Our family of 4 stayed at the Swan River Hacienda and absolutely loved it. The house is gorgeous and much more than expected, the property is lovely and the river is inviting. The owners were very helpful and friendly and gave us some extra ideas "for locals only." We did them all and more! We tubed down the river every day and our girls didn't want to stop. Our stay provided fabulous memories for our entire family. Thank you for sharing your home!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Yeah, that is exactly what an owner wants to hear. Thank you and thank you for the referral!

A very enjoyable site for an early-autumn experience on the Swan River. The house is a unique feature in itself being genuine straw-bale construction and Spanish-style and very comfortable. We enjoyed rafting on the river, just a few steps from our door. There are lots of hiking trails to lakes and it's reasonably close to Glacier Park. We found the owners to be friendly and willing to make our stay comfortable and pleasant. A great experience.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, adventure seekers.

A pretty neat place to stay - a good location near the river, a short drive to countless hikes & somewhat secluded. Some VERY nice amenities for the kids (tree house, swing set, the river), and some nice attributes (screened porch, modern appliances & facilities) + spacious sleeping accomodations. The owner was VERY nice & directed us to some local hikes, dining suggestions & other logistics. No complications on the security deposit (I feel I must comment on this as it was mentioned in another review) despite us occupying the home with 4 young kids + a dog (but, then again, I like to think we are conscientious tenants). We had deer in the yard every evening and floated the river every chance we could....the kids LOVED it! I would stay here again. Now, to be fair, here's what I didn't like: The mosquitoes! Some mosquito control MUST be done (they were BRUTAL!). And here's what wasn't up to par: the hot tub didn't work, there were supposed to be tubes for the river, I think the TV in the family room is waaaay too small for the area & for what it cost per night, there should have been some laundry detergent & extra bath soap too! And the gas grill could use a little tune-up! Solution: These items are nit-picking or just a friendly nudge to a well-intentioned owner. I spent $50 on inner-tubes & a pump (oh well, the time was a minor inconvenience & we got our money's worth for the expense), I didn't really plan on using the hot tub anyway (the river was the place to be in the Summer!), and I didn't really watch too much TV anyway because I was on VACATION from the real world! All that being said, just do something (anything) about those mosquitoes and I'm 100% coming back!!! End of the story: a nice place, nice location, nice owner, a few quirks, but nothing was a deal breaker. Thanks for having us!!! I'd recommend your place in a heartbeat!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks for the fun review. We got rid of the problematic hot tub-thankfully. And the mosquitoes were terrible all throughout Montana last summer I could not agree more, and our area was no exception. The large snowpack kept the moisture level up well into the summer contributing to the mosquito presence. We are so happy you and your family enjoyed yourselves. Thank you for the feedback.

The house is definitely beautiful both in construction and setting. However, after leaving we had some unpleasantness that greatly diminished the experience. First of all, in all our VRBO experiences, we have never had someone cash the security deposit check, but this one was cashed. Thus, they had an extra $500 of our money for several months. It took multiple emails to finally get our money back a few weeks after our stay during which time we were questioned about a missing extra sheet (missing when we got there b/c I tried to change the sheets) and stains on the sheets on the master bed (why I was trying to change the sheets in the first place). I thought I was being nice by not bringing them up (we could tell they were clean, but numerous stains) but obviously that was a mistake. We were docked $50 from the deposit. In fairness, my 8 year old had scratched many bug bites and did leave some stains on her twin sheets. However, I think that this is something that people with rental properties need to be able to deal with--I certainly know how to properly treat and clean my sheets. If you are going to be that level of picky about how things are left it seems only fair to do so each time. I feel like we took a hit because of the people before us and we left the house clean and orderly. Lastly, we arrived to a note stating that the hot tub was not working. Again, we didn't feel like we needed to make a big deal about it, but given our security deposit was docked, we are irritated that not having promised amenities didn't result in a discount. Bigfork is a gorgeous area and we would visit again but we would definitely find a different rental property because my trust in the owners was really undermined after our stay.Owner response: Thank you for your input. I am happy you enjoyed your stay in our home. I feel badly about the whole sheet situation. I rely on what my cleaning service tells me. And in regard to the deposit, we always deposit it into the bank. It is a safety measure, ensuring the money will be there if an issue arises. This was the first experience that we had to withhold any funds and was prompted by your suggestion. I am glad you enjoyed your stay overall.

Where do I begin? The home was so much more than expected, it made our trip to Bigfork that much more special and so memorable! Be prepared to completely relax with the sounds of nature and the river right outside your back door. Lovely dinners on the screened in deck, listening to the birds…The kids loved the huge yard and play center but, for sure, the chickens stole the show! How nice to wake up to fresh eggs every morning! We will definitely be back to Bigfork one day and wouldn’t hesitate to stay at the Hacienda. It was amazing!Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Why the Owner Chose Bigfork:
The Montana summer is nearly perfect! That is one of the primary reasons we live here in Bigfork. Plus, you have fine dining and the wilderness at your fingertips.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Bigfork is a great little town with so much to offer. The activities for the kids and adults alike are almost endless. Living on the Swan River and such convenient access to Swan Lake, just up the road is very special. We go to swim in the lake almost every day. Then there is Loon Lake just around the corner, where we ride our bikes and jump in the water to cool off during the summer. The fishing at Loon Lake(and the many other lakes in the area) is really great. Trout can be caught right off the dock.
