Although it's only 5 minutes to downtown Asheville, you'll feel like you're much further away at this little hideout on Sunset Mountain. This 'rondette' is a 12-sided Deltec home with about 800 sq' of living space, hardwood floors, and lots of windows. Enjoy winter views of Mt. Pisgah from the spacious deck.

The interior is basic but has all the comforts for a pleasant stay. The IKEA foam bed in the Master Bedroom is sooo comfy. Central heat and air. The main room has an open but cozy feel to it. Sunset Dr. is a very quiet neighborhood and a popular route for runners and cyclists. You can get to the Blue Ridge Parkway without passing through a single traffic light. And the historic Grove Park Inn is only a mile or so away on Sunset.

My husband & I stayed here for a week during "spring break". The location is fantastic as it's a very close walk into town and has nice views from the hilltop where the house is located. The inside decor is way nicer than the photos show with a big leather couch and chair, cute dinette w/ 4 seats, lots of other chairs around for if you have guests, and 4 outdoor chairs as well to enjoy the sunsets off the wrap-around deck. The bedrooms offer plenty of storage in the closets and dresser drawers. The beds were made up very nicely - 1 king sized bed in the "master suite" which looks to be made up of 2 twins pushed together and is kinda short, but it was fine for us, - and I think it was a full-sized bed in the other room. We slept great! The kitchen is small but it was very well stocked with cooking pans, utensils, and basic spices and oils. The outdoor electric grill was a nice bonus too, and there are even white lights strung up around the roof for that added ambiance at night. We chose the rondette because it fit our budget and for it's proximity to town and to bike routes, since our main purpose for staying in Asheville was for road cycling in the mountains. Having a washer & dryer in the house was a huge must for us! The only time we had an issue with hot water for showers was when we had the washing machine going at the same time, but we quickly learned to wait and we never had an issue outside of that. The house was also well stocked with towels, extra sheets, cleaning supplies, trash bags, toilet paper, etc. I'm not sure if someone left it behind or if the owner took heed of all the previous comments, but there WAS a hair dryer under the sink in the bathroom when we were there! ;) And we took the owner up on his recommendation to try "Salsa's" restaurant in town... it was awesome! Other reviewers have commented on the difficult turn into the driveway, and I would like to say to please make that turn carefully. The lefthand turn into the driveway is fine, but if you have to make the righthand turn into the driveway, take the time to make a 3-point turn and don't just think you can cut it short. You can't. Right as we were leaving, we drove the trash up to the end of the driveway, then cut that corner short and got stuck on the retaining wall and had to call a tow truck. Don't be stupid & hurried like us!

Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We have rented several homes from homeaway in this area. This was very last minute trip for us. I went with my daughter, a friend of mine and her son. So there were 4 of us. Luckily my daughter and I took the bedroom with the bigger bed. It was very comfy. My friend had the other room, which had no sheets and was a very small hard bed. She didn't get much sleep unfortunately. I told her there was a blower dryer, there was not. The kids were up with the TV on it was not very sound proof in the bedrooms. You can pretty much hear everything from whatever room you are in. The shower was nice and got hot water quickly and the tank held for all 4 of us to shower. The location was great. Finding it was pretty easy. The view was nice! It wasn't the cleanest we have rented. There were cleaning supplies. There were trash bags. The couch and chair were comfortable. My husband did the communicating and he said the communication with the owner was great.

The rondette is the perfect location to enjoy all of Asheville's great amenities. It was only minutes to downtown and a short ride to the Biltmore. It is cozy and has everything you will need (bring your own hairdryer). Only one step onto the deck, so makes carrying bags in easy. There were 3 of us staying and I would recommend a maximum of 4, especially because there is only 1 bathroom. The shower was hot and had good water pressure which was great as it was a chilly weekend. I was glad I downloaded a previous renters driving directions, as they were very helpful (although it is definitely easy to find). Also a previous renter mentioned difficulty with one door and we also experienced that, along with a reminder to bring your own hairdryer, which we did. All in all a pleasant stay. Property manager was VERY responsive.

This was a perfect little house for the Valentine's weekend getaway my husband and I take each year with some friends of ours. Even with houses nearby it felt sort of secluded and it was quiet. We loved the location near downtown. It's a little outdated and obviously isn't lived in because there were a few cobwebs in the corners but overall it was clean and comfortable. The only downside was having to share one bathroom with four adults. We would definitely consider renting this house again in the future.

Owner response: Thank you so much. I'll get on those cobwebs. We are scheduling more improvements for the property this year. Really appreciate the support.

Everything was absolutely wonderful for our 6 night stay in Asheville, NC! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed just about everything in our little rondette. We were perfectly warm and comfy when it was cold outside, and we enjoyed having free wireless internet, and basic cable TV with a DVD option. Our bed, (king size) was OK, and very necessary, since my husband is 6' 4" and needs the length. We would like to suggest to anyone staying at the rondette that they bring coffee for the coffee maker, and to expect the driveway entrance to be tricky. When approaching the driveway from the mountain coming down, there is an impossible right turn! Don't let your GPS fool you by taking you up the mountain first! If you start climbing up on any road other than Baird St, your GPS is taking you all the way up the mountain to bring you back down to the rondette! The best way to approach the apt. is to make a left onto Baird St. from Charlotte St. ONLY.....unless you want to navigate steep turns downward from the top of the mountain to the driveway entrance, where you will have to then make a 3 point turn in order to turn into the driveway! The little house has what you need. Ladies, bring your own hair dryer because there isn't one! The first doorway entrance from the gate is difficult to lock, so it's best to use the entrance where you pick up your key. Have fun, it's a wonderful stay in a perfect proximity to the arts, restaurants, and sights.

We truly enjoyed our stay in this rondette in the trees with mountain and city views. The kitchen is well equipped and we used the gas grill on the deck. The washer and dryer were a bonus It was a lovely place for two during a winter week in December.

My family has stayed at this house twice now, and each time has been a very pleasant and comfortable visit. The house is a five-minute drive to downtown Asheville, and the Grove Park Inn is right up the street. We have a three-year-old daughter, and the house was a perfect fit for us. The beds are quite comfortable, there are plenty of clean linens and towels, and the kitchen is well-stocked. The property manager is very accommodating and friendly. We will always stay here when we visit Asheville.

We had a pleasant stay at this house for the weekend. We were comfortable in the 2 bedroom house with 2 adults and 1 child. Very convenient location to down town Asheville and Biltmore. The house has a nice new leather couch that is not pictured. The roads leading to the house are a little narrow for a big SUV. However, we would definitely stay here again. Great communication from the gentleman managing the property.

Really great location. It's less than a $10 cab ride to get to downtown/civic center area. As others have said, the living room furniture has been upgraded since the pictures were taken. The unit was clean with plenty of towels and extra linens. There is a little dive of a pub within a short walk that's open late (Charlotte Street Pub). Standard bar food with decent prices. It looked like mostly locals. I will definitely consider renting this unit or from this owner again. Overall, it was a great experience.

We stayed at the rondette for a week. You really can't ask for a more perfect location! We felt like we were miles away, but it was just a short easy drive to downtown or Grove Park Inn (both less than 3 minutes away). Taking the easy beautiful mountain roads to Blue Ridge Parkway was so ideal and breathtaking with all of the fall colors! We loved going for walks in this area too! We really enjoyed the rondette's views of the mountain-side to watch the trees, squirels, birds, and falling leaves in the breeze, while the windchimes gently chimed outside on the long deck. Very relaxing!! Loved the way the windows open from the top for great mountain breezes! The dining table is a great place for views! Also, the deck is a great place to sit, eat and relax too! The Wi-Fi was very useful for us. We loved the way they had automatic lighting that turned on outside upon your arrival as you pull in down the driveway, which makes it nice during the night time hours for easy entry. The master bedroom mattress was very comfortable, but double-size. Because the mattress was so comfortable though, my husband and I surprisingly managed okay. (It kind of proved our queen size mattress at home isn't very comfy at all! :-) We felt like our stay was a good value for the money. The owner and nearby property manager are both very nice to work with, and they are continually making improvements to the place. For instance, the living room is more updated than the photo in the listing that shows two chairs. There is now a nice living room rug and new brown leather couch and matching side chair for more comfortable and modern seating. Also, it looks like the bedding ensembles are new and updated since these photos as well. And we've been told that there are other improvements and upgrades on their list to come, so we are looking forward to getting back in touch with them to book our trip to Asheville next year!

                  Owner info

                  Year Purchased: 2005

About the owner: I'm a professional musician and have lived most of my life in Florida but I love Western North Carolina. I've hiked about a third of the Appalachian Trail the past couple years and hoping to finish someday. I perform occasionally at The Grove Park Inn in Asheville. I also have family that lives about an hour from Asheville so I spend as much time here as I can.

                  Why the Owner Chose Asheville:
I love Sunset Dr because it is so close to town, but still has easy access to the Parkway. Asheville is a wonderful city with some of the best restaurants in the south, unique shopping, and lots of culture. It's also a great because of all the outdoor activities nearby--hiking, rafting, climbing. The weather is great too--not too hot in summer and winters are pretty mild.

The Unique Benefits at this House:
I really enjoy the proximity to excellent hiking--you can go any direction from Asheville and hit epic trails. You can get to the Blue Ridge Pkwy without going through a single traffic light. Hector Diaz' 'Salsa's' restaurant is my favorite place to eat in the entire universe (and I travel a lot). There are wonderful spiritual communities nearby as well.
