We stayed in this great Battery Park City apartment for a month mid August thu mid September. It was everything we had hoped for ... and more. Being regular NYC visitors from Australia, we usually stayed in midtown with its ultra busy environs. But not so this apartment. On the 36th floor with expansive water views towards Lady 'Liberty', Nicolas's apartment was more a resort experience in the big city if that were ever possible!!. One just had to cross the West Highway via the overpass to be back in the busy city and within easy walking to Rector Place Subway/Metro lines to anywhere uptown. Nicolas was attentive to our compulsory 'vacate the apartment/area' needs throughout the Hurricane Irene, which as it turned out, was a minor tropical storm ... but it did indicate the NYC emergency systems were well founded. The 9/11 10th anniversary program followed on our last weekend in NYC and while the apartment is very near Ground Zero, we experienced minimum inconveniences. All in all, we highly recommend this apartment, especially if you are into RED decor and want some tranquility in NYC. While we never met Nicolas, he is a sympathetic and attentive landlord of high principal and fairness who simply wished to deliver value. We received it in spades!! Thank you Nicolas. Hope you enjoy the Aussie Red we left for you ??Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, age 55+.
Owner response: Dear Robert, thank you for your positive comments. You have been a tough negotiator as a client ;-) but a true gentleman as a guest.

Owner: Nicholas is a person can't initiate a discussion, like if you phoned for the first time and you say "hello" he says "Hello" and stop, can't comment about your country or which state you are coming from..weather in NY or in your place...nothing. all what he says.."I am very busy"..I think English is his second language. Parking: When I asked about parking, he said "it is difficult" although he, as a NYC resident, should have said: "Well, parking is impossible for free there is a parking in the building will cost you $40/day if your car is a van or SUV it costs $50. Having said that there is one across the street for $40/day no discount for weekly stay, only for monthly" Arrival: Someone was waiting, definitely not from anything close to a hospitality business, what he says: "I need the cash" he counts the cash twice then says "Here is the keys" and leaves the place..very close to a drug transaction! The Unit: Small but functional, need some work specially plumbing, if you tried to use the kitchen faucet, you see immediate huge leak comes on the countertop (granite), old appliances (ancient MW). Somehow you feel things are not clean even if it shows it is clean. Bed is on the floor, not elevated like a foot or so, if you are little old, or a bad knee, overweight, it is difficult to get up, we are in our mid 40's. View is great, no need to take the ferry to the Statue of Liberty. Building is clean, elevator is fast, neighborhood is safe and not congested, and mediocre water pressure, floor 36, very nice TV, keep an Ethernet cable handy, the wireless one is not great never used it. Who we are: couple mid-40's with a teen, travelled a lot, frequent user to VRBORecommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car.
Owner response: The main issue behind this review is that I have begged this guest to give me an approximate time of arrival in order to arrange my Sunday. Since he was driving from Canada, he promised he will do so once approaching NY. But 5pm became 6pm and then 7pm and then... I end up waiting for him for 4.5 hours this Sunday evening. I was not so happy, so I got the cash, gave him the drugs and left. There was a leak at the kitchen sink though and we fixed it.

This listing turned out to be just as described -- and then some! Everything is just so; the owner pays meticulous attention to detail. He's thought of everything. The view was fantastic! It was always a choice between the Statue of Liberty or the widescreen TV in the living room. For me, Lady Liberty almost always won out! And the location couldn't be beat. Right next to the Hudson River, and just down the street from Wall Street and several subway stops, making getting anywhere else in Manhattan or beautiful Brooklyn Heights a breeze. And if you fee like taking a breathtaking walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, it's within easy walking distance. Also a great place for foodies. Right in the neighborhood is a fine Jewish deli; and the shops at the World Financial Center are great for mouth-watering pastries, gelato, and everything else in between. If that's not enough, the thousands of Manhattan eateries are easy subway rides away. I would definitely recommend it to a friend or relative -- provided I'm not going back again myself!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
