Have you noticed that sometimes, at the end of the week in a rented lakeside cabin, you are longing to go home? You want to go back to a nice bed, want to have a normal shower, want to cook in a normal kitchen again? At least, I felt that way sometimes. This house is the first house that I am truly sorry that the week is over. I am rocking my brain trying to think what else could this house have that it doesn't have already, and I can't come up with anything. Outside shower cabin to wash off your feet before coming into the house? Check. Fire pit outside to have a fire and roast marshmallows after dark? Check. WiFi connection? Check. Extensive library of books and maps? Check. Fully stocked kitchen that can make Julia Child proud? Check. Comfortable king-sized beds? Check... well, you get the idea. The house is really and truly unique, it is spotlessly clean and meticulously and lovingly maintained. But, it is not just the house, it's the surrounding area, too. The house sits in the woods about 50 feet from the water edge. Getting into the water right at the water edge is a little bit cumbersome because of the rocks (no problem in flip-flops though), but about 20 yards away there is a new dock and a float, and swimming from the dock is a delight. The lake is huge, so you never get tired from exploring it.The water is crystal-clear and warm. I was trying to fish from the dock as well and got two smallmouth bass in about 1 hour, so there's definitely some fish there. There are several bird feeders on the property which attract all kinds of lovely birds, including those that I never seen before. Also there's a hummingbird feeder on the porch, so you'll be treated to a sight of a bumblebee-like hummingbird flying in for a snack. There's a small island across the bay which is just FULL of delicious wild blueberries. If you want to venture out, make sure to go to Round Pond Lobster, which is a small lobster shack located in Round Pond, ME (turn left on Rt. 1 as you get off the dirt road, and then turn right on Rt. 32 and go for about 10 miles. You can have a lobster dinner there, complete with a fresh boiled lobster, clams, and corn cob for $15, or a double-lobster for $20. Or, go to Damariscotta for a plethora of dining out options. Last, but not least: the owners are the most pleasant people to deal with. Courteous, friendly, and accommodating. Thank you for the lovely week, and we hope to be back again some day.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.
