Jekyll Island house description
From Oct 27th - October 29th, preceding the GA-FL Game on Oct 30th, Jekyll is hosting a golf tournament billed as "largest golf tournament in the Bulldawg Nation". There are "three days of fun golf competition, ticket includes guest passes and activities." UGA Alumni get a $25 off advance registration. For more info search for "GA-FL golf tournament" and use discount code UGA25 when registering. In the spirit of our father who was a big Bulldawg fan, we are offering our house for a discounted price. Call Jekyll Realty at 888-333-5055 for more info.
Spacious split-level home easily accommodates large groups. Casual family living, adults can lounge in the living room while children play games and watch television in the family/game room. Beautiful, quiet island with paved bike paths around entire island. Visit the lovingly restored historic homes in Millionaire's Village, where magnates of the early 20th century wintered. Excellent golf course accessible year-round. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center and Tidelands Nature Center showcase the island's focus on its natural environment; 65 percent of the island is undeveloped.
If you long for a quiet beach getaway, without the trappings of a commercial beach town, this is the place for you. The house is located on a quiet dead-end street, the ocean is your backyard. The island has numerous restaurants, miniature golf, a water park, marina, drug store, grocery, Georgia State Patrol office and Fire Department. Name-brand shopping, restaurants, movie theaters and a hospital are available in Brunswick, approximately 30 minutes' drive.
Our home, named the Crowe's Nest, is managed by Jekyll Realty and their office is located in the Jekyll Island Shopping Center. Please contact them through the email form on the right for availability and bookings. (The calendar here is not correct - it would be quite difficult to keep it in sync with theirs). There is a minimum 7 night stay during the summer, but we can be more flexible with lengths of stay during the off season or if booking at the last minute.

Great location, very dated and dirty
Great location, very dated and dirty
The outside of this place looks great and is well maintained. The location is wonderful - literally steps from the beach. The house layout is good. However, the inside is terribly maintained. When I walked in the musty/mildewy smell was overwhelming - three cans of Lysol later (and a day with open windows) it was tolerable. Every morning I cleaned up at least a dozen mouse droppings. I made the mistake of sliding a couch out to look for a pen I had dropped behind it - hundreds of mouse droppings, dust bunnies - there is no way anyone had cleaned under there in months and maybe years. In the bathrooms the toilet and tub were clean, but the grout in every corner was funky. The carpet is incredibly dirty and stained. All the remote controls needed new batteries - but I took care of that for the next few guests. If the place was properly cared for and re-carpeted it would be a beautiful place for a family - but as is, take a pass.

Manager response: I am sorry you did not find our home comfortable. I believe the musty odor may be due to the house being closed up for a while before you came. (Not many people travel around the holidays). We do have ongoing pest control and they inspected the house after your departure and did not find any mice, nor did they catch any in the traps they put out. The home is cleaned after each guest, but due to quick turnaround schedules deep cleaning is only done once a quarter, in which they clean behind the furniture. This was last done in February 2012. It sounds like you caught the house in the perfect storm.

Year Purchased: 1973
About: Our father bought this house in 1973 and our extended family visits every year. Now that we are all grown and live in separate cities, this is the one place where we can all gather together as a family and enjoy each other's company. We love this house dearly and because of it all of our children have been able to establish a closeness that only comes from spending time together.
Why Jekyll Island:
Our family has visited Jekyll Island every summer since 1953. My father decided that since we love Jekyll Island so much that we should have a place there of our own. This house has enabled our expanding and far-flung family to maintain a closeness through our vacations there.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The beach is always a draw, with warm sun and water almost year-round. The bike paths on Jekyll are fabulous and we spend many hours leisurely pedaling under the live oak trees draped with Spanish moss. A favorite past time is visiting the beautifully restored homes in Millionaire's Village, visiting the bookstore and getting yummy fudge from the candy shop. But what we love to do the most is cook good food, catch up with one another, and have a relaxing vacation far away from the bustle of everyday life.
