My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5-nights stay at Casa Joachim. The location was superb for exploring the southern Nicoya coast: We spent one day hiking Casa Blanco, another hiking Curu, an outing to Mal Pais/Santa Theresa and of course, Montezuma; other days just lounging about the casa. The views are spectacular, the wildlife is pervasive and the pool a welcome relief from hot and dusty days. We rented a 4-wheeler which I would recommend for climbing the ridge to Joachim's. The casa had all the amenities needed for a comfortable stay. We only cooked breakfast but were tempted to grill something. We had a minor problem with the water flow which Leanne and Ron fixed promptly. Speaking of Leanne and Ron, our local hosts, they were very helpful, responsive and a pleasure to work with; as was Joachim. We look forward to a return visit.

We stayed - a couple with 9 month old baby - at Joachim's house for one week right after spending 3 weeks at Jule's house (jungle artist house), down the hill (see other comment on airbnb.com). Communication with Joachim before our arrival was quick and easy. Leanne, the property manager, was immensly helpful before and during our stay, as well as the help from Ron, very appreciated. We loved staying here! It was comfortable and luxurious. Uphill - were the eagles fly - the view of the sea is remarquable! There was a little breeze making the air lighter. Regularly, the monkeys passed by in the trees near the house. We even saw whales outfar in the bay which was a great streak of luck. On the other side of the house, the view of the trees down below is also incredible and vast, beautiful during sunset. We went in the pool frequently and watched with fascination the tides change the scenery along the coastline below. We managed without a car for most of the week, although it must be much easier with one - the gate also being a 5 min walk (not flat) from the house. We had a car during the beginning of our stay. Afterwards, we managed to walk down to the beach road to take the bus to town - a 25 min downhill walk on a very dusty path. Some taxis (4WD) can give a ride back up to the house although a bit more expensive than usual rides. Some travel companies (ex. Montezuma Travel) arrange for a pick-up taxi at home for an extra 10$ when buying a minibus ticket to travel elswhere. This made our departure from Joachim's house much easier and less of a worry for finding local transportation on time. For us, it was much simpler staying in a one floor home, to move around with the baby.It was interesting to have tried different home settings in a similar area and we were very satisfied with our combination of choices.

We had an excellent stay at this place, it was even more beautiful than we could ever have imagined! Any photo doesnt do justice to the absolute fantastic view one has over the pacific ocean from the house. We enjoyed watching several breathtaking sunsets/-rises that no photo could fully capture! Some of the highlights we loved most about our choice of stay: 1) the pool was wonderful, one can swim and see the pacific ocean, thats pretty incredible by itself! 2) the beautiful and well put together garden with lots of beautiful plants, flowers (hibiscus, bougainvilleas, rare palm trees, orange, lime trees) 3) the privacy of the location, there are no neighbors, its very peaceful which is exactly what we looked for, to have a relaxing vacation away from the more touristy aspect of the area. 4) the wrap around, covered patio of the house was amazing, we could observe plenty of wildlife including monkeys, iguanas, butterflies etc. We loved swinging in the hammock at any time of the day on the patio. 5) the interior of the house was great as well, we had everything we needed (esp the kitchen, as it was small, it had everyting one needs to cook). Very well maintained and extremely clean. (we also loved the welcoming swans on the bed with the flowers, added a touch of honeymoon romance!) 6) The owner and property manager were both extremely helpful in guiding us through our planning and stay there (as this was our first time in Costa Rica with much to learn!) I could list many more things, but yes I would recommend this lovely piece of paradise to anyone that is looking for a beautiful and blissful gettaway vacation while enjoying the exotic aspect of what nature has to offer. There are so many adventures one can experience in that area for affordable prices. I would recommend any of the tours that are offered in Montezuma, they seemed well organized and were so much fun ( horse back riding, Tortuga island etc) But even close, there is a lot to do! ( lots of little shops, cafes, there is an amazing little cafe in Cabuya (2 km from there) that has the best chocolate cake and jams we've ever had!) All in all, we had a fantastic stay at this place and yes would go back in a heart beat! We really learned what the locals mean by Pura Vida!!! It feels like paradise on earth! ( I know that sounds a bit cheezy but its so true!)

Staying at this casita for a week was the high spot of our 3 week vacation in Costa Rica. It is very private which means you can swim "au natural" at midnight if you so desire. The beautful pool overlooking the sea is always a perfect temperature. (the picture of this pool does not do it justice.) The casita is located at the end of a high ridge. In one direction--a beautiful ocean view. In the other, a canyon filled with tropical trees and all kinds of wildlife. We were visited by a troop of howlers, a troop of whitefaced monkeys and a flock of trogans, a family of white iguanas, a coati, a tayra and a golden agouti. Large parakeets yak at each other over head almost everyday. This casita is a large bedroom with a small kitchen and bathroom. The living area is a large covered patio with a big table and hammocks. It is a perfect romantic getaway for an adventurous couple. The road requires a four wheel drive vehicle--that's one of the reasons the property is so private. Leanne and Ron, the property managers are helpful, friendly and accomodating. They were very respectful of our privacy yet immediately available if we needed anything. We really enjoyed our stay.

This is the most amazing property we have ever seen, and it was all ours for several days of bliss. The views of the ocean are gorgeous, and compelled us each morning to watch the sunrise spread out across it. But the views of the rainforest are just as impressive, especially when the trees off the porch are filled with monkeys, which they were one morning during our stay. The lovely cross breeze kept us comfortable, and the pool was great for cooling down as well. Truly, it was paradise. If you are up for adventure, but like a quiet place to escape to, this is it. Thank you Joachim!

Dear Mr Berger, We really enjoyed our vacations in your house. It's a real paradise. We loved the view on the sea, be in the jungle, watch the animals and refresh ourselves in the pool. Everything has been well thought for the comfort and the pleasure. Our friends loved the place as much as we did. Congratulations for the choice of the spot.... We may come back.... Best regards,

Loved the house, the location, the views - Loved everything about it except the driveway - I'd recomment a 4WD. I would definately recommend thiis location. We were greated by the caretakers who helped make our stay enjoyable. My husband and I spent almost two weeks here in January 2012. We relaxed on the deck and in the pool, enjoyed the sunrises and listening to the howler monkeys each morning. We loved exploring the beaches and the small towns and villages in the area. Thanks Joachim for providing us this wonderful experience. Have a great 2012.

My wife and I experienced a wonderful week in an outstanding environment. Surrounded by nature overlooking the ocean at cliff's edge of the jungle. Monkeys in the front trees, parrots, and fruit trees for fresh Margaritas nightly. Joachim, I want to be your neighbor. Hats off to you for providing a great vacation week. We will return!

You feel like a bird looking down on the beaches below right on the edge of a cliff in the jungle. Clean with lots of personal touches and a refreshing pool with hammocks makes this a perfect get away.

Hello Joachim, We had such a good time at your place in Cabuya, I just wanted to thank you for making it available to rent. We absolutely loved the privacy and the views and eating breakfast while watching the monkeys climb through the trees. The pool was amazing too! You have created a paradise there and it was a magical experience! I didn't want to leave! Thanks so much, Anne S

We got to spend our first week at this hilltop retreat and couldn't have been more pleased. This house is very private with stunning views and at the same time you feel like you are deep within the forest. The pool really made our time there special as we could plunge anytime we felt like doing so. If you are an early riser, it is the perfect place to watch the sunrise. We would caution anyone thinking about staying at the house, however, that they have a four-wheel drive vehicle as it can be a bit tricky going up the mountain and down to the house without one. If you are looking for that perfect, tranquil, romantic getaway than this would be the place.

My husband and I stayed for one week in December, 2010. The home was clean, quiet and in a great location for watching birds and wildlife. We enjoyed eating on the deck area with the ocean view, swimming in the outdoor pool and listening to all the sounds in the forests. During the day we went hiking in the woods, exploring beaches and spending time at a nearby waterfall. The caretaker greated us upon our arrival and provided helpful information about the area. We enjoyed the privacy of this location and appreciated the local hospitality. We're hoping to visit again soon. The sky is beautiful at night and sunrise in the morning is an event in itself.
