Location

Our Lake home is about 2 1/2 hours from Seattle, a very pretty drive as you head toward and over the Cascade mountains. Once you go through Steven's Pass, it is about a 20 minute drive to the lake once you are through the pass. Right before the turn into the resort area on the main highway 2 you'll pass The 59'er diner on you right ( a retro diner that boasts the best milk shakes around) and the Squirrel Tree Restaurant (both good local diner type options for food); highway 207 that you turn left on is there, big sign that says Recreation Lake Wenatchee. Once down this 207 road, you'll see the signs for the park entrance to Lake Wenatchee which will be on your left. The North entrance is first and you can go there to rent boats to take out on the lake in the spring and summer months, horseback riding and bikes I believe (it's about a 3-4 minute drive from our house).

On the right as you go down 207 you'll see the signs for the town of Plain; definitely worth a drive around there. A very pretty drive along the river surrounded by mountains. In the 'little' town of Plain you'll find Natapoc Winery (named for the big mountain that we look at) does wine tasting and Plain grocery and Plain hardware (next to each other). You can get most types of things at the grocery store although I would stop along the way to get meat/fish/veg (the house is equipped with all the basic cooking items like olive oil, vinegar, extensive spices, flour, sugar as well as soups, ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard etc). The hardware store is a throw back in time and the help behind the counter is wonderful; they have coffee, homemade soup and chili and can give you trail maps and tips on the area (we have a map of all the trials in the binder in the home too--Dirty Face trail is right behind our house, literally walk out the back door, cross the 2-lane highway). They may also rent bikes there; I know they rent snow shoes in the winter. There's a new restaurant right next to the hardware store which serves breakfast and lunch (sandwiches and pizza I believe). On the way to Plain there's a place called Mountain Springs Lodge where they have dinner (by reservation only) and do sleigh rides and snowmobile trail rides. Very pretty in the winter; we have info in the binder and basket in the house.

Back on 207 after you pass the right turn to Plain, you stay on 207 to get to our house. Right before the bridge there is a little grocery store, again has meat, sometimes veg but its more staples, wine, etc on the right and the Happy Clown restaurant--never eaten there myself. Directly across from the store is Headwaters Pub, worth a stop in just to feel the local spirit. They have a varied menu (great oven baked pizza, fish and chips, lasagna etc) and open almost all the time.

Owner info

Year Purchased: 2009

About the owner: My wife and I have been married for almost 30 years. We love the Leavenworth area and had always wanted to have a get away place there. We love the scenic mountains, rivers, the changing seasons and it's always a delight to drive into the town of Leavenworth to see the sights, lights, shopping, wine tasting and good restaurants! We have three children; one daughter who lives in England, one working in The Seattle area and one at college. We are realtors on the Eastside of Seattle in Redmond and make our home in Woodinville.

Why the Owner Chose Lake Wenatchee:
We love Leavenworth and had always wanted to have a place there. It is a great town with so many shops and good restaurants. We knew this new home was right for us. It's right across from the lake with its own lake acess (or boat launch at the public beach). Fun activities right in the area include horsebak riding, tubing on the river, lots of hiking trails (right behind the house) and boat rentals at the lake in the summer. It is a short 20 minute drive to the charming town of Leavenworth and the Ski slopes of Steven's is only 20 minutes away. The view of the mountains are majestic!

The Unique Benefits at this Chalet:
We are at Lake Wenatchee, so you have the view and it is quiet and peaceful. It is a short drive to Leavenworth and to Stevens Pass for Skiing. In the winter there is also Snowmobiling a half mile up the road with a vast trail network. In the Summer we have fresh water sports on the lake and hiking and tubing on the River. Or you can just sit and relax in the hot tub and admire the peace of nature. Our home is outfitted like a luxury home, not a rental to insure a quality experience.
