to have a fire outside. I'd definetely recommend this property.Recommended for: Girls getaway.

My wife and I and two other couples comfortably made Clarke's Cottage our base for three days of exploration of the Finger Lakes region. The house is just 10 miles from both Ithaca and Watkins Glen - perfect for day trips for hiking and wine tasting. The house itself was more than enough room for three or more couples and it was updated throughout. And the hot tub just steps from the house was a great way to end to the day. We all agreed that we'd stay here again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with young children, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

If you need a few days away and want to visit the wine country in the Finger Lakes, this is a perfect place to stay. This five bedroom large home has it all. We and four other couples decided to share a large rental home rather than stay at a local hotel so that we could enjoy each others company after our winery visits. We cooked breakfast in the incredible kitchen that was so stocked up with dishes, glasses, pots pans and anything else you would need. Two separate living rooms was perfect especially since the Ryder Cup was a must for the men, and some ladies were not really interested. Bedrooms were large and the beds especially comfy. The added touch was the firepit and hot tub on the crisp evening. Nothing like sitting around watching the deer come down to the pond for a drink. I cannot think of one thing to complain about with this rental, other than it was so peaceful and quiet and me coming from a rather noisy area it took some getting use to. All of us couples loved the house and the area. Would love to return some day.Recommended for: Families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+.

Our group of 5 couples stayed at Clarke's Cottage and had a fantastic vacation. The house is as nice as the pictures, very clean and the common areas comfortable and inviting. We returned to the house at every opportunity as it was a great place to relax and enjoy our surroundings. The kitchen accommodates many cooks at once and is very complete. Beds and bedrooms were comfortable. We used it as a base for the Seneca Lake Wine Trail and events at Cornell University. Our dinner in Trumansburg was convenient and delicious. We would all recommend this house to our friends.Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+.

Five Canadian now-retirees have been getting away once a year for the last 25 years and this year's choice was Clarke's Cottage. We all agreed that it is one of the best locations yet. We are very fussy about cleanliness and it rated 5 out of 5 on that count. But what we all kept commenting on was that it felt so comfortable and homey right from the moment we walked in the door. Mitch and KC made sure we got off on the right foot and then let us enjoy their wonderful property. We made use of both the fire pit and the hot tub and spent some time each day exploring the surrounding sites - Cornell University, the fabulous gorges and falls, and the wineries and restaurants. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a wonderful home base in the Finger Lakes.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed at Clark's cottage for a week in July with all the family, three couples and four children. The house was exactly as photographed. Our only problems was the pond which we hoped to swim in, but it was covered with algae, and one day my son found a dead fish. I realize that the owner did his best to keep it clean but it was problematic in a hot summer. The kitchen was terrific, spacious and very well equipped. It was a joy to cook in. This was an unusually hot July for Ithaca region and the air-conditionar had difficulty coping with the heat in some parts of the house. However we did spend an enjoyable week together, and I would recommend this house for a party up to 10. The house itself is rather isolated, and quite a distance from Ithaca and Watkins Glen ( about 15 miles). Thus one has to do shopping and planning well in advance. Trumansburg is closer but does not have the choice of supermarkets, restaurants that are available in the other two towns. Since there was not a swimming pool on the premises the children used the pool at Watkins Glen as the closest.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+.
Owner response: We are delighted that our peaceful country property gave you and your family a great, relaxing vacation. This is exactly what we strive to offer visitors to Clarke's Cottage. We are sorry that Mother Nature gave our area record-breaking heat throughout the Spring and Summer this year, along with virtually no rain. While Hidden Pond is spring-fed, which helps it maintain it's ecosystem and volume of water while other ponds go dry under such conditions, the temperature of the water increased, causing algae to grow and we had a few fish perish due to the heat. Once a break in the weather occurred, we were able to get the conditions back under control, the algae cleared out and the pond is back to it's lovely, inviting self for swimming and rafting on. We believe it is important to note that while the pond was not attractive for swimming for a period of approximately 7 to 10 days this summer, there were plenty of outdoor amenities to enjoy. The hot tub and fire pit are highly popular with guests, as well as the huge expanses of lawn for games of croquet, volleyball, kickball and kite-flying. The outdoor gas barbecue and picnic tables make it hard to choose between outdoor cooking or indoor use of the gourmet kitchen. We greatly appreciate that even with this customer's disappointment about swimming in the pond, they still gave us four stars for their vacation. Thank you for the feedback!

About the owner: Mitch and I moved from Colorado to the beautiful Finger Lakes region to begin another phase of our life together and to be closer to my parents as they are getting older. I grew up in the Buffalo area and Mitch came from the east coast originally, so this was a 'coming back to our roots' move. After several years of searching in three different states, when we found the Finger Lakes we knew this was the place we had always dreamed of. Our love of water sports, lush green forests and a desire for the peaceful country life made Trumansburg an ideal choice. We found a wonderful historic mansion which we renovated into the Halsey House, a luxury bed and breakfast and we never looked back. Mitch and I are avid animal lovers, with six exotic parrots and our beloved rescue dog Tess. Renovating these splendid old houses has become our passion and Mitch is certainly developing his woodworking and cabinetmaking skills here. Someday I hope to get back to my hobby of making quilts, if I could only find the time. When we have the opportunity for a vacation, you will most likely find us in the Caribbean scuba diving.
Why the Owner Chose Ithaca:
This area of upstate NY is known as the Finger Lakes region, and its micro climate gives us milder winters and much less humid summers than other parts of the state. It also makes for a wonderful place for growing grapes. We are surrounded by wineries and vineyards, sandwiched between the Cayuga Wine Trail and the Seneca Lake Wine Trail.
We have sparkling lakes, over a hundred waterfalls, parks, farmland, forests, quaint villages and small cities. Although we are within a half day's drive from many large cities, we are a world away from the bustle and crowds.
Clarke's Cottage is 15 minutes from Ithaca, where Cornell University and Ithaca College bring culture and a vibrant atmosphere. Restaurant choices abound here, including several who specialize in featuring the bounty of the region's local farms.
The charming city of Watkins Glen is also 15 minutes away, with a park along the shores of Seneca Lake, The Glen racetrack, and the not-to-be-missed Watkins Glen State Park. The stunning beauty of this area is apparent through all four seasons, and you can be as active or as relaxed as you choose.
