Green Bank Estate villa description
Beware! Any other listings of Gun Point on this site are NOT by the owner/ manager and your booking may not valid. Come to us directly here.
A magnificent 5 1/2-acre peninsula is the site of this historic island property. The gated estate remains in the same family and was completely renovated in 2005 to a high standard of updated luxury, reviving the holiday magic enjoyed at Gun Point decades ago. Gun Point's exceptional location within a private estate on this promontory provides a profound sense of peace and solitude. That is not to say that your holiday cannot be filled with fun escapades and adventures, reviving the spirit of Gun Point's past....The very top of Gun Point was long ago used as a cannon emplacement which fired out to sea at pirate ships venturing too near the coastline! Now a nature trail leads to this serene and breezy spot for cocktails at sunset, with superb sea views of passing yachts and green islets and cays. This very English estate was built in 1969 around Gun Point's original 18th-century gunpowder store; as there were no roads in those days, all building materials had to be brought in by sea to Gun Point's jetty and then trotted to the site by a donkey named Liz. Nowadays you can just wander down the path from the pool deck to the same private jetty and swim or snorkel in the pristine ocean among the vibrant reef and sea-life....see brain coral, elk-horn coral, parrot fish, needle fish, blue and yellow tang, angel fish to name but a few, and if you are lucky the occasional turtle or lobster....Or rent some kayaks or stand-up paddle-boards to cruise around.....Now that's the stuff holiday memories are made of! There is a little boat house by the dock which makes a perfect spot for a romantic sunset drink on it's rooftop deck. A separate path leads to the east and down to Smugglers Cove, one of the most sheltered beaches on the North Shore, ideal for children and anyone not craving the excitement of the world-class surf at nearby Apple Bay.
Most importantly, Gun Point's renovation was designed to make the villa a relaxing and comfortable space for families and friends to gather and spend quality time together......with that in mind, the spaces flow easily into each other so that everyone can mingle and chat as they cook, dine, sun-bathe, read, swim, play board games or anything else they choose. The decor throughout is calming, comfortable and 'beachy', offering no formal pretensions. The gardens are well established and feature indigenous plants throughout....colourful bougainvillea and oleander, night-scented jasmine, soothing aloe plants and beautiful frangipani to name but a few.
The Villa itself is comprised of 2 buildings. Enter the glass front doors to a spacious living room and kitchen. The living room has a 33' flat screen TV with cable and DVD player. There is also a Sonos dock connected to Bose speakers inside and on the porch. The kitchen has stainless steel appliances, a wine cooler and a large sociable island which is ideal for chatting and hanging out while preparing a fabulous lunch or dinner. The two sets of large sliding doors open out to the covered porch which runs the length of the building. Here can be found the gas grill, informal dining table which seats up to 12 and comfortable seating arrangements for relaxing in the shade. (Also a perfect space for in-house massages and spa treatments!) The pool deck and infinity-edge, low-chemical pool are just a few steps down and offer cushioned teak sun-loungers and a fresh-water shower. This entire side of the property looks out over the pool deck to a stunning view of Jost Van Dyke and various little islands on the horizon, near and far.
In true eccentric English form the bedrooms have all been named....From the covered porch, you can enter Union, (the Master Suite) which has a mahogany king size bed, AC, cable TV, en-suite bathroom with shower and a private deck with a couple of chairs for a little alone time.
Also accessed from the porch is the second bedroom, Jack, which has 2 twin beds which can be made up as a king. It has AC, en-suite bathroom with shower, and a door and short corridor connecting it to the master suite which makes it ideal for parents with young children.
The original stone pathway leads from the front door to the guest house just a few yards away. Here is found the rest of the accommodation, all overlooking Smugglers Cove and up along the North Shore of Tortola.....
Fish has a king size bed, AC, en-suite bathroom with shower and a wall of glass doors leading to a quiet, private covered porch with seating for 2, overlooking Smugglers Cove.
Chips (the 4th bedroom) is identical in layout to Fish but has twin beds which can be made up as a king.
Salt is the 5th bedroom and is accessed through Chips and shares the bathroom with Chips. This makes it ideal for parents with young children or for a nanny and children to stay in these 2 rooms. Salt has a full-size bed and AC.
Pepper is the 6th 'bedroom'. It has been converted from an office downstairs from Fish and Chips and is smaller than the other bedrooms. It has a full-size bed, AC and a small 1/2 bath. The shower is private but is accessed outside the room a few steps away at the other end of the building.
Background on the BVIs....The majority of the Virgin Islands were formed by intense volcanic activity millennia ago. They are steep-sided with tall, forest-covered hills which form a beautiful backdrop of green.
Tortola is around 12 miles long and 2 miles wide. White-sand beaches and over 40 miles of crystal clear water surround it. The Gun Point villa is located on private land at the western end of the island. West End Ferry Terminal is just 10 minutes away, perfect if you are arriving by ferry or water-taxi from St Thomas. Opposite the ferry dock we have the beautiful Soper's Hole Marina (also just 10 minutes away), which offers a waterside restaurant, well-stocked grocery store and the best gift shopping on the island. This is the best spot for day-sails and boat rental pick-ups.
To the East is Long Bay, a mile-long white sand beach (5 minute drive), and Apple Bay (10 minute drive) for the avid surfers! There are many good restaurants within 15 minutes drive, choose from fine-dining at The Sugar Mill, low-key authentic West-Indian dishes at Palm's Delight, best sunset views on the island at Bananakeet....and everything inbetween!
Please don't hesitate to call or email with any questions. We manage Gun Point and live on island so we can arrange cars, provisioning, boat trips, water taxis, chefs, spas services and anything else you can think of that Tortola has to offer! We are able to coordinate yoga retreats, weddings or any other gathering you can think of.

My party of eight friends just spent a delightful week at Gun Point (Nov 10 to 18). Most of the compliments I would list have been made in other reviews, but a few points stand out: This villa really lends itself to just hanging out and doing nothing much, thanks to spectacular views, a deck with various areas for lounging and conversation, a nice sandy beach close by, the infinity pool and, importantly, the grassy areas that reinforce the feeling of being on a spacious private estate – which of course Gun Point actually is. I expected we would eat out a lot but we only dined out once (in Cane Garden Bay, with steel band duo; anyone new to the islands should hear a live steel band at least once, so that was a hit). Partly because the ladies were excellent cooks but also because Gun Point is so relaxing that one is in no hurry to leave it for somewhere else. Similarly, we did not do many excursions – just a day sail on a catamaran based at Sopers Hole. The West End is the only part of Tortola I know, but between the villa, the beach (Smugglers Cove), the bays along the north west shore (Apple Bay, Carrot Bay, Cane Garden Bay) and the marina at Sopers Hole with nice cafes and decent grocery shopping, it feels like a self-sufficient island of its own where one doesn’t feel like a tourist, even though one is. No need to venture into Road Town that I could see. The pharmacy perhaps. Management: great job by JC and Sam (Samantha) Pierce. JC is in perpetual motion, fixing stuff and generally helping out. Must be hard work but he never seems to lose his cool. Overall: top marks all round.

Amazing Family Vacation
Amazing Family Vacation
My family and I had the most amazing week at Gun Point. We didnt know what to expect and when we walked in the front door we were all awe struck. Everything was just the way an island vacation should be and the views are SPECTACULAR! In our family there were 7 adults and 3 children and it was perfect for all of us. The kids loved exploring the property and loved the pool...and Chef Wendy was amazing. She cooked us a fabulous dinner every night! The only advice would be to bring bug spray / get candles because there are mosquitoes but you get that anywhere in the caribbean. Any activity we wanted to do or if we couldnt figure out how to turn on the radio or the AC wasnt working great in one of the rooms, JC was there to help us and came to our rescue. We loved this property so much that we are returning this year! 6 more weeks...cant wait!!

Gun Point is an absolutely beautiful, well maintained property. We spent a week at the property in June 2013. The property offers many locations to just relax and watch the passing sail boats go by and the pelicans fly. Easy access to Smuggler's Cove (I'd walk via the road, steep but easier) for a great beach. Lots of snorkeling equipment and beach towels available. While on the island, definitely take a day sail out to see other islands and do some snorkeling!

A piece of Paradise.- Nature's little secret!
A piece of Paradise.- Nature's little secret!
This is a great property in an amazing location. The views and position are wonderful, with passing yachts and general activity always there to watch. It is an easy walk down to Smugglers Cove over the rocks where it is ideal for young children to swim or paddle, and parents to lounge around enjoying the superb cocktails, and snacky food! No children with us so could enjoy as many cocktails as we fancied! Over the hill from Gun Point is West End with more good food and bars and beyond that is Soper's Hole with Pussers - yet more lovely food and drink - do try the coconut prawns, and spicy chicken wings. There are some interesting shops here, and not all of them are filled with Tourist stuff.( There is also an adequate supermarket if you don't want to venture into Roadtown.) It is easy to arrange a good day out on a charter boat, which is fun and there are some lovely sites for snorkeling or scuba diving. We went out on a catamaran and had a lovely day. Some of the fish are breathtaking colours. You can also dive off the end of the private quay at Gun Point and snorkel there. The property is clean and obviously well maintained, with all that you need for a relaxing holiday. If you drive around the island there is a lot to be seen and things to do, if you enjoy the sightseeing. If you want to lie around and watch the world go by then Gun Point is perfect. Road Town is not brilliant for clothes shopping but then that is not really what we wanted to do on holiday! JC and Sam, who manage the property, are always at the end of the phone for any problems or queries and couldn't be more helpful. JC has lived there for many years, and there is not much about the island that he doesn't know, and Sam for about 13 years I believe. They love it, especially the surfing, and always have suggestions to help you enjoy your stay. I certainly recommend a stay at this lovely piece of Paradise!

My family spent 8 wonderful days at Gun Point. Our sons are 16 & 21 and wanted fishing, sun, beach, and snorkeling. They got all that and more. The property manager made sure we had new, quality fishing equipment, which the boys used everyday. We loved the open air house, and very private property. The sunset from the top of Gunpoint was amazing.

We loved the stunning location and spent hours lazing by the infinity pool, gazing at the hypnotic horizon. The water was so clear and ranged from light aquamarine to turquoise to colbalt blue. There was great snorkelling off the jetty and along the bay at Smugglers Cove. We were very lucky with the weather with endless blue skies and sunshine. Soper's Hole is a cool hangout nearby and a marina where day-sails to the surrounding islands can be arranged.

We certainly enjoyed Gun Point: spectacular views, great walks/scrambles around the Point, up to the peak, all around the beach. So glad we could be here together with our extended family. Weather was perfect. Water was wonderful. Special thanks to JC Pierce for his attentiveness.
